Date: April 25, 2013

Event: Sixth Annual Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown

Location: Richmond (Va.) International Raceway (0.75-mile oval)

Start / Finish: 4th / 1st (Running, completed 75 of 75 laps)

Winner: Kyle Busch of Kyle Busch Motorsports (Toyota)

For the third time in the six-year history of the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown, Kyle Busch fabricated a victory in the charity race held to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Research Lab at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Busch, who was driving the first-ever late model stock car built in-house by Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) Chassis, put his No. 51 All Metal Fabricators Camry at the front of the field on lap eight and never looked back, picking up his first win in the event since it was moved from Southside Speedway in Midlothian, Va. to Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.

“Really happy to get All Metal Fabricators to victory lane — they enjoy being on the car for this event and we’re happy to be here celebrating with them.” said Busch about the second-year sponsor of his Toyota Camry for the 75-lap event. “The last couple years we rented a car — nothing against the guys we rented the car from, but they just weren’t up to the level we needed to be able to compete for the win. So, we decided to build our first late model stock out of KBM Chassis and this car was real fast all day — especially on the longer runs. Can’t say enough about all the hard work that everybody at KBM put into this effort — working a lot of late nights and weekends to put this thing together. Jerry Upchurch did a great job with the motor and got us everything we could out of it. Have to thank Choice Hotels for providing some comfortable beds for my guys to get a good night sleep and to Monster Energy for keeping them awake on this long day. I grew up racing late models and it was fun to be in my ButlerBuilt seat for this one, putting on a great show for the fans and most importantly raising money for the fight against Cystic Fibrosis.”
