(Sept. 24, 2010) – It was a pair of teenagers who conquered the “Monster Mile” like veterans Friday.

Eighteen-year-old Brett Moffitt picked up his second straight win at Dover International Speedway in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season finale Friday in the Sunoco 150. Ryan Truex, 18, clinched his back-to-back series championship simply by taking the green-flag and capped off his title run with a third-place finish.

Moffitt took advantage of a mechanical issue that sidelined his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Max Gresham on the first of two green-white-checkered attempts to inherit the lead, and then drove away from Corey LaJoie, 18, on the final restart to pick up his second win of the season and fourth of his career. Moffitt won at Dover last year driving for Andy Santerre Motorsports.

Ryan Truex (R), driver of the No. 00 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota Camry, and NASCAR president Mike Helton pose with the series championship trophy after the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Sunoco 150 at Dover International Speedway on September 24, 2010 in Dover, Delaware (Photo Credit: Nick Laham / Getty Images)

Truex, a development driver for Michael Waltrip Racing, put the championship out of reach with his win at New Hampshire last week. Unlike last season, when Truex was engaged in a tight points battle with Eddie MacDonald, he was able to drive Friday with the pressure off. After qualifying sixth, he ran near the front all race and recorded his eighth top five finish in 10 starts.

He also gave crew chief Mike Greci his fourth NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship. Greci won a pair of rings with driver Mike Stefanik in 1997 and ’98.

Gresham won the 21 Means 21 Pole Award presented by Coors Light earlier in the day. Despite occasional small puffs of smoke when he drove off the corners, he was able to run up front and lead a race-high 85 laps. He was leading the race on the first green-white-checkered attempt when the engine finally let go. The final caution for major smoke coming out from underneath the car handed the lead to Moffitt.

Eddie MacDonald and Dale Quarterley rounded out the top five.

IZOD IndyCar Series driver Danica Patrick finished sixth in her series debut. Brandon Ward, Sergio Pena, Kevin Swindell and D.J. Shaw completed the top 10.

The win, coupled with an early accident by Darrell Wallace Jr., allowed Moffitt to finish second in points — 134 behind Truex. Wallace ended up third in points, followed by Cole Whitt and MacDonald.

The Sunoco 150 will air on SPEED on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. ET.

Grimes, Iowa (May 20, 2010) – Grimes’ teenage NASCAR driver, Brett Moffitt, can hardly wait until this weekend gets here. Moffitt will return to his home track, the Iowa Speedway, and will be back in the seat of the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) #02 Toyota, after the longest break of the season for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Moffitt and his JGR team will be on the track in Newton on Saturday afternoon, May 22nd, for practice. They will be back on the track on Sunday for additional practice, qualifying, and to compete in the Goodyear Dealers of Iowa 200 – NASCAR K&N Pro Series East/West Challenge.

Kum & Go is a proud sponsor of the young Iowa native for this week’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series East / West Challenge. To promote the event and to celebrate a Grand Re-Opening, Moffitt will join forces with Iowa-based Kum & Go and will drive the JGR/Kum & Go #20 Toyota this weekend.

Stop by store #92 in Ankeny (at the corner of Oralabor & 1st Street) on Friday morning from 7-9 am to meet Brett Moffitt and get his autograph, as well as to support the Grand Re-Opening of this store location. Grand Re-Opening festivities for customers will also include free 32-oz. fountain drinks on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, plus the opportunity to register to win free gas for a year!

Although Moffitt just turned seventeen last August, he is already well on his way to a career in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Since the last race with his JGR team on April 8th, he has kept busy racing in Central Iowa in his IMCA SportMod. During the time off between NASCAR events, Moffitt has racked up six feature event wins in the last four weeks, while keeping his racing skills honed.

After Iowa Speedway, Moffitt and his JGR team will head to Martinsville Speedway, Martinsville, VA, on June 6th, and to New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Loudon, NH, on June 25th. Between these events, you can see Moffitt in the seat of his SportMod, tearing up the dirt at tracks in Iowa like Marshalltown Speedway, Marshalltown; Hamilton County Speedway, Webster City; I-35 Speedway, Mason City; Southern Iowa Speedway, Oskaloosa; Stuart Speedway, Stuart, Iowa and Boone Speedway, Boone.

In 2009, while driving for Andy Santerre Motorsports in what was formerly the “NASCAR Camping World Series East” and is now the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, Brett earned two wins, top ten finishes in 85% of the events, and was third in the season-ending points standings. Brett won the pole for the first race in April, 2009, making him the youngest driver ever to win a pole in the series, and he became the youngest driver ever to win a race in the series with a win at South Boston Speedway. He was also the youngest driver ever to lead the series in points.

Grimes, Iowa (November 25, 2009) – During Champions Week in Concord, NC, Brett Moffitt celebrated a spectacular first year of NASCAR racing, which began while Moffitt was just sixteen years old. The 2009 NASCAR Camping World Series East season-ending banquet was held last week in the Embassy Suites Hotel Concord Convention Center, near the NASCAR Research & Development Center, the future NASCAR Hall of Fame complex, and also in close proximity to Charlotte, NC, the home base of many of the NASCAR race teams.

During Saturday night’s NASCAR Night of Champions Touring Awards Gala, Moffitt, a rookie and a serious contender for the 2009 NCWSE championship, graced the awards stage twice. After being presented with the trophy and points fund check for finishing third in the overall season points standings, Moffitt was called back to the stage to receive the prestigious Most Improved Driver of the 2009 Season award.

Moffitt and his Andy Santerre Motorsports team ended the season on a high note, finishing in second place at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and winning the final 2009 event on the Monster Mile at Dover in a dominating fashion. Dover was also Santerre’s last event as a team owner. With this win, Moffitt and team scored their second victory of the season. Moffitt and the ASM Team gave notice of their strength during the first race of the 2009 season at Greenville-Pickens Speedway, when the rookie won the pole in his series debut. Moffitt went on to score six top fives and nine top tens, finishing the season a mere sixty points behind series veteran, Eddie McDonald, and only ninety-four points behind fellow rookie competitor and Michael Waltrip development driver, Ryan Truex. Only two other rookie drivers cracked the top ten in 2009; Alan Tardiff finished seventh, while Alex Kennedy took the tenth spot.

Moffitt also managed to embed his name in the NASCAR history book, first becoming the youngest driver in NASCAR history to win a pole at the season opener, then becoming the youngest driver in NASCAR history to win a race during the fourth event of 2009 at South Boston Speedway, and finally, becoming the youngest driver in history to lead the points in a NASCAR series, which he accomplished with a third place finish during NCWSE event number five at Watkins Glen International. These three records had previously been held by another up and coming young NASCAR driver, Joey Logano. When asked if he had it in for Logano, the rookie Moffitt replied, “Not really. I am just trying to make a mark for myself, hoping to attract some attention and gain some support, so I can continue to climb the ladder in the world of professional stock car racing.”

Earlier in the championship week, Moffitt and his father, Dick, took advantage of their stay in the hub of NASCAR racing by visiting several ARCA teams and two prominent NASCAR Sprint, Nationwide, and Camping World series team owners, in preparation for the 2010 racing season. Moffitt’s 2009 mentor, Andy Santerre, himself a multiple series champion and one of the most highly-regarded NCWSE owners, has since sold his team and is moving on to other opportunities. Santerre commented, “What I want people to remember about Brett and his 2009 season is that he started the season as a sixteen year old rookie, competing in only his second year in stock cars on asphalt.

He raced against NASCAR veterans, as well as several rookies who all had a lot more seat time in the NASCAR type of cars than he did. On top of that, our team was one of the most underfunded teams in the NCWSE. Brett is one of the most talented drivers competing in the NCWSE today. He raced and made decisions on the race track at a maturity level well beyond his age and experience. Race after race, he used a calm demeanor to face whatever situation he was put into. He completed races and brought an unscathed car back to the garage on all four wheels, with all four fenders on it. He was a quick study, he is humble, and he was one of the most pleasurable drivers I have ever had the opportunity to work with. I sincerely hope someone will pick him up and keep him racing. He definitely has the talent to compete in NASCAR’s big league someday.”

When asked about his son’s plans for 2010, Brett’s father, Dick, commented, “We hope our first race will be the Toyota All-Star Event on January 29thand 30th at Irwindale Speedway. Brett is qualified, and we are talking to some teams. All we need is for the right deal to fall into place.” Regarding the balance of the 2010 season, talks with potential teams are ongoing. With the right package in place, Moffitt would like to compete for the championship in the NASCAR Camping World Series East, and when scheduling permits, he would also like to compete in as many races as he can with the ARCA RE/MAX Series. This could include as many as twelve or thirteen events, based on the tracks on which he can compete while he is still seventeen, plus the remaining events that are scheduled after his eighteenth birthday. Of course, Moffitt’s 2010 schedule is contingent on the right sponsorship/partnership package. Based on his accomplishments, and with the ability Moffitt has demonstrated, the right deal is certainly just around the corner.

In his short racing career, Moffitt won the coveted WKA Triple Crown at the age of thirteen and a Golden Driller at the Tulsa Shoot-Out in only his third year racing in karts. In 2007, at the age of fourteen, he drove his first race car, competing in an IMCA SportMod. Moffitt raced in seventy-six events and captured twenty-six feature wins, including the 2007 Harris Clash Championship, where he became the youngest driver in the history of Knoxville Raceway (Iowa) to win a feature event. Moffitt was also the All-Iowa SportMod State Champion in 2007. At fifteen, Moffitt competed for the first time on asphalt as a regular in the ASA Late Model Series North, where he finished second in the series point standings and was crowned its 2008 Rookie of the Year. Also in 2008, Moffitt set several track records while competing with ASALMS and became the youngest driver in its history to qualify for the prestigious Slinger Nationals, a record previously held by a then seventeen year old Matt Kenseth.

In his first race in a Super Late Model during the 2008 season-ending 39th Annual Oktoberfest, Moffitt set two quick times, and event officials awarded Brett Moffitt the Al Schilling “Young Gun Award” for his accomplishments during the 2008 Oktoberfest Race Weekend. At sixteen, and in the fourth different kind of race car in as many years, Moffitt’s accomplishments speak for themselves. While competing in the NCWSE, in only his second year behind the wheel of a stock car on asphalt, his final race of the 2009 season was his first-ever ARCA RE/MAX Series race at the Rockingham Speedway, and the result was a very respectable tenth place run. Brett Moffitt continues to showcase his drive, desire, talent, and ability to become a professional stock car driver. Certainly, the deal and the help Moffitt is looking for is just around the corner.

Stay tuned! Without a doubt, there is more to come in 2010!

For Win-Tron Racing, the task of working with a new driver is nothing new but the group led by Car Owner Kevin Cywinski and Crew Chief Mike Chaffee is hoping to bring Moffitt to ARCA stardom much like they’ve done with drivers James Buescher, Matt Merrell, Kelly Bires, Bradley Riethmeyer, Beau Slocumb and Justin Marks this year.

In his first full-season of NCWES competition, Moffitt shined. In 11 races, the Grimes, Iowa native boasted two wins, six top-fives and nine top-10 finishes. He also claimed one pole and finished third in the point standings driving a full season Andy Santerre Motorsports (ASM).

The former ASA Late Model Series driver now turns to the ARCA RE/MAX Series and is hoping for a similar one-race showing like he had in the NASCAR Camping World West Series (NCWWS) at Iowa Speedway where he wheeled the No. 4 Karl Chevrolet machine to a stout fourth place effort at his home track.

Rockingham Speedway can’t be compared to Iowa Speedway but many on the Win-Tron Racing team expect Moffitt to literally explode in his inaugural ARCA debut.

“This kid (Brett Moffitt) has a lot of talent,” said Win-Tron Racing Co-Owner and General Manager Nate Thiesse. “His resume in the NASCAR Camping World East Series this year has been absolutely impressive on a limited budget. We are just thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him this weekend at Rockingham.”

Moffitt expressed a similar feeling towards his ARCA debut in the season finale.

“This is a great opportunity for me,” said Moffitt. “Win-Tron Racing has a very respectable name in the ARCA RE/MAX Series and has some of the best equipment out there. I’m just thankful to have the opportunity to drive for them in probably one of the biggest races of the year.”

Thiesse explained what the team’s overall goals were for the weekend.

“We know Brett is capable of winning and while we strive to win on a weekly basis, if we can leave Rockingham with a good finish on the lead lap, then it’s been a good day. Brett doesn’t have any experience at Rockingham, so the odds are against him this weekend but I think with our success at the track in the past, we can erase that deficit.”

Indeed, Win-Tron Racing surged Matt Merrell to a then career-best third place finish at Rockingham Speedway in April securing the Portland, Texas native with his very first top-five run in ARCA. He went on to record back-to-back career best finishes of second at Berlin Raceway and Pocono Raceway respectively.

Entering Rockingham, Win-Tron Racing holds the fourth position in the ARCA RE/MAX Series owner’s standings after 20 races. Car owner Kevin Cywinski is 600 markers from moving back to the top spot held by fellow car owner Jessica Sharp (No. 6). 210 markers keep Cywinski from the third position controlled by car owner Frank Kimmel (No. 44). The team maintained their position after Beau Slocumb recorded his career best finish of fifth in the most recent ARS event at Kansas Speedway last week.

Further information and driving opportunities with Win-Tron Racing is available by visiting win-tronracing.com or contacting Nate Thiesse at 952.469.1839.

“Scores Season Ending Victory For ASM Motorsports”

Dover, DE (September 26, 2009): Brett Moffitt used lapped traffic to take the lead for the fourth and final time in the Sunoco 150 at Dover International Speedway Friday evening and convincingly score his second win of the 2009 NASCAR Camping World Series East season. Moffitt, behind the wheel of the No. 44 Red Line Oil Chevrolet, took the checkers two-and-a-half seconds over Ryan Gifford. The finish catapulted Moffitt and Andy Santerre Motorsports into third in the final point standings.

“The Red Line Oil car was just really good,” said Moffitt. “This is amazing with all these Cup guys here. This track is always talked about as that crazy place so it’s really cool to win here.”

Moffitt started the race from the fourth position after posting a qualifying lap of 23.569 seconds (152.743 mph) earlier in the day. At the drop of the green, Moffitt was on a tear. He dropped to the bottom groove and easily drove into third before challenging Eddie MacDonald for second. After passing him on lap three, Moffitt set his sights on then-leader Matt DiBenedetto, who had already pulled away by nearly half a straightaway. Moffitt closed in to five carlengths on the leader when the caution flew at lap 13.

When racing resumed at lap 16, Moffitt blew by DiBenedetto to take the lead. Caution flew immediately for a blown engine further back in the field, but Moffitt was able to repeat his earlier performance on the restart at lap 18. Moffitt continued to lead until a restart at lap 18 saw DiBenedetto take the lead.

Moffitt stayed glued to DiBenedetto’s bumper over the next several laps, and made a challenge on lap 39 for the position. Lapped traffic forced Moffitt to back out of it, but on lap 40, Moffitt repeated the challenge and took the lead for the second time.

A caution at lap 47 saw some cars opt to pit, but Moffitt elected to keep the No. 44 Red Line Oil Chevrolet out on track. They went back to green flag racing at lap 51 with Moffitt and DiBenedetto side by side heading into turn one. Coming out of turn two, Moffitt comfortably took the lead and remained there for the next 30 laps. Moffitt gave up the lead on lap 82 to come in for fuel and tires.

Moffitt took the green at lap 86 in sixth place. A caution period slowed his progress, but Moffitt was up to fourth for the restart at lap 97. The 17-year-old driver showed a lot of maturity as he patiently waited for things to settle up front before really making the push back to the front. By lap 110 Moffitt was in second place and chasing then-leader Ryan Gifford down. Lapped traffic worked to Moffitt’s advantage and he was able to take the lead for the final time on lap 116.

“I was catching him and the car was a little bit too tight. We caught those lapped cars and I used them. Ryan was able to hang with me for a little while, but as soon as we got into clean air I was able to go. My car was awesome,” he said.

Only six cars remained on the lead lap when Moffitt took the checkers.

The Sunoco 150 at Dover International Speedway marked the final race for Andy Santerre Motorsports, who sold off the team to the 909 Group last week. The race also marked the last time car owner Andy Santerre and driver Brett Moffitt would work together.

“This is our last race together unless we go to the Showdown. I really wanted Brett to win here. The kid has a bright future and I’m glad we could be a part of it,” said car owner Andy Santerre. “I wish him the best of luck. He and his Dad are great people and we’ve had a good relationship this year. I’m moving on to different things and I wish them the best. To end the ASM era here at Dover with a win is pretty awesome.”

Loudon, NH (September 20, 2009): Brett Moffitt was quiet and unassuming following the Heluva Good! Fall 125 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Friday evening, but his smile said it all.

Moffitt drove the No. 44 Brettmoffitt.com Chevrolet to a convincing runner-up finish in the second to last NASCAR Camping World Series East race of the 2009 season, and heads into the finale at Dover International Speedway fifth in the point standings.

“The 71 had a good car. We were a little bit better, and I think if that last caution hadn’t come out we would have won,” Moffitt said. “We had a really good car today so I have to thank all the guys on the crew and at ASM for that. We came in (to pit) before most people so that put us pretty far back in the field. We just had to stay out of trouble coming up through. Those last few laps were pretty wild from my vantage point so I’m sure it was a good show for the fans.”

Rain delayed the start of the race, and forced NASCAR to cut back on its scheduled distance due to time constraints, but Moffitt was strong right out of the box. Moffitt moved up from his third starting position to second and remained there until lap 15 when he pitted for fuel.

Moffitt lined up tenth for the restart at lap 18 and quickly moved through the field. He reached eighth by lap 22 and was challenging Derek Ramstrom for fourth by the 29th circuit. A caution slowed his pace and gave him an opportunity to come back down pit road for an adjustment.

Moffitt lined up ninth for the restart at lap 35, but the Grimes, Iowa-native didn’t have any chance to advance when caution slowed the pace of the event once again. He lined up ninth for the restart at lap 46. Moffitt had the chance to advance once again and moved up to sixth by lap 63, and was back in the top-five by lap 70.

The racing got intense around lap 85 when the leaders were three wide heading into the corners – fighting for every bit of real estate. On lap 86, Moffitt used the battles to his advantage and moved up to third just before the caution came out.

The drivers paced one more caution period when NASCAR announced that the final restart would be the only chance at a green-white-checker finish. They would have to shorten the race again to 99 laps because of the darkness that was descending over the track. Moffitt could not stop eventual race-winner Eddie MacDonald from taking the lead and settled for a second place finish at the checkers.

“We’re definitely happy with this finish,” said Moffitt. “We would have liked to win tonight, but Eddie (MacDonald) has been running really well lately so we can’t be too down about finishing second to him.”

Moffitt heads to Dover International Speedway for the Sunoco 150, the series season-ending finale, on Friday, September 25th.

Harrisburg, N.C. (September 12, 2009): After competing in both the NASCAR Camping World Series West race at Iowa and the IMCA Super Nationals this weekend, Brett Moffitt is ready to shift his focus back to the series point lead in the NASCAR Camping World Series East. Moffitt is currently sixth in the point standings – 147 points behind current leader Ryan Truex – as Andy Santerre Motorsports heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the Heluva Good Fall 125.

“There are only two races left so if we run strong here at New Hampshire we still have a shot. We’re 147 back from Ryan, but we’re only 97 points out of second. A good finish at NHMS can really shake things up a bit,” said Moffitt, who drives the No. 44 Andy Santerre Motorsports Chevrolet’s.

Moffitt will be looking for redemption of sorts when they return to New Hampshire. In June, Moffitt was running third when his tire blew and sent him into the wall in turn four. The team had to park the car for the day after running only 39 laps.

“We ran down the leaders and we were looking to pass them when he blew the tire,” said car owner Andy Santerre. “We were a little too aggressive on the setup. We were trying to run a radial tire setup on a bias ply tire, and at Loudon you have to be careful on how much camber you run or it’ll overheat the sidewall. When we went to that West race a week ago we learned a lot about the tires and what they will take and what they won’t. If we can get a happy medium where we get close on speed but not overdo it on the set up we’ll be good.”

With Dover following the week after, Santerre has decided to be conservative and bring their short track car to New Hampshire. They didn’t want to take the chance of wrecking their superspeedway car with the last race on the line.

But conservative doesn’t mean giving up being competitive.

Moffitt is confident heading into this week’s event and doesn’t feel threatened by the challenge he faces to finish the season off in the top-three. His one win, four top-five, and seven top-10 finishes speak for themselves.

“There’s a lot of pressure on people right now to go out there and perform because it’s the last two races, but we put that pressure on ourselves every week,” said Moffitt. “We’re going there to win just like we do in May and in July and in September. The pressure is really all on Ryan (Truex) because the point lead is his to lose.”

The NASCAR Camping World Series East arrives at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Thursday, September 17th for practice and qualifying and will take the green flag for the Heluva Good! Fall 125 on Friday, September 18th at 5 p.m. eastern time.

Harrisburg, N.C. (August 31, 2009): Andy Santerre Motorsports together with driver Brett Moffitt have announced that they will compete in this weekend’s Central Iowa Building and Construction Trades 125 at Iowa Speedway, a NASCAR Camping World Series West event. Moffitt will be driving the No. 4 Chevrolet sponsored by Karl Chevrolet. This will be Moffitt’s third start at the track closest to his Grimes, Iowa hometown.

“We’re really excited to be heading back to Iowa Speedway,” said Moffitt. “The last time we were there we had a really competitive car, but we got tight in the last 20 laps or so and finished sixth. I know we can go there and run good so I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll have my friends and family there, and I really think that Iowa is one of the best tracks I’ve gone to with the Camping World Series. I can’t think of a better place to give them a win!”

Moffitt is currently sixth in the NASCAR Camping World Series East point standings with one win, four top-five, and seven top-10 finishes. Only 14 points separate him from the fourth and fifth place drivers as the series comes to its final two-race stretch that kicks off at New Hampshire Motor Speedway later this month. The extra seat time at Iowa should be an advantage for the 17-year-old driver.

“Our last two races are on tracks a mile or bigger,” said Moffitt. “Iowa isn’t quite a mile, but its close enough. The seat time is what’s important. When you’re on track you get a momentum, you get better. We’re still within striking distance of the championship in the East Series so anything I can do to get closer to that, I will.”

Moffitt has cemented a reputation as a go-getter in the NASCAR Camping World Series East. He’s earned a place in the record books as the youngest driver in series history to win a pole, win a race, and lead the series point standings. But this weekend will mark his debut in a West Series stand-alone event.

“I raced with these guys back at the combination race with the East Series in May,” said Moffitt. “Everyone I raced with was clean, and I raced them clean. There are some talented drivers in the field and I look forward to racing with them again.”

The Central Iowa Building and Construction Trades 125 takes place under the lights with an 8 p.m. start time on Friday, September 4th.

Lakeville, CT (August 16, 2009): Brett Moffitt was on his way to a podium finish at Lime Rock Park’s Mohegan Sun 200 Saturday afternoon when he went off course on a late-race restart and was relegated back to tenth place for the final laps of the NASCAR Camping World Series East race. Moffitt rallied on the final green-white-checkered start to post an eighth place finish – his seventh of the season.

“We had a really good car and really good pit stops,” said Moffitt. “I was just a little too aggressive on that last restart and just lost it. Overall, the guys were great and put in a tremendous effort all weekend long.”

Moffitt got a quick lesson in how tricky Lime Rock Park can be when he hit the tire barrier in the first practice session Friday afternoon. ASM crew members quickly went to work on repairing the damage and had the 17-year-old driver back out on the track for the second practice session an hour later. Moffitt turned the seventh fastest time in practice, and then backed it up with a qualifying effort of 54.541 seconds to earn a fourth place starting position.

Moffitt held the No. 44 Castle Chemicals Chevrolet in the fourth position through the first turn, but dropped back to fifth when the No. 12 of Jesus Hernandez got by him on lap eight. A full course caution tightened the field back up for a restart at lap 14 where Moffitt was able to regain his position in the top four.

A cycle of green flag pit stops began at lap 19 when then-leader Matt DiBenedetto came down pit road. Moffitt followed at lap 21 for a quick gas and go. When pit stops were done at lap 30, Moffitt was running second to DiBenedetto.

The green flag run continued for a lengthy 57 laps with Moffitt holding strong in second through most of that. Like DiBenedetto, however, another fuel stop was in order. The duo came in at lap 62 during green flag conditions. Moffitt reentered the race in fifth and was intent on making his way back up to the front.

Caution flew at lap 70 tightening the field up for a restart at lap 76. Moffitt took the green in fourth, but went off course in big bend. Moffitt was able to reenter the race, but now he was back to tenth.

The caution period extended the race to allow for a green-white-checker, where Moffitt was able to gain two spots before the checkers flew.

Harrisburg, N.C. (August 10, 2009): Prior to the 2009 season, Brett Moffitt had never been on a road course before. But after a little advice from his car owner Andy Santerre and some training at the Bondurant Racing School, the talented young ace was able to pull off a third place finish at Watkins Glen earlier this year. The series returns to road courses this week as they embark on Lime Rock Park for the running of the Mohegan Sun 200, and Moffitt, who recently celebrated his 17th birthday, expects no less than a podium finish.

“We’re going there to win,” said Moffitt. “I enjoy running on the road courses and we ran pretty good at Watkins Glen so I feel comfortable going into this race.”

Moffitt is vying for the 2009 Rookie-of-the-Year Award, and has done remarkably well in his debut season. He’s posted a record-setting win at South Boston Speedway to become the youngest driver ever to win in the Camping World East, and has posted four top-five and six top-10 finishes in only eight starts. His two worst finishes – 23rd at Tri-County and 27th at New Hampshire Motor Speedway – were the result of an accident and a flat tire respectively.

Even in the face of adversity, Moffitt has a knack for compensating on the racetrack to wheel his way into the top-10. It’s an attribute that makes champions, and one that Moffitt hopes will edge him closer to the point lead this weekend. Currently, Moffitt and his ASM race team are 100 points out of the lead in sixth place.

“I think Lime Rock will be very important in the championship,” said Moffitt. “Right now, there are six of us that have a shot at the title. Each week, some of those drivers are going to get further and further out of it. I don’t want to be that driver. I want to be right there in the hunt and a good finish at Lime Rock will put us closer to that. Lime Rock will attract a talented field, but we’ll be ready for them.”

Moffitt will be driving the same car this weekend that he drove to a third place finish at Watkins Glen earlier this year. Confident he’ll have a set-up to win, Moffitt is hoping to translate the success he had at Watkins Glen into a victory at Lime Rock.

“Brett has proven he can drive on a road course,” said Santerre. “We’ve had a couple of things happen in the last couple of weeks that he had to fight through. At Thompson we had a motor issue and we fought through an issue with the distributor at Adirondack for part of the day. Now that those things are behind us we’re ready to go. There’s no doubt in my mind that Brett has the potential to win this race. He’s a very smooth, patient driver and that’s what it’s going to take.”

The Mohegan Sun 200 kicks off Friday, August 14th at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut with qualifying and concludes on Saturday, August 15th with the 82-lap race at 1 p.m. eastern time.

New Bremen, NY (August 2, 2009): Brett Moffitt got a quick lesson in the ups and downs that short track racing can be infamous for at Adirondack International Speedway Saturday night.

The 16-year-old Andy Santerre Motorsports driver overcame a mechanical issue in practice Saturday afternoon, recovered to qualify his No. 44 Chevrolet second fastest, led the NASCAR Camping World Series East’s Edge Hotel 150, but was relegated to an eighth place finish in the closing laps of the event.

The top-10 finish was his sixth of the season in only eight starts.

“He’s a little dejected right now,” said Andy Santerre after the race. “He did a good job. He was patient, but there were so many cars that were so even. The top seven or eight cars were under a blanket.”

The team only got a couple of laps of practice in on the first afternoon session after they were forced to contend with a mechanical issue that mirrored that of the one they had at Thompson International Speedway. Santerre discovered it was an issue with the distributor cap and the team went to work on getting it fixed. By the second practice session, Moffitt was back in his groove and back on top of the speed charts. He qualified second fastest in time trials and was confident for a solid run in the feature event.

“We tried plugs and wires. We had the same problem at Thompson and we took the engine to our engine guy and he had told us it was a spark plug. We fixed it and tried it out at the shop and everything was fine. We got the car here and it wouldn’t run,” explained Santerre. “We tried a bunch of stuff trying to find out what it was so that hurt us.”

At the drop of the green, Moffitt, starting from the outside groove, lost his position to Matt Kobyluck. He settled into third and the trio pulled away from the rest of the field by two seconds.

Just prior to the halfway mark, Kobyluck made a mistake that Moffitt capitalized on. Kobyluck went a little high giving the 16 year old the opportunity to take the bottom groove and drive by for second.

Moffitt closed in on then-leader Eddie MacDonald and rode his bumper for the next several laps. At lap 80, MacDonald got a little high and Moffitt challenged on the inside. MacDonald wasn’t about to give up easily and the two went side-by-side with Moffitt just up to his door. It was lapped traffic, however, that forced Moffitt to back off on the challenge.

Caution flew at lap 88 and put Moffitt side-by-side with MacDonald for the restart at lap 93. Moffitt beat him to the line and officially led the lap, but fell back to fourth before the field reached turn one.

“I left them too much room going into turn one,” said Moffitt. “I was up in the rubber and the car wouldn’t turn.”

Moffitt settled into fifth by lap 96, and took fourth away from Kobyluck just before a caution at lap 125. Moffitt would be on the outside for the restart once again. When they went back to green at lap 131, Moffitt dropped back further in the field.

“We got shuffled to the back. If you get out of the groove by a foot you are done,” Moffitt said.

Moffitt was eighth for the final restart with five laps remaining – exactly where he took the checkers.

Andy Santerre Motorsports will return to action in two weeks at Lime Rock Park. Moffitt is currently sixth in the NASCAR Camping World Series East point standings.

Harrisburg, N.C. (July 28, 2009): Brett Moffitt has spent the last several weeks uncertain about his future in the NASCAR Camping World Series East, but despite the lack of sponsorship, Moffitt will continue on to the Edge Hotel 150 at Adirondack International Speedway with ASM Motorsports this weekend. While the uncertainty lingers on, Moffitt will attempt to add another win to his resume by mastering the tricky 9/10th’s mile.

“We’ve got a good shot at being successful in this series – meaning we can win the championship. We’ve proven our success with our performances and our win,” said Moffitt. “Right now we’re doing everything we can to find a marketing partner, but we’re only set as far as this race. I don’t know what the future holds for us after that. I wish I did.”

Winning is important – not just when you’re searching for a sponsor. Winning, after all, is why Moffitt does this. He’s quiet, but extremely competitive. He’s fan-friendly off the track and aggressive on it. Adirondack, he’s told, will be a challenge, and he’s ready to rise to the occasion.

“I haven’t been to Adirondack, but everyone keeps telling me how important a rhythm is there,” said Moffitt. “I think we’ll be good. We just have to worry about our own race and be there at the end.”

The visit to Adirondack International Speedway will be the series eighth visit to the track, and Andy Santerre Motorsports is banking on their previous success coupled with Moffitt’s natural ability behind the wheel to help them achieve their goal of victory lane. In seven events, the team has posted two wins, six top-five, and seven top-10 finishes at Adirondack. Santerre won the inaugural edition of the race in 2002 and his development driver, Sean Caisse, won in 2006.

“I have some of the best people in the business surrounding me,” said Moffitt. “I have 100 percent confidence in the car and the team. I know when I get there I’ll have a car that is capable of winning that race.”

The Edge Hotel 150 takes place Saturday, August 1st at Adirondack International Speedway in Lowville, N.Y. The green flag is slated to drop at 6:30 p.m.

Thompson, Conn. (July 12, 2009): Engine woes have not been a problem in the past at Andy Santerre Motorsports. But Saturday night, one small engine skip that they thought had been resolved stretched into a race-long issue for driver Brett Moffitt and the team. The teams perseverance and determination to finish the race paid off big dividends when they posted a top-10 finish in the Pepsi Full Fender Frenzy 100 at Thompson International Speedway.

“We went out in the first practice and had a skip,” explained car owner Andy Santerre. “We changed the plugs, went back out, and everything was fine. After qualifying we never got to try it again. We changed the battery, we changed plug wires, and everything during the race. We just don’t know what it is. This is the first engine problem I’ve had with the spec motor.”

Sixteen year old Moffitt set a fast time 20.665 seconds (108.880 mph) in qualifying despite spinning on his second lap. It was good enough to earn the tenth place starting position in the 100-lap race.

“I hit those bumps coming out of turn,” Moffitt said about the spin. “It just went around on me. I didn’t hit anything we basically just lost that second lap.”

Moffitt knew he had a good car underneath him and was confident for the race, but after the drop of the green, Moffitt was only able to maintain his position. The team opted to pit on the first caution at lap 12.

“We were way faster than everyone through the corner, but we’d lose it all on the straights. The motor just wasn’t running right.”

Moffitt pitted three more times before the halfway mark, but started to advance through the field following a lap 55 restart. The issue had not been resolved, but the team decided they would have to try and work through it.

“Once we knew we couldn’t fix it we decided it was time to see how high up we could get,” said Moffitt. “We wanted to get everything we could.”

Moffitt took the checkers with a tenth place finish on the lead lap. He is fifth in the NASCAR Camping World Series East point standings with one win, four top-five, and five top-10 finishes in only seven starts.
