PRESS RELEASE

Transmission Takes Toll on
Allgaier’s Triumph at Rockingham

‘Finish doesn’t warrant performance of young driver’

Justin Allgaier Motorsports Press Release

Rockingham, NC (May 4, 2008)- Justin Allgaier took to the track for the running of the inaugural Carolina 500 ARCA RE/MAX Series race at the Rockingham Speedway starting in the eight place position in the 50 car mega-field Sunday, May 4, 2008. Allgaier, who won at the Salem Speedway a few weeks ago, looked to have a strong car all day but transmission troubles forced a mid race change sending Allgaier home in the 27th place position.

From the start of the 312-lap race, the 21-year-old looked to have a strong car but on lap 12 he was caught up in the aftermath of an incident in front of him causing minor front end damage. The team had no choice but to bring Allgaier down pit road on lap 13 long before any of the other leaders. This spot cost Allgaier valuable positions restarting in the 30th place on lap 17.

“We were just going to ride at the beginning of this race,” Allgaier said. “It’s just unfortunate we got caught in that losing so many positions. We were able to make the spots up and thankfully the damage wasn’t significant.”

A long green flag run helped Allgaier advance through the field and with fresher tires he opted to stay out to gain valuable positions on the track at the caution on lap 54. This strategy paid off with Allgaier restarting second on lap 59.

The cars with the fresher tires started to catch Allgaier so when the caution flew on lap 84 he brought down the AG Tech-Hoosier Midwest-Simpson Safety Chevrolet down for his second set of tires, one round out of the track bar and to take tape off the grill. Allgaier had already reported having issues with third gear and had to be pushed out of his pit stall restarting 20th.

Allgaier advanced through the field to the fourth place position, running the fastest laps on the race track but the transmission problem worsened losing second and third gear. When the caution flew on lap 153, Allgaier came down pit lane to have the transmission changed in the car. Without replacing the part, the car could have locked up sending them out of the race but instead they changed it in 34 laps getting Allgaier back out on the track for valuable positions and points.

Despite being multiple laps down Allgaier consistently ran times faster than the leaders when he returned to the track on lap 188 in 34th position. Against the odds Allgaier worked his way past other lapped cars to gain eight positions for the finish on lap 312 in 27th place.

“The finish wasn’t a reflection of how the car ran today,” Allgaier said. “We knew we weren’t going to win with having to change the transmission but we were able to come back out and regain some spots. We have a small group of guys including my Dad that help us out every week and they are the best. Getting me back out on the track without losing a lap on the first incident on lap 12 then to change a transmission in 34 laps, it is really an accolade to how dedicated these guys are. We have a very low funded team but these guys give it their all. I just wish I could have given them a better finish.”

Allgaier dropped from the third place position in 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series Championship points to the six spot as the Series moves to the Kentucky Speedway for the Drive Smart! Buckle Up Kentucky 150 race Saturday, May 10, 2008.
