MOORESVILLE, N.C. (July 30, 2014) – Sam Hornish Jr. and the No. 54 Monster Energy team will return together to the site of their earlier Midwest victory, Iowa Speedway in Newton, for this weekend’s U.S. Cellular race presented by New Holland. The Hornish name will again be over the door of the black Toyota Camry Saturday night with Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), the fifth of seven races for the Monster Energy athlete. Hornish Jr. will additionally have the wheel of the already four-time winning Toyota, August 6 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington and September 20 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta.

The 35-year-old’s NASCAR career consists of 131 starts in the Sprint Cup Series and 104 career starts in the Nationwide Series with three wins, 31 top-five finishes, 56 top-10 finishes and six poles recorded in the NNS. Last year alone, Hornish secured four pole positions, one win (Las Vegas, Nev., ’13), 16 top-five and 25 top-10 finishes en route to a second-place driver standing at season end, three points shy of a Nationwide Series championship. Hornish Jr. famously touts a strong career in the IndyCar Series where he has been champion three times (’06, ’02 and ’01) and collected 19 wins across eight race seasons, including the famed Indy 500 victory in 2006.

Crew Chef Adam Stevens is again looking forward to the opportunity with Hornish Jr., a Napolean, Ohio native, who in the spring at Iowa Speedway started second, led 167 laps and grabbed the checkered flag. In addition to Hornish Jr.’s victory, Stevens has led series regular Kyle Busch and team to three wins and a total 16 top-five finishes in 19 races run so far this season. The veteran NNS crew chief looks to record his second win on the 7/8th-mile oval set in the Iowa cornfields. Look for Stevens and Hornish Jr. to be strong contenders once more with their No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing team, driven to bring home the checkered flag.

With a second-place finish in last week’s Indianapolis (Ind.) Motor Speedway race, the No. 54 Monster Energy team and owner J.D. Gibbs maintain their first place lead in the series’ Owner’s Championship points, by eight markers. This week they look to increase that lead, but it’s sure to be a continued battle with the No. 22 Penske Racing Ford driven this week by ongoing rival, and former teammate to Hornish Jr., Brad Keselowski.

Sam Hornish Jr., Driver of the No. 54 NASCAR Nationwide Series Monster Energy Toyota Camry:

Are you excited to return with JGR and the No. 54 team as defending winners in Iowa?

“I’m really happy about being the defending winner at Iowa and feel like there’s a good possibility we’ll be even better this go around. Being back in the Monster Energy car and having the opportunity to rebound from Chicagoland, makes it all the better.”

Adam Stevens, Crew Chief of the No. 54 NASCAR Nationwide Series Monster Energy Toyota Camry:

What are your expectations with Hornish and the No. 54 team at Iowa for a Saturday night race?

“It will be great to return to Iowa with Sam. He did an incredible job there last time. This weekend we practice during the day but race at night. The track conditions will change dramatically so you have to stay in front of it with your adjustments. Iowa seems to get bumpier by the minute. The tire that Goodyear brings has a lot of lap time fall off which makes for good racing.”
