Children’s Charities has raised more than $260,000 to be granted to local children’s organizations at the annual Grant Distribution and Holiday Celebration at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Tuesday, Dec. 8

Atlanta’s chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities will award grants to 35 local charitable organizations serving the medical, emotional and social needs of children at the Grant Distribution and Holiday Celebration in Atlanta Motor Speedway’s infield Media Center on Dec. 8 at 6 p.m.

“We are thrilled to increase the number of organizations we can provide grants to after increasing our donation total from 2008,” said Shaun Birindelli, Atlanta SCC chapter director.

Atlanta’s SCC chapter will provide grants to 35 organizations in 2009, seven more than in 2008.

Representatives from the 35 local children’s organizations will attend SCC’s Grant Distribution and Holiday Celebration to accept their check. In addition, the event will feature pace car rides, children’s activities, cookie and ornament decorating and a surprise visit from Santa, who will make a trip to Atlanta from the North Pole just for this event.

Speedway Children’s Charities raised over $260,000 by utilizing a number of events, including Fast Talk presented by AutoTrader.com, 50/50 raffles held during Thursday Thunder and Friday Night Drags events, the SCC Track Walk, the Reed Sorenson Charity Golf Classic presented by AutoTrader.com, and the SCC Clay Shoot. In addition to fundraising events, Speedway Children’s Charities also received donations from individuals and corporations.

Founded in 1982 by Speedway Motorsports, Inc. chairman Bruton Smith, making a difference in a child’s life is the focus of Speedway Children’s Charities and the organization strives to do this in collaboration with the non-profit organizations they support nationwide.

Individually, SCC’s local chapters identify the needs of children in their communities and award grants to organizations that address them. SCC has eight chapters nationwide in markets where Speedway Motorsports, Inc. has NASCAR speedways.
