Wood Brothers Racing Brings Back 1971 #21 Mercury Paint Scheme For Darlington: Wood Brothers Racing will be placing its 1971 Mercury paint scheme on the #21 Motorcraft Ford Fusion in Darlington this weekend for the Dodge Challenger 500 on Saturday night, May 10th. Bill Elliott will drive the #21 Motorcraft Ford Fusion with the vintage paint scheme. The candy apple red and white COT with the signature gold numbers will commemorate a time in Wood Brother's racing history when David Pearson drove the #21 to five wins and eight pole starting positions at Darlington Raceway. The #21 Purolator Mercury moved back into the racing scene when Leonard Wood recently restored the race car that was housed in the Darlington Raceway Museum for over 30 years. David Pearson and Carl Edwards brought modern and classic race cars together again in a media event for the newly surfaced raceway in April. Pearson made laps in the original Mercury as Carl Edwards followed in the new COT style race car. Leonard Wood stood by and buckled Pearson in, as he did as Pearson’s crew chief years ago. Scenes of the special feature will air during the pre-race show NASCAR Raceday on Speed Saturday, May 10th at 5:00pm EDT. Edwards Re-Signs With Roush Fenway Racing: Carl Edwards announced that he has re-signed with Roush Fenway Racing – a multi-year deal that will keep him behind the wheel of the No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion. In addition, crew chief Bob Osborne is back this week after completing his six-week NASCAR suspension. Edwards spoke about those issues after Friday’s practice session at Richmond International Raceway. “I signed my contract yesterday, so I’m staying with Roush. I looked at everything and I talked to everybody and, for me, the number one thing is looking into the future and saying, ‘Where can I win the most races and have the most success?’ I was honored at the people who I got to speak with and I just feel like for me personally this is where I want to be for the near future and we got it done. It’s good. I’m real happy about it. It’s a huge relief. It really wasn’t that painful. Geoff Smith and I get along really well and we just pretty much sat down and he’s really easy for me to deal with. It took us about a week-and-a-half of going back and forth with just little things and I feel like the luckiest guy in the world for the contract I got.” - More

Sadler’s Autism Awareness Helmet Online Auction Begins Thurs, May 1 and ends May 19: For the month of April, Elliott Sadler has worn a specially-designed Autism Awareness helmet at every track. Now, that very same helmet will belong to whoever wants it most. A day after celebrating his 33rd birthday, Sadler placed the helmet up for auction on www.sadlerfoundation.org on Thursday, May 1 where bidding will remain open until May 19. To raise funds and awareness, Sadler had the helmet designed with the colorful, jigsaw Autism puzzle pieces. During the Texas, Phoenix and Talladega races in April, the driver of the No. 19 Dodge wore the colorful concoction in competition. It was donated by Impact Racing and designed by Ryan Young of Indocil Art. The awareness and auction are more than just the NASCAR driver being charitable – it’s personal. “Helping to create awareness for autism is an extremely important cause for me,” Elliott Sadler said. “It hits really close to home because my niece, Halie, is autistic. The great Autism related charities we’ve worked with over the years offer many different programs and opportunities to help not only those suffering from this developmental disability, but also their families. “It is a cause that I’ll do all I can to help raise money and awareness. “We’re not just trying to raise money for the Hermie and Elliott Sadler Charitable Foundation, we’re looking to educate people and raise more awareness about Autism.” Once the auction concludes on May 19th, the winner bidder will receive the autographed helmet and a Certificate of Authenticity from Elliott Sadler on Elliott Sadler Enterprises letterhead. Bid now, bid big - and help Autism. About the Hermie and Elliott Sadler Charitable Foundation: The Hermie and Elliott Sadler Charitable Foundation is dedicated to raising autism awareness and promoting research for a cure; while also supporting initiatives to improve educational opportunities for children and their families. The Foundation provides support to projects that share the ideals and concerns of the Sadler family. - Gillett Evernham Motorsports, Press Release
