Kurt Busch Foundation Takes Inaugural King’s Cup

Filed under Other Series, Press Releases, Sprint Cup Series

Mooresville, N.C. (May 19, 2009) – The inaugural King’s Cup Karting for a Cause provided a great way to kickoff the racing action in the Charlotte area. In the end the Kurt Busch Foundation team held off the Denny Hamlin Foundation team by 18 seconds in an event that lasted three hours and 40 minutes.

The event, which benefited the Paralyzed Veterans of America, raised over $60,000 for the organization through sponsorships, general admission ticket sales and a silent auction that featured 75 pieces from all across the NASCAR world.

“We are all humbled by the support we received tonight by so many people from the NASCAR community,” said ‘The King’ Richard Petty. “In the end, Kurt Busch and his team proved that they were the team to beat on this night. The event raised a lot of money for a great cause and we hope that it becomes bigger and better as we continue to grow it into one of the biggest events during our race weeks here in Charlotte.”

About Paralyzed Veterans of America

Sixty-two years ago, Paralyzed Veterans of America was founded by a band of spinal cord injured service members who returned home from World War II to a grateful nation, but also to a world with few solutions to the challenges they faced. These veterans from the Greatest Generation made a decision not just to live, but to live with dignity as contributors to society. They created Paralyzed Veterans, dedicated to veterans service, medical research, and civil rights for people with disabilities. And for more than six decades, Paralyzed Veterans and our 34 chapters have been working to create an America where all veterans, and people with disabilities, and their families, have everything they need to thrive.
