RACING PERSPECTIVES

Missed Opportunities And The Number 34
by DJ Kennington - Staff Writer
NASCAR Nationwide Series Driver
03/27/2008

As a season progresses, each week the MacDonald Motorsports team looks better and better only to have crazy things go wrong. Our trip to Atlanta was the oddest thing I have ever experienced. 70 degrees one day, snowing the next. With only getting 3 laps of practice in we were behind the 8-ball early. If we only knew that 2 more laps of practice would be so crucial!

On lap 2 of the race our battery cable came undone as we slowly crept around the track, ruining our day before it got started. The team battled as hard as any to finish the race in 34th, our worse finish to date.

Heading to Bristol was a highlight for us. This was the first track that I actually had experiece at and was hoping to put the Mahindra Dodge near the front. With rain on the horizon we moved quickly to the middle of the pack to only have a gear failure put us behind the wall. Right when we got ready to go back in the race, the rain fell and halted the action. Once again we finished in 34th. I think we are seeing a pattern here!

As the team focused on the Music City, we were determined to make up ground in the points standings. We arrived on Thursday in the morning and played 9 holes of golf. Being from Canada, I was really pumped to see that the Nashville Predators and Detriot Red Wings were playing downtown. We took in the game as was ready the next morning for the race.

We qualified well at Nashville and was looking for a good race. As fortune would have it, we encountered problems once again, cutting a tire in the closing laps to finish...you guessed it...34th.

Three weeks in a row we had a solid car and was unable to capitalize on it. As we head to Texas, we are looking to stay away from the #34 on all aspects, so much so, members are going to size 36 waist in pants to break the curse. With anything other than bad luck, we hope to gain on the competition and really show just how good our team is.

Onwards; Thanks to everyone for their support!

Until next time,

DJ Kennington
