Michael Phelps and Cunningham Motorsports Rockingham Race Report
Mountain Empire Sports Marketing Group Press Release
Statham, GA (May 7, 2008) – Michael Phelps, Tayler Malsam and Nick Tucker race their way in the Carolina 500K this weekend and discovered why this track is called the “ROCK.” The Cunningham Motorsports teams competed with forty seven other competitors in the 312 lap event before a sun drenched crowd. Michael Phelps driving the #45 Bowen Family Homes Dodge Charger had a tough day finishing in the 37th position after an accident in turn three that also involved a number of other drivers.
Unfortunately the incident disrupted and ended the day for Michael Phelps and the Bowen Family Homes team. Tayler Malsam also involved in the same accident would feel the effects of the accident and cause the #4 Dodge Motorsports Firedown Graphics Dodge Charger to have aero issues for the remainder of the event. Tayler would finish in the 14th position in the event. Nick Tucker driving the #59 Dodge Pro-Cal Charger would finish in the 16th spot on Sunday afternoon. The teams will have a short week in preparation for the Drive Smart! Buckle Up Kentucky 150 on the 1.5 mile track at Kentucky Speedway. Michael Phelps and Tayler Malsam will be racing for the top position when the green flag waves on Saturday evening at 8:00 pm.
Michael Phelps and the #45 Bowen Family Homes team will be geared up for the event at Kentucky this Saturday night, bringing a new race car and a strong attitude for winning. The team has tested well at the 1.5 mile tracks in pre season and will bring an aggressive setup for the race. General Manager Mark Gibson stated, “We had good race cars at Rockingham this weekend and Michael just got caught up with someone else’s mistake. The #45 and #4 will be competitive and I am looking forward to a good night of racing from both of our teams.”
"I felt bad for the guys this weekend and I am disappointed about our finish. I got caught up in the melee in turn three and had no place to get around the accident. We are putting that behind us and moving on to Kentucky. We have top five cars every week, thanks to Allan Moore, Richard Ezekiel and my team. We have just had a streak of bad luck and now it is time we get the monkey off our back starting on Saturday. I am looking forward to racing at Kentucky Speedway and getting our team the top notch finish they deserve. I would like to thank Bowen Family Homes for all of their support,” said Michael.
The May 10th Drive Smart! Buckle Up Kentucky 150 at Kentucky Speedway also includes a same-day 100-lap feature event from the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series on the adjoining quarter mile track. Practice for the ARCA RE/MAX Series is from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm followed by SIM Factory Pole Qualifying at 3:30. The Drive Smart! Buckle Up Kentucky 150 is slated to get underway at 8:00 pm ET.
