Andy Belmont Racing (ABR)

SALISBURY, North Carolina (February 6, 2012) – - Officials from ModSpace and Andy Belmont Racing (ABR) jointly announced today that Hunting Beach, California native Brandon Davis will join the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards tour in a second-car effort for ABR for the 2012 season-opener, the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (DIS) on Saturday, February 18, 2012.

The 26-year old Davis looks to strengthen an already impressive resume which includes championships in the World Challenge GT Series and most recently the 2011 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (NWAAS) on the West coast at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Calif.). On the strength of 11 wins in the NWAAS, Davis rightfully earned a shot in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West at Infineon (Calif.) Speedway.

Brandon Davis

Now, the first of 20 races on the ARCA Racing Series tour will undoubtedly bring a whole set of new challenges and surroundings for the former BFGoodrich Trans-Am Series competitor; but one that he will openly embrace.

“I’m extremely grateful to ModSpace and Andy Belmont Racing for the opportunity to drive at Daytona,” said Davis, who will drive the No. 2 ModSpace Ford Fusion to open the 60th season for the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA). “It’s Daytona, so automatically you want to go out there and do well. But, this is a whole new experience for me. I’m grasping this chance to make a positive name for myself and for everyone who’s making this possible for me.”

Andy Belmont, team principal at ABR is confident in his rookie’s abilities to get the job done at the “World Center of Racing.”

“It’s pretty clear, the kid has great credentials,” Belmont said. “We’re bringing Brandon a really good piece to the track and with his knack for success in a racecar; it should transfer over into the ARCA Racing Series with similar results. Daytona’s a monster in its own, so while we have goals, we just want him to go out there and do the best job he can and hopefully that will result in a positive finish.”

ModSpace, a leading provider of modular buildings, portable storage and services for temporary and permanent space needs will begin its third year as a sponsor for the veteran race team – but Daytona will resemble the first time that the Berwyn, Pennsylvania-based corporation has boasted a double-dose of racecar exposure at the 2.5-mile superspeedway.

“We are excited to have two cars with two great drivers paired up for this race, said William Mann, Vice President of Business Development for ModSpace. “Having a drafting partner is crucial on this track! Andy Belmont has put a lot of effort into fielding great cars and developing great drivers! We are excited to see both of these drivers represent ModSpace on this historic track.”

“ModSpace has been a great ambassador and sponsor to the Motorsports industry,” sounded Belmont. “We’re extremely thankful to have had their support the last two years and we’re hoping to build on a strong 2011 season into championship contenders this season with our full-time driver Mikey Kile. With Brandon now behind the wheel of our No. 2 Ford Fusion, our chances of getting ModSpace to victory lane again increase even more.”

Davis’s teammate, Mikey Kile will drive the team’s primary entry, the No. 1 ModSpace Ford Fusion in his 29th career ARCA start but first for ABR.

The Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona (80 laps / 200 miles) is the first of 20 events on the 2012 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 49th ARCA race held at Daytona is a three-day show. Practice begins Thursday, February 16 with a four hour practice session planned from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell is set for Friday, February 17 slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. A forty-five minute final practice session is etched in on Saturday, February 18th from 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. The event will take the green flag later that day shortly after 4:30 p.m. The race will be televised live on SPEED with additional race coverage including live timing and scoring through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com. All times are local. ARCA, celebrating its 60th season in 2012 is the preamble for the highly anticipated Budweiser Shootout for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) set to ignite under the lights later that night.

International Speedway

“Brandon McReynolds eyes first start at Daytona in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200″

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Two-time Daytona 500 winning crew chief Larry McReynolds, who serves as an analyst on the NASCAR broadcast team for FOX Sports, watched over his son Brandon as the annual three-day ARCA Racing Series test session kicked off on Friday at Daytona International Speedway.

Approximately 60 drivers are participating in the test session in advance of the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season opener on Saturday, Feb. 18, the kick-off event to the stock car portion of Speedweeks 2012.

The 20-year-old McReynolds is turning laps at the “World Center of Racing” in the No. 4 Chevrolet for Turner Motorsports as he prepares for his first start on the 31-degree high banks of Daytona International Speedway.

McReynolds participated in the ARCA test two years ago with Eddie Sharp Racing, but didn’t have plans at the time to compete at Daytona. This year’s test is different. He knows he’s preparing for his Daytona debut in the upcoming 80-lap, 200-mile event.

“It’s a little more serious,” McReynolds said. “We’re always looking for speed. I think you got some guys out here laying down some PR laps. That’s not what Turner Motorsports is about. We’re down here for a legit test to see how fast we can go with what we’re going to be racing. I think we got a good piece.”

In background of the test is Brandon’s father Larry McReynolds, who won the Daytona 500 serving as the crew chief for Davey Allison in 1992 and Dale Earnhardt in 1998.

“When we won the 500 here with Davey in 1992, Brandon was not even a year old,” Larry McReynolds said. “He was Davey’s godson. I’ve got pictures of him in Victory Lane wrapped up in a baby’s blanket. It’s pretty cool to see him make laps here.”

During this week’s test, McReynolds stays at a distance but is always ready to offer advice to his son.

“He’s been racing since he was seven,” McReynolds said. “I’ve always played a huge role in his racing whether it was paying the bills or running the race team. We did that for a number of years with our own stuff. But Steve Turner and Turner Motorsports are giving him a great opportunity with great people.

“It’s actually kind of neat just being down here and being dad and just listening on the radio. At the end of the day, I can look at him and tell him things that I heard or saw or this is something you might want to think about. I do not want to be a meddling dad. I want to be here and support him and the race team and enjoy watching his career grow.”

Brandon McReynolds is unsure of his 2012 plans but hopes it will be at Turner Motorsports.

“We’re still working on it. I hope to be over at Turner Motorsports. I really enjoy working with those guys. They’ve let me do some testing over the offseason and I ran Talladega with those guys. I feel like I’ve got a really good home over there. We’re working away on it. It takes sponsorship to make race cars go around these days and we’re working on it. We’ll see what happens.”

Alli Owens

Owens returns to the track as a mom: Daytona Beach native Alli Owens had a one of the biggest smiles in the garage during the first day of testing.

The 23-year-old Owens, who attempted to qualify for the February NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at DIS, sat out the majority of the 2011 season to have a baby. After giving birth to a daughter in October, Owens is ready to return to the track.

“It’s huge,” Owens said. “I just had a baby a couple of months ago. To be able to come back out here after everybody pretty much wrote me off . . . it seems like if you’re a mom, you’re done.”

During the test, Owens is driving the No. 1 Ford for Andy Belmont Racing and is planning on making her fourth career start in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200.

Her husband Paul Chodora, who works for a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team, is serving as her crew chief for the test.

Owens, with sponsorship from Baby Jock, is only scheduled to compete in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 but is exploring opportunities in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series for 2012.

“I was nervous,” Owens said of having a baby and then returning to racing. “It’s never been done before. You never see females who decide to have a family come back and be successful in the sport. We’re trying to do something that hasn’t been done before.

“To be back out here this year, it’s been even more special because I am a mom and now I’m getting the respect of being a parent and a driver.”

ARCA testing continues on Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A section of the Oldfield Grandstands will be open free to the public with access available through the lobby of the Daytona International Speedway ticket office.

Tickets for the 54th running of the Daytona 500 and other Speedweeks 2012 events are available online to www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.

The former South Daytona resident and new mother is scheduled to return to the ARCA Series and participate in today’s test session at Daytona International Speedway.

The 23-year-old driver missed most of the 2011 season to have a baby.

“It’s so weird when women get pregnant and people around them think, ‘OK, that’s her life now, as a mom,’ ” Owens said. “They forget we have careers.

“It’s a little unfair to think if a woman has a baby, that from that point forward, all she will be is a mother. Being a mom was part of the plan, and now I want to go back out and race.”

Alli and her husband, Paul Chodora, who live in Charlotte, were joined by Braelynn Chodora — 19 1/2 inches long; 6 pounds, 13 ounces — in October.

Now back to full strength, Owens — who has 32 career ARCA starts — will be driving Andy Belmont’s No. 1 Ford.

“The last time I was in a racecar was my attempt to make the Truck (Series) race at Daytona in February,” Owens said.

Owens raised the money to race with a grass-roots program, but she failed to qualify for the 100-lap season-opening event.

When Owens started sending out feelers for a 2012 NASCAR or ARCA ride, Belmont was one of the first people on the phone with the new mother.

The session will mark Owens’ first time on a race track since February 2011.

Owens decided to take the 2011 season off to get married and start a family. In October she gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Braelynn and is anxious to get back in the seat of a competitive race car for 2012.

“I can’t put into words how great it feels to know that I’ll be testing at Daytona,” Owens said. “I’ve been so anxious to return to the track. Now that I’m settled in with being a wife and mother, it’s time for me to go racing again. I’m so excited to be a mom and get back in the driver’s seat.

“While I was away, I did everything I possibly could to prepare for my return. I’ve been exercising and working on my fitness so that I’ll be at the top of my game. I’ve been calling on companies and organizations to secure a sponsorship. Hopefully it will all come together.”

Owens’ plans beyond Daytona are not complete. She is still seeking sponsorship support in hopes of running the 2012 season in one of racing’s top national touring series. Owens anticipates that motherhood will be appealing to potential sponsors and that it will open new doors to the sport.

“I know there are a lot of companies out there that have wanted to get involved in racing, but didn’t have the right fit for a driver. Now they have the right outlet,” Owens said. “There are so many companies that are relevant to women, especially mothers, that would be perfect for the sport. This is a great opportunity for them to share their brand with a whole new audience.”

One corporation, M4M Ventures has aligned with Owens for Daytona with their brand BABY JOCK. BABY JOCK is a brand new company that will soon debut a line of products. Product lines will include everything from diapers, formula, baby food, and gear. BABY JOCK will be the all-encompassing branding statement of healthy active babies and kids. BABY JOCK is starting the movement to end childhood obesity. This is the launching pad for the BABY JOCK brand as they seek corporate partnership. Team BABY JOCK will bring families back to the grandstands of NASCAR.

“As a new mother, I’m so proud to carry the BABY JOCK sponsorship at Daytona,” Owens said. “Obviously I want my daughter to grow up to be active and healthy, so I’m thrilled to align with a company that has similar ideals.”

Parent company M4M Ventures Corp. is launching another company, Going Fit, with the sponsorship of Owens and the race team. Going Fit provides the average consumer with motivational products and services; putting the power of change in their hands with product lines that promote a healthy and active way of life.

Owens has three partial seasons of ARCA competition under her belt, having driven for Mario Gosselin in 2008, D’Hondt Motorsports in 2009, and Venturini Motorsports in 2010. In 2009 Owens captured the outside pole at Daytona International Speedway for the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200.

Kile, a Westlake, La.-native, began his career racing go-karts at local racetracks throughout his home state of Louisiana. He progressed through the Modifieds and late-models ranks, capturing numerous wins and awards along the way.

He made his NASCAR debut in 2009, driving a partial schedule in the Camping World Series for Brad Keselowski Racing. In six starts he accumulated three top-15 finishes.

“I had a good year in 2010, but I believe that we have the pieces in place to compete for the 2012 ARCA championship”, stated Kile. “Andy has done a great job in putting together a quality team and I am really looking forward to the season opener in Daytona”.

Andy Belmont Racing is coming off a strong year in 2011 winning on the dirt at Springfield, finishing fifth in ARCA points as well as capturing the prestigious Bill France 4 Crown Award. The Langhorne PA native believes that Mikey Kile may be the last piece to the championship puzzle.

“This is definitely an exciting time for ABR”, added Andy Belmont. “I have watched Mikey progress each season as a driver and am confident that we will be in the hunt all year. I am also proud that he will be driving our No.14 Ford this season. The tradition of that number goes back to my days as a Modified driver in Pennsylvania”.

The series released its 2012 television schedule, among other announcements.

Officials from ARCA and SPEED jointly announced the 2012 SPEED television schedule for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, comprised of 10 events to be televised live or same-day delayed on the popular network. SPEED in-race analyst Phil Parsons, host for this evening’s banquet, was on hand for the announcement.

SPEED will kick off its live flag-to-flag ARCA coverage at Daytona International Speedway with the 49th running of the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at 4 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, February 18.

In addition to Daytona, other events scheduled for live and/or same-day coverage in 2012 include Talladega Superspeedway on May 4, Toledo Speedway on May 20, events at Pocono Raceway on June 9 and August 4, Michigan International Speedway on June 15, Iowa Speedway on July 13, Chicagoland Speedway on July 21, and the season finale at Kansas Speedway on October 19. The late July race at Lucas Oil Raceway will also be televised; series and track officials have not yet determined the race’s exact date.

ARCA’s relationship with SPEED dates back to April 20, 1997, when the network (then Speedvision) covered the ARCA race at Salem (Ind.) Speedway. Since then, SPEED has aired a total of 188 ARCA races, making the 2012 opener at Daytona the 189th.

Before the SPEED announcement, Drager opened the afternoon by providing a short “state of ARCA” address, recognizing series presenting sponsor Menards, and unveiling the logo for ARCA’s 60th Anniversary Season celebration. Drager then introduced Rick Crawford of Mobile International Speedway, which will host the ARCA Racing Series for the first time on March 10. Crawford announced that infield camping for ARCA’s first visit to Mobile has already sold out.

Also speaking was Bob Sargent of Track Enterprises; Sargent’s company will promote the June 2 race at Elko Speedway.

The press conference also served as a weekend welcome to series champion Ty Dillon, who spoke briefly after Drager.

Key series marketing partners and Menards vendor program participants Ansell, Herr’s, and Messina Wildlife Management were recognized. Several teams, including ThorSport Racing, Team BCR Racing, Andy Belmont Racing, and Venturini Motorsports, took the podium to announce new drivers and sponsors for 2012.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards featured 19 events at 16 tracks on its 2011 schedule. The series has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 28 states since its inception. In 2011, the series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, visiting tracks ranging from 0.4 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course.

The 2012 ARCA Racing Series schedule is currently available at ARCARacing.com.

Founded by John Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Closing in on completing its sixth decade after hundreds of thousands of miles of racing, ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in two professional touring series and local weekly events.

The No. 1 ModSpace Ford started third for the 200-lap race; however the first 20 laps were run under caution because the track was damp. When the green flag waved, the Supply, N.C., native moved into second, but on Lap 27 McCumbee fell back to third. Shortly after, McCumbee encountered lapped traffic, but was able to navigate around it.

Maintaining his position in the lead pack, McCumbee made contact with another competitor on the .555-mile oval that resulted in damage to the No. 1 car’s left front fender and eventually cut the tire. McCumbee had to pit under green and lost a few laps to the race leader.

“We had a great car at Salem,” McCumbee said. “I knew we had damage to the fender, but I didn’t think it was too severe. However, it ultimately led to the tire issue and a green flag pit stop.”

Despite the setback, McCumbee continued to pick up positions and finished ninth in the 111-mile event.

“I’m happy with our top-10 finish,” continued McCumbee. “We had a car that was capable of winning, but I think we proved that our ModSpace Fords are going to be fast this year. We know we have what it takes to win.”

Andy Belmont, Team Manager for Andy Belmont Racing (ABR), led the No. 1 ModSpace Ford’s effort and is pleased with the outcome.

“We were able to come out of this with a pretty good finish,” said Belmont. “Our strategy was to take care of the car and log laps early, then race hard at the end. Even though we had an unscheduled pit stop, Chad managed to pick up nine positions. It shows the team’s determination.”

The next event on the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule for McCumbee and the No. 1 ModSpace Ford team is Sunday, May 15, at Toledo Speedway. The race starts at 2 p.m. with live timing and scoring coverage provided by ARCA Nation at ARCARacing.com.

(February 7, 2011) – While John Ferrier may not be a familiar name among ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards regulars, it is sure to be one to watch when the ARCA Racing Series pulls into Daytona International Speedway for the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 on Saturday, February 12. Paired with a veteran driver and team owner in Andy Belmont along with well-accomplished teammate Chad McCumbee, Ferrier has high expectations for a strong run on Daytona’s infamous high-banks.

“My expectations are very high,” said Ferrier. “I have a very competitive race car with Roush/Yates power. It has had a lot of really good aero work done to it by AJ Johnson. He built a brand new body for us, specifically for Daytona, so my expectations are high. My goal is to come out of Daytona with a top-10 finish.”

Ferrier, a Middletown, N.Y. native, may only have three previous ARCA Racing Series starts (Daytona, Talladega, Pocono), but he has over 25 years of experience behind the wheel of a racecar. The dirt-track driver got his start as a motocross racer in 1985 and hasn’t looked back since. Racing modifieds in the northeast, his connection with team owner Andy Belmont runs much deeper than a driver/owner connection.

“Both Andy and I are from up around this area (N.Y.),” explained Ferrier. “He has a lot of dirt modified experience as well as I do, and we know a lot of the same people from racing up here in the Northeast. Andy did race modifieds up here as well. We never competed against each other, when he was racing up here I was still racing motocross, but that is how I ended up getting his name and getting tied in with him. I know Andy has a top-notch team and organization so I’m really looking forward to getting down to Daytona.”

One would think Daytona’s 2.5-mile oval would be a huge challenge for a driver used to slinging dirt on the short tracks, but Ferrier proved otherwise in his first and only Daytona start in 2009. Ferrier competed in the top-10 for much of the race, and was looking to stage a late climb to the top-five when an oil pump failed with only nine laps to go. Ferrier ultimately finished 17th, but that run only fueled his fire for a top finish this year at one of the most prolific tracks in all of motorsports.

“Daytona is the Superbowl of stock car racing, it always is,” said the N.Y. native. “If you ask any driver if they can start anywhere it would definitely be Daytona, there is no question about it. Speedweeks at Daytona is a huge event worldwide, so for me to take part in that, it really means something.”

When the checkered flag falls on Saturday’s ARCA Racing Series season-opener, Ferrier’s biggest goal is to see an ABR car cross the finish line first.

“My commitment to Andy Belmont Racing is to have an ABR car finish first. If I can help Chad (McCumbee) get there I absolutely will, and I’m sure he feels the same way. Ultimately the goal is to put ABR in the winner’s circle.”

John Ferrier and the No. 14 CGS Imaging Ford Fast Facts:

Ferrier at Daytona: Ferrier made one previous start at Daytona International Speedway in 2009 driving for Randy Baker. After a late change was made to his car after qualifying, Ferrier was forced to start from the 39th position. Ferrier raced his way into the top-10, where he remained until an oil line broke forcing him to retire from the race 11 laps shy of the finish. Ferrier came home with a 17th-place finish in his first ARCA Racing Series start.

Did You Know?: Ferrier will have a strong Stewart / Haas racing connection in Daytona. Crew Chief Mark Gibson is the brother of Tony Gibson who is Ryan Newman’s Crew Chief. Ferrier will also have Tony Stewart’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series spotter Bob Jeffery calling the shots from high above Daytona International Speedway.

This Week’s Ford: John Ferrier will be piloting chassis No. RK271/704 at Daytona International Speedway. This is a former Roush Racing car that was originally driven by Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and was used as a backup car for ABR in 2010.

Autographs: Fans will have the chance to meet John Ferrier and all of their favorite ARCA Racing Series drivers on Saturday, February 12 from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. EST during an all-access open garage.

Ferrier on racing with teammate Chad McCumbee:

“Having Chad McCumbee as a teammate at Daytona is really exciting and will definitely be an advantage. I mean Chad is a NASCAR Driver, he had Sprint Cup starts, and that is a positive thing that is going to help me a ton. I have a good idea that when we get down to Daytona Andy (Belmont) will really set us down as a team and have us come up with a strategy, because the way the pavement is down there it’s not going to be a surprise if you get shuffled all the way around the track. There is nobody I would rather work with in the draft than a guy like Chad who has a lot of experience.”

Ferrier on racing on Daytona’s new pavement:

“I tested on the new pavement during the ARCA test in January, and I loved it. It is very similar to Talladega. There’s just a bump between turns three and four, and I honestly wouldn’t even call it a bump. I would call it more of an imperfection in the pavement. I love it. I think it’s great. The old pavement could definitely be a handful when you were running in a pack of cars. This should definitely tighten things up, it will be pretty exciting.”

A simple business call in 1998 to Continental Fire & Safety Owner Greg Gore quickly developed into what is becoming one of the longest standing team sponsorship alignments in the ARCA Racing Series today.

“I first began talking to Greg (Gore) in 1998 when I purchased some fire extinguishers,” said ABR Team Manager Andy Belmont. “I noticed that they were affiliated with a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team and I was very impressed with their business. A simple call to purchase some equipment has turned into a great relationship. I’m very honored to have Continental Fire & Safety back for another season.”

Returning to pilot the No. 1 ModSpace/Construct Corps entry will be veteran ARCA driver Chad McCumbee.

“ModSpace is very excited to partner with Andy Belmont Racing (ABR) for the 2011 race season,” says William Mann, director of ModSpace Motorsports. “Andy Belmont Racing has been a strong partner for our organization and we see a lot of synergy with the team. (October 13, 2010) - At the beginning of the 2010 ARCA Series season driver Tom Hessert set ambitious, but attainable goals. The 24-year-old aspired to lead laps, visit victory lane and contend for the championship. He achieved those feats with flying colors and is now positioned to take the next step in his career.

This year marked Hessert’s third season of ARCA competition. The Cherry Hill, N.J., native has shown a steady progression since entering the series full time in 2008. In his rookie year, Hessert drove to one top-five and seven top-10 finishes behind the wheel of Andy Belmont’s Ford. He closed out the season eighth in the final point standings. In 2009, Hessert claimed one top-five and eight top-10s. He also earned his first ARCA Series pole. His efforts brought him another eighth-place standing in the championship points.

It was a breakout year for Hessert in 2010. Hessert paired with Cunningham Motorsports to drive the No. 77 Cherry Hill Motorsports Dodge. He pedaled his way to 10 top-fives and 15 top-10s. His average finish in the ARCA Series rose from 15.3 to 7.9 and he completed 99.7% of possible laps in the 20-event schedule.

Hessert’s Dodge became a familiar sight at the front of the racing field. He led an impressive 388 laps throughout the season, more than any other competitor in 2010. Of all the laps Hessert led, the most important one was the last lap at Iowa Speedway, bringing him his first ARCA Series win.

“It’s been an awesome season,” Hessert said. “When we began this year, our goals were to lead laps, win a race and contend for the championship. We can check all of those off our list. I’m really proud of what our team accomplished. Everyone on the team gave it 100% and I can’t thank them enough.”

Hessert’s performance initiated a fierce three-way battle for the 2010 ARCA Series championship with Patrick Sheltra and Craig Goess. Their fight went down to the wire, with all three drivers separated by 20 points before the final event at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway. During the event Hessert solidified a third-place finish in the championship standings.

“The talent level is at an all-time high in the ARCA Series,” continued Hessert. “There are so many good drivers and teams. There are several teams that are capable of winning each and every week. That makes what we accomplished pretty special. To finish third in the points, to lead all the laps we did and to win a race in such a competitive series is something for our team to be proud of. This year’s championship wasn’t settled until the last lap at Rockingham. We had a few breaks that didn’t go our way and that’s what kept us from winning the title. Overall, though, it’s been a phenomenal year.”

Hessert’s performance in 2010 already has him looking forward to what’s ahead.

“I don’t have my plans solidified for next season, but I’m ready to race. I’d love to run some NASCAR races, maybe some Truck Series or Nationwide Series events, along with some ARCA races. I want to continue racing with the best and developing as a driver.”

However, Hessert’s No. 77 Cunningham Motorsports team, and the No. 22 Dodge of teammate and race winner Dakoda Armstrong, each failed the minimum roof height requirement – per ARCA’s 2010 Official Rule Book – in the post-race technical inspection.

Historically, a post-race inspection failure for the minimum roof height has resulted in the loss of 25 driver and 25 owner points, as well as a $1500 penalty. Per procedure, ARCA announces sanctions and publishes official race results and points on the Tuesday after the race event.

Hessert, whose third-place finish tied him with Patrick Sheltra (No. 60 PatrickSheltra.com / Ferguson Pipe Dodge) for the series lead in top-five finishes with 10, unofficially moved to the top of the ARCA Racing Series standings with a 10-point advantage over Sheltra.

Per ARCA’s procedural policy, the penalties expected to be announced Tuesday morning would place Sheltra back atop the standings with 4290 points, 15 ahead of Hessert. Sheltra’s sixth-place finish Saturday was his series-leading 15th top-10 result of 2010.

Craig Goess (No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. Toyota) would remain third with 4270, to be followed by Frank Kimmel (No. 44 Ansell/ Menards Ford) in fourth with 4135. Justin Marks (No. 32 Construct Corps Dodge) is expected to improve one position ahead of Armstrong, to fifth at 4125 points.

The sanction would not directly affect Armstrong’s second career win, which makes him the third driver this season with multiple wins in the series. Armstrong extended his lead over Nick Igdalsky (No. 14 ModSpace / American Red Cross Disaster Relief Ford) in the ARCA RE/MAX Rookie of the Year standings by two, 536-492.

Two races remain in the 2010 ARCA Racing Series season.

Goess Recovering after Pain: Craig Goess was treated and released from an Indiana hospital early Sunday morning after being transported from Salem Speedway following the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic 200. Goess had cited back pain after a 13th-place finish.

The 29-year-old Eddie Sharp Racing driver entered the weekend in second place in the series point standings, but became the first driver this season to win the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell three times, thus earning 15 bonus points, the first starting position in Saturday’s race, and a lead of 10 points over Patrick Sheltra.

Goess led the first 34 laps before a broken throttle cable sent him off the track. Goess returned to competition 12 laps off the pace, and was able to gain just a single lap through the remainder of the event. Goess is third in the series standings with two events remaining, 20 points from Sheltra’s lead and five behind Hessert for second.

Clean Racing Continues: Three caution periods slowed the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic for 19 laps; both numbers are modern era record lows at the track. Analysis of the previous 21 ARCA Racing Series races at Salem Speedway dating back to 2000 shows an average of 9.62 caution periods per event.

The race – completed in one hour and 16 minutes – averaged a speed of 87.630 mph, which tops driver Les Snow’s previous race record of 85.913 mph in 1968.

The ARCA Racing Series has featured five races this season with three caution periods or fewer, and has averaged just 5.39 caution periods per race through 18 races, down from 8.67 in 2008 and 7.67 in 2009.

Cunningham Teams Take Lap Awards: Tom Hessert led 74 laps in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic 200, including the 100th, to win the $500 Messina Halfway Leader Award. Hessert’s lap haul helped him extend his lead in the year-long Aaron’s Lap Leader Award standings. The 24-year-old has led in a series-high eight races for a total of 387 laps, 150 more than Chris Buescher, the closest award contender.

Dakoda Armstrong led the final 88 laps in his second victory of the season to win the $500 Aaron’s Lap Leader Award. Armstrong last led the ARCA Racing Series field at Berlin (Mich.) Raceway last month.

Season High for Silas; Other Achievements: Bryan Silas (No. 11 Rockingham Speedway/Palm Beach Grading Ford) drove Saturday to a seventh-place finish, his best result since finishing in the same position at Toledo Speedway last September. Silas has seven top-10 finishes in 2010.

Joey Coulter (No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation/Rip It Energy Fuel/Tempest Cycles Chevrolet) finished second for the fourth time this season and the sixth time in his 39-race career.

Mikey Kile (fourth, No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Toyota) and Justin Marks (fifth) secured top-five finishes for the sixth and seventh times this season, respectively.

Chad McCumbee (No. 1 ModSpace / American Red Cross Disaster Relief Ford) finished in eighth place for the third consecutive week, marking his fifth top-10 finish of 2010.

Part-time driver Levi Youster (No. 23 Hixson Construction Chevrolet) finished 15th for the second consecutive week to match his career high.

Kansas Lottery 150 Next: The ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards visits the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway on Thursday, September 30 for the 19th of 20 races this season. The 100-lap, 150-mile Kansas Lottery 150 airs live on SPEED at 4 p.m. Central (5 p.m. Eastern), with live timing and scoring and live audio coverage presented by ARCA Nation and the ARCA Racing Network at ARCARacing.com.

Founded by John Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Last month the ARCA series had their first dirt track event at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield IL. Chad finished 13th in that event.

“I’m really excited about going to DuQuoin, we ran really well at Springfield and I know the team and I can improve on that finish,” commented McCumbee on this week’s upcoming race. DuQuoin known as “the magic mile” is a one mile clay oval similar to Springfield and many of the other great fairgrounds tracks around the country. Chad may not be a regular dirt racer but in his ARCA dirt appearances he has posted finishes of 5th and 19th in 2005. “We are looking for just a little bit of luck at this point. We have been extremely fast the last half dozen events, we just haven’t had the finishes. We want to close the deal on this one” states McCumbee.

Chad will race his ModSpace/Red Cross Disaster relief Ford at The Southern Illinois 100, which will take place on Monday September 6th. The race will consist of 100 laps/ 100 miles and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. local time.
