RACING PERSPECTIVES

A Driver's Journal
by Lyndon Amick-BGN Driver and Staff Writer
11/12/2002

Hello Race Fans!

I hope the writing of this latest entry finds you all well and rested after the Thanksgiving holiday. Melanie, Billy and I spent quite a bit of time with our families, which gave some of our family members the opportunity to see Billy for the first time and it gave me the opportunity to do some hunting as well.

Actually, I have been busy taking advantage of hunting season for the past couple of weeks. This weekend I’m heading to Arkansas for a couple of days of duck hunting with family and friends. A group of us, including my brother and brothers in law, will load our things into the motorhome and make the trip from South Carolina to Jonesboro, Arkansas, which is about an hour northwest of Memphis, Tennessee.

When the temperatures start to go down, the ducks start to move south and this is the best time for hunting in that area. Where we are going is called the Mississippi Flyway. There are four Flyways in the United States, the area in Mississippi, which has the largest population of waterfowl, as well as the Pacific, Atlantic and Central Flyways. I’ll bet you didn’t realize you would be getting a lesson in duck hunting when you logged onto Catchfence.com today. Anyway, we’ll spend about three days hunting there before heading home.

Other than that there isn’t too much else going on. It gets kind of tough to write a journal about racing when there isn't any going on, you know? Our plans for next year are still up on the air, but in this business especially, you never know what might happen, when. On the baby front, Billy weighed in at 12 pounds when he went to the pediatrician this week, up from the eight pounds, eight ounces he weighed at birth. I'm waiting for the day he'll be able to catch a football I toss at him, but since he is only a month old I guess I need to be a little patient.

Until next time,

Lyndon Amick
