Quoting Yates Racing Driver, Travis Kvapil:
What are the challenges that you face racing at a track like Martinsville?
“I really enjoy Martinsville because I actually made my first Cup series start at Martinsville in 2004. I’ve always had pretty good luck when I raced in the Truck series and I also had a few good runs in the Cup series where we qualified well. I enjoy the short tracks on the Cup series circuit and Martinsville is one of the great ones we get to race at. The emphasis at Martinsville is on handling and taking care of your equipment so that you can be there to finish at the end of the day.”
“I feel that Martinsville is more challenging in a lot of aspects, than racing at a banked short track like Bristol. There are more demands on the race car and it presents more wear and tear on the brakes. Martinsville is harder on the rear gears of the cars and just being able to keep the fenders on your car all race long is something that you fight hard to do. With the limited space on the track and the nature of short track racing, it becomes fairly easy to get bumped around which can alter your car’s handling, so my focus is to keep the car clean all race long.”

What are your thoughts headed into Martinsville this weekend?
“I am being cautiously optimistic about this weekend at Martinsville. We are taking a brand new chassis which we have yet to run this year and we’ll see how that car pans out. Travis (Kvapil) has raced at Martinsville both in the Cup and Truck series so he is well aware of the track and the challenges that Martinsville poses. Hopefully this weekend we’ll be able to get qualifying in, and after looking over all our notes and set-ups going into this weekend, I think that we should have a pretty solid performance for this team. Our goal every weekend is to showcase what Yates Racing has to offer and I feel confident that we can do that this weekend at Martinsville.”
