Race Preview: Road Atlanta

Sage Karam, Team Comfort Revolution, No. 88

Karam is currently fourth in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear point standings. He has recorded three wins and 11 top-10 finishes this season. Karam most recently completed the Mazda Road to Indy Open test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway driving a Firestone Indy Lights car for Andretti Autosport.

“I am shocked that we are about to put the final chapter in the 2012 Star Mazda book this week. It was a pretty solid year and a win at Road Atlanta would send us out properly. Last week was an amazing experience at IMS in the No. 27 AFS Racing/Andretti Autosport Indy Lights car. Most drivers would have a problem stepping back down into a Star Mazda after that. I have no issue going back to Star Mazda, because it doesn’t matter if it’s racing bikes, karts, Star Mazda or Indy Lights, I want to win. Racing is racing to me. I have to offer a huge thank you to Michael Andretti and Comfort Revolution for giving me the test. As excited as I am about trying to finalize my Lights plans, I still have to remain focused on this race. I love Road Atlanta and I believe we have a great shot at winning.”

Zach Veach, Team K12, No. 77

Veach is currently 10th in the Star Mazda championship point standings. While at Road Atlanta for the final round of the 2012 season, he will be holding a book signing tonight at Barnes & Noble for “99 Things Teens Wish They Knew Before Turning 16.” Veach also recently completed the Mazda Road to Indy Open Test for Andretti Autosport driving a Firestone Indy Lights car. The test marked his third time in the car and he was quickest both days, setting a new track record at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“It’s hard to believe we’re already at the season finale! It has been a year with a lot of learning but I’m really happy to be at Road Atlanta this weekend. We’ve had a lot of luck here in the past, and I’m excited to get on track tomorrow. Coming from setting the track record on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in the Indy Lights car last week, I’m feeling good about getting back in the K12 Star Mazda and going for the top spot here at Atlanta! I want to thank Andretti Autosport, K12, The Young Marines, ADS, Zakosi, Replay XD, OMP, Oakley, and Arai Helmets for all the support this year!”
