· Kyle Busch led three times for 116 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in tonight’s Food City 250. Busch has now led 21 times in 19 races for a total of 1,492 laps. In 38 short track races he has led 1990 laps in 38 short track races and a grand total of 8,729 laps in 193 career starts.

· DID YOU KNOW? Busch has led at least one lap in 19 of 20 starts this season.

· Busch captured WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors for the 12th time this season. UNOFFICIALLY he leads Joey Logano by nine races (12-3) in the overall WIX Filters Lap Leader standings.

WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER AWARD STANDINGS

Kyle Busch 12

Joey Logano 3

Kevin Harvick 2

Tony Stewart 1

Denny Hamlin 1

Brad Coleman 1

Reed Sorenson 1

Trevor Bayne 1

Marcos Ambrose 1

Jason Leffler 1

· Busch won tonight’s race, edging out second-place Jason Leffler by .798 seconds. The victory was his 10th of the 2010 season and his second in 13 races at Bristol. He claimed the 40th victory of his NASCAR Nationwide Series career.

We had trouble in practice trying to get the car exactly the way I wanted it. We were close but Jason [Ratcliff, crew chief] worked really hard with the guys to try to make sure that we had a winning car here tonight. We were swinging things at it all day but you know we came up with a good combination there for the race.

It was a little too loose all night but I kept trying to move my line around and try to find something that would work for me and I was able to do that a little bit. Good pit stop and just being able to keep our track position all night really helped us so we didn’t have to pass too much and then just getting up there at the end and being able to set sail when it mattered most and get to victory lane.”

DO YOU EXPECT THIS WILL JUST BE THE WAY YOU AND BRAD KESELOWSKI RACE EACH OTHER?

“Isn’t this the way Brad races everybody? I mean, really, it’s just the way it is. That’s why he got spun out. I pulled a slide job on ‘em off of Turn 2 and maybe I wasn’t clear but I was at one point and all he had to do was turn down to the bottom and try to do a crossover Earnhardt move and pass me in the next corner or even try to pull a slide job on me and he didn’t do it. He just drove in the back of me and put me in the fence. And it’s Brad Keselowski so I wasn’t too happy about it so I was going to go back after him and spin him out and I did. Won the race. Good for me.”

KESELOWSKI SAID THAT BECAUSE HE’S ON PROBATION PEOPLE CAN INTENTIONALLY WRECK HIM WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT PAYBACK. IS THAT ACCURATE?

“I think Brad Keselowski should look himself in the mirror and say I’ve brought this on myself.”

FOR THE DOVER 200

NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES RACE

AT DOVER INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY, MAY 13, 2010,

Justin Lofton posted the eighth-best overall speed in today’s first practice session at Dover, best of any Raybestos Rookie. The rest of the class: Austin Dillon (18th), Brett Butler (20th) and Jennifer Jo Cobb (30th).

Justin Lofton

JUSTIN LOFTON, No. 7 VISITPIT.COM TOYOTA: IS YOUR TRUCK THAT GOOD?

“I think actually the truck is a little bit better. It’s taking the driver getting used to it. I don’t know if we could have pulled off a 0 like Kyle did in first practice but I definitely think we could have easily pulled off a low 60. This is actually the first truck that the guys got to build from scratch, Mark Rette [crew chief] and my crew. It goes back to last year and the success that we had in the ARCA car moving into the Camping World Truck Series and just really excited to be driving one of Mark’s trucks. It’s hooked up and we’re ready to go. It’s cool to be back at a handling racetrack. We’re really good at those, one where a driver really plays a key. Just looking forward to a solid weekend.”

HAVE YOU BEEN HERE BEFORE?

“I’ve never seen Dover in person until today [smiles]. It was pretty cool. I walked around and talked to Ron Hornaday, Todd Bodine, Matt Crafton [and] Johnny Benson. I talked to all of those guys and pretty much every one of ‘em told me the same thing with different variations and I kind of took it all, blended it all together and went out there and tried to hold it as close to wide-open as you can and it’s paying off for us.”

COMMENT ON THE ENTRANCE TO THE CORNERS HERE.

“It happens so fast that you really don’t know unless you’re sitting there thinking about it, kind of waiting for it. Everything is happening so fast at this track that you’re thinking about exit when you’re entering so you’re really just like ‘Okay, I don’t care what the truck does I just need to get it pointed at this angle. I need it to be here at this point so I can get off the corner so I don’t smack the wall.’ That’s the big key here. You can really tear up a race truck because there’s no room.”

WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD RACE FOR YOU?

“A win [laughs]. To be honest a win would be awesome. I definitely think we have a shot at it but a solid top-five would get all the guys spirits back up. We’ve been struggling the first couple of races this year and just get everyone’s spirits up going into this little summer stretch.”

NOTES:

- Buescher scored an 12th-place finish and claimed Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the second time this season.

- UNOFFICIALLY Brian Scott leads Buescher by five points (92-87) in the Raybestos Rookie standings.

BUESCHER: “We had pretty decent track position. We were like 13th when the second caution came out. We were overheating and had to get some tape off the nose. We had to pit out of sequence and put us back like 31st. We drove back up to 15th on that real long green flag run. The car drove awesome all night. It was just a little free the second half. We rallied back without cautions and got more spots whenever the cautions come out and got spots on pit road every time. I like short track racing, especially at nighttime.”

DID YOU PIT DURING THAT LAST CAUTION?

“We pitted but about two laps before that 98 hit the wall my radio went dead and just had a real loud buzzing. The caution came out and I started trying to unhook the battery and unhook the wire from one radio and hook it up to the other one and turn it on and right when I finally got it plugged in they said ‘If you can hear us, come to pit road.’ So I turned down pit road and I was getting into Turn 3. We almost didn’t get that last pit stop in and it’s a good thing we did because the last two laps we picked up quite a few positions.”

YOUR CAR OWNER JAMES FINCH ANNOUNCED THIS WEEK THAT THIS TEAM IS FOR SALE. HOW IMPORTANT IS IT EVERYONE HERE TO RUN WELL?

“Well when people say they’re selling their team you don’t really know when or what that entails. We don’t have sponsorship and everybody’s still working really hard. Everything is coming to the racetrack as if we had a sponsor and we are planning on running all year. I haven’t heard anything otherwise. I’m going with the fact that we’re running all year and trying to get Raybestos Rookie of the Year.”

YOU ARE PLANNING TO RUN THE TRUCK RACE AT KANSAS THIS WEEKEND.

“I’ve got to go catch a plane to Kansas. It’ll be a late night getting to Kansas tonight. Hopefully we can run just as good or better in the truck race on Sunday.”

Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

RICKY STENHOUSE JR., ROUSH FENWAY RACING FORD:

“We definitely learned a lot. The first two runs we struggled. We were good on old tires. Everybody would start coming back to us. Mike Kelley [crew chief] and the CitiFinancial guys did an awesome job. The pit crew gained us spots on pit road. I learned a lot so we can come back here not so much of a rookie next time. There at the end we were clicking off really fast laps so that was a positive for us.”

ARE YOU AND MIKE KELLEY STARTING TO WORK BETTER TOGETHER?

“Oh definitely. Mike and I had a good relationship before he became my crew chief and that really helped start it. He likes to have fun but when it come down to it we’re both serious and I think that’s really working good for both of us.”

WHAT IS THE MAIN THING THAT YOU LEARNED TONIGHT THAT WILL HELP YOU WHEN YOU COME BACK HERE IN SEPTEMBER?

“I just know what the car needs during practice and I feel like it might have hurt us there a little bit not knowing exactly what it needs in practice. The race line is a little bit different than what I was running in practice from where we just ran. Those are two big things that’ll help.”

NEXTERA ENERGY RESOURCES 250

NASCAR CAMPING WORLD SERIES RACE

AT DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2010,

· Elliott Sadler led three times for 25 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in tonight’s NextEra Energy Resources 250. Sadler led a lap for the first time in four NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts.

Sadler posted a 20th-place finish in the race after being involved in an accident on lap 33.

· SADLER QUOTES: “Just wrong place at the wrong time. I can’t thank Kevin and Delana [Harvick] enough to give me this opportunity and it was fun. We had a great time. We were leading the race and running up front and just really riding at the time to try to make it to the end but just got caught up in somebody else’s stuff. I’m sure they’ll go get ‘em in Atlanta and I’ll be back in the truck at Charlotte so looking forward to that day to come.”

DO YOU LIKE RACING IN THIS SERIES?

“I did tonight for about 32 laps [smiles]. It was a lot of fun. I really like the way the motor feels here at Daytona, a lot of throttle response. They’ve got some drag and stuff in ‘em which makes ‘em fun to drive but I’ve learned more and more about ‘em each time I’ve raced ‘em. But every time I’ve been in a truck I’ve enjoyed it especially with the equipment KHI gave me tonight. It was a lot of fun.”

“It’s substantially tighter. I mean the farther back you go the worse it is. It is what it is and we’ll go to Homestead. It’s frustrating. I’m proud of everybody.”

ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO HOMESTEAD NEXT WEEK?

“I like it for various reasons. It’s the last race of the year [smiles]. It’s a cool racetrack. The banking there is a lot of fun. If you’re not working on the bottom you can move around substantially. The progressive banking or whatever they call it, the last time I ran there, it’s been a couple of years, but the last time I did I think I qualified in the top-15 or something like that in the Cup race and was running 12th and got wrecked. It’s a really good place, I love it there. We’ll just see what we got when we get there.”

YOU HAVE A COMFORTABLE LEAD IN THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE STANDINGS AND YOU HAVE AN EXCELLENT CHANCE TO FINISH TOP-FIVE IN POINTS.

“That’s good. That’d be huge for a team that was 22nd in points a year ago.”

Tayler Malsam

TAYLER MALSAM, No. 81 ONE-EIGHTY TOYOTA: YOU WERE RUNNING IN THE TOP-10 LATE IN THE RACE AND THEN WHAT HAPPENED?

“The 16 just got into us at the end of the race. I guess he doesn’t know how to use the brakes or something. I’m just real proud of the guys. They did an awesome job of giving me a truck. We thought we weren’t any good but we ended up being pretty good. We’ll just go get ‘em next weekend. He just got inside of us. I don’t want to say anything until I see the replay but I’ve had two people come up to me and say he ran over me.”

IT APPEARED THAT YOU MADE YOUR TRUCK BETTER THROUGHOUT THE RACE.

“We just worked hard all weekend and that’s all you can do. To get wrecked on the last lap stinks but that’s just how it goes sometimes.”

Ricky Carmichael

RICKY CARMICHAEL, No. 31 MONSTER ENERGY CHEVROLET:

We kept the fenders on it. We’d have liked to have finished a little better but we can’t demand too much. We threw this thing together and we’ll live to fight another day. We lost a lot of positions the first pit stop. I think if that wouldn’t have happened we would have never went a lap down and would have got a ten times better finish. That’s the way it goes. It’s racing. The truck was pretty good. I think I needed a little more front left downforce. That was my biggest problem. Like I said, I’m happy for the team and those guys worked hard. We had a decent qualifying round and we’ll get better.”

DID YOU MAKE THE TRUCK BETTER DURING THE RACE?

“When you compare how we unloaded to how we raced, ten times better. I’m happy for them. Like I said, we’ve got some work to do but we’ll start fresh next year with a whole bunch of new KHI equipment. I’m pretty optimistic about that, very happy for that day to come.”

ARE YOU LEARNING MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO MAKE THE TRUCK BETTER DURING THE RACE?

“Yeah absolutely. You know, just getting laps like last week and this weekend and being competitive, I’m learning a lot. So when I get to come back to these places next year I’ll have already been here so I expect out of myself to be a lot better, yes.”

James Buescher

JAMES BUESCHER, No. 10 INTERNATIONAL MAXXFORCE DIESEL FORD: WHAT HAPPENED?

“Just run out of room I guess. It’s just hard racing. TJ and I were running hard down the backstretch. I haven’t talked to TJ yet but, I don’t know, just got run all the way down to the grass and tried to hold on to it and give him all the room I could and couldn’t give him room so run up the track, hit him and it sent me spinning.

The MAXXFORCE truck was pretty good early on in the race and about halfway through the race the brakes started fading pretty bad and the truck had gotten really, really loose everywhere. We tried to adjust on it a little bit and I think we made it worse. I was wishing we had some more tires in the pits with 20 to go.”

DID YOU MAKE THE TRUCK BETTER DURING THE RACE?

“I think we made it worse. The first pit stop we didn’t adjust on it at all. It was pretty good at the beginning. Then the second run was a little longer on the tires and a little more fuel burned off so it affected the way the truck was handling and we were trying to set up for the end of the race by making it better at the end of a long run and made it worse in the beginning of the run so just got us way behind, I guess trying to hard to catch back up from getting behind. Just ran out of room, just hard racing. We’ll go to Homestead and finish this deal up.”

AT TALLADEGA SUPERSPEDWAY,

OCTOBER 31, 2009,

· Chris Jones led twice for three laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in the Mountain Dew 250. Jones claimed WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors for the first time this season. This is the first race that Jones has led in 22 career starts.

· Jones was credited with a 30th-place finish after he was sidelined by clutch failure.

· JONES QUOTES: YOU LED SOME LAPS TODAY.

“We’re happy to win the WIX award. It was real good in the draft. We got up there and led a few laps. We stayed out the first caution just to stay up there and lead and fell back but were able to come back and work our way up through there slowly, just kind of biding our time. We ended up losing the clutch. The caution that came out right before we come in I pushed the clutch in to downshift it and there was nothing there. It’s a shame. We had a good truck. I think we’d have had an easy top-10.”

AT TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY, OCTOBER 31, 2009,

JOHNNY SAUTER IN THE No. 13 FUN SAND/RODNEY ATKINS/CURB RECORDS CHEVROLET WAS THE TOP RAYBESTOS ROOKIE AT TALLADEGA.

NOTES:

Sauter scored an 11th-place finish and claimed top rookie honors for the 11th time this season.

Chris Jones was the only Raybestos Rookie to lead a lap in today’s race. Jones led the event twice for three laps. He also claimed WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors for the first time this season. This is the first race that Jones has led in 22 career starts.

YOU WERE RUNNING TOGETHER IN THE OUTSIDE LINE.

“I actually cost the 88 [Crafton] the race. If I wouldn’t have pulled up in front of him he probably could have won it. We just struggled from the word go to the end of the race. It’s just frustrating. I hate it but that’s the way it is.”

WHAT DID YOU SEE WHEN THE BIG WRECK HAPPENED IN TURN 3? IT LOOKED LIKE YOU WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PACK.

“Skinner doing what he pretty much usually does. Just racing, I mean, he’s trying to make it a hole and there wasn’t a hole and wrecked a bunch of good trucks and we got some damage out of it, too.”

DID THAT PRETTY MUCH END ANY HOPE OF GETTING INTO THE TOP-10?

“Oh yeah, we had flat tires and damage and green-white-checker, everybody is tore up back there and there’s no way you’re going to get where you need to go. Just glad to get the heck out of here.”

James Buescher

JAMES BUESCHER, No. 10 INTERNATIONAL MAXX FORCE DIESEL FORD:

“It was okay. We just really couldn’t draft good at all. We couldn’t do anything. I got turned around at end there for people not paying attention. I had already rolled out of the throttle and we had cleared the wreck just about and got right reared. There’s not much you can do about it but didn’t tear the truck up. We’ll go to Texas and see if we can finish out the year strong.”

HOW MUCH DID YOU LEARN TODAY THAT WILL HELP YOU WHEN YOU GET TO DAYTONA NEXT YEAR?

“I don’t think many people know what they’re doing [smiles]. Just didn’t really have a lot to draft with. Jumped up the lead of the outside one time and it just killed the whole outside groove. Could not lead, couldn’t suck up, couldn’t do anything with it. Just kind of rode the whole 98 laps and finished where we could finish. Not much we could do about it.”

Ricky Carmichael

RICKY CARMICHAEL, No. 4 MONSTER ENERGY CHEVROLET:

“Actually we got up front early, fell back and were back up front again. What do you do? I thought we were in a great position and I don’t know what happened. I haven’t seen the replay or anything but it’s just a shame for the team. They were working hard and we came back up and wanted that Raybestos Rookie of the Race and didn’t get it. I’m happy with how good we were running. We were in the top-10 at the end, couldn’t get through all the mess. I think I got clipped from the side. There were guys going every which way. I was like ‘Oh, I’m going to make it.’ Right when you say that it’s over but that’s the way it goes.”

J R FITZPATRICK, No. 29 EQUIPMENT EXPRESS CHEVROLET:

“It was fairly good. We for sure had a top-10. I made a couple mistakes but I was really trying to clear that 9 truck but overall a great day. I love being with the 29 team and hopefully I can get one more race. Like I said I think we could have had a top-10 there if I didn’t get involved in that last little wreck there but learned a lot, had a lot of fun and look forward to coming back.”

YOU SEEM TO BE PRETTY GOOD AT DRAFTING BECAUSE YOU STAYED IN THE LEAD DRAFT MOST OF THE DAY.

“I am not a hundred percent sure but I think this is the first time that the 29 team has had a truck at a superspeedway. It’s good research, good development that’ll be made. I think it needs to be better by itself, whether it’s power or body or whatever. We were a little down on that but everything else was great. As soon as I got in the draft I got to work it a little bit and we got back up near the front. It was a good run.”

Tayler Malsam

TAYLER MALSAM, No. 81 ONE-EIGHTY TOYOTA:

WHAT HAPPENED?

“We were trying to check-up and got hit from behind I think. We had an awesome One Eighty Tundra today. The guys did an awesome job and we were just kind of hanging in there waiting for those last five laps but that’s how Talladega usually goes.”

FOR THE MOST PART THE RACE APPEARED TO BE CALM.

“People were definitely being patient. It was starting to get rowdy those last five laps there and next thing you know we’re in the wall. What are you going to do?”

CHRIS JONES, No. 41 MIKE BERG TRUCKING DODGE:

YOU LED SOME LAPS TODAY.

“It was real good in the draft. We got up there and led a few laps. We stayed out the first caution just to stay up there and lead and fell back but was able to come back and work our way up through there slowly, just kind of biding our time. We ended up losing the clutch. The caution that came out right before we come in I pushed the clutch in to downshift it and there was nothing there. It’s a shame. We had a good truck. I think we’d have had an easy top-10.”

RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE CONTENDER QUALIFYING QUOTES

FOR THE MOUNTAIN DEW 250 NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES RACE

AT TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY, OCTOBER 30, 2009,

TAYLER MALSAM, No. 81 ONE-EIGHTY TOYOTA:

“That was a good lap. Doug [Wolcott, crew chief] and the guys did an awesome job giving me another fast truck like they do every weekend. Pretty much doesn’t really matter where you qualify here. We’re just lucky to be up front and get more TV time [smiles]. We’ll have a fun race tomorrow and this track is way smoother than Daytona and should be a lot easier than Daytona.”

HOW BIG OF A FACTOR WAS THE WIND?

“I guess we just got a good gust there. That’s what my guess is. I mean everyone is about the same when you go around here so hopefully everyone gets a bad guest after that.”

YOU DIDN’T PICK UP A LOT ON THAT SECOND LAP.

“We had a big headwind on the front straightaway. There was a big wind on that second lap compared to the first one and that’s what killed us. I think we could have picked up more if we had the same wind as the first lap but that’s just how it goes.”

DO YOU LIKE RESTRICTOR PLATE RACING?

“Yeah it’s a lot of fun. I wish I could figure it out more and wish I had more experience so I could know what to do in the draft. Like we did in Daytona we’re just going to stay in the bottom and hang on until those last 10 laps and then we’ll try to make a move and hopefully follow Skinner or Hornaday or Bodine up to the front because those guys know what they’re doing.”

DO YOU HAVE TROUBLE GETTING PEOPLE TO DRAFT WITH YOU?

“I’m sure you will with those rookie stripes tomorrow. I know today people got behind us but they’d also pull off. Hopefully they trust me enough and I’ve shown enough respect all year for them to stick with me at the end of the race but we’ll see what happens. It’s all whoever pulls the last straw type deal wins tomorrow. We saw at Daytona that if everyone went with Skinner and Colin and luckily we finished 10th. Hopefully this weekend someone picks me and takes someone else out of the mix. We’ll see how it goes. It should be a fun race.”

JOHNNY SAUTER, No. 13 FUN SAND/RODNEY ATKINS/CURB RECORDS CHEVROLET: ARE YOU HAPPY WITH THAT LAP?

“It doesn’t matter [smiles]. By lap two you’ll have forgotten completely where everybody started. Just have to stay out of trouble. That’s my biggest deal is just trying to stay out of trouble. We’ll see what the day brings us.”

YOU HAVE A LOT OF SUPERSPEEDWAY EXPERIENCE. DOES THAT MEAN PEOPLE ARE MORE WILLING TO WORK WITH YOU IN THE DRAFT?

“I don’t know, I doubt it. I don’t think that really matters. I think people know who’s got fast stuff and when you see somebody go blowing by you or whatever you tend to want to be with that truck. You’ve got to have speed. I’d like to think it works that way but I know I don’t care who’s driving what if I see them and they’re fast I’ll work with them. Strength in numbers, baby.”

YOU RAN UP FRONT AT DAYTONA BACK IN FEBRUARY. IS THIS THE SAME TRUCK?

“It’s the same truck we had at Daytona but unfortunately we wrecked it down there. I definitely think we can get out there and mix it up a little bit. Personally I don’t think we’re as fast as we want to be and we actually had pretty high expectations coming here but it’s all good. That’s why they call is racing: competition.”

JAMES BUESCHER, No. 10 INTERNATIONAL MAXX FORCE DIESEL FORD:

“We run a 53.80 in practice so I don’t know where we lost four and a half, five tenths at but we lost it somewhere. We were consistent. I think we ran a .24 and a.26 so you can get much more consistent than that. I guess we’ve got to see how this thing will draft in the race.”

DID YOU WORK ON DRAFTING IN PRACTICE TODAY?

“We really did half and half. We did three qualifying runs so I thought we’d qualify a lot better than this. We’ll see where we end up and hopefully the MAXXFORCE Ford will race better than it qualified.”

DO YOU LIKE THIS TYPE OF RACING?

“I do. It’s a lot of fun, different animal. It gets pretty intense. I enjoy it. It’s fun to get out there and draft and use the air to your advantage. I’d like to put it in victory lane. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow and hopefully we’ll wind up in victory lane.”

RICKY CARMICHAEL, No. 4 MONSTER ENERGY CHEVROLET:

“I was hoping for a high 53, a 53.9. Dang it, we’re never going to beat Hornaday in qualifying [laughs]. I started one behind him at Daytona so to start behind him in whatever row we end up in would be awesome. I’m happy. The truck drives great and I can’t wait. I want to be Raybestos Rookie of the Race.”

AT LEAST YOU HAVE SOME SEAT TIME IN THIS TYPE OF RACING.

“This one, the handling you don’t have to worry about like at Daytona. I like plate racing. I think it’s fun.”

WILL ANYONE DRAFT WITH YOU?

“Me? Heck no I’m a rookie. No one is going to draft with me and the position I’m in probably everybody thinks everything is given to me so they for sure are not going to follow me. I’m not scared to go with somebody. I’ll just be a push. If I can’t win I want my teammate Ron Hornaday to win.”

CHRIS JONES, No. 41 MIKE BERG TRUCKING DODGE:

“We tried a lot in practice on qualifying runs and run better in practice than we did here in qualifying but that’s all right. Once you get out there in the draft it really doesn’t matter. It’s all who you hook up with. It’ll be good experience for me. It’s my first time here so we’ll try to learn a lot and get out there and follow some good guys and try to learn as much as I can.”

HOW MUCH DRAFTING EXPERIENCE DO YOU HAVE?

“This is my first time at Talladega. I’ve run Michigan and you get a little bit there but at a track like this drafting is real big here.”

HAS ANYONE GIVEN YOU ADVICE ABOUT THE RACE?

“A little bit, just trying to stay out of trouble and just be patient. That’s the main thing that I’ve heard all weekend is just be patient, use your head and don’t go out there beating on a lot of people. Hopefully it’ll be good experience for Daytona and hopefully we’ll make it there in February.”

COMMENT ON QUALIFYING SO CLOSE TO DARKNESS.

“It wasn’t too bad. You could still see where you were going.”

TAYLER MALSAM WAS THE TOP RAYBESTOS ROOKIE IN TODASY’S QUALIFYING SESSION AT TALLADEGA.

NOTES:

- Malsam posted the eighth-best qualifying time and is the only Raybestos Rookie to start inside the top-10.

- Malsam posted a 10th-place finish at the other restrictor-plate race this season at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (race No. 1).

- Johnny Sauter leads Malsam by 36 points (212-176) in the overall Raybestos Rookie standings entering Saturday’s Mountain Dew 250.

NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES RACE

AT LOWE’S MOTOR SPEEDWAY, OCTOBER 16, 2009

· Kenny Wallace earned WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in tonight’s Dollar General 300. Wallace led once for one lap and grabbed the honor for the fourth time this season.

· Wallace has now led a total of 373 laps in 285 superspeedway starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

· Wallace posted a 21st-place finish and UNOFFICIALLY is 14th in the series championship standings.

· Mike Bliss leads Wallace by two races (6-4) in the overall WIX Filters Lap Leader standings.

· WALLACE QUOTES:

“I thought it was real respectable for our team. We work hard and we overachieve. We’ve just got to be a little bit faster. The car handled really good, just needed more speed. Needed a little bit of luck there. I pitted and then the caution comes out. When you’re in our position you try to keep the car packed with fuel and two laps later the caution flag fell. We got what we earned.”

YOU ARE WITH A SMALL TEAM. HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO COMPETE AT A HIGH DOWNFORCE TRACK LIKE LOWE’S MOTOR SPEEDWAY?

“What we need is about 500,000 more dollars for a little more horsepower. We can make the horsepower we just don’t have the money to make the horsepower. That’s really just what this deal is lacking to give us 10 positions. Over the last month Tony Raines has really been picking up some speed. That’s all we need.”

RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE CONTENDER QUOTES FOR THE

DOLLAR GENERAL 300 NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES RACE

AT LOWE’S MOTOR SPEEDWAY, OCTOBER 16, 2009,

ERIK DARNELL, No. 6 NORTHERN TOOL + EQUIPMENT FORD:

“I guess the 38 just lost it underneath us. Looked like he bottomed out and, you know, got loose and then come up the track and we were on the outside of him at that point. Just kind of a racing deal, kind of frustrating. I didn’t really know what happened. I knew the 38 was underneath us and then going into one I knew the 5 was down on the bottom and I thought he might have crowded him a little bit but after seeing the replay it looked like the 5 backed off, the 38 bottomed out and just kind of lost it and unfortunately we were on the outside of him. Just a tough break for our whole Northern Tool + Equipment team. The guys did a really good job in practice putting a good car underneath us.

We qualified well and I feel like with our first couple of pit stops we were heading in the right direction with adjustments and thought we were going to get a pretty good finish out of it but to get taken out that early, it stinks. It seemed to be pretty wild out there. Where we were at before that pit stop it was kind of calm down there back where we were at. We were just kind of single-file riding around biding out time. We knew we had to make some pit stops to make some adjustments. I guess some guys were racing pretty hard and we saw it when we got going with that double-file restart. These tires here are so hard. Unfortunately you get one of these things sideways out here it’s hard to save it and that’s what happened. We just got caught up in somebody else’s mess.”

JUSTIN ALLGAIER IN THE No. 12 VERIZON WIRELESS DODGE WAS THE TOP RAYBESTOS ROOKIE IN TONIGHT’S RACE AT LOWE’S MOTOR SPEEDWAY.

Allgaier scored a 12th-place finish and took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the tenth time this season and for the second time in the last three races.

ALLGAIER: YOU HAD AN UP AND DOWN NIGHT.

“We did. Unfortunately we had a tire go flat on us there with about three to go. We thought we could have held off the 29 and maybe finish ninth but just wasn’t meant to be. These Verizon Wireless guys did such a great job. We felt like we had a good car we just didn’t get exactly where we needed to be at there at the end. It’s a good points day. I think that probably gives us more points for the Raybestos Rookie of the Year battle and definitely moves us farther ahead of the 66 in points so that’s a big plus. Can’t say enough about these guys. They did a great job all day.”

YOU QUALIFIED THIRD AND RAN WELL IN THE RACE TONIGHT. IT SEEMED LIKE YOU WERE FAST ALL WEEKEND.

“I tell ya, the guys back at the shop have been working their butts off to try to build new racecars. The engine shop has been giving us great engines and that’s all the kind of stuff that you’ve got to do. We’ve got to build a better program for next year even more so and I think getting some information with a teammate next year is going to be a big help. We’ve got a lot of good things going on and I think we’ve learned a lot over the course of the last couple of races this season. I’m definitely glad that we’re able to do what we do.”

HAS YOUR INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM IMPROVED THIS SEASON?

“I think our program period is getting better but I think where you’re seeing it the most is the mile-and-a-half program just because this is the majority of our racetracks and I think you can prove it a little bit better here. I think we’re getting better everywhere and I’m looking forward to next week. I think we’ll have a good car going into Memphis then we get to go test the COT car I guess on Talladega weekend. There’s a lot going on. We’ve got an exciting couple of weeks coming up and I think that we’ve got a real shot at staying fifth in points and really going for the Raybestos Rookie of the Year battle.”

THE RACE TONIGHT LOOKED INTENSE AT TIMES WITH TWO AND THREE-WIDE RACING.

“It was really weird. You’d start after a restart and everybody seemed to get in line right away and nobody was really being all that crazy and then you’d run about 10, 15 laps and everybody just lost their brains. We caught a bunch of cars and passed some guys because they were getting two-wide. They were probably faster than we are but we caught ‘em and passed ‘em because they were trying to race each other.

Tonight was a big night for patience trying to do everything we could do and I think it turned out well in the long run. I mean you can’t ever predict a flat tire but it happens and just glad that we finished. The last two laps were scary as all get out trying to get down in the corner. To lose the spots that we did is disappointing but at the end of the day it is what it is and we’ll go on next week to Memphis.”

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 15 LUMBER LIQUIDATORS TOYOTA:

“We were really good on the first 10, 15 laps and then we needed a better car for the long runs. We had a bunch of them which normally here you think a caution is going to breed another caution and it really didn’t. I think there was a 30-lap run there at the end and a couple 50-lap runs. I think we’ll take this car to Texas and we know exactly what we need to do make it better for a long run which was something that we couldn’t take out of it on a pit stop. We did the best with what we had and we’ll go on and get a top-10 hopefully get a Raybestos Rookie of the Race next weekend.”

HAVE YOU SEEN YOUR INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM GETTING BETTER THIS SEASON?

“At Kansas we ran really well we just didn’t have the finish to show it. We ran in the top-10 for most of the day. One thing we’ve prided ourselves on was having long-run cars and tonight when we needed it it was completely opposite. Like I said we know what we need to do to fix it, just couldn’t do it under a pit stop.”

YOU AND ALLGAIER RACED HARD IN THE CLOSING LAPS OF THE RACE.

“I’ve raced clean with Justin all year. He got by me and I tried to move up a groove and get momentum to get back by him and the 29 and I killed the wall coming off of four, just killed the car for the rest of the race. I think we lost two more spots because of it.”

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 USFIDELIS CHEVROLET:

“Earl Barban was spotting for me tonight. That’s Jimmie Johnson’s spotter and used to be Rusty’s spotter back in the day. I tell you what, that man has got some talent. We missed that first wreck but when we went through the grass, unfortunately, right where I went through the grass is one of those big drainage grates. It popped the USfidelis car up and it made the boys have to do some damage control on the right side. Just missing a wreck, I mean, nothing you could do there, just racing. Then that one wreck off of Turn 2 man Earl started screaming where to go and this and that and I think I might have closed my eyes and just listened to what he said. And then the 6 come just diving in front of me.

I’m like ‘Oh my God, this is going to hurt’ and somehow I missed him. We brought it home in one piece. This is our first Kevin Harvick car. In the rookie battle, I think Michael Annett did another great job tonight. Michael Annett has really been on fire lately. I saw the 12 fade in the end but it’s almost too little too late in the Raybestos program for us. We need either two wins in the last couple of races this season to make a strong run. I’m proud of Michael. He’s done a great job especially with limited funds at the end of this year. We’ll head on to Memphis.”

TONIGHT IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF HOW ROTTEN YOUR LUCK HAS BEEN THIS SEASON.

“We’ve got good racecars. Rusty Wallace is giving us very good race cars. It’s almost the story of my career the last couple of years. I always believe that you make your own luck and I must be doing something wrong. The guys work hard, the fab shop works hard, everybody works hard and we go to miss a wreck and we pile through a grate, you know, nobody’s fault. You go to California and you get wrecked not on your own and running up front. We’ve had some tough deals but Dale [Ferguson, crew chief] and all the boys are working hard. Not body is quitting over here.”

Bryan Berry my crew chief just told me that our 5-Hour Energy Chevy was probably the third or fourth quickest car on the track. And it felt like it, too. It was going forward. I was up on the high groove and I wanted to get by Paul Menard there because he was holding me up and I didn’t want to go to the bottom so I was waiting to set some things up and I went in too high.

I got up over that gray line there and put it in the fence harder than a decal scraper, as we like to say, and it did some damage and I could feel that we were probably rubbing, just hoping for somebody else to be the caution. Now I’ve got to rely on my boys to put whole new right front corner on it and try to get it back out there for points. We’ve got Raybestos Rookie points, we’ve got top-five in points that we’re gunning for, we’ve got a lot of points that we need to gain.”

MICHAEL ANNETT IN THE No. 15 PILOT TRAVEL CENTERS TOYOTA WAS THE TOP RAYBESTOS ROOKIE IN TONIGHT’S RACE AT ATLANTA.

NOTES:

- Annett scored a 14th-place finish and claimed Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for third time in 2009.

We were the top finishing Raybestos Rookie again so that’s good. We keep going forward. I just can’t thank these guys enough for how much hard work they put in at the shop and come race weekend we just keep getting better. All summer we’ve just kept getting better and better and that’s what we need to do.”

COMMENT ON THE CHANGING TRACK CONDITIONS.

“I think the biggest thing was that nobody really knew what it was going to do when it got dark because we’d never raced here at night.”

Justin Allgaier

JUSTIN ALLGAIER, No. 12 VERIZON WIRELESS DODGE:

“We thought that probably more people were going to have to come in and pit there at the end so we saved fuel for about the last 20 laps. It probably hurt us a little bit but you know in all reality it didn’t hurt us horribly and we got a spot right there at the end coming to the checkered. A little frustrating for the Verizon Wireless Dodge. We thought we had a better car than that. We just didn’t have a whole lot of luck. We tried to stay out of all the wrecks and seemed to be that there were some guys that, you know, had the same handling cars and got themselves in trouble early. We just conserved and tried to make the best of what we had.”

HOW PHYSICAL WAS THIS RACE?

“It’s not that physical, really, to be honest with you. I mean it definitely was hot. But you know that’s where we make our money doing what we do. I think the biggest thing is when you’re not running good it just makes the day that much longer. Definitely not the night we wanted, I can promise you that.”
