(Sept. 16, 2010) – Brett Moffitt turned around his slow run from practice to run a record-lap in qualifying Thursday for Friday’s New Hampshire 125 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

It is the third career 21 Means 21 Pole Award presented by Coors Light for the second-year NASCAR K&N Pro Series East driver from Grimes, Iowa. Moffitt’s lap of 29.863 seconds (127.542 mph) broke the track record set in 2002 by Brian Hoar of 29.893 (127.414). He also captured the pole in the series’ June race at New Hampshire.

Moffitt went out 26th out of 32 cars and knocked Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Max Gresham off the provisional pole. Gresham, who put down a lap of 29.945 (127.193), will start on the outside of the front row. Kevin Swindell qualified third at 29.954 (127.155). Swindell had won the Coors Light Pole Award in the previous two races: at Lee (N.H.) USA Speedway and Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Ga.

Eddie MacDonald and points leader Ryan Truex rounded out the top five qualifies. Truex enters Friday’s race, the second-to-last of the season, with a 66-point lead over Darrell Wallace Jr. as he goes for a second straight NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship. Wallace qualified eighth.

Cole Whitt was sixth fastest in qualifying, followed by Ryan Gifford, Wallace, Corey LaJoie, and Alan Tardiff.

The New Hampshire 125 is scheduled to take the green flag at 5 p.m.

(June 25, 2010) – Ryan Truex became the third member of his family to reach Victory Lane at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Friday as he dominated the New England 125 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race.

Truex took the lead on Lap 60 and never looked back as the Mayetta, N.J., driver joined his brother NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Martin Truex Jr., and his father, Martin Sr., on the K&N Pro Series East winners list at New Hampshire.

The younger Truex needed 60 laps to work his way from a sixth starting position to the lead, and once he got there, he was able to check out on the rest of the field. It wasn’t all easy for Truex, however, as the 18-year-old development driver for Michael Waltrip racing had to survive four restarts in the last half of the race to earn his fourth career K&N Pro Series East victory.

Truex was followed across the line Friday by Kevin Swindell, Darrell Wallace Jr., Ryan Gifford and Brett Moffitt in the top five. It marked the best finish in 10 career starts for Swindell in the series.

Ty Dillon, Alan Tardiff, Corey LaJoie, Andrew Ranger and Eddie MacDonald rounded out the top 10.

With the New Hampshire win, Truex earned a secured starting position in the postseason NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown in Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Calif.). The defending NASCAR K&N Pro Series East champion, he extended his points lead to 33 over Wallace and 89 over Gifford. Moffitt and Kobyluck are fourth and fifth, respectively.

The New England 125 will be broadcast on SPEED on Thursday, July 1 at 6 p.m.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will return to the track at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn., on Saturday, July 3.

(June 24, 2010) – There may not have been anybody more surprised that Brett Moffitt earned the 21 Means 21 Pole Award presented by Coors Light in NASCAR K&N Pro Series East qualifying Thursday than Moffitt himself.

After only being 21st fastest in practice earlier in the day, Moffitt rolled off a first lap of 30.356 seconds around the 1.058-mile oval for an average speed of 125.471 mph. Going out 29th out of 32 qualifiers for Friday’s New England 125, Moffitt was quick enough to knock New Hampshire native D.J. Shaw off the provisional pole.

Moffitt’s only other career pole came in his series debut in 2009 at Greenville (S.C.) Pickens Speedway. The 17-year-old from Grimes, Iowa, is coming off a win at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.

Shaw, whose father Dale has three wins at New Hampshire, will start on the outside of the front row after his lap of 30.430 (125.166). He started 17th in both races at New Hampshire last year.

Moffitt’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Max Gresham qualified third at 30.438 (125.133). Ryan Gifford and Ty Dillon rounded out the top five. Points leader Ryan Truex qualified sixth, followed by Kevin Swindell, Cole Whitt, Alan Tardiff and Miguel Paludo.

Green flag for the New England 125 is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m.

Grimes, Iowa (November 25, 2009) – During Champions Week in Concord, NC, Brett Moffitt celebrated a spectacular first year of NASCAR racing, which began while Moffitt was just sixteen years old. The 2009 NASCAR Camping World Series East season-ending banquet was held last week in the Embassy Suites Hotel Concord Convention Center, near the NASCAR Research & Development Center, the future NASCAR Hall of Fame complex, and also in close proximity to Charlotte, NC, the home base of many of the NASCAR race teams.

During Saturday night’s NASCAR Night of Champions Touring Awards Gala, Moffitt, a rookie and a serious contender for the 2009 NCWSE championship, graced the awards stage twice. After being presented with the trophy and points fund check for finishing third in the overall season points standings, Moffitt was called back to the stage to receive the prestigious Most Improved Driver of the 2009 Season award.

Moffitt and his Andy Santerre Motorsports team ended the season on a high note, finishing in second place at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and winning the final 2009 event on the Monster Mile at Dover in a dominating fashion. Dover was also Santerre’s last event as a team owner. With this win, Moffitt and team scored their second victory of the season. Moffitt and the ASM Team gave notice of their strength during the first race of the 2009 season at Greenville-Pickens Speedway, when the rookie won the pole in his series debut. Moffitt went on to score six top fives and nine top tens, finishing the season a mere sixty points behind series veteran, Eddie McDonald, and only ninety-four points behind fellow rookie competitor and Michael Waltrip development driver, Ryan Truex. Only two other rookie drivers cracked the top ten in 2009; Alan Tardiff finished seventh, while Alex Kennedy took the tenth spot.

Moffitt also managed to embed his name in the NASCAR history book, first becoming the youngest driver in NASCAR history to win a pole at the season opener, then becoming the youngest driver in NASCAR history to win a race during the fourth event of 2009 at South Boston Speedway, and finally, becoming the youngest driver in history to lead the points in a NASCAR series, which he accomplished with a third place finish during NCWSE event number five at Watkins Glen International. These three records had previously been held by another up and coming young NASCAR driver, Joey Logano. When asked if he had it in for Logano, the rookie Moffitt replied, “Not really. I am just trying to make a mark for myself, hoping to attract some attention and gain some support, so I can continue to climb the ladder in the world of professional stock car racing.”

Earlier in the championship week, Moffitt and his father, Dick, took advantage of their stay in the hub of NASCAR racing by visiting several ARCA teams and two prominent NASCAR Sprint, Nationwide, and Camping World series team owners, in preparation for the 2010 racing season. Moffitt’s 2009 mentor, Andy Santerre, himself a multiple series champion and one of the most highly-regarded NCWSE owners, has since sold his team and is moving on to other opportunities. Santerre commented, “What I want people to remember about Brett and his 2009 season is that he started the season as a sixteen year old rookie, competing in only his second year in stock cars on asphalt.

He raced against NASCAR veterans, as well as several rookies who all had a lot more seat time in the NASCAR type of cars than he did. On top of that, our team was one of the most underfunded teams in the NCWSE. Brett is one of the most talented drivers competing in the NCWSE today. He raced and made decisions on the race track at a maturity level well beyond his age and experience. Race after race, he used a calm demeanor to face whatever situation he was put into. He completed races and brought an unscathed car back to the garage on all four wheels, with all four fenders on it. He was a quick study, he is humble, and he was one of the most pleasurable drivers I have ever had the opportunity to work with. I sincerely hope someone will pick him up and keep him racing. He definitely has the talent to compete in NASCAR’s big league someday.”

When asked about his son’s plans for 2010, Brett’s father, Dick, commented, “We hope our first race will be the Toyota All-Star Event on January 29thand 30th at Irwindale Speedway. Brett is qualified, and we are talking to some teams. All we need is for the right deal to fall into place.” Regarding the balance of the 2010 season, talks with potential teams are ongoing. With the right package in place, Moffitt would like to compete for the championship in the NASCAR Camping World Series East, and when scheduling permits, he would also like to compete in as many races as he can with the ARCA RE/MAX Series. This could include as many as twelve or thirteen events, based on the tracks on which he can compete while he is still seventeen, plus the remaining events that are scheduled after his eighteenth birthday. Of course, Moffitt’s 2010 schedule is contingent on the right sponsorship/partnership package. Based on his accomplishments, and with the ability Moffitt has demonstrated, the right deal is certainly just around the corner.

In his short racing career, Moffitt won the coveted WKA Triple Crown at the age of thirteen and a Golden Driller at the Tulsa Shoot-Out in only his third year racing in karts. In 2007, at the age of fourteen, he drove his first race car, competing in an IMCA SportMod. Moffitt raced in seventy-six events and captured twenty-six feature wins, including the 2007 Harris Clash Championship, where he became the youngest driver in the history of Knoxville Raceway (Iowa) to win a feature event. Moffitt was also the All-Iowa SportMod State Champion in 2007. At fifteen, Moffitt competed for the first time on asphalt as a regular in the ASA Late Model Series North, where he finished second in the series point standings and was crowned its 2008 Rookie of the Year. Also in 2008, Moffitt set several track records while competing with ASALMS and became the youngest driver in its history to qualify for the prestigious Slinger Nationals, a record previously held by a then seventeen year old Matt Kenseth.

In his first race in a Super Late Model during the 2008 season-ending 39th Annual Oktoberfest, Moffitt set two quick times, and event officials awarded Brett Moffitt the Al Schilling “Young Gun Award” for his accomplishments during the 2008 Oktoberfest Race Weekend. At sixteen, and in the fourth different kind of race car in as many years, Moffitt’s accomplishments speak for themselves. While competing in the NCWSE, in only his second year behind the wheel of a stock car on asphalt, his final race of the 2009 season was his first-ever ARCA RE/MAX Series race at the Rockingham Speedway, and the result was a very respectable tenth place run. Brett Moffitt continues to showcase his drive, desire, talent, and ability to become a professional stock car driver. Certainly, the deal and the help Moffitt is looking for is just around the corner.

Stay tuned! Without a doubt, there is more to come in 2010!

Dover, DE (September 27, 2009): Alan Tardiff struggled with a flu bug at Dover International Speedway over the last couple of days, but was able to overcome it long enough to post a fifth place finish in the Sunoco 150 on Friday evening. Tardiff drove the No. 38 Bestway Disposal/Renton Coil Springs Chevrolet to the top-five from a 16th place starting position.

“I don’t know if I have a flu bug or something,” said Tardiff. “I got up today and I still had a headache, but I had to put everything together and just work it out. We had a fast racecar today. We raced in second place for a long while, but the 44 car was stellar and no one was touching him. We came in took fuel and tires, and the car got really loose. Our goal was to come here and get a top-five and we accomplished that so I’m really happy.”

The Sunoco 150 marked Tardiff’s track debut at Dover so patience was the name of the game until the first caution came out. Tardiff was running 14th for the restart at lap 16 and made it up to 10th before caution slowed his pace once again. He remained in the top-10 until lap 48 when a majority of the leaders headed for pit road. Tardiff elected to stay out and gain track position.

“We wanted to put ourselves off sequence,” explained Tardiff. “To be off sequence later in the run would give us fresher tires and more fuel in the car later in the run. It turned out to be beneficial for us. My guys did a really, really good job this weekend just as they have been all year.”

Tardiff restarted the race on the outside second row and moved up to third at the drop of the green. On lap 60, Tardiff went to the bottom of early leader Matt DiBenedetto and passed him for second. Moffit, however, had already stretched out a 2.2 second lead over the Bestway Disposal/Renton Coil Springs Chevrolet. Tardiff worked on closing up the distance when caution appeared at lap 80.

The yellow flag conditions gave Tardiff the opportunity he needed to come down pit road for fuel and tires. He returned to the track in eighth for the restart at lap 86. Tardiff gained two spots on the initial drop, but experienced a loose condition in the Bestway Disposal Chevrolet that hadn’t existed before.

Caution tightened the field up once again at lap 97 with Tardiff maintaining his position over the next 15 laps. He was able to move up to fifth by passing Ryan Truex on lap 116.

The race went green for the remainder of the distance and Tardiff was able to close out the 2009 NASCAR Camping World Series East with a fifth place finish. It was his third top-five and eighth top-10 of the season. Tardiff earned a seventh place position in the final point standings.

“I didn’t have high expectations coming to this racetrack since I had never been here before. A top-five is a win. I was running second and I was smiling ear to ear,” Tardiff said.

DOVER, Del. – Dover International Speedway has been a special race track for the Truex family through the years, and today it became even a little more special. Ryan Truex finished off his rookie season in the NASCAR Camping World East Series by claiming the series championship with an eighth-place finish in the Sunoco 150 at Dover on Friday afternoon. Truex, 17, driver of the No. 00 NAPA Toyota, did so two-and-a-half years after his older brother Martin won his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup series race at the Monster Mile, which the family from Mayetta, N.J., has long considered their home track.

“We didn’t have the best car today, but I think we showed why we’re the champions, said the new 17-year-old champion. “We can adjust on a car and make it better. We were running good for a while up in second, and then the car just got away from me there. I was running as hard as I could, and I was just trying to keep my car in one piece. This track’s really tough. We just ran a smart race and it worked out for us.”

Brett Moffit claimed the Sunoco 150 in what he called “the best win so far” in his young career. Moffitt, driver of the No.44 Red Line Oil Chevrolet, led the majority of the race.

Truex came into the race 30 points ahead of Eddie MacDonald and ended up winning the championship by 36 points. MacDonald finished in ninth, four seconds behind Truex.

“We knew going in that we had probably one car we had to race against, which was Eddie MacDonald,” said crew chief Mike Grecci. “So we went into the race with the plan to race against one car. We were able to come out with a pretty good finish.”

Truex held off a charge from MacDonald over the past couple of weeks. MacDonald won last week at New Hampshire, but Truex finished third to maintain his points lead.

“After qualifying I was a little nervous because he was second and we were sixth,” Truex said. “But I just went out there and raced. I knew we’d be all right.”

Meanwhile, a proud big brother was beaming in the infield media center after the race.

“It’s very exciting,” said NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Martin Truex Jr. “I’m so proud of him not only from what he’s done today, but through the whole season. I’m thankful to Michael Waltrip Racing for giving him this opportunity. It’s been a lot of fun to watch.”

Ryan Gifford finished second, 2.5 seconds behind Moffit. “I’m almost speechless being here,” said Gifford. “Three years ago I never would have saw myself in this position. I was just home dirt-track racing and now I’m here running at Dover. This really is a dream come true for me.”

Corey LaJoie, son of NASCAR veteran Randy LaJoie, was third, followed by David Mayhew and rookie Alan Tardiff, who rounded out the top five.

Loudon, NH (September 20, 2009): Despite a vibration in the No. 38 Bestway Disposal/Renton Coil Spring Chevrolet, Alan Tardiff was able to rally to a seventh place finish in Friday night’s Heluva Good Fall 125 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, a NASCAR Camping World Series East event, and put together a lucky seven combination that tightened up his point race heading into the series’ finale at Dover next weekend.

Tardiff’s finish marked his seventh top-10 finish of the season and moved him up to seventh in the point standings, just seven points out of sixth place.

“It’s a mirror finish of June: we had a seventh place in both races. We’re pretty happy with it,” said Tardiff.

Tardiff started nineteenth after posting a qualifying speed of 122.762 mph Thursday afternoon, and moved up to 15th at the drop of the green where he remained until pitting at lap 15. He returned to the track to take the green at lap 18 in the top-20.

Tardiff picked up a vibration early in the race, but worked through it and continued to soldier on.

“The car had a lot of grip up on top and it was really comfortable. We picked off quite a few cars pretty quick. The car picked up a major vibration – again. We had one the last time we were here and the brake pads crystallized on us. This time, I don’t know what happened, but I breathed on the brake pedal and it was just shaking the whole car around going around the corners,” he said.

A caution flew at lap 30 with Tardiff in the 14th position for the restart. In less than 10 laps, Tardiff had wheeled the No. 38 Bestway Disposal/Renton Coil Spring Chevrolet up to ninth before the caution slowed the pace once again. Pit stops allowed Tardiff to gain two spots under the yellow and the team would restart the race from the seventh position.

The Lyman, Maine native maintained the seventh place position despite developing a throttle-loose condition in the latter stages of the race. He dropped back to tenth by lap 70. When the race went green at lap 92, Tardiff had dropped all the way back to 12th. He gained two more spots before caution came out yet again.

NASCAR shortened the race to 100 laps after rain delayed the start by 40 minutes, and decided to shorten it up to 99 laps because of darkness. The final restart came at lap 97 where Tardiff rallied in a two-lap dash to the checkers to cross the line in seventh place.

“I just held on to it. It got wild at the end, but I was able to gain a few spots,” said Tardiff. “It was hard to make a run going down the straightaway with the car getting throttle loose, but we just held on to it. It was a good points day for us and good effort by everybody on this team. We’ll take it and move on to Dover.”

The Bestway Disposal/Renton Coil Spring Chevrolet and driver Alan Tardiff will return to action on Friday, September 25th for the Sunoco 150 at Dover International Speedway. The event marks the season finale for the NASCAR Camping World Series East 2009 season.

“Rookie Takes Points Lead With Victory”

THOMPSON, Conn. (July 11, 2009) – Ryan Truex captured the checkered flag in a NASCAR Camping World Series East race for the second time in the last three outings as he took the Pepsi Full Fender Frenzy 100 Saturday night at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway.

Truex (No. 00 NAPA Toyota) battled Steve Park (No. 35 Waste Management Recycle America Chevrolet) through the last half of the race as the pair swapped the lead three times, but it was the 17-year-old Michael Waltrip Racing development driver who got past the veteran on Lap 96 and rode to the victory.

It was the second win in the last three outings for Truex, who earned his first series victory at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International on June 6. The Mayetta, N.J., native also joined his older brother, Martin Truex Jr., as NASCAR Camping World Series East winners at Thompson.

Park’s runner-up finish was the best of his 2009 season so far. He led a race-high 76 laps after earning the Coors Light Pole Award earlier in the day.

Matt DiBenedetto (No. 18 Joe Gibbs Driven Toyota) finished third to record his fourth top-five in five starts this year. Eddie MacDonald (No. 71 NEMO/Grimm Construction) and Alan Tardiff (No. 38 Bestway Disposal Chevrolet) rounded out the top five.

The rest of the top 10 finishers included Matt Kobyluck, Jesus Hernandez, Ryan Duff, Jonathan Smith and Brett Moffitt.

With the win, Truex has registered three-straight top-three finishes, which vaulted him past Jody Lavender and MacDonald into the points lead with four races remaining on the 2009 schedule. Lavender, the points leader entering the day, finished 11th.

The NASCAR Camping World Series East will next compete at Adirondack International Speedway on Saturday, August 1 in The Edge Hotel 150 presented by Casella Waste Systems.

Thompson, Conn. (July 12, 2009): Matt Kobyluck and the Mohegan Sun Casino race team posted a sixth place finish in the NASCAR Camping World Series East’s Pepsi Full Fender Frenzy 100 at Thompson International Speedway Saturday night. The event marked Kobyluck’s only appearance in his home state of Connecticut this year.

“The car didn’t change any from lap one to lap 100. We were too tight in the middle of the track the whole race,” said Kobyluck. “We got out of it what we could. On the short runs we were better than the 38 and on the long runs he was better.”

Kobyluck started the race in third after posting a qualifying lap of 20.474 seconds (109.895 mph) in time trials. At the drop of the green, he wheeled the No. 40 Mohegan Sun Casino Chevrolet into second but got loose in the corner and fell back to fifth.

Kobyluck maintained his fifth place position with no challenges until lap 39 when the 38 of Alan Tardiff got up to Kobyluck’s door in an intense side-by-side battle. Kobyluck held him off, but Tardiff challenged again on the following circuit and another side-by-side battle developed. Kobyluck continued to close the door on his persistent challenges and held on to the fifth spot until a restart at lap 55 when Tardiff eventually got by.

Kobyluck gained some ground on a restart at lap 68 when he used the bottom groove to go by Tardiff and Matt DiBenedetto to take over the fifth spot once again. A long green flag run strung out the top five, and Kobyluck was able to hold off the advances of Tardiff once again.

Caution tightened the field back up with nine laps remaining in the event. On the restart, Tardiff was able to drive by the Mohegan Sun Casino Chevrolet and relegated Kobyluck back to sixth. On the final lap, the defending 2008 Camping World East Champion was making a challenge on Tardiff when the 74 of Jarit Johnson got into the mix. Kobyluck and Johnson were side-by-side when they made contact.

“The 38 got free coming off of turn four and I was going under him at the same time. We both went up the track and the 74 was on the outside of me. We ended up just rubbing a little bit, but he (Johnson) ended up getting a flat out of it. It was hard racing with one lap left to go. It’s a product of short track racing.”

Kobyluck took the checkers in sixth and holds on to a fourth place position in the point standings, 50 points out of the lead. The next event for the Mohegan Sun Race team is at Adirondack International Speedway in New York on Saturday, August 1st.

Loudon, N.H. (June 27, 2009): Matt Kobyluck was poised for a podium finish in Friday night’s Heluva Good! Summer 125 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, but a late race restart at lap 110 proved costly for the driver of the No. 40 Mohegan Sun Casino Chevrolet and the team ended the night with an eleventh place finish. The trouble happened in a battle with Steve Park that resulted in contact on the backstretch.

“The 9 car spun his tires and he didn’t go on that restart. I had to slow up for that and a bunch of cars went by me. We came out of turn two and the 35 came up in front of me. The 29 went to go under the 35 and got in the back of him, which got Park out into the fence. That’s when I got into the back of him,” explained Kobyluck.

Kobyluck started the Camping World Series East race from the seventh position and became a factor in the top four as early as lap 20. He got shuffled back to eighth in lapped traffic before the first caution of the night flew at lap 39.

Kobyluck followed the leaders onto pit road for fuel and returned to the track in fifth place for the restart at lap 46. Eventual race winner Matt DiBenedetto went by Kobyluck for fifth on the restart, but Kobyluck reclaimed his place in the top-five in a battle with Alan Tardiff just two laps later.

Kobyluck pitted for fresh tires at lap 65 and restarted the race at lap 68 in the eighth position. In just a single lap, Kobyluck gained three positions but caution would quickly slow his progress on lap 69.

The race resumed at lap 73 with Kobyluck in fifth with an intense battle to settle the top-five at the drop of the green. Kobyluck battled with Ryan Truex, but soon found himself in a tight door-to-door battle with Ryan Gifford. At lap 77, when the caution came out, Kobyluck had advanced to fourth.

On the restart, Kobyluck found himself in a three wide battle with Ryan Truex and Steve Park. Kobyluck emerged the third place driver and was closing in on the second place car of Kevin Swindell. At lap 100, Kobyluck was challenged again by Truex and was relegated to the fourth spot before caution came out at lap 105.

Following the contact with Steve Park, Kobyluck dropped back to 18th and was forced to pit on the next caution at lap 115.

“I did a bunch of right front damage to the car and the tire was rubbing so bad it would have blew out the tire and wrecked the car,” said Kobyluck. “We got what we could get after that.”

Kobyluck rallied in the closing laps of the race to finish 11th.
