Chevrolet Will Donate $200 to American Cancer Society for Each lap Specially Themed Pace Car Leads Field Under Caution

DETROIT – Chevrolet – which has raised over $2.2 million since 2011 for the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” initiative through dealership walks, national test drive promotions and national service rebate promotions – will donate to the cause $200 for every lap run under caution during select NASCAR Sprint Cup and IZOD IndyCar Series races in September and October, starting with this weekend’s NASCAR event at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

In addition to the donation, to help raise awareness, a specially themed pink “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Chevrolet Camaro SS will also serve as the pace car for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Atlanta Motor Speedway (September 1), Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (October 19) and Martinsville (Va.) Speedway (October 26). A specially themed 2014 Corvette Stingray will serve as the pace car for the IZOD IndyCar Series event at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. (October 19).

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“We’re so proud that we are able to participate and contribute to the American Cancer Society’s ‘Making Strides Against Breast Cancer’ initiative, and that this year we can expand it to even more events,” said Jan Thomas, Chevy Racing NASCAR Marketing Manager. “Every year we are overwhelmed by the positive response that we receive, and hopefully the pink pace cars will serve to help race fans remember all of the upcoming events in October, and remind everyone that we all can do our part in the fight against cancer.”

At Atlanta Motor Speedway on Friday, Team Chevy NASCAR drivers Kasey Kahne (No. 5 Farmers Insurance Chevrolet SS) and Danica Patrick (No. 10 Chevrolet SS) will provide on-track pace car rides to 25 cancer survivors, sign autographs and participate in a question-and-answer session.
