Election Day Comes Early As Fans Will Vote To Determine If They Want Johnson Or Keselowski In NASCAR Nation’s ‘Oval Office’Press Release
FORT WORTH, Texas (Oct. 31, 2012) - Election Day will come early for race fans as they will cast their votes during this weekend’s AAA Texas 500 tripleheader at Texas Motor Speedway on whether they would like to see Jimmie Johnson or Brad Keselowski residing in the NASCAR Nation’s “Oval Office” as the 2012 Sprint Cup Series champion.
With Election Day being next Tuesday, Texas Motor Speedway will engage in some spirited fun – NASCAR style – by letting the voice of the NASCAR Nation be heard on whom they would like to see as the next NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion.
Johnson, a five-time Sprint Cup champion, owns a two-point lead over Keselowski, who is seeking his first Sprint Cup title, heading into the AAA Texas 500, the eighth race in the 10-event Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. It is the tightest margin between the top two contenders entering the eighth Chase race since the format was adopted in 2004.
“Fans expect us to have fun and highlight the Chase battle and it is the closest ever entering the AAA Texas 500,” Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage said. “My fellow citizens of the NASCAR Nation: Ask not what Jimmie and Brad can do for you, ask what together we can do to help determine the next Sprint Cup champion. The vote has not even begun as yet and we already have an official hanging Chad (Knaus) for Jimmie’s camp. Be sure to make your voice heard by voting and have some fun with our Brad vs. Jimmie campaign.”
“The Chase 2012 – Choose Your Champ” campaign (click on photo to download high-res image) will have 18 voting “precincts” stationed at souvenir stands around the facility from Friday to Sunday for fans to vote for Johnson or Keselowski. Gates 2 through 7 on the concourse of the main grandstand will have 16 voting precincts while there will be one at a souvenir trailer in the infield on Allison Ave. and another for the fans on the backstretch for Sunday only.
Each voting area will be easily identifiable with red, white and blue bunting and “The Chase 2012 – Choose Your Champ – Brad vs. Jimmie” posters; workers wearing the old-fashion voter hats and vote buttons; and individual candidate vote boxes to cast your vote for either Johnson or Keselowski. Fans will require a Chase 2012 voter card and those will be handed out at the gates and also will be available at the voting precinct souvenir stands.
On-line voting also will be available to fans beginning today by visiting www.texasmotorspeedway.com.
Uncle Sam will be patrolling the precincts on the concourse from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. encouraging fans to vote prior to Sunday’s AAA Texas 500.
The people’s choice for the 2012 Sprint Cup Series champion will be announced during pre-race festivities for the AAA Texas 500 at approximately 2 p.m. CT.
Tickets are still available to see the “Brad vs. Jimmie” showdown, along with the rest of your favorite NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stars, in Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 by visitingwww.texasmotorspeedway.com or by calling (817) 215-8500.
