Korbin Forrister Inhales Experience; Knowledge In ARCA Racing Series DebutPress Release
Throughout the two practice sessions on Saturday, Forrister in his No. 68 Tilted Kilt Ford Fusion progressed nicely and produced competitive lap times which gave the Kimmel Racing team led by car owner and crew chief Bill Kimmel confident in the changes he would make to the team’s blue oval heading into Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell later that afternoon.
Giving all his might, the Late Model driver by trade wrestled his No. 68 Tilted Kilt Ford Fusion to the 27th quickest lap in one of the tightest fields in recent ARCA history at the half-mile oval.
Before climbing into his automobile for his inaugural ARCA Racing Series start the following day, Forrister along with some special guests from the Tilted Kilt-brewery in Canton, Ohio attended a crowded autograph session just before the drop of the green flag.
If the 19-year old was nervous, he wasn’t showing any signs of it climbing into his racecar before the start of the fifth race of the season.
From the drop of the green flag, Forrister showed extreme patience and took his time moving through the running order. Trouble though would find the Clarksville, Indiana-based team on lap 27 when Forrister spun at the exit of turn two. After some help from the ARCA safety crew, the Cedartown, Georgia native was able to leave the scene under his own power.
As the race progressed, the teenager continued to log laps and be respectful to his competitors. However, shortly after the half-way point, the freshman driver informed his crew that he was beginning to experience clutch problems. Eventually, the problem would be forced to sideline them after 119 laps completed. Overall, the Kimmel Racing team would be credited with an unworthy 28th place finish.“Obviously, we were hoping for a much, much better run – but sometimes you can’t predict failures like we had,” said Forrister. “I cannot begin to thank everyone on the Kimmel Racing team for their faith and ability in me. I can’t begin to tell you how much I learned, the list goes on and on. I also want to thank Tilted Kilt for jumping on-board with us. I hate that we couldn’t deliver them a better run, but we’ll have another opportunity soon, that’s a promise.”
Forrister’s next scheduled race for Kimmel Racing is set for the July 27th at Lucas Oil Raceway Park at Indianapolis.
