Mooresville, NC 3/27/13- A long, cold off season is finally coming to a close for University of North Carolina at Charlotte Senior/Super Late Model driver Trey Mitchell, as he and his Trey Mitchell Racing team get back to business at Hickory Motor Speedway this weekend to kick off their 2013 racing season. It will mark the second consecutive year that the youngster from Texas will start his season at the annual PASS South Easter Bunny 150; one of the toughest super late model races in the country.

“Last year I was a little apprehensive about our first race of the year being the Easter Bunny 150 because it has grown to be such a competitive race with a lot of racecars, but we held our own and came away with a podium finish,” explained Mitchell, when talking about his 2012 Easter Bunny 150 finish. “This year there’s no reason we can’t do the same or maybe even a little better. We’re taking a good piece to Hickory. Gary Crooks and the rest of Trey Mitchell Racing team have put some long hours in at the shop this off season so I think we’ll be in good shape. Now only if the driver can hold up to his end of the bargain then we’ll really be sitting pretty!”

Last season Mitchell showed no off season rust; taking the green flag from the sixth starting position after a solid qualifying effort then never racing outside the top five. In the closing laps Mitchell battled Landon Cling and eventual winner Kyle Grissom before slipping to third as the checkered flag waived. Impressive finishes Hickory have become common for the Texas native. According to Trey it’s a track that just fits his style no matter the occasion.

“I just enjoy getting around that place (Hickory). I’m not really sure what it is other than it fits my driving style pretty well over the course of a longer race. I raced there twice last year, once in PASS and again in the Pro Cup Series, finishing third in both races. Hopefully this year the place will be a little kinder to us and I can get that first PASS South win we’ve been trying so hard for,” noted Mitchell.

In addition to this weekend’s event Mitchell will pick several other PASS South events to compete in on a part time basis with the series as well as several other super late model events. Those events will be announced following the Easter Bunny 150 this weekend.

“I’ve got a pretty solid schedule put together that I’m hoping we can announce soon. We’ve been talking to some sponsors and talking with several other folks about our 2013 plans so with a little luck everything will come together for us,” added Trey.

The 2013 edition of the PASS South Easter Bunny 150 kicks off on Saturday with practice at 12 noon followed by qualifying at 3:30 pm. After a brief on track autograph session at 5:15 pm Mitchell and the rest of the starting field will take the green at 8 pm for 150 laps of short track racing action at the famed Hickory Motor Speedway.
