Chris Lawson Looks to Make NASCAR Debut at Memphis
Hi-Speed Marketing Press Release
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (October 25, 2007) – Chris Lawson, 22-year-old native of Medway, Ohio, looks to make his NASCAR Busch Series debut this Saturday at the Memphis Motorsports Park. Lawson, currently a body hanger at Michael Waltrip Racing, enters the Sam’s Town 250 with Jimmy Means Racing, piloting the No. 52 Ford. The opportunity to drive this weekend arose after discussions with good friend and co-worker Brad Means, son of Jimmy Means.
“Basically, I was racing my late model at Hickory (Motor Speedway) one night,” explains Lawson. “I had told Brad that I’d be racing and he mentioned it to his dad. So, Jimmy (Means) came to watch me race and afterwards came up to me and said he thought I would be a good fit for the race at Memphis.”
With 49 cars entered, Lawson knows he really has to get the most out of practice and certainly out of qualifying, that he possibly can with only 43 cars making the starting field. It will be a tough task since Lawson has never competed in the NASCAR Busch Series, nor has he been able to practice the car, but a task, nonetheless, that Lawson feels he can accomplish.
“I’ve got my work cut out for me, that’s for sure, but I have all the confidence in the world that Jimmy and the crew will have the car prepared as best they can,” said Lawson, a late model standout from Ohio. “I’m going in blind. I have no prior experience and haven’t seen any pictures of Memphis Motorsports Park. I would’ve liked to have had a chance to race it online, but just haven’t had the opportunity. However, Jimmy has a ton of experience in this sport and I hope to learn as much as I’m able to this weekend. I want to secure a starting spot in Saturday’s race and just be able to stay out of trouble and finish the race. If all goes well, and we’re able to make the show, then there’s the potential I’ll be able to give it a go in Phoenix in a couple weeks as well.”
Practice for the Sam’s Town 250 gets underway Friday afternoon, with qualifying taking place on Saturday morning at 10:35 a.m. EST. Qualifying will be shown live with the Sam’s Town 250 also televised live, beginning at 3:00 p.m. EST, both on ESPN2. It will also be broadcast on MRN and Sirius Satellite Radio.
