November 5, 2011

No. 38 Great Clips Chevrolet News and Notes

Where it all began… Turner Motorsports calls Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) their home track, winning their first championship at the track with Steve Turner’s youngest daughter, Kris, driving a Bandolero in 2004. The organization was headquartered in Hallettsville, Texas until making the move into NASCAR and to Mooresville, N.C. in 2009.Testing the NASCAR waters in 2009, the organization made their NCWTS debut at their home track. In 2010, the team went full time NCWTS racing, fielding entries for Ricky Carmichael and Buescher. In late 2010, the organization made the announcement from the TMS media center that they had acquired Braun Racing and would run three NCWTS and four NNS entries in 2011. That same weekend, Buescher grabbed Turner Motorsports’ first-ever pole award.

In one year, Turner Motorsports has collected four poles, 12 top-five and 29 top-10 finishes in the NCWTS and notched three wins, 21 top-five and 60 top-10 finishes in Nationwide Series competition. Buescher is currently second in the NCWTS points battle, while Justin Allgaier and Jason Leffler are fifth and sixth, respectively, in the NNS point standings.

Texas Motor Speedway: by the numbers… In 14 starts at the Ft. Worth-based track, Leffler has one top-five and five top-10 finishes. He is credited with one pole award and five laps led. He has an average starting spot of 15.8 and an average finishing position of 14.0.

This week’s No. 38 Impala… The Great Clips team will unload chassis TMS-127 this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. This is the team’s “go-to” chassis as it has more seen more track time than any other car in rotation. Leffler has driven TMS-127 at Kentucky Speedway (13th), Michigan Int’l Speedway (10th), Dover Int’l Speedway (11th), Charlotte Motor Speedway (21st) and Darlington Raceway (9th), Atlanta Motor Speedway (9th), Chicagoland Speedway (12th), Kansas Speedway (13th) and in the series’ last event at Charlotte (11th).

Happy 10-Year Anniversary, Great Clips… This season marks Great Clips’ 10-year anniversary as a primary sponsor in the NNS. The Minneapolis-based Great Clips, Inc., which is currently the longest-running primary sponsor in the series, came onto the scene in 2001 as a primary sponsor of Akins Motorsports No. 38 entry, then driven by Christian Elder.

Leffler on SIRIUS’ Morning Drive every Wednesday… Don’t forget to tune in to SIRIUS Radio’s “Morning Drive” with Mike Bagley and Pete Pistone every Wednesday at 10:30am to hear Leffler’s take on recent events in the Nationwide Series and what you can expect from the week’s upcoming race.

“Texas is a really fun track to race! It’s fast and slick with a wide racing surface. You can pretty much run anywhere on the track you want to based on how your car is handling. Turn two is the trouble spot there. The banking holds you really good and then, at the last second, the banking falls off. If you aren’t careful you can get caught out there and pick up a bad push at the very end or, if you’re pushing before that, it can snap you loose. It definitely has its own unique characteristics but it is a great track and the racing is always really good. Since this is the Turner family’s home track we all really want to win. It’s really important to put on a good show for the Turner Motorsports hometown fans and get this Great Clips Chevrolet back into victory lane!”

No. 31 BRANDT Chevrolet News and Notes

Texas by the Numbers… The 25-year-old BRANDT Chevy driver has six NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) starts at Texas Motor Speedway. He is credited with two top-10 finishes, with a best finish of sixth coming in April of this year. He has an average start of 15.0 and an average finish of 14.3.

NNS Points So Far… Allgaier sits in fourth-place in the NNS point standings after the series’ last race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, just four points out of third and 91 markers out of the lead.

This Week’s Impala… The No. 31 BRANDT team will hit the track with chassis TMS-308 this Saturday afternoon at Texas. This chassis last saw track action three weeks ago under the lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway where Allgaier started 10th and brought home a seventh-place finish. This chassis was run earlier this season at Atlanta Motor Speedway where Allgaier came home sixth and Nashville Superspeedway where he finished in the fourth spot.

The 31 After 31 Events… With three events left on the 2011 NNS schedule, Allgaier has accumulated some impressive stats. He has logged top-10 finishes in over 50% of the races this year and nabbed his second-career win. He is credited with six top-five and 16 top-10 finishes this season.

A Busy Off Week For Allgaier… Off weeks usually mean time to relax and spend time at home, but this wasn’t the case for Allgaier and wife Ashley. The duo flew to Mexico to take part in a mission with Back-to-Back Missions, where they assisted in building an orphanage as well as provided food to local families. Following the trip, Allgaier tweeted, “What an AMAZING trip. There are no words to describe what we saw. Really grateful for what we have everyday.”

“Texas may look like your regular mile-and-a-half, but it’s actually pretty tricky, especially with a lot of bumps in turns one and two. It provides multi-grooved racing and you have to go hard every lap or you’ll lose track position. We had a strong finish there in the spring and found new things that worked for us, so we’re heading into this weekend looking to better our sixth-place finish in hopes to get to shoot the pistols in victory lane.”

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

Back for More – Brian Vickers will again jump behind the wheel of the No. 32 Dollar General Chevy for Turner Motorsports this weekend in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS). Vickers made two previous starts this season with the Trent Owens-led team, notching a pair of top-10s at both Kansas Speedway and most recently a 10th-place finish in the Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Vickers at Texas Motor Speedway – Vickers will make his fifth NNS start at the 1.5-mile TMS this weekend. It will be his fourth start in a Turner Motorsports entry. In four previous starts, Vickers owns a pair of top-10 finishes with 87 laps led. His average start is 10.8 and his average finish is 18.8. His last NNS start was in the No. 32 Dollar General Chevy in the fall of 2009 for Turner Motorsports.

Going (Near) Home – This weekend’s trip to Texas will be a homecoming of sorts for No. 32 team tire specialist Mason Jennings. Jennings hails from Edmond, OK which is just over three hours from TMS. A 1995 graduate of Edmond Memorial High School, Jennings also attended Oklahoma State University.

Fans Can Win Big with Dollar General – Dollar General, an Official Partner of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup™, is offering customers the chance to win more than 9,000 prizes including free gas for a year, a trip for two to Las Vegas for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion’s Week™ and $250,000.
Where it All Began - Turner Motorsports calls TMS their home track, winning their first championship at the track with Steve Turner’s youngest daughter, Kris, driving a Bandolero in 2004.
This Week’s Impala - This weekend, Vickers will pilot TMS-312 in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge at TMS. This is the second race for the car, as it was the same Dollar General machine Vickers piloted to a 10th-place finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway three weeks ago.

“I love coming back here twice a year. Great food and good people. I get to spend some time with some friends down here, so it’s just an enjoyable weekend. Maybe the third time will be the charm for me in the 32 car? Can’t thank Dollar General and Rick (Dreiling, Chairman and CEO) as well as Turner Motorsports for having me back. It would be nice to get a win for them as this is Mr. Turner’s backyard as well.”

No. 31 JustinAllgaier.com / RACERSITESNews and Notes

Welcome Aboard RACERSITES… Turner Motorsports welcome’s aboard RACERSITES to the hood of the No. 31 Chevrolet. Racersites.com serves as web provider for Turner Motorsports and Justin Allgaier, who will launch his re-designed JustinAllgaier.com this week. The newly designed site will feature various interactive video elements, the most up-to-date news and information, and fan interaction sections. Originally founded in 1998, RACERSITES is a leading provider of web design, development and management services for clients in racing industries. Located in Charlotte, N.C., RACERSITES is positioned to help race teams, drivers, manufacturers, organizations and sponsors optimize their presence and efforts in the digital space and offline products as well.

At The Monster Mile… Allgaier has five starts at Dover International Speedway. In his five starts he has two top-10 finishes. In his last outing at the Monster Mile, the Nationwide Series regular ran inside the top-10 for most of the race until cutting down a right-front tire and hitting the wall, ending his day early.

This Week’s Impala… The No. 31 RACERSITES Chevy team will hit the track with chassis TMS-129 this Saturday afternoon at Dover International Speedway for the OneMain Financial 200. This chassis previously saw action at Bristol Motor Speedway where Allgaier qualified eighth and brought home a 15th-place finish. Earlier this summer, this chassis lit up the race at Lucas Oil Raceway. Allgaier started fourth and took over the second position with a handful of laps to go until his racing machine caught a fire, relegating him to a 27th-place finish.

Empire State of Mind / Home Sweet Home… No. 31 shock specialist, Pete Brower, hails from Lindenhurst, Long Island, NY, just up the turnpike and across the LIE from the Monster Mile. As the son of a local racer, Brower, who will celebrate his 40th birthday on Sunday, always had a fascination with auto racing and raced go-karts and late models at Riverhead Raceway throughout his high school years. He attended his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event in the fall of 1994 at Dover International Speedway. Brower moved to Mooresville, N.C. In 1996, to work with Brunnhoelzl Pit Equipment and side jobs with ARCA teams over the next several years. Brower joined, Turner Motorsports, formally Braun Racing, in 2006 as a shock specialist and has been with the organization ever since. So far in 2011 he and the No. 31 team have accumulated one victory, six top-five and 14 top-10 finishes.

Allgaier Heads to Dover Fifth in Points… Allgaier heads to Dover in fifth-place in the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship point standings after his 16th-place finish two weeks ago at Chicagoland Speedway. He is 81 points behind leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. All three championship-contending Turner Motorsports drivers are currently in the top-10, with Reed Sorenson in third and Jason Leffler in sixth-place.

Turner Motorsports In the Hunt… In 27 Nationwide Series events in 2011, Turner Motorsports-prepared entries have notched three wins, 20 top-five and 53 top-10 finishes.

Justin Allgaier on Dover International Speedway:

“Dover International Speedway is a physically demanding track. It takes skill and understanding how to navigate the high banks and long straightaways,” said Allgaier. “It’s a mile track with corners that remind drivers a lot of Bristol. You have to remain focused and keep yourself out of trouble to the end. In the spring we ran into trouble early in the race, but I’m confident we’ll come home with a strong finish.”

The highly successful regional distributor of plumbing, heating, HVAC, water systems and hardware products will again provide associate sponsorship to a NASCAR team that began way back in 1994 in the Busch Grand National Series.

2011 will mark the company’s fourth straight season with Turner Motorsports, previously Braun Racing, and in support of Leffler and his Great Clips race team. In each of the first three seasons, Leffler has finished well up in the NASCAR Nationwide Series point’s standing and has been a fixture in the lead pack of cars in many races.

“Our customers and employees have grown quite fond of Jason (Leffler) and the crew members and officials for what is now Turner Motorsports, and we are excited about what the 2011 season may offer. We know that Jason is one heck of a competitor and is about ready to break through with multiple victories and to seriously challenge for a Series championship. We wanted to be there with him and the Great Clips team when that all happens,” said Steve Cook, Northeastern Supply Company president and CEO.

Having supported professional contractors, builders and architects with a wide range of products and services for decades, the Northeastern Supply Company has used its NASCAR involvement to aid its solid growth. The company boasted just six branches in two states when its NASCAR programming first started and today has 32 sales outlets in five Middle Atlantic States (Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania).

“Our racing program has always focused on our customers and it has proven to be quite successful for us,” Cook explained. “We have always operated with the understanding that once the support of our NASCAR sponsorship has within our customer base and our vendors began to wane that we would get out and spend our marketing dollars elsewhere.

“The hard fact, however, is that interest with our racing activity continues to grow and is stronger than ever, and we have to thank our numerous vendors and the many fine race teams and drivers that we have sponsored over the years for understanding our objectives and for working with us to help us achieve them. We are really looking forward to working with Steve Turner and his organization in 2011 and in helping Jason (Leffler) achieve his goals of winning races and challenging for a championship,” Cook added.

The Northeastern Supply Company logo has adorned Busch Grand National and Nationwide Series race cars driven over the years by such Series’ notables as Jason Keller, Mike and Kenny Wallace, Brian Scott, Kyle Busch, Phil Parsons, Hank Parker, Jr., Kevin Lepage, Sterling Marlin and Tim Fedewa.

Steve Turner doesn’t consider himself a micromanager but he’s certainly not a hands-off owner.

The new owner of Braun Racing whose Turner Motorsports organization now boasts four Nationwide cars and three Camping World Truck Series entries can recall only one time in the last five years of owning a race team when he made an executive decision during a race.

“I had one crew chief in the last five years that I tapped on the shoulder on the box and told him to get off the box, ‘You’re done,’ in the middle of the race because he wasn’t listening to the driver,” Turner says. “The driver was telling him what the truck was doing, and I was standing there watching it and knew exactly what it was doing, too, and he just wanted to be an ass about it.

“We brought the truck down pit road, adjusted it, went back out and the truck drove back to the front.”

(November 22, 2010) – The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) traveled to Homestead, Florida this weekend for the final race of the 2010 season. Reed Sorenson and the No. 32 Dollar General team entered the weekend with high hopes for a solid finish to the year. Sorenson battled a loose-handling condition throughout the course of the 200-lap race which was plagued with 11 cautions. With hard work and perseverance, the Dollar General team brought home a 14th-place finish in the season finale and finished sixth in the NNS owner points standings.

As the sun began to lower in the Florida sky, Sorenson climbed behind the wheel of his Dollar General Toyota and prepared to start the Ford 300 from the 21st position. Within a few laps, he radioed to crew chief, Trent Owens, that the car was extremely loose. As he dove inside of the No. 6 car on lap nine, the back end of the No. 32 Camry slid sideways, evidence that he had his hands full.

“Nice save!” Owens complimented his driver. On lap 11, the first caution of the afternoon occurred. Running in the 19th spot, Sorenson took the pause in green-flag racing to report on the car’s handling.

“We are wrecking-loose right now,” he said. “I’m doing everything I can.”

“We can see it from here,” replied Owens. “Hang in there for now and we’ll get you in for adjustments on the next caution.”

Sorenson restarted the Dollar General machine from the 17th position on lap 15. He overtook the 16th spot before the next yellow flag of the day was displayed on lap 21. As the field slowed behind the pace car, he updated Owens on the car’s balance.

“We’re loose getting off of the corners,” he reported. “It’s good getting into the turns, though.”

Owens called his driver to pit road for service on lap 24. The Dollar General team quickly changed four tires, made air pressure adjustments, went two rounds down on the track bar and packed the car with fuel. With some teams choosing to take two tires or no tires on pit road, Sorenson restarted from the 18th position on lap 28.

As soon as green-flag racing resumed, Sorenson found himself engaged in a three-wide battle for position. On lap 30, a multi-car crash on the backstretch slowed the field once again. He radioed Owens that another car had made contact with the right front of the Dollar General Toyota during the last run. Owens asked spotter, Tony Hirschman, to survey the damage.

“The right front looks like it may have been kicked,” Hirschman replied. “It looks ok from here, though. Nothing is touching or rubbing the tire.”

he race resumed on lap 36 with the No. 32 restarting from the 16th position. Sorenson continued to report a loose-handling condition as he circled the track. When the yellow flag flew on lap 41 for an accident in turn two, the Dollar General Toyota was in the 15th position.

“We’re still way too loose,” Sorenson reported. “I don’t think the track bar helped it. It feels like it made it roll over more.”

“10-4,” replied Owens before instructing the Dollar General crew on what adjustments he wanted made during the next pit stop.

Sorenson drove to pit road on lap 42 for fuel and adjustments. The No. 32 crew went one round up on the track bar, made wedge adjustments on both the left and ride side and packed the car with fuel. He lined the No. 32 up in the 29th position for the restart on lap 46.

“We’re still pretty loose,” Sorenson radioed to Owens. “I just can’t get into the corner. I have to get off the gas really early just to keep from spinning.”

He continued to chip away at the field, slowly moving forward. By the time the next caution occurred on lap 60, Sorenson had driven up to the 22nd position. Owens decided to sacrifice track position and ordered his driver to pit road for more adjustments. The Dollar General crew changed four tires with air pressure adjustments, put two spring rubbers into the left rear spring and filled the car with fuel before returning him to the race track to restart from the 21st spot on lap 66.

In only a few laps, Sorenson moved inside the top-15 and was running solid lap times around the 1.5-mile track. Despite reporting that the handling was still “snappy loose,” he overtook the 14th position before NASCAR displayed the yellow flag on lap 92 for debris on the race track.

“The chassis definitely feels tighter now,” Sorenson told Owens. “The car is still pretty twitchy all the way through the corners. I just can’t turn the wheel on entry.”

Owens called Sorenson to pit road on lap 93 for service. The No. 32 crew quickly changed four tires, put more wedge into the left rear and packed the car with fuel. Their fast work gained Sorenson three positions on pit road and he lined up 11th for the restart on lap 97.

Sorenson quickly began to make his way through the field, moving inside of the top-10. The field slowed again on lap 101 for debris. He reported to Owens that the car’s handling was still twitchy but was getting a lot better. Green-flag racing resumed on lap 105 with the Dollar General Camry in the seventh position.

During the longest green-flag run of the race, Sorenson reported that he was experiencing a tight-handling condition in the exit of turn four and that he was still struggling with the entries. He had slipped back to the 11th spot when an accident in turn four brought out the next yellow flag of the evening.

Owens called Sorenson to pit road for service and adjustments on lap 136. The Dollar General crew put on four sticker tires with air pressure adjustments, put another round of wedge into the right rear and topped the car off with fuel. Another great stop by the No. 32 crew gained Sorenson four positions on pit road, putting him in the seventh spot for the restart on lap 139.

Still battling with the loose-handling car, Sorenson fell to the 11th spot before the night’s next caution.

“I’m just so loose on entry,” Sorenson radioed to Owens.

“I can see it,” replied Owens. “You’re getting run over in the corners. I want you to come in for fuel and we’ll close the right rear shock. It’s too early to take tires. We’re going to keep dropping back if we don’t work on it.”

Sorenson drove to pit road on lap 150 and the No. 32 crew quickly serviced the car per Owens’ orders. The race resumed on lap 157 with the Dollar General Camry restarting from the 17th spot.

An accident in turn three halted the green-flag racing on lap 162. The following lap, Owens quickly called Sorenson to pit road. “Let’s put four cold tires on and get a couple more spring rubbers in there.”

Restarting from the 24th position on lap 167, Sorenson immediately went to work to move back through the field. He was driving the Dollar General machine in the 17th position when the final caution of the night was displayed for an accident on the backstretch on lap 173. The race restarted on lap 178 with the No. 32 in the 14th spot.

The Dollar General team closed the season with 12 top-five and 28 top-10 finishes and took sixth-place honors in the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series owner points standings.

“Trent Owens and the Dollar General team did a great job tonight,” said Sorenson following the race. “They worked hard to adjust on the car all night and the over the wall guys were on their game, gaining spots on almost every pit stop. It has been a great year with this team and I know we are all very excited to get back on track at Daytona in February. I want to thank everyone for their hard work all year and Dollar General for all of their support. I look forward to representing them again and running for the 2011 driver championship!”

Next Stop: The NASCAR Nationwide Series will return to action in February, 2011 at Daytona International Speedway. Next year, teams will compete in all 34 races with the series’ “new car.”

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Homestead-Miami Speedway – November 20, 2010

- Kyle Busch earned his 13th win of the season in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Homestead-
Miami Speedway.

- Busch’s win enabled Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) to earn its third straight NNS owner’s championship — the second
consecutive title for the No. 18 Camry. The No. 20 Camry earned the title in 2008.

- Busch led seven times for a race-high 153 laps (of 200) at the 1.5-mile oval.

- Camry drivers earned 17 series victories in 2010 and have won 54 races since the manufacturer joined the series in 2007.
Joey Logano (seventh), Brendan Gaughan (eighth) and Jason Leffler (10th) also earned top-10 results for Toyota.

- Other Camry drivers in the field included Martin Truex Jr. (12th), Reed Sorenson (14th), Steve Wallace (15th), David
Reutimann (16th), Cole Whitt (17th), Brian Scott (18th), Michael Annett (24th), Kasey Kahne (38th) and Kevin Lepage
(41st).

- Eight Toyota drivers ended the season in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS driver points, including Busch (third), Logano
(eighth), Leffler (ninth), Wallace (10th), Gaughan (11th), Sorenson (12th), Annett (13th) and Scott (14th).

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 1st

Can you describe what it means to you to earn your second win and owner’s championship this weekend at Homestead?

“You don’t right now. You just come out here and enjoy it. All of these guys from Joe Gibbs Racing, everybody from Z-Line Designs — Jim and Monica (Sexton, Z-Line Design owners) are here to help us celebrate. This Toyota was fast, man. I just can’t thank these guys enough. They do a great job at Joe Gibbs Racing — the chassis shop, the body shop, everybody. They put it all together for us in these last three seasons. It’s a shame to see this car go, but we’ve got a new priority here next year. It will be fun. It will be a new challenge for us. I can’t thank NOS Energy Drink enough, Combos, M&M’s, Interstate Batteries, Nationwide Insurance for a great series. This has been so much fun. It’s been cool to come out here and enjoy and celebrate with all of these guys. They deserve to celebrate as much as anybody. I can’t thank the fans enough of course.”

What happened on the last pass for the lead?

“It was a battle. Kevin (Harvick) was a great race tonight and he had a great race car. I just can’t thank these guys at Joe Gibbs Racing enough — the engine shop, the chassis, bodies, everybody that builds these race cars. All of the guys that are standing here behind me that come out here and pit these things. They do a wonderful job and they deserve to celebrate and they deserve to celebrate long and hard for this one. Being the owner’s champion is really special to us. That’s what we set out to do at the beginning of the year. A great race out there. (Kevin) Harvick was strong and I just got a good restart there on that last one. I had to work for it, it wasn’t easy. I started getting tight there at the end of the race, but I had just enough there to beat him out.”

Would you have thought you would win 13 races in 2010 at the beginning of this year?

“I would’ve said I wish. I thought eight or nine (wins) is doable, but 13 that’s really hard to do. I couldn’t do it without all of these guys. I’m going to be selfish and say that I wish we had 15, you know, because I feel that we could’ve won that many this year. We’ve had a few taken away from us, but it wasn’t due to lack of effort. These guys gave it their all. Now we can go to the banquet on Monday night and have a really good party with all of us on stage too.”

Do you think you win tomorrow’s Cup race and sweep all three races this weekend?

“The Cup car is pretty good. I like it. Dave (Rogers, crew chief) has done a really nice job. It’s just going to be all about
patience and coming through the heat of the day. We’re going to have a lot of sun out there tomorrow and it’s going to be hot and it’s going to be slick so you’ve got to have a car that definitely handles well at the beginning of the run, but one that definitely handles well at the end of the run as well.”

J.D. GIBBS, president, Joe Gibbs Racing

How much does it mean to your organization to win another owner’s championship?

“It’s a huge deal for us. You kind of look back, and we started it in the first year with Bobby Labonte. All we learned over the years was what not to do and what to do. Watching Kyle (Busch) and Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) and those guys coming together, and Brad (Coleman) in there as well, it’s just a blessing for us.”

JOE GIBBS, team owner, Joe Gibbs Racing

How exciting is this for your organization to win its third straight owner’s championship?

“We’re thrilled. I think that’s been well documented. Our struggles the first years in Nationwide Series and how hard it was for us. I really appreciate Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief), the team here, Brad (Coleman) — Safeway Driving Schools. I also want to say thanks to Combos, Interstate Batteries and NOS. It’s really hard to put together a team like that to allow us to race in the Nationwide Series. But with Kyle (Busch), we really appreciate it. We’re thrilled to be a part of it. J.D. (Gibbs, Joe Gibbs Racing president) works mostly on the Nationwide side, and I take the credit for it. In any case, it’s a thrill for us and I appreciate it. One thing I left out front, too, is Toyota. I really want to make sure that the championship there and what they’ve done for us, we couldn’t be up here if it wasn’t for Toyota. I really appreciate them.”

JASON RATCLIFF, crew chief, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

How exciting is it for your team to win another owner’s championship and end the season with a win?

“It was obviously a tremendous blessing for us to have the opportunity to be close to winning another owner’s championship with Kyle (Busch) and Brad (Coleman) this year in the car, both of them did an outstanding job. Last week, we felt like we had a pretty good — as far as the point’s lead goes last week — we had some trouble at Phoenix, kind of like we did last year. So it’s very gratifying to come into Homestead and have the kind of run that we had tonight. We were able to close the deal. The guys again did a great job on pit road. The guys, the mechanics that turned the wrench on this car, they did a great job preparing it at the shop. Lot of effort went into this car this week, lot of studying, lot of notes, and it paid off for us in the end.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop / MASTIFF Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 7th

How was your race today?

“We ran eighth or ninth all day. The car went from too loose and can’t drive the thing to being so tight that you can’t go
anywhere. We were at both ends of the spectrum today and didn’t go anywhere. It’s disappointing to end the season that way.”

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 Aspen Dental Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 8th

JASON LEFFLER, No. 10 ABF U-Pack Moving Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 10th

MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 99 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota Camry, Diamond Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 12th

REED SORENSON, No. 32 Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 14th

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 15th

DAVID REUTIMANN, No. 11 Rexall / Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 16th

COLE WHITT, No. 84 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team

Finishing Position: 17th

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 09 Shore Lodge Toyota Camry, RAB Racing

Finishing Position: 18th

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 15 Germain.com Toyota Camry, Germain Racing

Finishing Position: 24th

KASEY KAHNE, No. 38 Great Clips Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 38th

What happened to take you out of the race?

“It looks like (Justin) Allgaier just lost it to me. I’ve been in a couple of his wrecks this year as far as the Nationwide side goes. I passed the 99 (Martin Truex Jr.) on entry and I was passing the 22 (Brad Keselowski) and I was on the inside so I went left. I wish I would’ve went right — I probably could’ve missed it. It was just a bad decision or the track was kind of blocked out. Our Great Clips car was fast and I think we were going forward. It’s just kind of discouraging that our race is over.”

KEVIN LEPAGE, No. 56 Sunshine Plumbing / Mitchell Swaback Charities Toyota Camry, Mac Hill Motorsports
Finishing Position: 41st

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS)

NEWS, NOTES & NUMBERS: This year, Toyota drivers have combined for 12 wins, 41 top-five results, 80 top-10 finishes and six poles after 35 of 36 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) races … Camry driver Denny Hamlin currently leads the championship standings by 15 points over second-place Jimmie Johnson and 46 points ahead of Kevin Harvick going into the season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway … Kyle Busch ranks seventh in the Chase standings … Joey Logano has recorded five straight top-10 finishes … With only two months to go in the year, the Toyota Camry is the best-selling car in America, a position it has held for eight consecutive years … The 2010 Camry, built in Georgetown, Ky., and Lafayette, Ind., also was judged to be the No. 1 ‘American- made’ vehicle for the second straight year in a recent annual survey conducted by Cars.com.

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Express Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

How will you race the season-finale at Homestead this weekend with the series points lead? “The important thing is we have a good car for Homestead. It’s going to be our Texas car. So, we know we got a good piece there. This is why we run the races. This is why you can’t crown anyone before this thing is over, is because if any kind of strategy or anything goes wrong, it could be the deciding factor in the championship. It’s a tight one. It’s just going to be whoever runs best. Trust me, I’d rather race at Homestead knowing I need to go out there and I need to win the race than knowing I need to finish 15th. That’s the mentality I’m going to have, is to win the race. It will be one of those things where you’ll probably see me as aggressive as I’ve been all year.”

Will your past success at Homestead work in your favor this weekend? “If you look at stats and history it looks good for us, but you never know what can happen. We just hope to have a clean race and the best car to win. That’s all that we can ask for to crown the champ. I’m proud that we’ve stepped up our performance like we have over these last few weeks. I’m just going to continue to keep digging as hard as I can and try to beat those guys. It’s going to be tough. Those guys are going to be good. We see that every week. As far as I’m concerned, it’s going to take a win.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 M&M’s Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Do you enjoy racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway? “Homestead is a fun race track. It’s real challenging from the beginning to the end of the race and with the beginning to the end of the run. You run the bottom then you go to the top. You’re always moving around, you’re always thinking. The sun is going to play havoc on our eyes getting down into turn one during the race. I’m looking forward to it, and hopefully there’s another two NASCAR championships to celebrate down there for myself with Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Truck Series, as well as Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) in the Nationwide Series — both owner’s titles, and then helping JGR celebrate the driver and owner championships with Denny Hamlin.”

KASEY KAHNE, No. 83 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team

How has the transition been to joining the Red Bull Racing Team and preparing for 2011? “I think at times it’s been pretty good and at other times it’s been kind of difficult. They do everything a lot different, so it’s been tough at times to pick that up while other stuff has been easy. I’m glad I have these few races to work on it. I think it definitely does help us prepare for next year. They have a lot of good people and good equipment.”

NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS)

NEWS, NOTES & NUMBERS: This year, Toyota drivers have combined for 16 wins, 72 top-five results, 142 top-10 finishes and 17 poles after 34 of 35 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) races … Kyle Busch is third in the NNS point standings despite only racing in 28 races this season … Camry drivers Joey Logano (seventh), Steve Wallace (ninth) and Jason Leffler (10th) are also in the top-10 with one race remaining … Last November, Busch notched the first win for a Camry driver at Homestead, becoming the first racer since 1983 (Sam Ard) to win both the season-finale and the NNS driver’s championship in the series … The Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) No. 18 Camry currently leads the NNS owner’s point standings by 41 points heading into the season-finale at Homestead.

REED SORENSON, No. 32 Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Amazing Adventure Gift Ideas!

What will it take for your team to get to victory lane at Homestead-Miami Speedway? “This is a great team of guys. They build good cars, Trent (Owens) is a great crew chief and the pit crew is the best they’ve been all year. What we need to do to get to victory lane is to have no mistakes. We’re a strong enough team that if something goes wrong, for example, we miss a setup or we have a bad pit stop, we are still able to rally back and get good finishes. That’s what our statistics show. However, it is so competitive now in this series, that to win, you can’t make a single mistake all weekend long. It’ll be my first trip to Homestead with the team, but I don’t doubt it’ll be another good one.”

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS)

NEWS, NOTES & NUMBERS: This year, Tundra drivers have combined for 14 wins, 56 top-five results, 116 top-10 finishes and 10 poles after 24 of 25 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) races … Todd Bodine clinched the 2010 NCWTS driver’s championship at Phoenix … Tundra drivers Aric Almirola (second), Timothy Peters (sixth), Mike Skinner (eighth), David Starr (ninth) and Jason White (10th) are in the NCWTS top-10 with one races remaining … The Toyota Tundra will make its 175th NCWTS start Friday night at Homestead … Tundra drivers have won three of the six NCWTS races at Homestead, including wins by Bodine (2005 and 2008) and Johnny Benson (2007).

TODD BODINE, No. 30 Germain.com Toyota Tundra, Germain Racing

What does it take to be successful at Homestead-Miami Speedway? “You have to keep the trucks wound up and keep them running free without being loose — that’s the hard thing. Those corners are really long and sweep and to carry your momentum through the center is important and get off the corner. I actually liked the old track just as much as I like the new one. It’s neat to go to south Florida and have a different audience. It’s pretty much always going to be sunny and warm. It’s enjoyable.”

What did it mean to clinch the Truck Series driver’s championship at Phoenix last week? “It means a lot, because it’s nice to go to Homestead without that pressure and be able to enjoy it for a whole week. The last championship we raced for, we went to Homestead and had to race before we knew what was going to happen at the end. It was pretty nerve wracking. Germain Racing has done such a great job — all the guys at the shop, the motor shop and the guys on the road crew. (Mike Hillman) Jr. (crew chief) has led this team to another championship. It shows his leadership skills and how good a person he is. We don’t give up and I’m proud to be the guy that drives this Toyota Tundra for a great race team.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Traxxas Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports

What would it mean to you to win the owner’s title in the Truck Series? “It means a lot. Where we started this year and actually not having anything a year ago at this point and coming as far as we’ve come — it means quite a bit to myself, to Eric Phillips (crew chief), Rick Ren (general manager) and all the families that we have that work for us — all the dedication that they give and the time that they’ve put in this year. We came from nothing. We came from redoing trucks from Xpress (Motorsports) that we could just get to the race track. We bought some assets from Roush Racing to get to the race track for Daytona. We knew that they had good restrictor-plate trucks and we built a lot of our own new stuff. It’s come a long way and it’s been a lot of hard work, but there’s still a lot more work to do in order to get fully funded for next year.”

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Phoenix International Raceway – November 13, 2010

- Joey Logano (third) was the highest finishing Camry driver in Saturday’s 200-lap NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS)
race at Phoenix International Raceway.

- Logano started from the pole position and led the first 23 (of 200) laps in the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) No. 20 GameStop
Camry.

- Reed Sorenson (fifth) and Steve Wallace (10th) also earned top-10 results for Toyota at the one-mile track.
Other Toyota drivers in the field included Brian Scott (11th), Cole Whitt (15th), Kyle Busch (16th), Michael Annett
(18th), Ricky Carmichael (21st), James Buescher (22nd), Ryan Truex (23rd), Brendan Gaughan (27th), Jason Leffler
(33rd) and Martin Truex Jr. (34th).

- Eight Toyota drivers are in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS driver points following Phoenix — Busch (third), Logano
(seventh), Wallace (ninth), Leffler (10th), Gaughan (11th), Sorenson (12th), Annett (13th) and Scott (14th).

- The JGR No. 18 Camry, primarily driven by Busch, currently leads the unofficial NNS owner’s point standings — holding
a 41-point lead with one race remaining in the 2010 season.

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 3rd

How was your race?

“It was so-so, I guess. You know at the beginning of the race we were okay. We led some laps from the take off but we weren’t — I knew Carl (Edwards) was definitely faster than the 12 (Justin Allgaier) at the beginning of the race. We made little adjustments here and there. We got the balance better but I didn’t feel like we got any faster. I don’t know. We had a decent run in the GameStop Toyota, just thought we were going to be better than that after practice. Carl (Edwards) had his car hooked up today, we had nothing for him. I don’t think anyone had anything for him, he was pretty fast.”

Where did you lose ground on Carl Edwards?

“Everywhere, he basically had that thing hooked up pretty good. Down there in (turns) one and two you’re tight in the center and loose off the corner. He (Carl Edwards) looked like he was a little bit better than me in the center and off the corner he was every bit as good as I was. He just had that little bit there in the center and in (turns) three and four he just carried more speed all the way through the corner. Just a little bit faster than us. One to go, we’re going to go to Homestead and win.”

Are you satisfied with a third-place finish at Phoenix?

“We worked on our car and got it better on the short run but not as fast as the 60, Carl (Edwards) was just really fast. We did everything we could to get ourselves better, but didn’t have the speed that we needed to. We were a little bit short, I don’t know. I go into this place, one of my favorite race tracks and you expect to be up there with a shot to win. We were close, we just needed a little more speed. The last 15 laps we were as fast as he was. Overall, we had the pole today, I thought we were going to have a shot at winning it but came up a little bit short. We’ll go to Homestead and try to get one more win there.”

REED SORENSON, No. 32 Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 5th

Did the sun play a role in today’s race?

“It just made it slick. The sun out here is pretty brutal, it gets the track hot and slick. We had more of a difference between sets of tires than really the track changing — that’s what we were dealing with.”

Was it hard to maneuver your car after the power steering went out?

“It wasn’t fun, I don’t want to do it again, I can tell you that. We were actually catching the 22 (Brad Keselowski) and were pretty fast. I went left and the car just went straight, I couldn’t turn the wheel and it was the power steering. To finish a race like that, it wasn’t very fun. It was hard to run fast laps like that. I was able to kind of maintain on the guys behind us, but it kind of hurt us there at the end. Other than that, the Dollar General team did great. It was a great day for us with another top – five. We were getting close to getting the car where we can win a race, we just didn’t get up there fast enough. All in all it was a great day for the Dollar General Camry.”

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing
Finishing Position: 10th

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 09 Shore Lodge Toyota Camry, RAB Racing

Finishing Position: 11th

COLE WHITT, No. 84 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team

Finishing Position: 15th

How was your first Nationwide Series race?

“I think it work out pretty good. We come here to run top-15, and we ended up 15th. It was good. It’s what we wanted. We obviously didn’t get the qualifying run we wanted and that made it tough for us to come forward. The pit crew was on all day. We really made up some spots here on pit road. We made some up on the track, too. We raced with some big names and I think we learned a lot. And, if I just get some more chances I think I can really run good in the series. I think everything went pretty good.”

How much did you learn in today’s race?

“I learned a lot lap-by-lap. It was so hard to — I just kept making mistakes because it was my first time out there. I’d make a mistake. Every time was different. We had a couple of short runs and then the long run at the end that we didn’t expect. Our car just got away from us and I kind of drove it pretty hard and maybe wore out the tires too much. A little bit of everything. I think we had a really good car and if we could have had a pit stop there at the end I think we could have come back and got close to the top-10. All in all it was a good day.”

Did anything surprise you today?

“A lot. Like I said, it’s just a big learning curve. Once I kind of started figuring it out it was time to learn something new. It was trying to learn something to use it later in the race and it really didn’t work because later in the race is different than the beginning. I need some seat time to figure it out, but I think I can.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 NOS Energy Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 16th

JASON RATCLIFF, crew chief, No. 18 NOS Energy Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What type of tire problem did you have late in the race?

“We must have run over something. It was after the last caution. Before that I thought we were making good gains on the car. It was getting closer to the 60 (Carl Edwards). We still didn’t have what we needed to race the 60, but after 40 laps on some of the previous runs our lap times — we were able to close in on him just a little bit. It would have been nice to see what would have happened there if we didn’t have that problem. But, we must have run over something and then whatever we ran over must have knocked a belt off the rear end and the rear end got hot. So, that didn’t help us any either.”

What do you think of today’s results make the owner’s point standings closer?

“It’s going to make it exciting. You hate that it comes down to something like that. We got one more race to go and all we got to do is be one point ahead.”

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 15 Pilot Flying J Coffee Toyota Camry, Germain Racing

Finishing Position: 18th

RICKY CARMICHAEL, No. 10 Monster Energy Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 21st

JAMES BUESCHER, No. 11 Great Clips Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 22nd

RYAN TRUEX, No. 99 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota Camry, Diamond Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 23rd

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 Alliance Parts Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 27th

JASON LEFFLER, No. 38 Great Clips Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 33rd

MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 00 Travis Pastrana Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 34th

What happened to take your car out of the race?

“I’m not real sure what happened there — something broke on the race car. Just a tough day, we had a decent car throughout practice and made some changes last night and just went the wrong way with the car. The car got really, really tight and we were falling back then we got run into and got our fender bent — that made it worse. I’m not sure what happened right there with the spin and the wreck. The car just spun out and out of the blue. I’d been really tight and it just spun out, I’m not sure what happened. We’ll look into it but it’s a tough day for all these guys, it’s very frustrating. We’ve had some really good runs in this car this year and today we were just way off. It was a rather frustrating day.”

(Nov. 12, 2010) – Dollar General, the nation’s largest small-box retailer, will sponsor Kyle Busch’s No. 18 Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) Toyota Tundra in five NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race in 2011.

The famous yellow-and-black paint scheme will adorn the No. 18 Toyota with Busch behind the wheel at the season-opening event on Feb. 18 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, April 22 at Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon Tenn., July 7 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Sept. 16 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill., and at the Nov. 18 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Dollar General was the primary sponsor on Busch’s No. 18 Toyota when he won the April 2 Nashville 200 Camping World Truck Series race at Nashville Superspeedway. The win was the first for KBM in just its fourth-ever race, and took place just 30 miles from Dollar General’s headquarters in Goodlettsville, Tenn.

“Dollar General is excited to partner with Kyle and Kyle Busch Motorsports in 2011,” said Rick Dreiling, chairman and CEO of Dollar General. “We enjoyed being the sponsor for Kyle’s first win with Kyle Busch Motorsports at Nashville Superspeedway in 2010, and we look forward to seeing him in victory lane in 2011.”

Beyond their win together at Nashville in April, Dollar General and Busch have plenty of history together as Busch drove Braun Racing’s No. 32 Dollar General Toyota to victory in the May 2008 Nationwide Series race at Charlotte (N.C.)
November 13, 2010

Notes of Interest:

Reed Sorenson is set to make his seventh NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR). In his six previous starts, he has started in the top-10 three times. He has two top-five and four top-10 finishes, with his best finish of second coming in April, 2006. He has an average starting position of 10.5 and an average finishing position of 10.7 at the one-mile track.

By the numbers at PIR! Sorenson ranks in the top-10 in several Loop Data categories. These categories include: Average Running Position (10th), Fastest Drivers Early in a Run (9th), Laps in the Top-15 (9th), Passes in Turn Three (6th) and Quality Passes (7th).

Turner Motorsports 2011 plans announced… Last weekend, Turner Motorsports announced that its driver line-up for the 2011 season will include the return of a number of familiar faces such as Kasey Kahne, Reed Sorenson, Jason Leffler, James Buescher, Ricky Carmichael and USAC superstar, Brad Sweet. The team has also added NASCAR Nationwide Series standout, Justin Allgaier, to their stable of drivers. Turner Motorsports will continue their relationship with General Motors and the Chevrolet brand and has created alliances with Hendrick Motorsports, who will provide engine support for both its NNS and NCWTS programs, Kevin Harvick Inc. for body and aero support, and Earnhardt Technology Group for drive train and suspension technology assistance. The team will field three full-time entries in both the NCWTS and NNS.

Chassis #43 celebrates its one year birthday at PIR! The Dollar General team will unload chassis #043 this weekend at Phoenix. The car made its track debut in November, 2009 at PIR where Sorenson started ninth and finished third. This chassis was last raced at Gateway International Raceway in July, where it finished second. It previously saw track time this season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in June (eighth), Richmond in April (eighth) and Phoenix in April (12th). Sorenson has been the only driver to pilot chassis #43.

The No. 32 Dollar General team is currently SIXTH in the NNS owner’s point standings.

Sorenson on racing at Phoenix International Raceway:

“Phoenix is a lot of fun to race at. It’s fast and flat, and there is usually a lot of excitement when an accident happens. It definitely keeps a driver on his toes. I think the key to running well here begins with starting as close to the front as possible.”

Sorenson on returning to Phoenix with the Dollar General team:

“The Dollar General team and I had a really good run here last fall. We ran the same car then that we’re bringing this weekend. That race, it handled nearly perfect. With two races left in the season, I think we are really clicking as a team. We have a lot of momentum going into Phoenix and I think this weekend we’ll have another solid performance and hopefully, bring home a win!”

Sorenson on returning to Turner Motorsports for 2011:

“Last week we announced that I’ll be returning to Turner Motorsports next year. I’m really excited to be back and can’t wait to run for the 2011 Nationwide Series Driver Championship. With the tools that Mr. Turner has put into place for next year, I think all of the Turner teams will be really strong and able to contend for the win every week. The Nationwide Series is going to be a lot of fun to drive in next year. I think the level of competition will be very high and you should see a lot of exciting races.”

With a solid performance in the spring event, the Dollar General team was confident as they unloaded for Friday’s practice sessions. After qualifying 23rd and battling a tight-handling car throughout the Saturday afternoon race, Sorenson took the checkered flag in the seventh position and brought home his 20th top-10 finish in only 26 Nationwide Series starts this season! The No. 32 Dollar General team has recorded a total of 11 top-five and 27 top-10 finishes in 2010.

During Friday evening’s Nationwide Series qualifying, Sorenson turned in a 29.064-second lap that secured the No. 32 team a 23rd-place start in Saturday’s race. Sorenson and crew chief, Trent Owens, were confident that they had a strong car set up for the 200-lap O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge. As soon as the green flag fell, Sorenson went to work, moving the No. 32 forward. Running in the 18th spot on lap 22, Sorenson took the opportunity to report on the car’s handling to Owens.

“It’s a little tight in the center and snappy-loose off,” Sorenson updated Owens.

The first caution of the day came on lap 42, when Turner Motorsports teammate, James Buescher, blew a right front tire. As the field slowed behind the pace car, Sorenson, running in the 18th spot, updated Owens on the Dollar General Toyota.

“The loose-off stays about the same throughout the run but the tightness gets worse,” Sorenson said.

Owens called his driver to pit road on lap 44 and ordered a number of adjustments by the Dollar General crew. The team quickly changed four tires, made air pressure adjustments, went one round down on the track bar and removed two spring rubbers from the left rear spring. Sorenson returned to the track to restart from the 17th position on lap 49.

In only a few short laps, he drove the Dollar General Toyota inside the top-15 and by lap 62, was running in the 10th position. The second yellow flag of the afternoon was displayed for an accident in turn two on lap 81.

“That was a little better,” Sorenson told the team. “We’re still battling the same two issues as the first run. Same thing again; the looseness stays the same throughout and the tightness gets worse.”

“10-4,” replied Owens. “We’ll get some more air out of your right front.”

Sorenson brought the No. 32 Toyota to pit road for service on lap 82. The Dollar General crew quickly changed four tires with air pressure adjustments and packed the car with fuel.

As he drove the car back to the race track, Sorenson exclaimed over the radio, “Wow! That was hectic! We were sandwiched pretty good there. I was afraid we were going to get the fenders caved in.”

The quick service of the No. 32 crew put the Dollar General Toyota in the 10th spot for the restart; however, NASCAR cited the team with exiting pit road too fast. The penalty forced Sorenson to restart from the 22nd position when green-flag racing resumed on lap 86.

Working his way through traffic, Sorenson was driving in the 17th spot by lap 95. As he battled his way back up inside the top-15, he radioed Owens that the car’s handling had become very tight.

“We’re really, really tight now,” he said. “I would say we are an eight out of 10 tight here. I’m trying to be careful not to blow the right front [tire].”

“Ok, just hang on as best you can,” replied Owens. “We’ll get that adjustment out of there.”

As Sorenson circled the track, he continued to speculate on the changed condition of his car. “I think the fenders are ok. I didn’t make contact with anyone. It’s just odd because it is just a lot tighter.”

Driving in the 15th position on lap 118, Sorenson asked about the timing of their next pit stop.

“In about 20 laps,” Owens told him.

As Sorenson battled to take over the 14th spot, Owens reassured his driver. “You’re getting off of turn two really good. You found about three tenths up there.”

As the leaders began to come to pit road for green-flag stops, Owens called his driver in on lap 138 for service. The Dollar General team quickly changed the four tires, added fuel, made a track bar adjustment and put in another spring rubber. As the field cycled through the green-flag stops, the Dollar General Toyota was running in the 16th position on lap 147 when the caution flag was displayed for debris.

“That was a lot better,” Sorenson told Owens. “The adjustments definitely freed the car up a little. I would say we were back to where we were in the second run; tight in the center and snappy-loose off.”

“10-4,” Owens replied. “Let’s come in for fuel only. That will loosen you up a little more.”

On lap 149, Sorenson drove the Dollar General Camry to pit road. Owens instructed the crew to make track bar and wedge adjustments and top the car off with fuel. The No. 32 Toyota restarted from the 15th position on lap 153.

Sorenson powered inside the top-10 by lap 167 and was running in the ninth position when the yellow flag was displayed once again on lap 185. He took the break in racing to update the team on the last set of adjustments.

“The car is good. It just continues to get tighter as the run goes on,” Sorenson reported.

Reed Sorenson

While under caution, Sorenson drove to pit road for four sticker tires and a splash of fuel. He restarted the Dollar General Toyota from the 11th position on lap 191. When the No. 21 blew a motor on lap 198, the caution flag was displayed to the field, setting the stage for a green-white-checkered finish. Restarting from the eighth position, Sorenson fought forward, taking over the seventh spot in the final two laps. The seventh-place finish marks his 20th top-10 in 26 Nationwide Series starts this season.

“The Dollar General Toyota was good today,” said Sorenson following the race. “We started out tight in the center and snappy-loose off. After our second pit stop, the car’s handling was very tight. Trent and the guys did a good job with the adjustments and we got ourselves another solid finish. We lost some track position with the speeding penalty but I think we passed more cars than anyone today! It was a good seventh-place finish for this Dollar General team. Thank you to all of the guys for a great effort this weekend.”

Next Stop: The NASCAR Nationwide Series teams heads to Phoenix International Raceway next weekend for the WYPALL 200 powered by Kimberly-Clark Professional.
