MOORESVILLE, N.C. (February 7, 2012) – During the off-season, Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) announced an expansion into the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS). NNS veteran crew chief Brad Parrott will head the team of young drivers, Ryan Blaney, Ryan Truex and Bobby Santos, in an eight-race schedule for the No. 36 Chevrolet.

Parrott brings more than 20 years of knowledge to the rookie NNS program. The Charlotte, N.C., native has a plethora of experience in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) and NNS. He has worked as crew chief and car chief for many successful teams in both series, including Yates Racing, Earnhardt Ganassi Racing and Roush Fenway Racing. Parrott complied 18 wins as a NNS crew chief. He won the 1999 NSCS Championship as the car chief at Yates Racing, where he compiled 23 victories in his five-year tenure as Car Chief of the team.

“I’m glad to be a part of TBR,” Parrott said. “Tommy has a long history in the sport, as do I. We’ve both been to the top ranks of the NASCAR, as well as smaller teams. Now as a young team owner, I can relate to where his race team is going and look forward to many years ahead. I have been a crew chief in the Nationwide Series since 2002 and won 18 races. With the experience that I have, I look forward to bringing a young team with young drivers to the winner’s circle. I’m thrilled to work with Ryan Blaney, Ryan Truex and Bobby Santos, as well as our partners. 2012 will be very exciting for all involved.”

This season will mark TBR’s fourth season of competition. TBR began as a part-time, one-car NSCS team in 2009 and developed into a top-35 team by 2011. In 2012, TBR plans to compete with two NSCS teams and a part-time NASCAR Nationwide Series team. The team would like to increase the number of races in both the NSCS and NNS schedules, provided more sponsorship can be found.

“Brad has been in the sport for many years in many different positions,” explained Tommy Baldwin. “His variety of experiences will help us build the Nationwide team from the ground up, in addition to assisting with some of the Cup program. His strengths will complement a lot of areas we need help with. I look forward to working with him and growing our program.”

About Tommy Baldwin Racing:

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Crew Chief Tommy Baldwin formed Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) in 2009. Baldwin utilized a declining economy to open a NSCS team with a stringent budget. The team worked to build to full-time competition, and by the 2011 season, the team’s third season, TBR competed in every race and locked the No. 36 Chevrolet in the top-35 in NSCS Owner Points. Dave Blaney drove the No. 36 Chevrolet to TBR’s highest finish of third in the October 2011 event at Talladega Superspeedway. TBR also fielded a second car for select races in the past two seasons with multiple drivers.

Based in Mooresville, N.C., TBR will compete in the NSCS in 2012 with NASCAR veterans David Reutimann and Dave Blaney. The team will also compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with Ryan Blaney, Bobby Santos and Ryan Truex.

After a disappointing finish at Richmond International Raceway, the JD Motorsports team was looking to the toughest track on the schedule for some good luck and a great finish. With Wallace’s veteran skills, the team knew that they could place well in their home state as long as Wallace didn’t get a “Darlington Stripe.”

Mike Wallace was 23rd quickest in the only NASCAR Nationwide Series practice. He ran a lap time of 29.737 seconds at 165.370 MPH. Wallace took 38 treacherous laps around the 1.336 mile egg-shaped oval, and his 20th lap was his fastest.

“This is the same car that we have run for four weeks now,” Mike Wallace said. “We continue to work on the chassis, and the guys have made it drive really well here at Darlington. I’m pleasantly surprised on how well it drives. I probably under drove it earlier in practice, so I didn’t post that big lap speed when the tires were fresh.”

Qualifying was canceled due to a rain shower that hit the track roughly around 2:00 p.m. Mike Wallace started 23rd in the No. 01 G&K Services Chevrolet. During the first 44 laps, Wallace was in and out of the top 25 slowly making his way to the front. The team decided to stay out and not pit on a lap 47 caution. That moved the No. 01 G&K Services Chevrolet to the 14th position. It was a great call by veteran crew chief Brad Parrott, because that gave Wallace the edge to stay well within the top 20.

“The first part of the race was good,” Wallace said. “We worked on our car to run the bottom of the race track, and it did run the bottom well. We were going forward during the first part, and apparently we didn’t make enough adjustments at the end. We got loose, and I drove the car to the limit of what it was capable of, and it was loose. We got behind, but it was the best finish of the year, and we are appreciative of all of the work that everyone has done and all of the folks from G&K Services for their support.”

On lap 96, all mayhem broke loose on the backstretch. Wallace was able to avoid the spinning cars and flying debris of the multicar wreck. When the smoke cleared, Wallace was just outside of the top 10 in the 11th position.

“I was tucked up underneath the No. 51 coming off of turn two, and we knew there were some cars that stayed out on tires, and everyone just kind of jammed up,” Wallace said. “I have no idea what happened up there. Fortunately, I was able to stay off of the No. 51. I could see to the left side of him, and we just started slowing up. They aimed at us, but they didn’t get us. So it was all good.”

After the huge crash, the race went green from there, and Mike Wallace brought the car home in the 15th position. This was JD Motorsport’s best finish all year. Not too many teams get their best finish at the track “Too Tough to Tame.”

“It was a good night,” Owner Johnny Davis said. “We struggled with the first pit stop, but the boys bounced back and got the rest of them better. We are not where we need to be on pit stops just yet. The car was real loose in the end, and that’s what got us behind. We started off with a better car, but when it cooled down, the front tires got more grip, and the rear tires lost grip. We are working on it. A 15th place finish isn’t bad.”

Now the JD Motorsports team is off to Dover International Speedway for the 5-Hour Energy 200 on Saturday, May 14. In May of last year, the team finished 34th, but in September, the team finished inside the top 20 with a 19th place finish.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 9, 2011) – Mike Wallace knows what it takes to tackle the high-banked action at Daytona International Speedway, and he’s proven it before with three trips to Victory Lane.

Now, the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver for JD Motorsports just needs to take that winning knowledge of the 2.5-mile superspeedway and apply it to the newly-paved surface, while driving a newly-designed race car, with a new crew chief and a newly-structured points system. For a veteran like Wallace – that’s no problem.

This year marks the third season Wallace will pilot the No. 01 Chevrolet for JD Motorsports. After pairing together for the past two seasons, owner Johnny Davis brought in winning-crew chief Brad Parrott to lead the team’s on-track effort this season.

The new points system not only favors the fans by making it easier to add them up after a race, but the new NASCAR rule where a driver can only declare for championship points in one series favors that series’ regulars.

All these changes were just fine with Wallace, who has won in three different series at Daytona.

Track Facts for Wallace: In 21 NNS starts at the Daytona, Wallace has completed 2,154 of 2,376 laps (90.7 percent) earning one victory, two top-fives and four top-10 finishes. He’s also led 35 laps, with his victory coming in the 2004 July race by leading the only – and most important – one at the checkered flag. Wallace has also won a Camping World Truck Series (Feb. 2000) race and an ARCA event (1994) at Daytona.

Owner’s Points Ease Pressure: By finishing 25th in the 2010 NNS Owner’s Standings, Wallace won’t have to worry about qualifying for the first five races as the top 30 are good to go already.

Car Facts: JD Motorsports is bringing down the same car they used in the June 2010 race at Michigan International Speedway. After four races with the new car last year, the NNS will utilize the car in all races this season.

Mike Wallace quotes

About the new season and points system: “I am so ready for the 2011 season to start. We’ve been working on our cars in the shop and Brad Parrott has really done a great job in the short time he’s been with us at JD Motorsports. The new points are easier to add up for everyone when the race is over and I like how it’s structured. If you want to gain five more points, you have to pass five more cars, not two if you’re running in the mid-pack or one if you’re up front. By NASCAR making drivers declare for championship points in only one series, it gives teams like us a chance to have true Nationwide rankings. I like what they’ve done in that area.

Being in on Owner’s Points: “Let me tell you something about that deal. We came here in 2009 having to qualify in on time. There’s an enough pressure to start the season off right after working on your Daytona cars through a lot of the off season. To come down here and sweat it out to make the race is awful. Thank goodness we ended up where we did last year to know we’re good to go for the first five this season. We just need to concentrate on racing, which is a good thing.”

Key to Winning at Daytona: “I have been fortunate to win three races at Daytona. Each one is special because of the history of all the winners at this track. I feel we have just a good of a chance as anyone to get to Victory Lane here. That’s one thing about the draft – it’s the great equalizer. Everyone I’ve talked to who tested here already said the track is incredibly smooth and has great grip. Aside from the draft, you just need to race smart and be there at the end when they wave the checkered flag. New track, new cars, new crew chief – what more could a driver ask for to start a new season.

(January 29, 2011) – In an effort to build on their momentum from last year, JD Motorsports has signed veteran NASCAR Nationwide Series crew chief Brad Parrott for driver Mike Wallace and their No. 01 Chevrolet team.

Parrott will take over the running of the shop and pit box duties from team owner Davis. This will allow Davis to concentrate on the overall running of the team and alleviate him from overseeing every aspect of the car preparation during the week and at the track.

“This is the type of move I’ve been wanting to make for awhile,” Davis said. “After talking things over with Mike and the team, we all feel bringing someone like Brad on will help us get better on and off the track.

“His experience and past success is something we’re hoping to achieve again with him now at JD Motorsports. And, this will make us even more attractive to the potential primary and associate marketing partners we’ve been talking to – and still seeking – lately.”

This is also a reunion of sorts for the Wallace and Parrott families. In 1989, older brothers Todd Parrott and Rusty Wallace earned the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship and multiple victories together; through several seasons.

“I feel very good about making this move to JD Motorsports,” Parrott said. “This new car is something I have really spent a lot of time on and really done some great research to be ready for when someone came calling.

“Working with Mike is going to be great. He’s a good driver, knows what it takes to get better during practices and races, and will give you 100 percent every time out there. Having a Parrott and Wallace teamed up again is pretty cool, too. I can’t thank Johnny and Mike enough for giving me this chance.”

Wallace has four NNS victories to his credit and is looking forward to having Parrott on board with the team.

“This is a pretty great deal having Brad become part of our team as my crew chief,” said the middle of the three Wallace brothers. “I really have to give Johnny credit for doing this and giving up something he has been so great in doing to keep this team competitive.

“Brad can move in there, pick up right where we left off last year and bring some of his knowledge to the deal, too. We have our cars ready for the beginning of the season and I am very much looking forward to Daytona, and the rest of the season, this year.”

In his new role, Carter will oversee all competition efforts of the two-car NASCAR Nationwide Series operation.

A native of Raleigh, NC and graduate of North Carolina State University, Carter served as crew chief for Rusty Wallace’s No. 2 team at Penske Racing in 2004 and 2005. In that role, Carter led Wallace to his 55th—and final—career victory, as well as to a Chase appearance in Wallace’s final season as a driver.

Following Wallace’s retirement from driving, Carter was crew chief for Jamie McMurray at Roush Fenway Racing in 2007 and 2008 before serving in the same role for Paul Menard at Yates Racing last season. Carter was also recently rumored as a top candidate for the position of Sprint Cup Series director.

Said Larry Carter, “I’m both very excited and grateful to have this opportunity. This team has a lot of potential and I look forward to trying to help get them into Victory Lane. Rusty has put together a really solid infrastructure and I’m excited for the chance to take this team to the next level.”

In addition to the naming of Carter, team officials also announced that Brad Parrott, crew chief for No. 62—Brendan Gaughan, will be replaced beginning with next weekend’s round of the Nationwide Series championship in Dover, DE. An interim crew chief for the No. 62 team will be named within the next week and a new full-time replacement will be named for the start of the 2011 season.

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Kentucky Speedway – June 12, 2010

- Joey Logano won his third consecutive NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Kentucky Speedway after claiming the
2008 and 2009 victory.

- The 20-year-old started the race from the pole position and led 106 of 200 laps en route to victory lane.

- Camry drivers Brendan Gaughan (fourth), Reed Sorenson (fifth) and Steve Wallace (sixth) also earned top-10 finishes at the 1.5-mile oval.

- Other Toyota drivers in the field were Trevor Bayne (11th), Brad Coleman (13th), Brian Scott (31st), Jason Leffler (33rd), Michael Annett (34th) and Tayler Malsam (35th)

- Five Camry drivers are in the top-10 in the unofficial NNS point standings with Kyle Busch (fourth), Logano (seventh),
Wallace (eighth), Gaughan (ninth) and Leffler (10th). Bayne (12th), Sorenson (13th), Annett (14th) and Scott (15th) are
also in the top-20 after 14 of 35 races.

Finishing Position: 1st

What do you think about winning your third straight race at Kentucky?

“They definitely weren’t lying when they said it will feel that much better when you do win because this probably feels better than the other wins I’ve had here. This is awesome. I talked to Kevin (Kidd, crew chief) before we came out here at the shop on Tuesday and he said, ‘You better be prepared, we’re going to win this thing.’ I’ve been thinking that way too much this season and I haven’t won one. It feels great to finally be back in victory lane. We had a good Game Stop Toyota and a great team behind me to finally get one of these things. It’s cool for Kentucky. I would have never thought two for two and now three for three, poles and wins — that’s impressive. I’m pretty stoked about that right now.”

Were you worried by Carl Edwards gaining on you in the closing laps?

“(Carl Edwards) caught me so he was faster than me. That was the main reason. My car was pretty good. I don’t know how he was catching me. I felt like I was going pretty fast here and I was asking for as much information inside the car just to see where he was running, where he was beating me and what was going on. I heard he was running a little bit higher than me, so I moved up and tried to take the air away and force him to run the bottom or run behind me. That was the right move because when that happened I was able to pull back away a little bit. Once we got through the lap traffic we pulled away a little bit and that was enough for the win. That was pretty cool.”

Were you concerned with the weather that was coming into the area?

“We knew it was coming and the good thing is knowing that, I’ve gotten a couple wins taken away by a debris caution at the end of the race. I was convinced that we were going to the end. I was pretty pumped about that fact and running hard there to the end. Kevin (Kidd, crew chief) was talking about the weather coming in about a half hour away or so. I knew on every restart I was going to have to dig incase there was a caution to make sure I was in the front.”

Why are you so good at Kentucky?

“It’s cool. I guess hard work pays off. I used to come here about once every three weeks when we were testing all the time here. I had a million laps around this place. I said if I ever got to race here I am going to be pretty good. One day I got to race here and it’s worked out pretty good for me so far. I guess hard work pays off in this situation.”

Did you think you had the car to win at the beginning of the race?

“I wasn’t happy at all last night. When I left, I said I thought we were okay but I think there’s definitely a lot of room to be gained. Kevin (Kidd, crew chief) and the engineers did a good job going through their home work fixing the car. I laid down a heck of a lap for qualifying. The first lap on the race track, I was tight for the first lap of the race. I was like, ‘Oh boy, we’re tighter than what we were yesterday. We’re in trouble.’ Then the caution came out, we didn’t make a complete lap then it came into me. I was surprised that it was good. After the first lap, it definitely changed a lot. That’s something that we fought most of the race, our first lap wasn’t that fast and that’s what kind of gave up the lead a couple times. We were really good on the long run. The longer the run, the better we were. I was wishing we had green flag stops because this thing was on a rail once everyone started slowing down it seemed like we didn’t give up as much.”

KEVIN KIDD, crew chief, No. 20 Game Stop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What was your perspective of tonight’s race?

“It was a heart-felt battle for us. Obviously we led a lot of laps tonight. We were in contention for it all night but there were various times where a lot of competitors were coming up and challenging us. I think it was a testament really to Joey (Logano) and the race team that we’ve got here that kept us out front. We had great pit stops all day. We were out front when it counted and that’s what really got us to victory lane.”

Did you feel pressure coming into this race knowing Joey Logano’s record at Kentucky?

“It’s more confidence. Like Joey (Logano) said earlier, I believe it was Tuesday that I told him we were going to win the race. I had no doubt in my mind. This guy knows how to get around this place. When you come into that situation as a crew chief, and knowing that as long as we just do our job the way we should do it every week, we’re going to have a shot at it. That’s not really pressure, that’s just knowing that if you take care of business, you’re going to be in good shape.”

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 South Point Casino & Hotel Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 4th

How was your race tonight?

“We just slowly picked our way up. Brad (Parrott, crew chief) and the guys had great pit stops. Good calls on pit road and we made adjustments every stop. We had one set of tires that was a little iffy on us but we just kept gaining and gaining until we got towards the front. I love restarts, I’ve always said I credit Ron Hornaday for helping me on restarts. He taught me a lot.

I love them man, I wish I could have held it longer. Joey (Logano) is in a league of his own but I think our Toyota was pretty close. If I could have stayed out front but I was just trying to drive a second, third or fourth place car to first and I over drove turn three and four and put our Camry up and tried to have to send it to the Gibbs shop for a new body. Fortunately I held on to it. A couple guys went by. My spotter called me clear just in time and we came through and we were able to maintain and still
finished fourth for our Camry.”

REED SORENSON, No. 32 Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 5th

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 6th

TREVOR BAYNE, No. 99 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota Camry, Diamond-Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 11th

BRAD COLEMAN, No. 18 Sandvik Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 13th

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 AccuDoc Solutions Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 31st

JASON LEFFLER, No. 38 Great Clips Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 33rd

What happened on the race track?

“I was racing three-wide and as soon as the spotter called three-wide I was hit, spun out. I think Paul (Menard) was in the middle and it’s the last run, maybe rain is coming and nobody is going to lift. That’s what happens, I was just in a bad spot there and there’s not much I can do. It’s part of it, that’s racing, especially at the end of these deals — you got to go.”

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers Toyota Camry, Germain Racing

Finishing Position: 34th

TAYLER MALSAM, No. 10 Iron Horse Jeans Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 35th

What happened to take you out of the race?

“I just messed up, our Camry got aero tight getting into the corner. Took out myself and almost took out the 88 (Coleman
Pressley), so I apologize to those guys. We had a fast car and I was real proud of the guys. We’ll be good next week, though.”

After posting the third-fastest effort in Friday’s practice sessions, hopes were high in the 5-Hour Energy Racing camp for a pole-contending effort in Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session. What transpired however, was an extreme loose condition—caused by blistering hot afternoon track temperatures—that eventually forced Wallace and his team to start the race from the 34th-position.

At the drop of the green flag however, the young wheelman took no prisoners in a valiant early-race charge that earned him more than 20 positions in the race’s opening ten laps. From there, Wallace fought his way into the top ten by lap 75 and into the top-five by lap 90, where he remained for much of the race. He would eventually spend nearly 95% of the race’s 225 laps among the top-15.

Over the final 25 laps of the event, Wallace valiantly fought off advances from Richard Childress Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing entries, on his way to an eighth-place finish, his fifth top-ten of 2010.

Wallace’s effort marked his third top-ten finish in the last four races at Nashville Superspeedway and catapulted him three spots forward to a ninth place ranking in the 2010 Nationwide Series driver standings. He currently sits a mere 25 points behind Jason Leffler for seventh-place.

Said Wallace, “We had a pretty good 5-Hour Energy Camry for most of the night; luckily, we were able to get out of our hole from qualifying pretty quickly. At the beginning of the race, our car was just too loose and by the end, once the track cooled down, it was too tight; we were just a little bit behind on our adjustments at the end of the race.

“Our pit crew was bulletproof again tonight and they really helped us keep good track position throughout the race. All in all, it was a good night, but just not as good as we want. We’re going to keep working hard to make our cars faster and hopefully get a shot at winning one of these things before the year is over.”

A pleasant surprise for the Rusty Wallace Racing effort this evening came in the strong performance of Brendan Gaughan (No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Toyota Camry).

After the No. 62 team posted only the 29th-fastest speed in Friday’s final practice, the RWR squad knew there was some work to be done before qualifying. As a result, both RWR crew chiefs and team engineers met early Saturday morning to collaborate on a revised setup for Gaughan’s No. 62.

The results of that meeting spawned much improvement, with a 14th-place qualifying run for the No. 62 and even better, one of the race’s strongest cars.

Following his 14th-place start, Gaughan held his own through the first one-third of the event, remaining strongly among the top-15. After the first round of pit stops however, the No. 62 began coming to life, with Gaughan cracking the top-ten by lap 90.

Following some heads-up pit strategy by crew chief Brad Parrott, Gaughan burst into the top-five by lap 120. Proving that it was not by pit strategy alone, Gaughan stayed among the leaders for nearly the entire remainder of the race, eventually climbing as high as second position.

What had been a good day for the No. 62 team took a turn for the worse however, during the day’s final pit stop sequence on lap 199. Just prior to the lap 199 caution, Gaughan began to suspect that the left rear tire on his Toyota was going flat. Upon the caution period, Parrott subsequently called for a four-tire change on the No. 62 car, in order to alleviate the questionable left rear tire.

When the No. 62 car came into view on pit road however, Parrott determined that the tire was indeed not flat. With less than 25 laps remaining and a car potentially capable of challenging for a win, Parrott quickly called an audible for right-side tires only, in an effort to maintain track position for the sprint to the finish.

Among the commotion on pit road however, a miscommunication occurred when Gaughan exited his pit stall, resulting in his colliding with another car on pit road. Adding insult to injury, Gaughan was also cited by NASCAR for speeding while exiting the pits. After returning to pit road for repairs to his right front fender, Gaughan restarted the event from the end of the lead lap, around the 26th position.

Over the final 23 laps, a determined Gaughan charged his way through the field, picking up 13 positions on his way to a 13th-place finish. The effort marked his second top-15 of 2010 at Nashville and vaulted him three positions in the Nationwide Series driver standings, to 11th overall.

Noted Gaughan, “Our weekend didn’t start out as well as we wanted, but with a team effort, we had a really strong South Point Toyota tonight. It was a lot of fun to drive and I really thought that we were in line for a top-five. It’s just so frustrating that we didn’t get the finish that our team deserved tonight.

“When we hit pit road the last time, Brad (Parrott) made the call that would put us in the best position to win the race. Unfortunately, with all of the commotion, the guys weren’t able to clear me out of the pit stall like they normally do and I just didn’t see the 24 car there. When we hit, it hurt my right front fender bad enough that we had to pit again to repair it. With less than 25 laps to go, that pretty much ended our shot at a great finish.

“On that note, I know that television picked up some of our team’s audio from right after we had the collision on pit road. I really want to apologize to Brad, our team, our partners and our fans for my outburst; it was definitely not the right way to respond to the situation.

“Although I’m a veteran driver, sometimes in the heat of the moment, frustration can still get the best of you. That’s what happened to me; we had a really good car all night and I just couldn’t believe that we weren’t going to get the finish our team deserved. I let frustration get the best of me and for that, I’m sorry.

“After tonight’s race, I’m really excited about heading to Kentucky next weekend. We came really close to winning the race there last year and for the second time this year, we have AB Circle Pro aboard as our sponsor. The way our car ran tonight really gives our team a lot of confidence heading into next weekend’s race.”

Rusty Wallace Racing Logo

MOORESVILLE, NC (February 8, 2010)—In Rusty Wallace Racing’s (RWR) final team meeting before the upcoming NASCAR Nationwide Series season opener at Daytona, team owner Rusty Wallace had one key statement to make. In the famous words of the NFL’s Al Davis, Wallace’s message to his team was clear: “Just Win, Baby!”

After several seasons of steady improvement, including being the only team with multiple drivers among the top-ten of the 2009 driver standings, Wallace is looking for 2010 to be a breakout season for RWR and its drivers, Steve Wallace (No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry) and Brendan Gaughan (No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Toyota Camry).

Said Rusty Wallace, “I think 2010 is going to be a real breakout year for our team. Back when I started racing, I always used to have people tell me that you had to pay your dues before you could start winning. Our team has done that over the past few seasons and now, it’s time to win.

“Last year, I heard one of our guys say that we finished “best in class”—that a Nationwide-only team would never be able to beat the Cup guys. That comment really made me mad. So for this season, we’ve made a lot of big-time upgrades to our team. We have some of the nicest cars and equipment in the garage, a ton of great support from Toyota, a technical alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing and the best and brightest people we’ve ever had working on our team.

“With everything we have going for us this year, I told our guys that the mentality of a top-ten being a win is simply not acceptable any more. If they have that mentality, they’re not going to be a part of our team. I really feel like we have a group that can compete for wins week-in and week-out; all of our guys share that confidence. I can’t wait to unload these two Toyota hot rods in Daytona and see what we can do.”

The key upgrades, changes and storylines at RWR for 2010 include:

· Manufacturer change, from factory Chevrolet support, to factory Toyota support—Support from Toyota Racing Development marks a dramatic increase in the level of manufacturer technical support and involvement provided to the team.

· Technical alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing—Alignment with 2009 Nationwide Series champions speeds up learning curve in manufacturer change, helps team develop aerodynamics of Toyota Camry race cars.

· Strong sponsorship from 5-Hour Energy and South Point Hotel & Casino—Partnership with America’s number one energy shot gives team stable financial backing, increased promotion and alignment with one of the country’s hottest brands. Meanwhile, the venerable South Point returns for its second season as sponsor of Gaughan’s No. 62 entry.

· Scott McDougall as No. 66 Crew Chief—One of the Nationwide Series’ top race engineers, McDougall has brought an engineering focus to the team which it has not previously possessed. Under McDougall’s leadership, the team has quickly undergone a number of technical improvements, such as a much greater standardization of its car fleet.

· Brad Parrott as No. 62 Crew Chief—One of the most colorful—and winningest—crew chiefs in recent Nationwide Series history, Parrott brings a wealth of veteran knowledge and experience to RWR. Parrott’s father, legendary crew chief, Buddy Parrott, will serve as spotter for the No. 62 team in select 2010 events, beginning with Daytona.

· Engine Partnership with Triad Racing Technologies—In 2010, RWR will enjoy strong and reliable horsepower from one of the leading Toyota engine builders in the Nationwide Series.

· Increased Engineering Focus—In addition to Scott McDougall’s engineering guidance, Parrott’s appointment shifts former interim No. 62 crew chief, Dale Ferguson, back into a full-time engineering role with the team. This, combined with increased engineering support from Toyota Racing Development and an increase in the team’s in-house engineering staff, marks a change from the team’s traditional philosophy.

· Drivers more seasoned and experienced—With each and every season, driver Steve Wallace has come closer and closer to reaching the potential which he has flashed throughout his career. The 2009 season—Wallace’s third full year in the Nationwide Series—marked his career bests in almost every key statistical category. With that performance, Wallace started establishing himself as a consistent top-ten contender and now, in 2010, he looks to consistently contend for Victory Lane. Meanwhile, teammate Brendan Gaughan finished ninth in the 2009 standings during only his first season in the series. With a full year of Nationwide experience now under his belt, Gaughan is set on putting his No. 62 Toyota in front of the field in 2010.

Rusty Wallace Racing Logo

MOORESVILLE, NC (February 2, 2010)– Officials of Rusty Wallace Racing (RWR) announced today that standout veteran crew chief, Brad Parrott, will lead Brendan Gaughan and RWR’s No. 62 team in the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Parrott, a winner of nearly 20 races in the Nationwide Series since 2002, brings a wealth of veteran knowledge to RWR, having served as crew chief for drivers such as Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, Jeff Burton, Dale Jarrett, Juan Pablo Montoya and others.

Parrott’s first experience with Rusty Wallace came when he served as tire specialist for Wallace and the famed No. 2 car at Penske Racing in the early 1990’s. That experience includes Wallace’s 1993 and 1994 Cup Series seasons, which resulted in series-high win totals of ten and eight, respectively.

Stated Parrott, “I’m very excited about both being a part of Rusty Wallace Racing and working with Brendan Gaughan. Rusty has put together all of the pieces we need to be one of the premier teams in the Nationwide Series. At the same time, Brendan’s a guy who has obviously shown talent over the years; he almost won a couple of Nationwide races last season. With all of the new resources our team has available, there’s no reason that the RWR cars can’t get into Victory Lane this year.”

Further, RWR officials announced that Parrott’s father—and Wallace’s crew chief at Penske Racing during the 1993 and 1994 seasons—Buddy Parrott, will serve as spotter for Gaughan and the No. 62 Toyota Camry in select 2010 Nationwide Series events.

Noted Wallace, “I really feel like our team has paid its dues over the last few years. We’ve had our ups and our downs, but we’ve really worked hard over time to improve our team. With the resources that our Toyota and Joe Gibbs Racing partnerships provide, combined with yet another year of experience for our drivers, the engineering focus that Scott McDougall brings and now, the veteran experience of Brad and Buddy, I think that 2010 is set to be a breakout year for our team.”

The announcement reunites Parrott and Biffle, who in 2004 as a driver/crew chief tandem finished third in the Nationwide Series point standings, collecting five wins, two poles and 21 top-10 finishes in 34 races.

Parrot brings over twenty years of NASCAR experience to Baker Curb Racing having worked for many of the premiere organizations in the industry including Penske Racing, Robert Yates Racing, Roush Fenway Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing. In addition to his previous experience as Biffle’s Nationwide crew chief, the Charlotte, N.C. native has called the shots for prominent drivers Dale Jarrett, Jeff Burton, Juan Pablo Montoya and Carl Edwards. He has 18 career NNS victories atop the pit box and also recorded one win as a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series crew chief.

QUOTES:

Matt Crews, Baker Curb Racing President on the addition of Brad Parrott

“Brad is one of the most well respected crew chiefs in the business, brings with him a wealth of knowledge and has had proven success being Greg Biffle’s crew chief. We feel like he gives us a great chance to run competitive right out of the gate and to win a race. His dad was the crew chief in 1984 when Mike Curb was the owner on Richard Petty’s car so the Parrott name already has a history with Baker Curb Racing.”

Brad Parrott on joining Baker Curb Racing

“I’m really excited about joining Baker Curb Racing. My family has a long history with both Gary Baker and Mike Curb and I know they both have a great passion for racing and know what it takes to be successful. They have a tremendous facility in Nashville, a hard-working staff and all the resources needed to be successful in the Nationwide Series.

Brad Parrott on working with Greg Biffle

“Greg is not only a top-class driver; he’s a great person as well. He and I had a great relationship in 2004 and translated that into success on the track. We won races, captured poles and were in the mix for a championship. I’m looking forward to continuing that success this season and seeing the No. 27 Red Man Ford Fusion at the front of the pack!

Greg Biffle on working with Brad Parrott

“We worked well together in 2004 and won five races. Since that time he has gained a lot of valuable experience with different drivers and teams so I’m looking forward to working with him again. I think that Brad will be a tremendous asset to Baker Curb in terms of how the team is structured and what it takes to get the cars running faster.”

The solid effort was Townley’s best finish at the 1.5-mile speedway and his sixth top-20 in 24 starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Additionally, the Watkinsville, GA native gained one position in the 2009 driver point standings and also gained ground on a coveted top-30 spot in the championship owner point standings. The No. 09 entry currently sits 32nd in points just 422 markers outside the top-30.

In Friday evening’s qualifying session, Townley toured “The Great American Speedway” in 29.636 seconds (182.211 mph), turning the 27th best time of the session. The effort bested the Watkinsville, GA native’s top starting position at TMS by two positions.

Although, the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford was scheduled to line-up on the inside of the 14th row for the start of the 300-mile event, the yellow and blue Zaxby’s machine was sent to the rear of the 43-car field and even held in the garage for the opening laps as a result of a NASCAR penalty. When the No. 09 machine finally got out onto the quad-oval, Townley was scored four laps down in the 43rd position.

John Wes Townley

A long initial green flag run and patient approach had Townley scored in the 34th position by lap 33. As the leaders began making the long trip down pit road at lap 54 for scheduled stops, Townley was able to stay out on the racing surface. A welcome opportunity for relief came at lap 62, when the afternoon’s first yellow flag was thrown for debris. Brad Parrott used this opportunity to bring the Zaxby’s machine down pit road for service. Four fresh Goodyear tires and Sunoco fuel would set Townley up for the next stint. When racing resumed on lap 64 Townley was scored 29th, only two laps down.

Townley would eventually climb towards the top of the leader board over the next 40 laps but another long green flag run would leave the Zaxby’s Ford three laps down running in the 27th position at the halfway point due to the blistering pace set by leader, Kyle Busch.

In the closing 100 laps, Brad Parrott worked on making chassis adjustments to tighten up the Zaxby’s machine for Townley. The 19-year-old rookie would go on to finish his second race at Texas Motor Speedway in the 18th-postion, three laps down to race winner Kyle Busch.

With only two races left in the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series season, John Wes Townley and the Zaxby’s Racing team head to Phoenix International Raceway for the Able Body Labor 200 on Saturday, November 14th. Townley has two starts at the 1-mile tri-oval with his best start of 32nd and best finish of 36th coming in the spring 2009 Bashas’ Supermarkets 200.

Townley was a victim of circumstance but the incident relegated the 19-year-old rookie to a 28th place finish in the 300-mile event.

Despite being multiple laps down to the leader, Townley was able to leave NASCAR’s “home track” still holding down the 32nd spot in the overall owner point standings. With just four races left on the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule, Townley has 2,099 points; 389 markers behind 31st and 435 points outside the top-30.

Following an 18th place mark on the scoreboard during final practice Thursday evening, Townley toured the 1.5-mile in 29.868 seconds (180.796 mph) during time trials on Friday afternoon. The lap was fast enough to lock the Watkinsville, GA native into the field with a 27th place starting position for the 200-lap event.

The 43 car field took the green flag under threatening skies and cold temperatures for the 31st time in 2009. John Wes Townley fell back early on due to very tight conditions on his No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford but a welcoming sign for relief came on lap 14 when the evening’s first caution flag was displayed on lap 14 for a three car incident on the front stretch. Crew Chief Brad Parrott called the rookie down pit road for four tires, fuel and a major chassis adjustment. When racing resumed on lap 21 Townley was scored in the 32nd position.

A long green flag run resulted in Townley losing one lap to race leader Kyle Busch by lap 40, however smart driving by Townley kept him out of trouble on lap 64 when David Gilliland in the No. 1 machine went four wide in turn 1 ultimately causing a three car incident bringing out the evenings second caution. Townley would bring his No. 09 machine back down pit road for four tires and fuel along with an air pressure and chassis adjustment to aid in the handling of his machine. Townley would be scored 30th on lap 67 when racing resumed.

John Wes Townley

However, just three laps later Townley would become a victim of circumstance when the “big one” transpired in turn 2. The multi-car incident involved six cars including the No. 09 machine.

Although the damage was minimal, Brad Parrott would bring the yellow and blue machine down pit road four times over the next 25 laps to repair the right front fender. By lap 95 Townley was scored 29th, 21 laps down to the leader.

Townley would hang tough over the closing 100 laps but due to being multiple laps down could only gain one more position to race winner Kyle Busch. Townley would take the checkered flag in the 28th, 21 laps down.

Next up for John Wes Townley and the No. 09 Zaxby’s Racing team is Memphis Motorsports Park where the rookie plans to make his career first start at the .750-mile oval in the Kroger on Track for the Cure 250 on Saturday, October 24th.
