In addition to thrilling laps around Talladega’s historic high banks, there will also be a Kids Zone in the infield for children to share in the excitement of the day.  Snacks will be provided by Talladega Superspeedway sponsors and there will also be photo opportunities in Gatorade Victory Lane.

Laps around the track begin at 9 am, with the infield opening to the general public from 10am – 2 pm.

25th Annual Race Fever Dinner and Auction – October 29, 2010

Race Fever began in 1986, when former NASCAR Chairman, the late Bill France, Jr. organized the first event to benefit children and adults served by AIDB.  This event has come a long way since its beginnings on the football field at the Alabama School for the Deaf and Blind raising $12,000.  Through the continued support and coordination between the racing community, AIDB and Talladega Superspeedway, Race Fever has grown steadily and in 25 years has raised close to $3.0 million for AIDB Foundation, the designated charity of Talladega Superspeedway.

Your ticket includes admission to the event, an all-you-can-eat barbecue feast, the chance to meet dozens of NASCAR drivers, and an opportunity to bid on remarkable race memorabilia, vacation packages and other items donated by businesses and friends of AIDB. All presenting volunteer donors will receive a t-shirt and a “hot lap” in an official Talladega Superspeedway Pace Vehicle, while everyone who pre-registers online will receive a pass for a free round of golf on any Robert Trent Jones golf trail (Lakewood and Ross Bridge excluded) or a Talladega Superspeedway MP3 player (while supplies last).  To register online, go to www.redcrossblood.org and enter the keyword TALLADEGA in the search field. The blood drive will begin at the SPEED Channel Dome in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, where each participant and one guest will receive a special credential for the day that allows access to five different Pit Stops. Once all five Pit Stops are completed, the participants will have made a “Lap For Life” around Talladega Superspeedway.

The credential will be issued at Pit Stop 1, “Draw For Qualifying” where participants will register to have blood drawn for donation, thus qualifying them for the rest of the adventure. There, they also will receive a ticket qualifying them for spectacular door prizes, such as driving school certificates and racing memorabilia.

After presenting to give blood, participants will move on to Pit Stop 2, “Souvenir Row,” where they’ll receive a goody bag filled with special items to commemorate the occasion.

From there, they’ll move to Pit Stop 3, “Driver’s Meeting,” to learn more about the history of motorsports by taking a free tour of the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum.
After the tour, participants will venture outside to board a tour bus and be transported on a track tour of the famous Talladega Superspeedway.

The tour will lead them to Pit Stop 4, “Type Testing.”  Here, guests will be given the opportunity to have their photos taken in Gatorade Victory lane if they bring their camera.

Participants will return to the Hall of Fame for Pit Stop 5, “The Donor Diner,” where they will enjoy treats provided by Talladega Superspeedway sponsors.

Talladega Superspeedway Laps For Life: A Blood Drive For Alabama, began in 2006 as part of a nationwide effort among multiple tracks.

The American Red Cross, Blood Services, Alabama and Central Gulf Coast Region , which supplies blood to approximately 100 hospitals, needs 600 blood donors each day in order to meet the needs of patients in the region. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent) and weigh at least 110 pounds. The move will be in effect in time for the April 23-25 Aaron’s Dream Weekend.

“Words can hardly describe how excited I am about the return of bump-drafting,” said Talladega Superspeedway President Rick Humphrey.  “NASCAR’s decision to put the racing back in the hands of the drivers is sure to have a positive impact on the competition and excitement race fans experience at Talladega Superspeedway.”

Drivers called for changes at Talladega following the conclusion of the 2009 AMP Energy 500, stating that NASCAR was “boxing them in” with the bump-draft rules.  While the AMP Energy 500 produced a season-high 13,438 green flag passes, it also had stretches of single-file racing, something that is almost never seen at Talladega.

“Certainly race fans have high expectations when they come to Talladega Superspeedway,” said Humphrey.  “They expect the tightest racing, the most lead changes, the most passes and the closest finishes.  The return of bump-drafting certainly moves us toward meeting and exceeding each of those expectations.”

Members of the Talladega Superspeedway and Thunder 92.7 staff encouraged listeners and race fans to bid on one-of-a-kind race packages on-air, while donations of baked goods, racing memorabilia and other items such as gift certificates from local merchants, flowed in throughout the day.

“The listener and fan support during this year’s Bake A Christmas was truly amazing,” said Talladega Superspeedway President Rick Humphrey. “Everyone stepped up with donations and purchases to make this a very successful year. It’s extremely rewarding to be involved with an event that is having such a positive impact on so many lives.”

This year’s top selling items were a checkered flag autographed by every driver that competed in the 2009 AMP Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway and a day at Talladega Superspeedway with Jim Jacobs and Rufus T. Raspberry of WTDR 92.7. Those items combined with ticket packages to the 2010 Aaron’s Dream Weekend fetched over $2,200.

Talladega Superspeedway is already gearing up for the 2010 Aaron’s Dream Weekend featuring qualifying for the NASCAR Nationwide Series, followed by the ARCA Racing Series 250 race on Friday, April 23. On Saturday, April 24, fans will see qualifying for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, followed by the Aaron’s 312 NASCAR Nationwide Series race. On Sunday, April 25, the greatest drivers in the world face off in the Aaron’s 499 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.
