CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 22, 2012) – Fourteen-year-old rising star Gray Gaulding resumes his 2012 Pass South Super Late Model Series schedule Saturday with the Memorial Day 125 at Concord Speedway.

Gaulding looks to conquer the .5-mile Concord Speedway using the momentum built from his successful finish May 14 at Southern National Motorsports Park, where he went wire to wire to win the Super Series-SLM 150. Gaulding also is armored with previous experience at Concord heading into Saturday’s race, as he competed in the Thanksgiving Classic in November and earned a ninth-place finish.

Perseverance was the theme of his Concord debut with Gaulding overcoming several instances that altered his track position. Despite qualifying second, Gaulding would start from the rear after his car wouldn’t fire due to a carburetor failure when the race command was given. Gaulding fought hard to make his way back to the front of the field, but just as he was inside the top 10, he suffered a flat left rear tire. After a tire change and a late-race pit stop, he charged all the way to the front and led for nearly 20 laps before yet another tire went down. Gaulding battled through the vibration and managed to bring home a ninth-place finish.

Gaulding’s Concord Speedway schedule begins Friday with four practice sessions and resumes Saturday with additional practice. He qualifies Saturday at 5:15 p.m. and the Memorial Day 125 will officially get underway at 7:30 p.m. (All times Eastern.)

“The team and myself are really looking forward to getting back to Concord Motorsports Park,” Gaulding said. “After leaving the Thanksgiving Classic we really felt like it owed us one. I know all the guys in the shop have been working hard and the Krispy Kreme Toyota Camry is going to be ready to roll when the gates open on Friday”
