Johanna Long Wins Snowball Derby; Joins Tammy Jo Kirk As Female Winners In Late Model Race

Pensacola’s Johanna Long became only the second female winner of the Snowball Derby in the event’s 43-year history, holding off Landon Cassill of Charlotte, N.C., for the title in the country’s premier short-track race.

Long, 18, who just finished her rookie season on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, is the second female winner of the race. Tammy Jo Kirk was the first following her historic victory in 1994.

The win, surprisingly, was the first in 2010 for Long, who a year ago won the Blizzard Series championship at Five Flags Speedway and also captured the pole for the 42nd running of the Snowball Derby.
