FORD 300

NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES RACE

AT HOMESTEAD-MIAMI SPEEDWAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2009

· Mike Bliss clinched the 2009 WIX Filters Lap Leader Award in tonight’s Ford 300. Bliss captured WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in six events this season. He led eight times in eight races for a total of 197 laps. In 178 NASCAR Nationwide Series races, Bliss has led 29 times for 579 total laps.

· Bliss finished the season fifth in the series championship standings.

· Bliss scored one win, seven top-five and 15 top-10 finishes this season. He won race No. 11 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (Concord, N.C.), the second win of his career. Both of Bliss’ victories have come at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (his other win came there in the 2004 fall race).

Mike Bliss

· BLISS QUOTES: DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START TO DESCRIBE THE 2009 SEASON?

“It was the highs and lows. We won Charlotte and had some good runs, we had runs and then I was left without a ride sitting there on a Monday trying to figure out what I was going to do. Just did a couple start and parks to maybe stay in the top-10 in points. I drove a lot of cars, met a lot of people, it was kind of fun. It was actually a fun year the way it’s ending now. I never thought I’d be in the situation I am here kind of knotted up a little bit about trying to stay in the top-five.”

ARE YOU PLEASED WITH THE YEAR THAT YOU’VE HAD?

“Oh yeah and really I couldn’t have done it without driving the CJM car, the 11 Nationwide car. I had some good finishes and some good runs with them and that’s what really helped me out a lot. Without them I probably wouldn’t be here today in this situation.”

DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING NEXT YEAR?

“No. We don’t have anything. I don’t have anything. There are some teams I’m talking to.”

Jason Keller was the WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race in tonight’s Ford 300. Keller led once for three laps and claimed the honor for the second time in 2009. He has now led 42 times 1,087 laps in 347 career superspeedway starts. Keller was credited with a 13th-place finish.

Back in Camo: Ken Butler III will be back in Aaron’s Outdoors Mossy Oak camouflage colors this weekend.
Homestead History: Ken Butler III will make his first career start at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend.

About Last Week: Ken Butler III had a strong run at Phoenix International Raceway last weekend until he lost power in the motor of his Aaron’s Outdoors Mossy Oak Chevrolet on lap 87. The motor problem forced Butler behind the wall and ultimately ended his day with a 32nd-place finish in the Able Body Labor 200.

Final Start: This weekend marks Ken Butler III’s last race with R3 Motorsports and longtime sponsor Aaron’s. He is uncertain where he will end up next season but has several teams interested in bringing him on board. Butler is currently seeking sponsorship opportunities for next season.

A Family Sport: Following in the footsteps of racing families such as the Allison’s and the Burton’s, Butler’s younger brother Brett is also working his way up the NASCAR ladder. With three starts in the Camping World Truck Series already under his belt, Brett will compete in his first CWTS race at Homestead Friday night at 7:30 p.m. on SPEED.

Fan Connection: Fans can keep up with all their favorite Aaron’s drivers on Twitter by logging on to twitter.com/AaronsSports. You can also keep up with the Butler brothers through their individual accounts at twitter.com/itsmeKB3 and twitter.com/BrettCButler.

I can’t thank Aaron’s enough for all the support they have given me throughout my career. I hope we can come out of Homestead with a strong finish so I can show Aaron’s how much I appreciate all their support. If the guys give me a good car that we can adjust on during the race I really think we can have a great weekend. The Aaron’s team has done a tremendous job this season. I am really proud of everything we have accomplished. We know what we have to do this weekend and I know we will have a great season finale.”

Chassis Info: The No. 23 Aaron’s Outdoors Mossy Oak Chevrolet team will use chassis No. 30 this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This will be the sixth race of the season for chassis No. 30. It was last used at Kansas Speedway when Robert Richardson Jr. drove to a 22nd-place finish.

Tune in for the win: The NASCAR Nationwide Series will close out the 2009 season at Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend. Live race coverage begins on ESPN2 at 4:00 p.m. EST and can be heard live on MRN Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio channel 128 at 4:00 p.m. EST.

RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE HISTORY

· DID YOU KNOW? The most recent Raybestos® Rookie to win a Nationwide Series race is Juan Pablo Montoya. Montoya captured the 2007 Corona Mexico 200 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez (Mexico City, Mexico), crossing the finish line .750 seconds ahead of Denny Hamlin (101 races).

· DID YOU KNOW? The most recent Raybestos® Rookie to win a pole position in the Nationwide Series is Justin Allgaier. Allgaier captured the top starting spot for the 2009 Kroger On Track For The Cure 250 at Memphis (Millington, Tenn.) Motorsports Park (three races).

· Landon Cassill won the 2008 Raybestos® Rookie of the Year in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Cassill finished the season with one pole and five top-10 finishes in 19 starts. He grabbed the top starting spot for the Camping World RV Sales 200 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (race No. 18). His best finishes were sixth-place efforts at Gateway (Madison, Ill.) International Raceway and Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway.

· The most recent streak for at least two Raybestos® Rookies to rank inside the top-10 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship standings is 21 consecutive races (2007 race at Kentucky Speedway, race No. 16, through 2008 Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, race No. 1).

· Roush Fenway Racing has won THREE OF THE LAST FOUR Raybestos® Rookie of the Year titles in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and FOUR since 2001.

2007: David Ragan

2006: Danny O’Quinn Jr.

2005: Carl Edwards

2001: Greg Biffle

Danny O’Quinn Jr. narrowly edged John Andretti to win the 2006 Raybestos® Rookie of the Year title in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. O’Quinn Jr. finished one point higher than Andretti in the final standings, the closet margin in NASCAR national series history. He also became the second driver in series history to win the award without completing the full schedule.

Kyle Busch posted a record-setting year on his way to the 2004 Raybestos® Rookie of the Year title. In 34 starts, Busch won five times, captured five poles and scored 16 top-five and 22 top-10 finishes. His second-place finish in the Nationwide Series championship standings is a record for a Raybestos® Rookie. Other Raybestos® Rookie records Busch owns or shares: most starts (34), most wins (tied with Greg Biffle), most top fives (tied with Greg Biffle), most top 10s, most money won ($2,027,050), most championship points (4,943), most laps led (1,108) and most races led (21).

David Stremme holds the record for fewest starts by a driver to win Raybestos® Rookie of the Year. In 2003, he started just 18 of the 34 races and was the top rookie finisher in 16 of those starts. Stremme scored three top-three finishes and had more top-10 finishes (seven) than any other first-year driver. He led six races for a total of 86 laps.

David Green was the first Raybestos® Rookie to win a Nationwide Series race, at Lanier, Ga., in 1991. Green captured the Nestle 200 by 1.58-seconds over Jeff Gordon, a fellow Raybestos® Rookie. A third Raybestos® Rookie, Todd Bodine, placed eighth in the race.

Dennis Setzer was the first Raybestos® Rookie to win TWO or more races in a season. In 1994, he won the Ford Credit 300 at South Boston (Va.) Speedway and The Pantry 300 at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

Steve Park was the first Raybestos® Rookie to win THREE or more races in a season. In 1997, he won the BellSouth Mobility/Opryland 300 at Nashville (Tenn.) Speedway, the Detroit Gasket 200 at Michigan International Speedway and the Autolite Platinum 250 at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.

Kenny Wallace was the first Raybestos® Rookie to win a pole in the Nationwide Series. Wallace grabbed the top starting spot for the 1989 Goody’s 300 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, the first race in the history of the Raybestos® Rookie of the Year program.

(Photo Credit: Jason Smith/Getty Images for NASCAR)

There’s no way Carl Edwards can beat Kyle Busch for the 2009 Nationwide Series Championship. But he did alter the celebration plan, when he captured the checkered flag at Phoenix and prevented Busch from clinching the title with one race to go.

Carl Edwards:
We kept him from having that trophy for one more week, there’s something to be said about that but in the end you race for a couple different things. You race for the championship for sure, but you really race for wins and that win feels good no matter what so I’m proud of my guys. Those guys on that 18 team, they’ve done a really good job, everyone. If they don’t seal it next week, which it looks like they are going to, they deserve it, they perform very well.

Edwards would call it a nearly flawless afternoon as he started second and finished first, grabbing his fifth victory of the season.

Edwards:
Great race cars, fast in practice, fast in qualifying, really strong on long runs. Mike Kelly and the guys made great changes throughout the race and got it real fast. There at the beginning Denny was good, Kevin was really good. I thought we might have had the third best car throughout the run and the changes we made were perfect and there at the end the car was really fast. I’m really proud of my guys, that was a lot of fun, I love this racetrack, it’s been very good to be in the Nationwide Series.

It was the third win on the one-mile track for Edwards and his second in the last three Nationwide Series races in the Arizona Desert. The Missouri driver just mentioned Denny as in Denny Hamlin, Kevin as in Kevin Harvick, who would wind up the runner-up. Hamlin, in the mean time, was the only driver other than Edwards to lead the event. Edwards was out front 109 of the 200 laps, Hamlin led the other 91 but he would finish 12th after getting into another run-in with Brad Keselowski and getting spun out. Kyle Busch had a bird’s eye view of his teammate getting turned around.

Kyle Busch:
88 flat out jumped the 20. He tried to get them to turn three and missed so he bottled up and drove into him into the center of the corner. What is wrong with that kid?

Hamlin bowed revenge when he spoke to ESPN pit reporter Dave Burns.

Denny Hamlin:
I could sit here and bash him for the next 20 seconds or so and give you a bunch of sounds bites and everything, but I’m just happy I signed up for next weeks Nationwide race and in turn there’s a lot of guys that owe him. There’s a lot of guys who have a lot of chips that they are going to cash in. I’m just going to be the first to the pay window.

Do you think that NASCAR needs to get involved with Brad now at this point?

Hamlin:
No, I’ll take care of him. It’s no biggie, I got him.

Keselowski had this to say about the incident on MRN.

Brad Keselowski:
We both just got into each other and unfortunately one of us turned around but I don’t want to see cars go around but it’s just part of the way this deal is. We were all racing hard and pushing on each other and sometimes it doesn’t work out.

Fathead offers Sweet Seats - on sale now!

Keselowski survived the Hamlin skirmish to finish fifth, just behind Reed Sorenson and Clint Bowyer who finished third and forth. Six to 10 it was David Ragan, Matt Kenseth, Mike Bliss, Kyle Busch was ninth and then Steve Wallace. 11 to 15: Jason Keller, again Hamlin was 12th, then it was James Buescher, Trevor Bayne and Scott Wimmer. Busch recorded his 29th top 10 finish in 34 races but came up 6 points short of clenching the championship before heading to Homestead. Busch and crew chief Jason Ratcliff, on the cool down lap.

Jason Ratcliff:
Not one thing went our way today guys, nice job pit crew, way to put this thing back together. Have to go on and do it next week.

Sorry about that man, I have no explanation. I have no idea what happened in this race car but we got it man, it’s ours. All we have to do is take the green next week and we’re going to be the champions. Sorry we couldn’t do it today.

Busch:
We didn’t it today because we didn’t deserve it, oh well.

As was just mentioned, all Busch needs to do now is take the green flag at Homestead, Miami this Saturday and the championship is his. But Carl Edwards is already working on a strategy to prevent even that.

Edwards:
I’ve been trying to work on Jimmy to play a game of Frisbee, maybe I’ll work on Kyle a little bit. I’m not going to say anything because if something happened I’d be incriminating myself

AVONDALE, Ariz. (November 16, 2009) – For his second consecutive NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race of 2009 with Phoenix Racing, in preparation for the pair’s full-time effort next season, James Buescher returned to the site of his first NNS start – Phoenix International Raceway. Piloting the No. 1 Miccosukee Resort & Gaming Chevrolet, Buescher qualified in the 20th position and battled his way to a 13th-place finish when the checkered flag flew on the Able Body Labor 200.

Starting the 200-lap race from 20th-place, Buescher quickly moved into the 14th position when the first caution waved on lap 9 for two fellow competitors spinning in front of the No. 1 Chevrolet. The Texas native did a good job of maneuvering his way through the wreck, escaping without any damage. As the field restarted on lap 13, Buescher was scored in the 13th position. As a long green-flag run ensued, the rookie slowly lost positions and fell to 17th-place as the Miccosukee Resort & Gaming Impala was facing a tight-handling condition entering the corner and a loose-handling condition exiting the corner.

As other competitors started to come to pit road for green-flag stops, Buescher was able to move into the 12th position, when the caution slowed the field on lap 79. The Marc Reno and Nick Harrison-led team called Buescher to the attention of his crew for four fresh tires, fuel, in addition to air pressure and track bar adjustments. On the lap 84 restart, the 19-year-old was running in the 11th position, which is where Buescher stayed until another wreck took place directly in front of the Phoenix Racing Chevrolet, 20 laps later. Once again, Buescher was able to escape without any damage.

When pit road opened, Reno and Harrison radioed for Buescher to come down and pit for four tires, fuel, and a minor air pressure adjustment, as the Chevrolet was handling “pretty good” after the adjustments made on the previous stop. On lap 105, the field went back to green-flag conditions, as Buescher ran in the 12th position. The youngster was able to move up one position before returning to pit road 50 laps later, as a caution flew for debris. Buescher came to the attention of his pit crew for four tires, fuel, and an air pressure adjustment to help the loose-handling condition. The field restarted on lap 157, with Buescher tallied in the 13th position. For the final 43 laps, Buescher continued to run inside the top-15 before crossing the finish line in 13th-place.

“Overall it was a decent day for this Miccosukee Resort & Gaming Chevrolet team,” said Buescher, after the race. “We battled hard throughout the whole race and the car was pretty good. Marc (Reno) and Nick (Harrison) just made small adjustments to fine tune the car as the race went on. I would have liked to finish in the top-10, but these two races have helped us get used to each other in preparation for next season. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity that I have been given for 2010 and we are going to finish in the top-10 and contend for wins.”

The performance was the 19-year-old rookie’s best start and finish at the 1-mile tri-oval and his 11th top-25 finish in 25 starts of 2009. Additionally, the Watkinsville, GA native closed the gap on a top-30 position in the 2009 championship owner point standings. The No. 09 entry remains 32nd in point’s just 419 markers outside the top-30.

In Saturday morning’s time trials Townley toured the “Valley of the Sun” in 27.653 seconds (130.185 mph) locking the No.09 machine into the field with a 27th-place starting position. The effort transcended his best starting position at PIR in three attempts by five spots.

When the green flag fell over the 43-car field signaling the start of the 200-mile event, Townley “set sail” into the top-20, but was sitting in the 25th-position when the afternoon’s first caution flag was waved on lap nine. A chassis adjustment, four Goodyear tires and Sunoco fuel were in order for the rookie as he made his way down pit road. When racing resumed on lap 12, the No. 09 machine was scored 31st on the leader board.

Townley maintained his position in the top-30 throughout a long green-flag run. Two caution flags for debris allowed the Zaxby’s Racing team to bring the yellow and blue machine down pit road for adjustments. At the day’s half-way point Townley was scored in the 25th position two laps down.

The rookie teetered between the 25th and 26th positions over the next 50 circuits. The long green-flag run forced the No. 09 machine to go another lap down to race leader, Carl Edwards. However, when the fifth caution flag slowed down the field on lap 153, Townley took the opportunity to stay out and take the wave around allowing the Zaxby’s Ford to gain back one of three laps. When racing resumed on lap 156 the Zaxby’s Ford was sitting in the 23rd-position.

Racing just two other cars on his lap, Townley would battle over the closing 44 laps to bring home a 23rd-place finish and Carl Edwards would go on to win the Able Body Labor 200.

Up next is the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The Ford 300 is the 35th and final race on the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule and John Wes Townley hopes to make his career first start on the 1.5-mile oval. All the action from Homestead begins at 4:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

(November 16, 2009) — Fresh off his fourth career Truck Series victory at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) on Friday evening, Kevin Harvick climbed behind the wheel of the No. 33 Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Rheem “Sun Runner” Chevrolet for the Nationwide Series Able Body Labor 200 Saturday afternoon. Starting the race from the third position, Harvick ran the entire race in the top four before finishing second. The finish marked Harvick’s 11th top-10 finish in 15 Nationwide starts at PIR and his fifth top-10 finish in five starts for KHI.

“Our Rheem ‘Sun Runner’ Chevrolet was really good this weekend,” said Harvick following the checkered flag. “From the time the guys unloaded, we were good. I wish we could have come up one spot better, but it was still a good day for the team. Great job to Ernie (Cope, crew chief) and the guys.”

Ready to repeat his Friday night win, Harvick started the race from the third position and quickly realized he had a car capable of competing up front in the 200-lap event. Settling into his position, Harvick ran laps equal to leaders Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards through the first caution on lap seven. Radioing the team that the car was not bad, Harvick restarted the race on lap 12 from the third spot.

Continuing to run in the third position, it became clear that passing would be hard on the one-mile track. Working towards second-place Edwards, Harvick was able to make the pass on lap 37 as the car became a little tight in the middle of the turns and loose off.

With a long green-flag run and cars on the lead lap dwindling, the No. 33 team began to prepare for their first scheduled stop of the day under green-flag conditions. As crew chief Ernie Cope prepared to bring Harvick down pit road on lap 78, the caution flag waved on lap 77 for debris. Taking full advantage of the caution, the team pitted for four fresh tires with an air-pressure adjustment and fuel. With a solid stop, Harvick restarted the race on lap 83 from the third spot.

Quickly after the restart, the caution waved again on lap 91 followed by another caution on lap 97 for a multi-car accident that resulted in the race being red flagged for track officials to clean the track.

With the race back under green on lap 104, Harvick moved back into the second position on lap 105 and settled in behind race leader and eventual winner Edwards. With the handling of the car becoming too loose, Harvick was able to maintain his position as Edwards pulled away to over a five second lead by lap 150.

Harvick opted to make his final stop of the race on lap 152 under caution for four tires with another air-pressure adjustment and fuel. Restarting the race from the third position on lap 155, Harvick wasted no time moving back into second. Several laps later, the final caution of the day waved and opting for track position, the team stayed out on track to restart the race from the second position on lap 163. Unable to pass the dominant car of Edwards, Harvick finished the 200-lap event in the second position.

Edwards won the race followed by Harvick, Reed Sorenson, Clint Bowyer and Brad Keselowski.

Carl Edwards did everything he could to keep Kyle Busch from clinching the 2009 Nationwide Series title in Saturday afternoon’s Able Body Labor 200 at Phoenix International Raceway, winning the race after leading the most laps.

Busch still could have clinched by finishing seventh or better, but he failed to do so. Instead, he finished ninth after a day that saw him spin early in an incident also involving Bowyer. Busch’s No. 18 team worked on the car on pit road throughout the race to minimize the damage. While Busch wasn’t able to clinch on Saturday, he did put himself in a position to where he only has to start next Saturday’s race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Edwards has pretty much already conceded the championship to Busch and sets his sights on 2010. - Full Story by Amanda Vincent – Louisville NASCAR

Phoenix Race Report

● Denny Hamlin finished 12th in the GameStop/New Super Mario Bros. Wii Toyota on Saturday at Phoenix International Raceway.

● Hamlin qualified his car on the pole with a new track record lap of 26.871 seconds around the one-mile oval.

● Hamlin would lead twice for a total of 91 laps on the day.

● On lap 157, Hamlin was spun by another competitor. He lost ten positions under that caution period while fixing minor body damage.

● Prior to the contact, Hamlin never spent any time outside the top-5.

● Joey Logano will be back in the GameStop Toyota for next week’s season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Joey Logano Quotes

“I want to thank GameStop for coming on board with me this weekend and letting me race a car with Super Mario on it. New Super Mario Bros. Wii comes out Sunday and I’m going to pick up a copy because I had a lot of fun in that car this weekend. It was fast. We had a really good car today. It’s just a shame that we didn’t get a chance to finish where we should have. This was a car that was capable of winning the race.”

“We were pretty good at the beginning, but we had to work on it a little bit during the first half of the race. The track changed a lot when the sun went down, which is normal at Phoenix. I chose the outside line on one of the early restarts to see if it would work and it just didn’t work. We lost track position and then our car got really loose on one lap and I just ended up heating up the right rear tire too much and then got shuffled back. I just didn’t have the car right there at the end to be able to race those guys.”

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Phoenix International Raceway – November 14, 2009

- Reed Sorenson earned a third-place finish in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Phoenix International
Raceway.

- Mike Bliss (eighth) and Kyle Busch (ninth) also earned top-10 finishes for Toyota.

- Camry driver Denny Hamlin led twice for 91 laps before a spin on lap 158 relegated him to a 12th-place finish.

- Toyota drivers Trevor Bayne (14th), David Reutimann (18th), Michael Annett (20th), Jason Leffler (27th) and Chris Cook
(43rd) were also in the field.

- This season, Camry drivers have recorded 14 victories, 65 top-fives, 122 top-10 finishes, and have led 3,719 laps.

- Busch now leads the unofficial NNS point standings by 190 points over second-place Carl Edwards with one race remaining
this season. Once he takes the green flag next weekend, Busch will clinch the 2009 NNS driver’s championship.

Finishing Position: 3rd

How was your run today?

“It was pretty good. I thought we were pretty average all day and then that last run when the sun came down I thought we were
really good. Then we passed the 29 (Clint Bowyer) and then ran really good lap times there at the end so I think our last
adjustment plus the sun going down gave us a really good car. We were pretty happy with that. I thought we had a car close at
the end to contend with Carl (Edwards) but we could just never get up there.”

How much did you have to work on your race car today?

“We made a few adjustments. You only get a few pit stops on this series here so I think we made the right adjustments. We
were just kind of battling two different issues on two different ends of the corners so it’s kind of hard to fix that on race day. I
think we did a good job.”

Has your performance in the Nationwide Series boosted your spirits this year?

“It helps a little bit to get back in the car Sunday and if you don’t run good then you feel bad again. It’s good to run good on
Saturday’s in the few Nationwide races that I’ve been able to run with Braun this year, it’s been really fun. It definitely gives
you a little bit of confidence as a driver especially when times are going tough and things are going on with your other team on
the Cup side. It definitely gives you confidence as a driver.”

No. 11 RIDEMAKERZ Toyota Camry

MIKE BLISS, No. 11 Ridemakerz.com Toyota Camry, CJM Racing

Finishing Position: 8th

How was your car today?

“I really thought we’d run better. We were just tight all day and just could not get it to turn center off. We fought it all day.
Some decisions Paul (Wolfe, crew chief) and I talked about, we just left it too tight. We should have had the car a lot freer. But,
we finished eighth and I guess that’s good.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 NOS Energy Drink Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 9th

JASON RATCLIFF, crew chief, No. 18 NOS Energy Drink Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What happened early in the race to put you guys behind?

“We felt pretty good about our car yesterday in happy hour and didn’t make a lot of changes to it this morning. We just didn’t
start off right there. He (Kyle Busch) wasn’t happy with it and then I’m not sure what happened. We spun out there on our own
and the 29 (Clint Bowyer) ran into us a little bit or we collected the wall, whatever happened.

From that point on we were just
trying to survive. The guys did a good job on pit road. We just fell a little bit short of clinching it. I think all we have to do is
start next week and we’ll be the champions for 2009. We’re happy about that, we wish we would have had a better run today at
Phoenix. Clinching the title today would have been great. But, of course it would have been great to do it last week. It just
wasn’t meant to be today. All we have to do is start next week and we should have it.”

Denny Hamlin

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 20 GameStop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 12th

How was your race?

“We had a good car at the beginning and it looked like — I chose the outside line to see if it would work and it just didn’t work
and we lost track position and then our car got really loose on one lap and I just ended up heating up the right rear tire too much
and then got shuffled back. I just didn’t have the car right there at the end to be able to race those guys.”

What happened with you and Brad Keselowski?

“I got into him in the center of (turn) one and two. I don’t know if we got loose or something and then after that he (Brad
Keselowski) spun us. I can sit here and bash him for the next 20 seconds or so and give you all a bunch of sound bites and
everything, but I’m just happy I signed up for next week’s Nationwide race. In turn there’s a lot of guys that owe him, there’s a
lot of guys that have a lot of chips that they’re going to cash in and I’m just going to be the first at the pay window.”

Do you think that NASCAR needs to get involved with Brad Keselowski at this point?

“Nah, nah I’ll take care of him, it’s no biggie. I got him. He’ll learn the hard way. I run these races for fun and he’s (Brad
Keselowski) in it trying to get second in the points. He’s going to run Sunday’s and I’m racing for a Chase and he’s racing to
make sure he stays in his seat so I’m just going to do my job and if the opportunity arises I’m going to handle the situation the
way I should and the way anybody else would.”

Trevor Bayne

TREVOR BAYNE, No. 99 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 14th

How was your first race at Phoenix?

“We got to pass a lot of cars, that’s for sure. We started 37th after qualifying and going out first, that killed us. I love this race
track. It’s one of the most fun places I’ve been just because you get to drive it. It’s not riding around holding the steering wheel.
We had a pretty good car at the beginning. We followed the 18 (Kyle Busch) and the 29 (Clint Bowyer) all the way up through
the field. Once we got to about 12th we leveled off with everybody. We kept trying to adjust it and made some good
adjustments and we made some bad adjustments and unfortunately some bad adjustments were at the very end.

We had to try something, we were maintaining where we were at and we needed to try moving forward. We just lost too much rear grip and fell back a couple extra spots. I think if we would have left it alone we could have stayed in the top 10, but you know you have to try stuff. You have to keep moving forward because you know everyone else is going to be. It was a good run, I guess.
Good job in the pits. The car was halfway clean until about 20 (laps) to go and then they got in the right side of us in the wreck
in turn four. It was a decent day and we learned a lot.”

“We had a pretty decent car. We were good on long runs. We were 18th I think which would have been our best position so far during the race. We just have no luck. I think it broke the camshaft. It’s just a shame for the Aaron’s guys. This was one of the best race cars I’ve had and especially here in Phoenix it’s so tough it made my job a little easier. The guys work hard and they gave me a good race car today. It was fun. I got to race pretty good. It’s just a shame.”

No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge Charger

JUSTIN ALLGAIER IN THE No. 12 VERIZON WIRELESS DODGE WAS THE TOP RAYBESTOS ROOKIE IN TODAY’S RACE AT PHOENIX.

NOTES:

- Allgaier posted a 16th-place finish on the lead lap. He earned Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the second time in the last three races and the 11th time this season.

- UNOFFICIALLY Allgaier is sixth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship standings, 14 behind fifth-place Mike Bliss and 86 ahead of seventh-place Steve Wallace.

- UNOFFICIALLY Michael Annett is 10th in the standings, 41 points ahead of 11th-place Kenny Wallace and 44 ahead of 12th-place Tony Raines.

Justin Allgaier

ALLGAIER: YOU CLAWED YOUR WAY BACK FROM A LAP DOWN TO FINISH ON THE LEAD LAP.

“Yeah we did. It’s unfortunate we got ourselves back on the lead lap and then got taken out for no apparent reason. It’s just really frustrating when you drive so hard and you do everything you can do it’s just really frustrating. The Verizon Wireless guys did a great job all day long in and out of the pits. We worked really hard to try to make this car better. We just struggled. I don’t know what the deal was but we just struggled all day long and never really could get the car to handle well. I don’t know what it was.

It’s unfortunate. I think we lost fifth in points but I think we padded our Raybestos Rookie of the Year so that’s a definite plus. We’re going to give it 110 percent. We did that today and hopefully the points that we did lose today, I don’t know how many eight spots are worth in points, but the points that we did lose hopefully we can overcome those next weekend at Homestead and get fifth back.”

WHAT HAPPENED?

“I just went down in the corner and was going to let him have the bottom and got drove into. I don’t know why. I mean Jason [Leffler] and I have been good friends for a long time. It’s really a shame because stuff like that shouldn’t happen.”

Brendan Gaughan

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 5 HOUR ENERGY ES CHEVROLET:

“Today was embarrassing. This was one of the two most embarrassing runs we’ve had this year. We’ve been good, we’ve had medium runs, bad runs, good runs but this was as embarrassing as Richmond. I don’t know what else to say. We had a chance still to make a race out of the Raybestos Rookie gig and to come through under pressure like this is just embarrassing.”

WAS THE CAR TIGHT OR LOOSE?

“There wasn’t a thing to describe it. It was so tight all day and then we kept trying to loosen it up and all we did was bring the rear out of the track.”

Michael Annett

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 15 PILOT TRAVEL CENTERS/GERMAIN.COM TOYOTA:

“We’ve got to be better on the first run of the race. We keep putting ourself a lap down early and then you’re fighting back the whole time and just waiting for good luck. And then on the pit stops there we took off and a lug nut fell off and when I went to put it in reverse it broke off reverse and so then couldn’t get it back. It was stuck so we put on the lug nuts and that’s a penalty for pitting outside the box. They had already thrown the green by the time that piece I had broken off had fallen out of all the other gears and we were finally able to move again.

They threw the green and we went a lap down and at the point we were two down at the back. Still didn’t have the car where we wanted it. I think we had one piece of good luck all day by getting the wave around deal. That put us two laps down but at least we were racing with the 34 [Tony Raines]. We finished ahead of the 34 and the 96 [Michael McDowell] and Kenny [Wallace] just got 10 points on us. As long as we keep being right there with them and we go to Homestead and run like we normally do on the mile-and-a-halfs we’ll get 10th in points and that’s our goal right now.”

THIS IS A GOOD PLACE FOR YOU TO TURN THINGS AROUND.

“It is. I mean, these guys haven’t given up and as a driver I haven’t given up. We have had a tough couple of weeks but at the end of the day we’ve got to overcome that and really just try to do the best job that we possibly can. This has been a good track for us in the past. Last year I think we finished 11th in our first-ever run here and then finished eighth in the spring after starting in the back. I think we’ve just got to out and do what we know we can do here. We can’t get ahead of ourselves. I think that the minute that we try to get something that’s not there that’s when we have problems. I’d love to come in here with a hundred point advantage in fifth and a lot more points going into the Raybestos Rookie of the Year program but at the end of the day we’ve got what we’ve got. And we’ve got two races to overcome what we’ve put ourselves in and we’re going to do the best we can.”

ARE YOU SURPRISED AT YOUR SEASON AND THAT YOU’RE TOP-FIVE IN POINTS?

“Not surprised. I think the team has done an excellent job of getting me to there. I’m surprised that we’ve been able to run as bad the couple of weeks as we have and still maintain it, yes. But at the end of the day these guys are great at what they do and they’re building better and better race cars every week. I kind of wish we’d be up a little bit further than we are, I’ll be honest with you. We’re not and we’ve got two weeks to maintain where we’re at and I think we’re going to be really disappointed if we don’t at least maintain where we’re at. There’s not much we can do for improvement but at the end of the day we’ve got to maintain and get the best finish that we possibly can.”

Justin Allgaier

WHAT IS THE MAIN THING THAT YOU’VE LEARNED THIS SEASON?

“I think the one thing that I’ve learned is just patience. These cars drive so much different than what I’m used to. I think that’s been one part of it and also learning the tracks. I mean, that’s been a huge benefit during the course of this year and I think moving forward for next year I think that’s going to be a big help. There are so many racetracks that I spend the first half and hour to an hour of practice just trying to learn the place and some ‘em I never learned. I think going into next year I think we’ll be a lot better shape and I hope that stuff that we’ve been able to learn is going to be important going into next year. And I think that if that’s the case we can be right up front there, maybe not contending for the championship but at least be right there, second or third, hopefully knocking on the door and if they make mistakes we can be right there to pounce on ‘em.”

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THESE FINAL TWO RACES THIS SEASON?

“I’d like to sit on the pole and win both races [smiles]. Realistically, run up front, like we did in the middle part of the season, a good top-five, top-10 finish at both of these racetracks would be a big deal for us. We struggled a lot at Homestead last year, last fall, and really disappointed at how we finished so I think we’ve got a lot to gain going into Homestead. This place here [Phoenix], you know, we’ve had some good runs here, we want to keep that momentum going. But typically a driver that’s decent a Phoenix, as long as he can stay out of trouble, is decent at Phoenix every time we come back. Hopefully we can take what we learned in the spring make it better. We came from 43rd to eighth to hopefully we don’t have to come that far through the field and we can race those guys up in the top-five pretty much all night.”
