RACING PERSPECTIVES

A Driver's Journal
by Lyndon Amick-BGN Driver and Staff Writer
11/02/2002

Hello Racing Fans!

Well, another week has come and gone and it’s time for me to put my thoughts down on paper. I had a bit of a disappointing weekend actually. The No. 15 Sunrise Farm Fresh team was geared up to race in Atlanta last weekend, but it seems Mother Nature had other plans.

My team and I got to the track on Thursday and spent the afternoon going through tech inspection. I had been hearing conflicting reports about the weather all week, and we were all a little worried about rain causing problems with qualifying on Friday afternoon. With only one race together under our belts and very few owner points we knew we would not be eligible for a provisional and would have to qualify our way into the race. When I woke up to rain in the Atlanta area on Friday morning, I knew we were in trouble.

The Busch teams never got a morning practice session but NASCAR waited quite a while to cancel qualifying. We kept hoping the skies would clear up, but no such luck. The team and I were definitely really disappointed, but when it comes to a situation like that there isn’t anything you can do. We were really looking forward to backing up the run we had at Kansas City and were sure we could do it since our test in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago went so well. I guess that’s the way things go sometimes and we certainly don’t have anything to hang our heads about.

Since we didn’t race last weekend, there is a good possibility that we will head to Homestead instead. We thought about testing there, but have decided not to. Hopefully everything will work out and we will be able to race in that event at the end of the season. If not, I am still proud of what Red Dog, the crew at ppc Racing and myself have accomplished. We set out to finish in the top 10 in Kansas City and that’s exactly what we did. I proved to myself and to others that I can get the job done. It would be great to have another opportunity to race for an organization as good as ppc Racing again this year though, so hopefully we can get that done.

Until next time,
Lyndon
