Slugger Labbe’s Last Race As Crew Chief Goes Up In Smoke

Tilton / Getty Images) Richard “Slugger” Labbe in his last night atop the box, was hoping to provide driver Paul Menard with his second career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory Saturday night at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway. Instead, their night went up in smoke, after just 136 laps into the Bank of America 500. It was Labbe’s last night as crew chief for the No. 27 Chevrolet SS, as he’ll step away from the commander post to a leadership role of Richard Childress Racing’s research and development department. (Oct. 24, 2014) – Jamie McMurray drove his No. 1 McDonald’s Chevrolet SS to the pole position Friday at Martinsville Speedway for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500. McMurray posted a lap of 18.954 seconds (99.905 mph) for his second career pole position at the track. McMurray’s lap was good enough for a 0.057-second gap back to second place and his 11th career pole in the Sprint Cup Series.
