DETROIT (April 17, 2013) – The next stop for the Chevrolet IndyCar V6 teams and drivers is the challenging 1.968-mile, 11-turn temporary course on the Streets of Long Beach (California). The Long Beach Grand Prix Indy, race number three of the 2013 season, is one of the oldest and most popular events on the IZOD IndyCar Series schedule.

“The Chevrolet IndyCar Twin Turbo V6 is off to a strong start in 2013 with two poles and two victories,” said Chris Berube, Chevrolet Racing Program Manager, IZOD IndyCar Series. “But the road to the championship is a long one with many important milestones along the way.  This weekend we return to Long Beach with a season of experience to reflect on as our 14 Chevrolet drivers take on the second street course of the season on the very intricate Streets of Long Beach.  It challenges both the driver and the teams to get the optimum set-up under the car to get the Chevy power to the ground and compete for the win.”

Several Team Chevy drivers have enjoyed success on the tight street course. James Hinchcliffe who took Chevrolet to Victory Lane on the Streets of St. Petersburg in the 2013 season-opening race, has one podium and another top-five finish to his credit at Long Beach.  2012 Series’ Champion, Ryan Hunter-Reay, whose Chevrolet power took him to Victory Lane at Barber Motorsports Park in the second race of the year, won the Long Beach Grand Prix in 2010, and has scored three additional top-10 finishes in the race.

Will Power is the defending race winner. He has a total of two wins, five podium finishes and three poles to his credit at Long Beach. Helio Castroneves was the Long Beach winner from the pole in 2001. He has scored two podiums and two top-10 finishes on the famed street course.  Sebastien Bourdais put together a string of three consecutive wins at Long Beach (2005, ’06 and ’07), added two poles and another podium finish to his record.

In addition to the on-track competition, Chevrolet will debut its all-new 2013 Chevrolet Racing Display in the Lifestyle Expo at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center.  In addition to a number of Chevrolet vehicles for fans to see, there will be games and other interactive activities for fans of all ages. The display will open at 8:00 a.m. PT Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The highlight of the display activities will be question and answer sessions with many of the Chevrolet IZOD IndyCar Series drivers including: Dragon Racing drivers Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastian Saavedra at Noon on Friday, and Panther Racing’s JR Hildebrand, Friday at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday Team Penske’s Will Power, Helio Castroneves and A.J. Allmendinger will appear at 12:45 p.m. Sunday KV Racing Technology drivers Tony Kanaan and Simona de Silvestro will take the stage at 10:30 a.m. and the “Champ”, Ryan Hunter-Reay from Andretti Autosport, will meet the fans at 10:45 a.m. All times are Pacific Times.

The Grand Prix of Long Beach Indy is scheduled to start Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 1:00  p.m. PT (3:15 p.m. ET) with live television coverage on NBC Sports Network (Verizon FiOS 90/590, DirecTV 220, DISH 159 and AT&T UVerse 640) and broadcast by the IMS Radio Network, including on Sirius and XM Channels 211 and www.indycar.com. CHEVROLET IN THE IZOD INDYCAR SERIES – FROM THE DRIVER’S SEAT:

HELIO CASTRONEVES, NO. 3 AUTO CLUB TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, POINTS LEADER:
“The No. 3 Auto Club Team Penske Chevrolet has a lot of good momentum going into Long Beach and our plan is to stay consistent and to keep it going. The overtake system should create some more opportunities to make some moves during the race so hopefully we can use that to our advantage and keep recording podium finishes.”

RYAN HUNTER-REAY, NO 1 DHL ANDRETTI AUTOSPORT CHEVROLET, 3RD IN STANDINGS (ONE 2013 WIN):
“I’m really happy to have some much needed momentum going into one of my favorite race events of the year. We’ll be looking to follow up a huge win at Barber with another big weekend in Long Beach. As past winners of this race we know what we need to do to get the job done, most importantly we need to keep that No. 1 DHL Chevy up towards the front all weekend, consistency is key. Long Beach is such a special race to me and my family for so many reasons, a great result here will go a long way in the fight to defend our championship.”

MARCO ANDRETTI, NO. 25 RC COLA ANDRETTI AUTOSPORT CHEVROLET, 4TH IN STANDINGS:
“Right now, I am hungrier than ever for a win. Stopping in Victory Lane in Long Beach would be a great accomplishment. This is a place with so much family history, that it would be a personal milestone for me. While I am never satisfied with where I am at any given moment, I feel very confident with my street course progress at this point in my career.”

JAMES HINCHCLIFFE, NO. 27 GODADDY.COM ANDRETTI AUTOSPORT CHEVROLET, 5TH IN STANDINGS (ONE 2013 WIN):
“I think back to Long Beach a year ago and how much has happened since then, and I’m excited to get back. Obviously, the track has been good to me in the past – but up to last weekend so had Barber (Motorsports Park) – so we can’t rest too much on that. Starting the season with a win was good and obviously our street car is quite competitive, hopefully we can go there and, even though I think we still have some work to do and some ground to make up on some of our competitors, be quick and put together a solid weekend and put the Go Daddy Chevy back on top.”

TONY KANAAN, NO. 11 HYDROXYCUT KV RACING TECHNOLOGY SH RACING CHEVROLET, 7TH IN STANDINGS:
“I’m looking forward to this weekend in Long Beach to get us a good result like the one we had there last year. Long Beach is a tough track, very physical, but also a very cool place to drive. The fan base there is awesome and the event is very well put together. I’m ready to get in the No.11 Hydroxycut/Chevy/Firestone and put on a good show for the So Cal fans.”

WILL POWER, NO. 12 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, 8TH IN STANDINGS:
“I am looking forward to the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet having a good weekend at Long Beach, I feel we have been on the cusp of some great races but haven’t been able to get it done all the way. The Chevrolet engines have certainly shown their power so far this season and we are hoping to follow up on our success at Long Beach in 2012. I always really enjoy the racing because it is so competitive and am excited for the same this weekend.”

E.J. VISO, NO. 5 TEAM VENEZUELA ANDRETTI AUTOSPORT HVM CHEVROLET, 10TH IN STANDINGS:
“Heading back into the street courses, it’s something that always excites me. I believe that after the good performance, good speed and good weekend that we had in St. Petersburg, we can only find a continuation of that this weekend in Long Beach. Long Beach is a very, very fun place to race. There are fast corners, slow corners and long straights so that always brings a lot of action to the race.”

SIMONA DE SILVESTRO, NO. 78 NUCLEAR ENTERGY AREVA KV RACING TECHNOLOGY CHEVROLET, 11TH IN STANDINGS:
“I’m really excited to be coming back to Long Beach. I won my first Atlantic race here and really love this track. We had a great season opener in St. Pete with the Nuclear Clean Air Entergy car and I think we can have similar or even better results here. I really like driving here and am looking forward to doing so with Chevy power. We had a good car here last year and I think that if we take that and add in our Chevy power we have a really good chance to finish in the top five or maybe even on the podium. It should be fun.”

SEBASTIEN BOURDAIS, NO. 7 MCAFEE DRAGON RACING CHEVROLET, 15TH IN STANDINGS:
“Long Beach has historically been pretty good to me, and after a rough start of the season I sure hope the McAfee/Chevrolet No. 7 will be running at the front ! It is also a home race for Dragon Racing and our sponsors which makes it even more important.”

ORIOL SERVIA, NO. 22 PANTHER DRYER & REINBOLD RACING CHEVROLET, 18TH IN STANDINGS:
“I am very excited for Long Beach, I love that race. It’s been such a big race forever and a big part of my career. I really want to win it. The car was great in St. Pete and it’s a similar set-up in Long Beach. We’re going to turn things around and show how much better we are than last year.”

ED CARPENTER, NO. 20 FUZZY’S VODKA ED CARPENTER RACING CHEVROLET, 20TH IN STANDINGS:
“I’m excited to back to Long Beach.  Our Fuzzy’s Chevrolet was better at St. Pete than we were at Barber.  There are many more similarities from St. Pete to Long Beach.  I think the Long Beach event.  It’s a legendary race.  The result wasn’t that great at Barber but I do feel we have made some progress with the road and street setups.   I would be even more excited if we were at Fontana rather than Long Beach.  Our last trip to Southern California was very good, winning at Fontana.  But we’ll have to wait until October for that one.  The trip will be similar as we’ll make a visit at Disneyland. The routine will be similar though.  This trip is fun for the family because it’s near Disneyland.  The history and the tradition at Long Beach make it one of the biggest races on our schedule.  The big crowd always makes it more exciting there too for the competitors.  You’re a bigger stage there.  It’s one that everyone enjoys going to each year.”

JR HILDEBRAND, NO. 4 NATIONAL GUARD PANTHER RACING CHEVROLET, 21ST IN STANDINGS:
“I’m excited to get back to Long Beach; we had a good race there last year in the National Guard Chevy. A lot of the things we learned in St. Pete to have such a good car on Sunday compared to earlier in that weekend will transfer when we go over there. I feel like we’ve got a lot of things that we want to try that will be really good. It’s a place that I enjoying racing, and I always have fun driving the car there, so we’ll put the first two races behind us and try to get some points and move forward from there.”

SEBASTIAN SAAVEDRA, NO.  6 TRUECAR DRAGON RACING CHEVROLET, 23RD IN STANDINGS:
“I am quite excited to come back to long beach. It’s a place that has treated me very well in the past and want to keep that good momentum going with IndyCar. We have the speed and the race pace, we are lacking in couple aspects which I believe we have already sorted out from previous races. We’ve been very close to get into the top 6 in qualifying and that’s one of my objectives this weekend, but giving the team the first top 10 finish is our main focus. One of many this season.”

A.J. ALLMENDINGER, NO. 2 PENSKE AUTOMOTIVE CHEVROLET, 25TH IN STANDINGS:
“It is really exciting for me to return to Long Beach in the No. 2 Penske Automotive Chevrolet. I am looking forward to getting reacquainted with the circuit, I still remember it well and it was always one of my favorite places to race. Our plan is to build on the experience we gained in Barber to come out even stronger and compete at a higher level this weekend.”
