The “Kidd” from Syracuse, New York is also preparing to take the next step on his career path with one of the most renowned teams in ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards history.
Kidd will make his ARCA Series debut this Saturday at Berlin Raceway in Bobby Gerhart Racing’s (BGR) marquis machine – the 5 car.
“I’ve been here all week (at BGR’s shop in Lebanon, Pa.) with them,” said Kidd. “They’ve been doing most of the work. I’m just asking questions, trying to give some input into what the car needs…….picking Bobby and Billy’s brain mostly.”
Despite his youthfulness, Kidd is fully aware of the opportunity in front of him.
“It’s awesome. Not many people get this opportunity, especially from my area. To be 18, with this opportunity with Bobby (Gerhart) is incredible. Billy (Gerhart) told me that Bobby doesn’t let too many people drive the 5. Maybe they see something in me.”
Kidd is also realistic about the outcome in Saturday night’s Berlin ARCA 200.
“I just want to bring it home in one piece on the lead lap. A top-10 would be great. I think that’s a realistic goal. Winning the race may be unrealistic, but it’d sure be incredible.
“I’ve watch a lot of videos on Berlin on YouTube. It’s actually very similar to Adirondack. It’s got the circle shape to it, which I’m kind of used to. You’re always turning – should be fun.”
In addition to his ‘online’ training, Kidd also tested the No. 5 BGR Chevrolet at Sundance Speedway in Pennsylvania. It was the first time he drove a 3,400-lb stock car.
The ARCA cars are quite a bit heavier than the Late Model. They skate more going in (the corners), but otherwise, I think they’re actually more stable because they weigh more. I think I gained a good feel for the car. We turned some pretty fast laps over there.”
