The rain at Homestead-Miami Speedway stayed away for the majority of the NCWTS Ford 200, but returned with 15-laps left and forced NASCAR officials to call the race complete.

With NASCAR’s decision to end the race, it was Johnny Sauter at the lead and pronounced the winner, but even though Sauter did all he could do by leading the most laps and winning the race, it wasn’t enough to win the championship that went to Austin Dillon (who finished the season 6-points ahead of Sauter).

This was Sauter’s second series win of the 2011 season, his fourth series career win and his first series win at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Coming in second was Denny Hamlin followed by Kevin Harvick finishing in third Nelson Piquet Jr. fourth, Joey Coulter fifth, Ty Dillon sixth, Elliott Sadler seventh, Timothy Peters eighth, Jason White ninth and Austin Dillon rounding out the top-ten finishers.

As for Austin Dillon and his first series championship, Dillon (at 21 years, six months and 22 days) became the youngest series champion, the first driver to follow up his Sunoco Rookie of the Year season with a championship the following season, gives Richard Childress Racing their second championship.

The 2011 NCWTS Sunoco Rookie of the Year honor goes to Joey Coulter, who finished the season with five top fives and 13 top 10s.
