Illinois State Fairgrounds Recap: Patrick Sheltra was in familiar territory last weekend at the Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield) and it showed. Sheltra making his third start at the Springfield, Illinois dirt track qualified an impressive fourth and rallied from a gas-only stop to hold off a pack of hungry voulchers to cross the start-finish line third tying the his previous best effort in the Allen Crowe 100 in 2007. Sheltra’s performance was his fourth top-five effort of the year.

Welcome Back To The Windy City: Patrick Sheltra returns to the Windy City looking to make his fourth career start at the Chicagoland Speedway. Sheltra is in search of collecting his first career top-10 finish at the aggressive cookie-cutter track. Chicagoland Speedway holds the spot of Sheltra’s inaugural ARCA RE/MAX Series debut in 2005 driving a second entry for Clements Racing. After qualifying an impressive 21st, clutch problems sidelined Sheltra. His best finish in three previous starts at Chicagoland Speedway was 13th in 2007.

Buffalo Wings & Rings Product Spotlight; Sauces: For any of your Buffalo Wings & Rings meals, if you’re a sauce lover – you’ve come to the right place. Buffalo Wings & Rings offers 10 different sauces at five different heat levels which is sure to leave you breathless. Currently, Buffalo Wings & Rings offers original, sweet bbq, teriyaki, roasted garlic, lemon pepper, ragin’ cajun, crazy, garlic parmesan, sweet and sour and the newest addition of jamaican jerk sauce.

Testing, Testing 1.2.3.: To prepare the team for the 15th event on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule, Sheltra Motorsports participated in the open ARCA RE/MAX Series test at Chicagoland Speedway last Wednesday. Sheltra’s driving coach and 2005 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Champion Ted Musgrave also spent some time at the wheel looking to dial in the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge Charger with the intentions of soaring the third-year ARCA team to victory lane for the second time this season.

The Coach Still Coaching: Former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion Ted Musgrave will continue to serve as the driving coach for the 23-year old Sheltra this weekend and the remainder of the 2009 racing season. Musgrave, a native of Franklin, Wisconsin has over 18 years of experience combined between the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS).

NASCAR Nationwide Series Plans To Be Announced Soon: Sheltra Motorsports will announce their plans for the remainder of the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) season in the near future. Sheltra made his third career NNS start and first of the season last month at Daytona International Speedway driving the No. 81 D.H. Griffin-Quality Turf Dodge Charger for MacDonald Motorsports.

This is the same piece the team raced to a sixth and ninth place finish at Kentucky Speedway this year. This car has also had track time at Michigan International Speedway, Nashville Superspeedway and Chicagoland Speedway last season. The former Penske Racing ride has four top-10 finishes including a best of sixth at Michigan (2008) and Kentucky (2009) in five starts. It will be run for just the sixth time in Sheltra’s career. Chassis number 16 will serve as the team’s back-up automobile. That former Richard Childress Racing entry is a new addition to the team’s fleet. The Whitesville, Kentucky based team tested this Dodge Charger at Michigan International Speedway in May. It has yet to see any ARCA race competition.

Points Check: After round 14 on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule, Patrick Sheltra sits eighth in the championship standings accumulating 2770 points. Just 120 points separate Sheltra from the fourth position. The Indiantown, Florida native is 655 markers from the top-spot. Car owner Grace Sheltra sits ninth in the car owner standings.

Patrick Sheltra ARCA Career At-A-Glance: Entering Chicagoland, Sheltra has 60 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with one career victory at Salem Speedway (April 2009). During his ARCA tenure, Sheltra has accumulated 10 top-fives and posted 20 top-10 finishes. A third place qualifying effort at Rockingham Speedway (April 2009) is Sheltra’s best time trials efforts to date. He has controlled the ARCA field five times for 109 laps.

Keeping The Streak Alive: For 37 consecutive races, Sheltra Motorsports has fielded a car for Patrick Sheltra that run in the top-10 (at one point or another) for all events reverting back to the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX 250 at Talladega Superspeedway. The team added their 37th race at the Illinois State Fairgrounds by finishing third in last Sunday’s Allen Crowe 100. During this period, the team has amassed one win, eight top-fives and 16 top-10 finishes. The team’s best qualifying effort occurred at Rockingham Speedway in April where Sheltra awarded himself with a career best run of third. The team has led five races at Cayuga Motor Speedway (2008), Kansas Speedway (2008), Rockingham Speedway (2009), Salem Speedway (2009) and Talladega Superspeedway (2008) for a total of 109 laps.

On Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield): “The finish was exactly what this team needed. We had a good car from the start of practice. We kept adjusting on it and it was even faster for qualifying. We got hit by a spinning car early in the race but we were able to recover and work our way back up to the top-five. Everyone around us and most of the top-10 had new tires, so I was proud of what we accomplished by just taking a fuel only stop.”

On Chicagoland Speedway: “Chicagoland Speedway is a fast track. It’s similar to Kansas Speedway and Kentucky Speedway but all of these mile-and-a-half tracks stand out for each other in some way, shape or form. I’ve always run well there, I just need a finish to show for it.”

On The Open ARCA RE/MAX Series Test: “The test was pretty decent. We worked a lot on the car and we were able to make it a lot better. I appreciate Ted (Musgrave) flying up for the test and assisting us. We weren’t showing everything we had and the guys have made even more changes back at the shop, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it’s all going to lay out.”

On The Key To Winning At Chicagoland: “Luck, horsepower and fuel mileage. If you have to have luck at Chicagoland Speedway because you can find yourself in trouble there quickly. Motor is important because it’s a fast track. You need to be able to have the speed on the frontstretch and backstretch to be able to setup your competition for impending pass(es). Last but not least, you can never count out fuel mileage at a place like this. Kentucky last year we saw a bunch of teams run out of fuel and it very well could happen here. We’ll just keep focused on all that and maybe more and we should roll out with another good finish.”

On The Points Gain: “Springfield was a good race for us, especially point’s wise. We did everything we needed to do and more. We know that our chances of probably winning the championship are out the window but there are still placements inside the top-five that are up for grabs. We just need to keep busting off performances like we did at Springfield and we should be sitting comfortably in top-five come year’s end.”

Sheltra Motorsports, Chicagoland Speedway Pre-Race Quotes: Grace Sheltra, owner of the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge Charger:

On Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield): “Springfield is exactly what we needed to put this team back on the map. Patrick and the team were confident about Springfield early last week and it showed on Sunday. The guys just did a great job. I know that when they go to DuQuoin in a couple weeks, they’ll be looking to cap off the dirt races in victory lane.”

On Chicagoland: “It’s the track of Patrick’s ARCA RE/MAX Series debut in 2005 so it has some sentimental value to us. He’s never been able to get the finishes he deserves but it isn’t from the lack of trying. We feel from what we learned from the test last weekend and Patrick’s confidence roll right now we should be in-store for another strong run on Friday afternoon.”

On The Points Gain: “To shave off 120 points in one race between four competitors is huge. It’s what we needed to put us back in the hunt for finishing in the top-five. We knew that Springfield and DuQuoin could be our biggest chances to gain some ground and we took full advantage of that last Sunday. Chicagoland is another opportunity, so we just need to use our head and make sure we’re around for the end when it counts the most.”

JOLIET, Illinois (August 26, 2009) – - After a nearly four year absence from ARCA RE/MAX Series competition, Bowling Green, Kentucky native Stuart Kirby will return to the limelight and attempt to make the Ansell Cut Protection 150 at Chicagoland Speedway behind the wheel of the No. 66 Hendren Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS.

Kirby, no stranger to success in the ARCA RE/MAX Series is looking to make his presence known in this one-off deal that could spark into more should the event play into the hands of the long-time ARCA team Friday afternoon.

In order for Kirby to get back in the saddle, the team tested at the 1.5-mile track last Wednesday with satisfactory results. While Kirby feels the team will be competitive for the 15th race of the year, he offered some major changes to the team’s automobile in order to find more speed.

Kirby is no slouch when it comes to speed at the Chicagoland Speedway. In 2005, Kirby won the ARCA pole in an entry fielded by Bob Schacht Motorsports but a mechanical failure on the first lap evaporated the team from competition which leaves a little redemption on the table for the former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) competitor.

“The test went pretty good,” Kirby said. “We didn’t waste a single minute of time. The biggest obstacle we faced was the tightness of the car. We worked throughout the day to get the car a little freer but it wasn’t quite enough. I’m not worried though; we should be okay.”

If the successful entrepreneur is worried about qualifying for the show; he isn’t showing it. “I would by lying if I said I wasn’t worried,” said Kirby. “I’m not worried about making the field; I’m just worried about something going wrong like blowing a tire or something out of control that could keep us from making the rest. But if you worry about stuff like that you shouldn’t even be racing to begin with. We’ll mind our matters if you will for practice throttle hard for qualifying and leave nothing on the table for the race.”

Chicagoland will also be a reunion of sorts for Kirby and Crew Chief Walter Giles. Giles called the shots when Kirby competed in the NSCS in 2005 driving the No. 51 Marathon American Spirit Motor Oil Chevrolet for owner Joe Auer.

“It was nice to hear a familiar person on the radio,” added Kirby. “Walter and I have worked together in the past; so he knows what I like in a racecar, so he’s going to do everything he can to give me the best racecar he can. I just want to thank him and the entire Hendren Motorsports operation for the opportunity.”

Currently, Kirby does not have any agreement to run any remaining ARCA RE/MAX Series events with the Hendren Motorsports team following Chicagoland Speedway but the former late model driver is hoping that will change.

“Right now Chicago is it,” Kirby sounded. “We don’t really have any sponsors for the car, so we’re hoping to go to Chicagoland and put forth everything we have. I would like to do Kansas Speedway and maybe Rockingham to wrap up the year and then we’ll see what develops for next year. One thing is for sure, we don’t plan to leave without making some kind of statement.”

In his 15 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts, Kirby has mounted six top-five finishes and posted eight top-10 runs. He has posted two career-best runner-up finishes at Lowe’s (N.C) Motor Speedway (’01) and Kansas Speedway (‘02) respectively. He has controlled the ARCA field five times for 39 laps.

The Ansell Cut Protection 150 is set for Friday, August 28 with live coverage on the SPEED channel and the ARCA Radio Network beginning at 5:30 p.m. local.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available for Friday’s race. For inquires, please visit StuartKirby.com or call 270-222-0785

Heffner return to the “Windy City” looking for a repeat of their Kentucky Speedway performance in Friday’s Ansell Cut Protection 150.

Guided by crew chief Howard Bixman, Heffner and the BCR Racing development bunch produced some very competitive laps during the eight hour test last Wednesday. Working with setup, shocks, springs and everything in-between, the Holly, Michigan based operation left the track confident about their fourth race of the year.

J.R. Heffner

“The test went real smooth,” said Heffner, a 2007 and 2008 Modified Champion. “Ever since Kentucky, the team’s morale has been incredibly high with everyone wanting to back up or better our run from Kentucky. Howard (Bixman) has really put a lot effort into this car and our team and I cannot wait to make him proud again.”

He continued, “We spent the day working on race runs and such. The car is real good and just as drivable as it was at Kentucky.”

The trip to the Joliet 1.5-mile oval will be a first for the Pittsfield, Massachusetts native. Shining into the spotlight with a sixth place career-best qualifying run at Kentucky in July, Heffner has a good vibe about his next challenge.

“I’ve never been here and that’s one of the main reasons we decided to come and test,” added Heffner. “I am glad we did. Howard (Bixman, Crew Chief and Driver Coach) has been here before, so he was very open about the do’s and don’ts. The more track time the better our times became. The place is a lot like Kentucky but a little different at the same time. It should be an exciting afternoon of racing on Friday.”

Another reason the team is feeling an extra jolt heading into round 15 of the ARCA RE/MAX Series season is the recent announcement and signing of a new sponsor aboard the team’s No. 74 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS.

Austin Powder will take the reins as one of the leading sponsors of the BCR team while also entering its first foray into the ARCA RE/MAX Series and stock car racing.

No. 74 Austin Powder Chevrolet Impala SS

Based in Cleveland, Ohio, Austin Powder is the second oldest manufacturing company in the Buckeye state. Today, the company manufacturers a full line of industrial explosives and accessories, and provide blasting services to customers throughout North America and around the world.

“We want to give Austin Powder a good showing on Friday afternoon. As a team we are appreciate of them stepping up and joining our race team. I know that patience will be our best friend on Friday but I think we’ll have a good car that should put us in the limelight for the second straight race.”

For Bixman, a long-time member of the ARCA community, he is looking forward to seeing Heffner continue to build momentum.

“J.R. surprises me every time he climbs behind the wheel,” Bixman stated. “He tries so hard and doesn’t leave anything on the table. He is learning to adapt to these stock cars quicker than some would have thought – but that’s balanced from his determination and the support of this team. Chicago here we come.”

Bixman also mentioned, “We didn’t make a qualifying run – we focused more on our race setup. We’re making some adjustments to the body and our shock package. We should pick up right where we left off.”

Following Chicagoland, J.R. plans to end his season with BCR in style at Kansas Speedway for the Kansas Lottery 150 set for October 1st. The team is committed on utilizing these final two races to gel together a solid development foundation for next year which is centered around running a full ARCA schedule.

A. Colarusso and Son, Park East Sales and Disposal Express will ride as co-primary sponsors in BCR Racing’s first ARCA trip to Chicagoland Speedway.

The Ansell Cut Protection 150 is set for Friday, August 28 with live coverage on the SPEED channel and the ARCA Radio Network beginning at 5:30 p.m. local.

ARCA RE/MAX Series Race No. 10, Prairie Meadows 200,

Iowa Speedway, Newton, Iowa

Race Information: Event: Prairie Meadows 200, Saturday, July 11 at 8:00 p.m. Local Time Track: Iowa Speedway Qualifying: Saturday, July 11 at 4:00 p.m. Local Time; Track Length: .875-mile paved-oval.

Mansfield Motorsports Recap: Veteran ARCA RE/MAX Series driver Patrick Sheltra suffered misfortune for the second consecutive ARCA RE/MAX Series at Mansfield Motorsports Park after being entangled in another competitor’s incident on lap one. The team was able to rebound and race competitively in the top-15 only to succumb to suspension failure 28 laps from the finish. The team finished 21st.

NASCAR Split: Between the most recent ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Mansfield Motorsports Park and the upcoming event at Iowa Speedway, Sheltra made his third career NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Daytona International Speedway last Friday night. After qualifying 27th, Sheltra drafted his No. 81 D.H. Griffin Companies-Quality Turf-Buffalo Wings & Rings-Indiantown Marina Dodge Charger to the top-15 with the leaders insight when contact from the No. 07 of Chase Austin sent Sheltra hard into the backstretch wall. The incident also collected Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Steven Wallace. He finished 41st.

Returning To The Hawkeye State: Indiantown, Florida native Patrick Sheltra will make his third start at the relatively new Iowa Speedway Saturday night. Sheltra made his inaugural debut at the .875-mile short track in 2007 where he qualified 15th and finished 20th. Last year, Sheltra started eighth and captured his first top-10 finish of the 2008 season by crossing the line ninth. Sheltra has been running at the finish of both events.

Happy Birthday Mama Grace: Car Owner and Patrick Sheltra’s mother Grace Sheltra celebrated her 53rd birthday on Wednesday. Grace Sheltra is one of several female owners in the ARCA RE/MAX Series and was the highest finishing female car owner in 2008. As one of the top-female car owners in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, she has one win, nine top-fives and 18 top-10 finishes to her credit.

In Memory of Matt Hawkins

Remembering A Friend And Racer: Patrick Sheltra and his Sheltra Motorsports team will remember and honor former ARCA RE/MAX Series driver and last year’s Iowa Speedway winner Matt Hawkins who died from an accidental gun discharge in February. Sheltra and Hawkins raced each other in several events last year including the Prairie Meadows 250 at Iowa Speedway. Sheltra Motorsports would like to thank the team’s graphic design company DMC Graphics (Philpot, Kentucky) for supplying the “In Memory of Matt Hawkins” decals for this weekend.

On Top Of His Game: To better prepare himself and his team for Saturday night’s Prairie Meadows 200, Patrick Sheltra and his Sheltra Motorsports team participated in an open test at Iowa Speedway last Tuesday. Sheltra and his posse spent seven hours familiarizing working on the handling of the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge Charger hoping to find the upper-hand that will better them for the 10th installment on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule.

Watcha Haulin?: Crew Chief John Hayden has elected to bring Sheltra chassis number 11 to Iowa Speedway this weekend. The primary machine will be the same Dodge that Sheltra wheeled to a podium finish of third at Pocono Raceway last month. The former Penske Racing automobile will be run for just the fourth time in Sheltra’s ARCA career.

Points Check: After round nine on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule, Patrick Sheltra sits eighth in the championship standings accumulating 1625 points. Just 130 points keeps Sheltra from the fifth position. Sheltra is 490 markers from the top-spot. Car owner Grace Sheltra sits 10th in the car owner standings.

The team added their 32nd race at Mansfield Motorsports Park despite the suspension failure. During this period, the team has amassed one win, seven top-fives and 13 top-10 finishes. The team’s best qualifying effort occurred at Rockingham Speedway in April where Sheltra awarded himself with a career best run of third. The team has led five races at Rockingham Speedway (2009), Salem Speedway (2009) Kansas Speedway (2008), Cayuga Motor Speedway (2008), and Talladega Superspeedway (2008), for a total of 109 laps.

Autographs Anyone?: After his duties at the track on Friday afternoon, Sheltra is TENATIVELY scheduled to spend his evening at the Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino (Altoona, Iowa) participating in an autograph session from 7:00pm to 8:00pm local time.

You Can Be Apart Of The Ultimate Hunting Experience: Sheltra Motorsports wants to give a race fan an ultimate opportunity to join Patrick Sheltra or Sheltra Motorsports dirt driver Shannon Babb a chance at a paramount moment to hunt with either driver at Patrick Sheltra’s hunting ranch in Dryden, Texas. The best part, all expenses paid! Race fans will have the entire ARCA season to enter the contest with the winner being announced in the ARCA RE/MAX Series finale at Rockingham Speedway in October.
This Is The People’s Car: In an effort to bring race fans closer to the Sheltra Motorsports team, the team is full throttle with their Peoples Car promotion. Race fans will have the opportunity to have their name plastered on the No. 60 for the rest of the ARCA RE/MAX Series season. In addition, each time a fan joins the People’s Car their name will be tossed into a drawing for an-all expensed paid trip (minus lodging expenses) to the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series season finale at Rockingham Speedway. The lucky fan will be an honorary member of the Sheltra Motorsports team plus enjoy a few little surprises the team has spiced up for the lucky winner.
On Mansfield Motorsports Park: “We just can’t seem to catch a break. We were entangled in a wreck in the first corner of lap one and unfortunately that set our tone for the night. We were able to rebound from that and fight our way into the top-10 but then something on the suspension broke and put us out of the race.”

On NASCAR Nationwide Series Race At Daytona: “First, I have to thank MacDonald Motorsports, D.H. Griffin, Quality Turf, Buffalo Wings & Rings and Indiantown Marina for allowing us to race at Daytona last weekend. There was no doubt about it that we had a good car and opportunity to finish in the top-10 but an inpatient driver hit us from behind and ruined a bunch of guy’s night. I was glad to be back in the Nationwide garage and I’m hoping to do more races later this season.”

On Car Owner and Mother’s Grace Sheltra Birthday This Week: “This ARCA program wouldn’t be active if it wasn’t for my mom. The guys on the team love her and care for her like a mom, so it’s one big family. A win on Saturday night might just be the biggest present she could ever receive.”

On Iowa Speedway: “It really is a nice place. The track provides some great racing and I’m even happier about racing back under the lights there. It should be a good night of hard short track racing. We’re going for our second win of the season and I hope we’re able to pull it off.”

On Matt Hawkins: “Matt Hawkins was a great racecar driver. We raced several times together last year and while we raced each other extremely hard, we never touched. He was a great competitor for the ARCA RE/MAX Series and we miss seeing his face at the track. We’re going to try and win the race this weekend for our marketing partners but also in honor of Matt as well.”

On The Point Standings: “We took a hit again but we are not sunk. Justin Allgaier came back last year from a huge defect; almost were we’re sitting and won the championship. It could happen for a second straight year. It’s not going to be easy and it will take a lot of hard work but with the devotion of this race team we’ve made the impossible happen.”

Sheltra Motorsports, Iowa Speedway: Grace Sheltra, owner of the

No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge Charger:

On Mansfield: “It was a tough race. We’ve been fast all year but we always seem to face different obstacles during the race. If we don’t we’re finishing in the top-five and winning. We think Mansfield was the last race with the hump on our back.”

On Iowa: “It’s a great place for a racetrack. It’s practically in the middle of nowhere but fans arrive at that place in droves. The track reminds me a lot of Richmond International Raceway. Patrick and the team had a good test there last week, so hopefully we can keep going in the right direction and get that second win on Saturday night.”

On NASCAR Nationwide Series Race At Daytona: “No mistaking it, people knew that Patrick Sheltra was there. Not only because he was returning to the track for the first time since the accident in February but because he was driving a very clean and smart race. That was earning him the respect of guys like Carl Edwards, David Gilliland, Kevin Harvick, David Ragan, Kenny Wallace and so on. You can’t control an unjustified call from another driver but the bright picture is Patrick wasn’t hurt and we were running near the front when it happens. We’ll be back to race in the Nationwide Series again this year and we’ll make up for the Daytona finish for sure.”
