No. 11 Dollar General Toyota News and Notes:
- BRIAN SCOTT BACK ON TRACK WITH JGR: The 2012 season marks Brian Scott’s second full season with Joe Gibbs Racing. In 2011, the 24-year-old Boise, Idaho native closed out the season eighth in the Nationwide Series championship point standings with two top-five finishes, seven top-10 finishes and one pole. Crew chief Kevin Kidd will again call the shots for Scott and the No. 11 Dollar General team as they vie for the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series championship.
- DOLLAR GENERAL ONBOARD WITH SCOTT FOR 2012: The No. 11 Toyota Camry will proudly carry the colors of new Joe Gibbs Racing sponsor Dollar General. Dollar General has a longstanding history in motorsports, and Scott made his first career Nationwide Series start in April 2009 behind the wheel of a Dollar General Camry. His 2012 Nationwide Series campaign will feature the Dollar General brand for all 33 races on the circuit. Dollar General will also sponsor JGR’s No. 18 and No. 20 Nationwide Series entries for select races throughout the season, as well as Joey Logano’s No. 20 Sprint Cup Series ride.
- BRIAN SCOTT AT DAYTONA: Saturday’s Drive4COPD 300 will be Scott’s fifth career Nationwide Series start at Daytona International Speedway. His best finish on the 2.5 mile superspeedway was in July 2011 when he notched a 12th place finish under the Joe Gibbs Racing banner.
- JOE GIBBS RACING AT DAYTONA: In 44 Nationwide Series starts at Daytona International Speedway, Joe Gibbs Racing has three wins, 14 top-fives, 21 top-10 finishes and six poles in NASCAR’s second-tiered series. The organization’s most recent Nationwide Series win at the famed superspeedway was in July 2011 with Logano. Joe Gibbs Racing Nationwide Series entries have 132 total superspeedway starts and have earned 14 wins, 42 top-fives and 68 top-10 finishes while leading 1,426 laps.

From the Cockpit:
Brian Scott: “I’ve been counting down the days until Daytona and can’t wait to get the season started. We’re really excited about having Dollar General onboard for the full season. They’re one of the most active sponsors in our series, and they are continuing to grow their already strong presence in the sport. We couldn’t be happier to have Dollar General as a partner here at JGR this year.”
“My crew chief Kevin Kidd has assembled a core group of team members, we’ve got an established fleet of racecars to compete with and we feel we’re well-prepared to race for the championship this year. Last season working with Kevin was great. We’re both engineer-minded and that just helps us to better communicate. This is the most solid situation I’ve been in throughout my racing career. We kept the same team from 2011 so we could keep the same great chemistry going. We really ended last season on a good note, and I think that same success is going to carry on into this season. Our goals heading into the first race of the year are to earn more poles, win races and contend for the 2012 Nationwide Series championship.”
“After a productive off-season, we’re really energized to get to Daytona and put to use the developments we’ve made. We’ll see how our equipment stacks up to everyone else’s. Daytona used to be a handling race. Now with a smoother surface with plenty of grip, it’s a chess match instead of a handling game. Avoiding trouble and getting yourself in the right position is key. You have to be there at the end of the race to get a good finish. I think with NASCAR’s new rules we’re going to see a flashback to racing in bigger packs rather than the two-car tandems. Daytona’s always a great race for fans and we’re looking to start the season off right.”
From the Pit Box:
Kevin Kidd: “Our entire organization has a really positive attitude heading into the start of the 2012 season. I think we’ve got all the pieces in place for a successful year. We’ve all worked really hard during the off-season to get our team positioned to race for the championship, and I feel we’ve got the potential to get there too. We’re striving for consistent top-10 and top-five finishes throughout the season and we’re really looking forward to getting Dollar General into victory lane.”
“The most important goal that we have for this weekend in Daytona is to finish the race. History shows that if you finish intact, you will finish well. We’ll be focusing on racing more than qualifying. It’s our intent to work with our drafting partner(s) during practice to tune our cars in with one another. Engine cooling and push handling are the most important things that we will be working on during practice. The most exciting thing from the crew chief seat this weekend will be keeping up with potential rules changes as the week goes on. I am expecting NASCAR to pull out all the stops to eliminate the two-car drafting.”
From Dollar General’s CEO:
Rick Dreiling: “Everyone at Dollar General has been anxiously awaiting the start of the 2012 racing season. We look forward to cheering on Brian Scott as he kicks-off the season behind the wheel of the Dollar General car.”
