PRESS RELEASE

Edwards Joins SPEED™ Broadcast Team For NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race XXIV Weekend
Big Screen & Big Smoke Highlight SPEED Features During This Year's All-Star Fete
SPEED TV, Press Release

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standout Carl Edwards will once again join the SPEED announce crew during the broadcast of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race XXIV (May 17; 7 p.m. E.T.) live and in high definition from Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C.

Edwards, who has also co-hosted SPEED’s The Chase is On with Steve Byrnes the previous two seasons, will reprise his role as a pit road reporter during the preliminary NASCAR Sprint All-Star Showdown. Last year, he just missed the All-Star Race when he finished third in the Showdown, opening an opportunity for SPEED to use Edward’s off-track talents to cover the All-Star Race nightcap.

The Columbia, Mo. native has won three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races this season, and is among those already qualified for this year’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race XXIV.

Edwards will join Steve Byrnes, Matt Yocum and Dick Berggren on pit road, while Krista Voda and Jeff Hammonds will host SPEED’s Sprint All-Star Race coverage. Mike Joy, Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds will be calling the race from the broadcast booth.

RACING IN THE BIG APPLE: For the second straight year, New York City’s Times Square will be the television home to this year’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race XXIV. The 1,400-square-foot Panasonic Astrovision Screen, which faces North above Military Island located at One Times Square, will be bringing SPEED’s live coverage of the race to one of the most populous outdoor areas in the world.

Times Square is located at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue in New York City and spans from West 42nd to West 47th Street and is most famously noted for its New Year’s Eve celebration, where more than 750,000 people gather to celebrate the ushering in of every New Year.

NASCAR RACEDAY IS BURNING: The NASCAR RaceDay All-Star Pre-Race show on SPEED will expand to three-hours starting at 4 p.m. (May 17) and will include live coverage of Lowe’s Motor Speedway’s inaugural ‘burnout’ competition featuring five NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers, including Richard Childress Racing’s Clint Bowyer.

Contestants will have to complete two 360-degree spins and then drive into a ‘mock’ victory lane on the front stretch, while avoiding the apron and infield grass. The quickest time wins a donation of $10,000 to their favorite charity.

NASCAR RACEDAY PRE-SHOW ACTIVITIES: In addition to music and entertainment from the SPEED at-track crew, fans gathering at the SPEED Stage 30 minutes before NASCAR RaceDay show time can send 30-second video postcards to friends and family, wishing them well from NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race XXIV. In addition, fans can sign up for their SPEED Fanatics passport, part of the network affinity program that offers participants special opportunities throughout the race season.

A FULL SLATE at IRWINDALE: TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale (Calif.) has made arrangements to show SPEED ‘s live broadcast of the May 17 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on a large vision screen (20’ X 27’) during its Saturday night short track event.

The screen will be situated so fans attending that evening will be able to watch from the grandstand broadcast coverage of the races, pre-race ceremonies and NASCAR Victory Lane, as well Irwindale’s Whelen All-American NASCAR short track racing program - all at the same time.

This event last year was one of the track’s most successful and well attended Saturday night programs of the year.

SPEED is the nation's first and foremost cable television network dedicated to motor sports and the passion for everything automotive. From racing to restoration, motorcycles to movies, SPEED delivers quality programming from the track to the garage. Now available in more than 78 million homes in North America, SPEED is among the fastest-growing sports cable networks in the country and, the home to NASCAR on SPEED and an industry leader in interactive TV, video on demand, mobile initiatives and broadband services.
