(September 30, 2011) — Max Gresham clinched his first career NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) driver’s championship after finishing third in Friday’s race at Delaware’s Dover International Speedway.

Gresham, a Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) development driver, had two wins and 11 top-10 finishes in 12 races this season. The 18-year-old Griffin, Ga.-native posted victories at Georgia’s Gresham Motorsports Park (June 11) and at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (July 15). Along with his two wins, Gresham finished second once and was third on three occasions.

Gresham’s title also marked the second owner’s championship for JGR in the series. “I can’t explain how I feel right now,” said Gresham, after the season finale. “I can’t thank these Joe Gibbs Racing guys enough. They put an awesome car underneath me today and they’ve put an awesome car underneath me all year.”

With Darrell Wallace Jr.’s win at Dover, Toyota drivers have visited victory lane in all 12 NKNPSE races this season. Camry drivers recording those 11 wins include Brett Moffitt (three), Sergio Pena (three), Wallace (three), Gresham (two) and Matt DiBenedetto (one).

It marks the fifth NASCAR regional series driver’s title for a Toyota driver. Along with Gresham’s title, Ryan Truex earned two NKNPSE driver’s titles in 2009 and 2010, and Eric Holmes captured the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West (NKNPSW) championship in 2008 and 2010.

“We have always maintained that any of our success in NASCAR is a direct result of the hard work by our teams and drivers,” said Lee White, president of TRD, U.S.A. (Toyota Racing Development). “This season of competition in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East has demonstrated that all our Toyota teams have worked very hard to earn so many wins in what has become a very competitive series. We’re very proud of Max Gresham’s championship and
are proud to have him and Joe Gibbs Racing as part of the Toyota program.”

Toyota drivers have previously captured four driver’s championships in two of NASCAR’s premier series — Todd Bodine (2006 and 2010) and Johnny Benson (2008) in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), and Kyle Busch (2009) in the Nationwide Series. This year, Busch and fellow Camry driver Denny Hamlin are currently competing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chase championship playoff, while Timothy Peters is currently
fourth in the NCWTS standings — 25 points out of first-place with six races remaining.

“To be a NASCAR champion is the biggest thing and about the only thing that I wanted to do when I started racing,” said Gresham after the event. “Hopefully, there are more to come in the future. This one is as sweet as can be right now.”

Gresham entered the event with a 21-point cushion over Brett Moffitt and served notice early he’d be hard to beat posting the second-fastest time in qualifying with a lap of 23.479 seconds (153.239 miles per hour average).

Gresham and Moffitt were glued together in the early going before the driver of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota flexed his muscles taking the lead on Lap 27. A series of pit stops for tires and fuel just prior to the midway point of the 150-lap contest on the Dover ‘Monster Mile’ put Gresham deep in the field just prior to the halfway point.

Gresham then roared his way back into the top-five and appeared to be in for an easy ride to the championship trophy when Moffitt tagged the wall on Lap 77.

The race to the finish proved to be anything but that, however, as Gresham developed a vibration while leading with just 40 circuits to go. Meanwhile, Moffitt was blazing through the field and roared past Gresham with just a handful of laps remaining.

Now in the lead, Moffitt blasted away from the battle between Gresham and Darrell Wallace, Jr. Now third and protecting his position, Gresham was able to breathe a sigh of relief when Moffitt again pounded the outside retaining wall, this time with just three laps left in the event.

Now facing a green-, white-, checkered-flag finish, Gresham nursed his way his mount to the title finishing third behind Wallace, Jr. and Dale Quarterly.

“I had a bad vibration those last 10 or 15 laps,” said Gresham. “On the laps before the green, white, checkered, I was just shaking the car around trying to figure out what was wrong. I knew something wasn’t right. It was a good thing that I didn’t have to race for position at that time. I could just ride the last couple of laps out and not have to worry about it.”

Gresham finished the 2011 K&N campaign with two wins, nine top-five and 11 top-10 finishes. The 18-year-old driver also sat on the pole for four division events and was the only driver to complete every lap – all 1,705 circuits – in series competition this season.

“This is probably the best season that I have ever had,” said Gresham. “We won race this year, we won more poles than anyone else. We had more top-five and top-10 finishes than anyone else. We did what it takes to win a championship.”

The Dover 150 will be telecast on a tape-delayed basis on SPEED on Thursday, October 6 at 7 p.m. Eastern Time.

Meanwhile, Gresham – who announced a three-race NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule with Turn One Racing to close out the season – will stay busy heading to Kansas Speedway and the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) event on Friday, October 7. Gresham will wheel a Venturini Motorsports entry in the Kansas Lottery 98.8 at 7:30 p.m.

The race can be heard live on Internet radio at www.arcaracing.com.

“Gresham crowned NASCAR K&N Series East Champion”

With five laps to go in Friday’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season finale, a whole bunch was hanging in the balance. Brett Moffitt was leading Darrell Wallace Jr. If he won the race, he might win the championship. But he was losing the grip, lap by lap. Meanwhile, series leader Max Gresham was trying to hold off Dale Quarterly, because if he fell too far back, he’d lose the championship.

But by the time there were four laps left, everything changed.

Moffitt’s right front tire let go and he crashed into the wall, sending Wallace on his way. Meanwhile, Gresham’s parameters switched from “drive for your life” to “just finish.” He did, and Gresham took the 2011 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship, while Wallace picked up the race win, becoming the first African American to ever win the pole and a race at Dover.

“It was an emotional win, especially for me, losing my uncle this past Saturday,” Wallace said. “I put his name over mine on the door, and he was riding shotgun with us. He’s the one who put us in Victory Lane.”

It was not a surprise to see Wallace up front. He had whipped the field in practice and qualifying – he ran a full 1.3 miles per hour faster than the competition in qualifying, which is an eternity by NASCAR standards. But he collided with teammate Sergio Pena early in the race and had to deal with some damage that put him two laps down.

However, the 17-year-old driver felt he’d grown a lot this season, and he put that growth to good use in confronting the situation.

“I’ve learned to not get in over my head in tough situations like today,” Wallace said. “I had a little damage and I thought our day was over with. But I persevered and my team persevered, and we were able to come back to the top.”

Meanwhile, Gresham celebrated his series championship alongside Wallace. Leading by just 21 points following Moffitt’s win in last week’s race, Gresham had no room for error – at least, not until Moffitt gave him some.

“Once Brett took the lead, at that point we had to do what we had to do to finish third,” Gresham said. “And if that meant racing as hard as we had to, that’s what we had to do, because we had to finish third and we knew it. As soon as [Moffitt’s tire blew], it was just a big sigh of relief.”

But for a while there, Gresham’s own car was worrying him a bit.

“Those last 10, 15 laps, I definitely had a bad vibration,” he said. “I wasn’t sure what it was. The last few laps there during the caution I was just shaking the car down because I knew something wasn’t right. It was a good thing I didn’t have to race for position at that time, I could just ride the last three laps out and not have to worry about it.”

Gresham drives in the Joe Gibbs Racing developmental program, and his crew chief, Bryant Frazier, was Tony Stewart’s first crew chief when Stewart joined the team in 1998. Frazier was extremely proud of his latest young driver.

“He did exactly what we set out to do this year – be patient at times, drive hard when we need to, and win races,” Frazier said. “He ran every lap that the K&N Series ran this year, so that’s a testament in itself. Max has done a great job and this team has worked so hard all year long as a group. It’s just been a wonderful year, and that’s all a testament to Joe Gibbs Racing. There wasn’t a time this year where I couldn’t go to a Nationwide or a Cup crew chief and they wouldn’t give you an answer. That’s part of what makes this company as great as it is.”

At age 18, Gresham is now a NASCAR champion, and he’ll be right there with the big names at NASCAR’s awards banquet later this fall.

“It means everything in the world right now,” he said. “I have big stuff happening in the next week and I don’t even know what it is right now. To be a NASCAR champion is pretty much the biggest thing I wanted to do when I started racing, and now I am. This is as sweet as it could be right now.”

“It’s all about going after a championship by winning the race,” said Gresham. “It’s simple – we win the race, we win the championship. It won’t matter what anyone else does. Won’t matter at all.”

Gresham dominated last year’s Sunoco 150 NKNPSE event at Dover winning the pole position and leading a race-high 85 laps. Gresham’s explosive performance in his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota was cut short as a mechanical failure one lap shy of victory resulted in an disheartening 18th-place finish.

“We bottomed out and cracked the oil pan about Lap 40,” said Gresham. “I was really having trouble keeping the oil pressure up during that final caution and when the green flag waived, I could feel the engine stumble. Them coming to the white flag, it just gave up. The car was on a rail. Nobody had anything for us. If that last caution doesn’t come out, the oil pressure stays up at high speed and we sail to the win. Instead, everything just went up in smoke.”

Gresham has ‘smoked’ the NKNPSE competition this year with two wins, eight top-five and 10 top-10 finishes in 11 events. He has posted an 5.3 average finish this season. The 18-year-old Belmont Abbey College freshman has also sat on the pole for four division events (5.7 qualifying average) and is the only driver to complete every lap – all 1,553 circuits – in series competition this season.

All of that has translated to a 21-point lead over Brett Moffitt in the 2011 K&N East championship chase, a race that will come to a climax this Friday at Dover.

“I have a lot of confidence going back to Dover,” said Gresham. “We’re taking the same car and set-up we had last year and we are just going to tweak on it to get it even more right. We all felt like we should have won last year. Dover owes me one and hopefully I can get my ‘one’ this weekend. Dover has been a great place for me in the past and I know it’s going to be good for me this year too.”

The Dover 150 will feature a full day of practice and qualifying on Thursday before taking the green flag Friday at 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

The event, which was started under threatening skies, came to a sudden conclusion when Scott Bouley pounded the Turn 2 inside retaining wall on Lap 70. Persistent rain during the ensuing caution flag curtailed the race on Lap 78, well short of its scheduled 125-lap distance.

“I was joking with my guys that I could run the car just as hard in the rain as we could when it was dry – we had an awesome rain set-up,” said Gresham. “It was raining pretty hard. There was a point out there were you could see the streaks on your windshield from all the raindrops. It was hard to tell if the racetrack was wet, but you could just tell it was based on how little grip you had.”

Gresham qualified fourth for the event on the NHMS ‘Magic Mile’ on Thursday and settled in for the long haul at the drop of the green flag Friday. A loose handling condition on his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota dropped Gresham to eighth in the running order at Lap 50 before a spirited charge apparently boosted him to the sixth spot on Lap 70.

Bouley’s crash, however, had NASCAR officials reverting to the running order on the previously completed lap placing Gresham back in seventh as the cars idled around to a rain shortened, checkered flag finish.

“Everyone has to pass the start-finish line to complete a lap, so if you pass someone on that lap and the yellow comes out, it doesn’t count,” said Gresham. “That’s twice now that rule has bit us. The first time, I didn’t care that much, but that’s five points we lost in the championship battle today and that hurts us. There’s nothing we can do about it. We had a better car than we finished. I’m happy to be in the position we’re in right now, but I wish had a little bit better run today.”

Gresham still maintained the NKNPSE point’s lead by 21 markers over race winner Brett Moffitt. The 18-year-old Belmont Abbey College freshman will now try to win the 2011 K&N East title this Friday, September 30, when he and his JGR mates head to Dover International Speedway and the Dover 150.

“Our lead isn’t as big as we might have wanted it to be, but we’ll go to Dover and race to win,” said Gresham. “We know that Brett is going to be good there. We’ll take our big guns and try to win the race at Dover. I know this Joe Gibbs Racing team is going to give me a fast car. Hopefully, we’ll seal the deal this time.”

The New Hampshire 125 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway will be telecast on a tape-delayed basis on SPEED on Thursday, September 29 at 7 p.m. Eastern Time.

Meanwhile, the Dover 150 will feature a full day of practice and qualifying that same day before taking the green flag next Friday at 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

CORNELIUS, N.C. — No. 00 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota driver Brett Moffitt hopes to break his string of three consecutive second-place finishes Friday night in the penultimate K&N Pro Series East race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Moffitt is second in the standings trailing leader Max Gresham by 65 points. The 19-year-old Grimes, Iowa native, ran second at the “Magic Mile” in the spring leading 29 laps. While Moffitt has never visited victory lane at NHMS, his MWR team took home two wins at the track in 2010 with driver Ryan Truex. In addition to his victories at Greenville Pickens and Iowa Speedways, Moffitt has finished second in the last three races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Columbus Motor Speedway and Greenville Pickens Speedway.

Brett Moffitt

MOFFITT ON NHMS: “We’re looking to improve on our last run at New Hampshire in the spring. We looked at a few different areas we can improve upon, and I think we can make some gains there. Hopefully that will be enough to get us the win this weekend. We’ve been close there so many times, but we’ve just never been able to make that trip to victory lane.”

MOFFITT ON WINNING: “We’ve had a streak of second-place finishes lately and that’s been good, but second isn’t winning and that’s what we come here to do. We feel like we’ve been the car to beat at most every track we’ve shown up at this year, but some bad luck has taken us out of position to capitalize on the win. We really need things to go our way and run smoothly these final races of the season. We just need to run up front, have some good luck and it will be clean sailing from there on out.”

MOFFITT ON MWR: “We’re starting to close in on the end of the season and looking back our season went really well performance-wise. We hit some bad luck, but we had good runs and solid finishes. We all work well together and have good chemistry which is important. It’s been a great year. We’re looking to finish strong, and hopefully we’ll all get to work together again.”

GRECI ON WORKING WITH MOFFITT: “The driving part of our year has been exceptional. Brett has done a great job. We have been in a bad spot a couple of times, but he’s come around. His strong point is that we see no fatigue in him, even on longer races. His work ethic here has really helped him, and it’s showing on the track.”

NOTES

· Moffitt owns six career victories in 31 East Series starts including 2011 wins at Greenville Pickens and Iowa Speedway.

· Moffitt has led 384 laps of the season’s 1,463 so far. He owns two wins and three second-place finishes in 2011.

· Moffitt’s crew chief Mike Greci bids for his fifth East Series title in 2011. Greci won titles with Ryan Truex in 2009 and 2010 and with Mike Stefanik in 1997 and 1998.

· New Hampshire Motor Speedway serves as Granby, Conn. Native, Mike Greci’s home track.

· SPEED-TV will televise the race on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.

While the effort didn’t produce a trip to Victory Lane, it felt like it just the same to Gresham.

“I’m happy to come out with a strong finish,” said Gresham, driver of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. “That was almost like a win for me. Greenville has always been the monkey on my back. We’d run pretty well, something would go wrong late, and we’d have a bad finish. I’m happy we’re done here and now we can move on to two of my favorite tracks – New Hampshire and Dover.”

Gresham’s drive to his eighth top-five finish in just 10 K&N races this season got off to a rocky start in pre-race practice as his car suffered through a series of mechanical issues. A strong team effort finally got Gresham’s World Crown 300/Live Oak Plantation Toyota pointed in the right direction as he posted the second-fastest lap in the last minutes of the final practice round.

“It was definitely a struggle,” said Gresham. “We had front brake and rear end issues, so we didn’t have a lot of quality laps the first practice session. I’ve got to give it to my guys – my Joe Gibbs Racing team – they dug in and changed everything we needed to. We joked afterward that we rebuilt the whole car at the track. They got the car raceable and fast. To not make a mock qualifying run and still end up P-2 by the end of the second practice is really a testament as to how hard they work and good they are.

“It also gave me a lot of confidence going into qualifying,” Gresham continued. “It took a lot of pressure off. I knew the car had a fast lap in it and all I had to do was match my practice lap. If I could do that, we would have a good qualifying lap.”

In qualifying, Gresham clicked off a lap of 20.974 seconds, first at the time and fourth in the final rundown. Gresham then took the green flag from his second row outside starting spot several times in the first 40 laps as cautions for wrecks and spins kept doubling up the field.

The last of the restarts came on Lap 43 as the Greenville flat, half-mile oval uncharacteristically produced green flag racing over the final 97 circuits. That allowed Gresham to settle in and ride, saving his equipment for the almost inevitable Greenville late-race caution where he would then have a shot at the victory.

It never came.

“You never expect that kind of long, green-flag run at Greenville,” said Gresham. “I talked to the East Series director, Kip Childress, and even he said he never saw a race at Greenville with only three cautions and a green-flag period of more than 50 laps. It was a surprise to everybody and a good thing for us. We had a good car and didn’t have to beat it up to get a good finish. It got over pretty quickly.”

The solid finish allowed Gresham (1,621) to maintain a 65-point lead over runner-up Brett Moffitt (1,556) in the 2011 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship standings. Darrell Wallace, Jr. is third in the title chase, 105 markers back with two races remaining in the season.

“We did what we needed to do at Greenville,” said Gresham. “We did what a championship team needs to do at a track that we haven’t run well at in the past. You have to come out on top. Finishing fifth at Greenville was big for us. We’re going to keep digging these next two races.”

The Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 140 will air on SPEED this Thursday, September 15 at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.

Next up for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East division will be the New Hampshire 125 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, N.H. The race will take the green flag at 5 p.m. Eastern.

Meanwhile, Max Gresham will stay busy heading to Salem (IN) Speedway this weekend for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) event.

Gresham will wheel the No. 25 Venturini Motorsports entry in the 200-lap clash this Saturday, September 16 at the Salem half-mie oval. The race will roll off at 7 p.m. Saturday evening an can be heard live at www.arcaracing.com.

CORNELIUS, N.C. — No. 00 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota driver Brett Moffitt races Monday night at Greenville Pickens Speedway in Greenville, S.C. The 19-year-old won the pole and the race when the East Series began its 2011 season at the half-mile track in April. The Grimes, Iowa native, ranks second in the K&N Pro Series East standings, trailing leader Max Gresham by 80 points.

After a six-week break in East Series competition, Moffitt plans to stay busy for the rest of the season. In September, he’ll race in the final three 2011 East Series events plus the IMCA Supernationals event in Boone, Iowa.

Brett Moffitt

MOFFITT QUOTES

GREENVILLE PICKENS: “We went and tested at Greenville a few weeks ago. We were kind of debating which car was going to be faster, the car we ran at Columbus or the car we won with previously at Greenville. We determined that the car we won with was the faster one, so we know which one to go back with, and we’re feeling pretty confident about heading back there and hopefully winning another race.”

SEPTEMBER: “September is really busy. We have three East races and then I’m also going home for a week to run a big dirt race in Iowa – the IMCA Supernationals. I’m racing every weekend this month, which is a lot of fun for me as a driver especially since we’ve had six weeks off. Now we get back in the car and get a ton of races, so we’re looking forward to Greenville and then I’m going back home to do the dirt race and then we have Loudon and Dover. Hopefully we can have four wins by the end of this month.”

STAYING FOCUSED: “During the six-week break it’s a lot of off time and it’s right in the middle of the summer. I had my birthday off and was able to have some fun and hang out with friends. However, it’s also a lot of working on the cars and spending time in the gym and being mentally and physically prepared for these last few races of the year. I’m just getting set up to perform our best and hopefully everything goes our way, and we end up with four wins.”

NOTES

· Moffitt owns six career victories in 30 East Series starts including 2011 wins at Greenville Pickens and Iowa Speedway.

· Moffitt has led 384 laps of the season’s 1,323 so far. He owns two wins and three second-place finishes in the past nine races.

· Moffitt’s Crew Chief Mike Greci bids for his fifth East Series title in 2011. Greci won titles with Ryan Truex in 2009 and 2010 and with Mike Stefanik in 1997 and 1998.

· During the six-week break, Moffitt celebrated his 19th birthday. His family and friends organized a surprise party.

· SPEED-TV will televise the race on Sept. 15 at 6 p.m.

Gresham, the leader in the K&N East championship chase, started on the pole in oppressively hot weather conditions after blistering the Columbus .333-mile oval with a lap of 14.176 seconds in qualifying. The Coors 21 pole was the fourth of the year in nine K&N events for the 18-year-old Griffin, GA driver.

“We had another top qualifying run and I have to credit my Joe Gibbs Racing crew for that,” said Gresham after time trials. “They put in a lot of hours in the shop and another pole run like this accounts for every one of them They got cooked out here today in this heat. You have no idea how much I really appreciate everything they do.”

Gresham quickly pointed his World Crown 300 Toyota into the lead at the drop of the green flag and paced the first 35 circuits before Darrell Wallace, Jr. slipped past for the top spot. Now battling a tight handling condition, Gresham continued to slip back in the field falling to fourth at the halfway point of the 150-lap contest.

Gresham, the winner of the most recent K&N event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last weekend, fell back as far as ninth in the running order at one point thanks to being gridded in the outside lane in a pair of caution-related restarts.

With just over 20 laps to go, Gresham drove through a pair of wrecks down the stretch to finish seventh – not what he had hoped for, but still a solid finish considering the circumstances.

Wallace soldiered on to win the event followed by Alex Bowman. Brett Moffitt hammered his way through the field to finish third followed by Matt DiBenedetto, Daniel Suarez, Chase Elliott and Gresham.

“It turned out to be kind of a rough night,” said Gresham. “We just didn’t have the car exactly where we wanted it. It went away early in the race and we just couldn’t get it back. There were also some guys out there who just weren’t thinking properly and sadly, we were a victim of that too.

“Still, we got another top-10 finish and completed all the laps. Now it’s on to Greenville-Pickens where, hopefully, we’ll have a better car there than we did in the first race of the season,” Gresham concluded. “We’ll be going down there looking to give everyone a good waxing.”

Gresham still has an 80-point lead over Moffitt with three races remaining in the 2011 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship battle. Wallace, Jr. and DiBenedetto are still in the title chase, 100 and 116 markers behind respectively.

Gresham will have to wait more than a month before he again gets to strap on the No. 18 JGR Toyota as the series is now idle until Labor Day weekend and an event at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on Monday, September 5.

That doesn’t mean that the Griffin, GA teenager will be inactive as he will compete in a pair of Automobile Racing Club of America events – the first coming this Thursday in the Ansell Protective Gloves 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Clermont, IN.

Gresham will steer the No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Toyota in that event, a race that will be telecast live on SPEED TV at 7 p.m. Eastern Time Thursday.

Moffitt is second in the standings trailing Max Gresham by 94 points. The 18-year-old Grimes, Iowa native jumped from fourth to second after his second-place finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 15. Moffitt owns victories at Greenville-Pickens and Iowa Speedways in 2011 and has led twice as many laps as all other drivers.

Crew Chief Mike Greci leads Moffitt’s Michael Waltrip Racing team that won the East titles in 2009 and 2010 with Ryan Truex. Greci also served as Mike Stefanik’s crew chief winning the 1997 and 1998 titles. Both Truex and Stefanik were named to the top 25 all-time best East Series drivers.

MOFFITT QUOTES

COLUMBUS MOTOR SPEEDWAY:“Columbus is a new track on the schedule and with all of us going there for the first time I think it will level out the playing field for everyone. I don’t know what to expect so practice will be more crucial than normal. Those practice session will be about learning the track and coming up with a race setup. Practice is always important but even more so this weekend.”

2011 SEASON: “We’ve had a lot of highs and lows in our season this year, but I am very confident in our team and my crew chief Mike Greci. We ran into some bad luck midway but we’ve rebounded pretty well. One thing for sure, we are fast every time we race. I’m just focusing on each race and trying not to think about points. If we go out and try to win every race, the points will take care of themselves.”

GRECI ON HAVING TWO DRIVERS IN THE TOP-10: ”I had two in the top-10, it was pretty cool. It’s an honor to have just one, and now I have two. However, it’s not just myself that made it happen, we’ve always had good people around us and good equipment. Everyone around me has always stepped up, the crew, sponsors and everyone that makes it possible for us to be out on the track each week. But to have two in the top ten, it’s really neat.

NOTES

· Has six wins, four poles and 21 top 10s in 29 career East starts.

· Is second in points with a pair of wins and five top 10s through eight races.

· Has led 384 laps this year, nearly double the total of every other driver.

· Moffitt’s Crew Chief Mike Greci bids for his fifth East Series title in 2011. Greci won titles with Ryan Truex in 2009 and 2010 and with Mike Stefanik in 1997 and 1998.

Gresham and his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota won the pole Thursday and wasted little time getting to the front taking the point early leading until Lap 43 when he missed pitting under caution.

“My crew chief, Bryant Frazier, and I were talking on the radio and we never gave my spotter Curtis Markham a chance to tell me pit road was open,” said Gresham. “We just missed it. It was a little thing that we thought would hurt us in the long run, but we fought our way back. We drove our race and got back to the front. This Toyota Camry that Joe Gibbs Racing gave me was awesome.”

Gresham’s luck went from bad to worse when he pitted a one lap later for fuel. Exiting the pits, the 18-year-old Griffin, GA driver made contact with another vehicle damaging the left-front fender on his World Crown 300-sponsored racer. That forced Gresham to pit again where he took on right-side tires and had the damaged repaired.

Now mired in deep in the field as the race went back to green-flag conditions, Gresham methodically started working his way back through the pack picking off several positions before another caution, this on lap 59, sent him back to pit road for left-side tires.

The stop would prove to be critical later in the race as his rivals would complete the race with fresh right-side rubber only while Gresham had four new tires for the run to the finish in the 125-lap event.

Now 26th in the running order on Lap 62, Gresham rocketed back through the field breaking into the top-five with just under 40 circuits remaining. With 20 to go, Gresham was in second nipping at the heels of leader Brett Moffitt before he finally took the top spot for good at Lap 112.

From there, it was smooth sailing for Gresham as he rolled to his second NASCAR K&N Pro Series win of the season. Moffitt held on for second followed by Corey Lajoie, Brandon Gdovic and Benny Gordon.

The effort was Gresham’s seventh-consecutive top-five finish since coming home 21st in the season-opening division race at Greenville, SC. He is the only driver in the series to complete all 1,185 laps contested this season.

The victory also boosted Gresham’s lead in the 2011 NKNPSE championship point standings to 94 markers over Moffitt.

“It’s awesome to come from the back and win is very cool,” said Gresham. “Most people would want to get back to the front as soon as they could, but we just slowed down and ran our pace. We tried to get a car a lap, keep the tires under the car and keep the fenders clean. We knew if we could do that, we’d have something for them at the end. We were able to do that and it definitely paid off for us in the end.”

Gresham will stay busy in NASCAR K&N Pro Series competition traveling to Columbus (OH) Speedway next weekend for the Jegs 150. The event will mark just the third time the series has appeared in the state of Ohio and the first-ever at the Columbus oval.

The one-day show will open with practice at Noon Eastern with qualifying to roll off at 6 p.m. The Jegs 150 will take the green flag at 8:45 p.m. and can be heard on Internet radio at www.NASCARHomeTracks.com.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway

CORNELIUS, N.C. —No. 00 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota driver Brett Moffitt races Friday night at 5 p.m. in the K&N Pro Series East at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Moffitt is fourth in the K&N Pro Series East standings, trailing the series leader Max Gresham by 79 points. Moffitt owns victories at Greenville-Pickens and Iowa Speedways in 2011 and has led twice as many laps as nearly all other drivers. The 18-year-old Grimes, Iowa native earned the pole position at the Loudon, N.H. track for the last two East Series races.

Granby, Conn. native Mike Greci serves as Moffitt’s crew chief. Greci owns four East Series titles including championships with Ryan Truex in 2010 and 2009 and with Mike Stefanik in 1997 and 1998.

MOFFITT ON NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY: “We’re really looking forward to going to Loudon. MWR has had good success there last year winning both of the races and I got both of the poles last year. It is a track that I like as a driver, and obviously, this team can perform really well there. We’re just looking to go there, find that balance and have lots of success.”

THEN AND NOW: “My first time going to the track was two years ago. It was actually a pretty successful event. It definitely took a lot of time to get used to the track, and find those braking points. The first couple of times going there it takes a while in practice to get used to it, but it is a really fun track. I know I’ve come a long way since I first started racing there, so I’m ready to get on the track this year.”

GRECI ON MWR’S 2011 SEASON: “The driving part of our year has been exceptional. We’ve just been feast or famine as far as the luck of our season has been. Either we hit a home run, or we are playing catch up. Some of it has been of our own problems, and some of it has just been luck. Brett has done a great job. We have been in a bad spot a couple of times, but he’s come around. We got him two laps down last race at Langley, and he came back to finish second. His strong point is that we see no fatigue in him, e

Brett Moffitt

ven on longer races. His work ethic here has really helped him, and it’s showing on the track.”

GRECI’S HOMETRACK: “Going to New Hampshire Motor Speedway is really neat for me, it’s my home track. I have been racing up there forever and we have had a lot of success there. I think the key to Loudon is in the shock package. It depends on how your car runs, not on the first laps of the race but the last 75-125. We’ll go back up there where all of the Yankees are from and we’ll be at home for a weekend.”

NOTES

· Has six wins, four poles and 20 top 10s in 28 career East starts.

· Is fourth in points with a pair of wins and four top 10s through seven races.

· Has led 355 laps this year, nearly double the total of every other driver.

· After finishing 27th in his NHMS debut, he has posted finishes of second, fifth and second since.

· He earned both poles at NHMS in 2010 and set the track qualifying record at the September race.

· Is in the car that won both NHMS races last year with Ryan Truex.

ON LANGLEY SPEEDWAY: “This weekend we’re going to Langley in Virginia. It will be the first time racing there for me. I’m really looking forward to it. We went testing there and the car was good. I hope we can get back on the right track there, have a little bit of luck on our side this week, and not run into trouble like last weekend at Gresham. We need to recover in points from that, but we are looking forward to it and it should be good.”

ON THE 25TH SEASON OF THE NASCAR EAST SERIES: “This is the East Series’ 25th year running and that’s just amazing that NASCAR puts all of that effort towards the East Series. It is a great way for drivers to come up and there are many older drivers that are still running. Everyone is just there to have fun and run competitively. It’s a great series and I’m glad they put so much effort towards it.”

ON FATHER’S DAY: “This weekend is Father’s Day and without my dad none of this would be possible. It’s amazing what my family has done for me and how much my dad has supported me through the years beginning in go-karts all the way until now running in the East Series here at Michael Waltrip Racing. I thank him a ton, I thank him every day for what he has done, all the sacrifices he has made. Without him, this would not be possible. It’s awesome that he did that, and I look forward to seeing him this weekend at Langley. We are going to have a good time. I want to wish him a happy Father’s Day.”

NOTES

· Moffitt owns six career victories in the East Series in 27 starts.

· Moffitt’s Crew Chief Mike Greci bids for his fifth East Series title in 2011. Greci won titles with Ryan Truex in 2009 and 2010 and with Mike Stefanik in 1997 and 1998.

· Moffitt and his father began their go-kart venture in 2004 when Moffitt was 11.

CORNELIUS, N.C. — No. 00 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota driver Brett Moffitt races Saturday at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Ga. The 18-year-old driver visited the 1/2-mile oval in January during teammate Travis Pastrana’s test at the track. Moffitt, a Grimes, Iowa native, ranks fourth in the K&N Pro Series East standings, trailing the series leader by 34 points. Moffitt earned victories at Greenville-Pickens and Iowa Speedways in 2011 leading 355 of 720 laps this season.

In addition to working with Pastrana, Moffitt has also received advice on his driving career from owner, Michael Waltrip. Waltrip a two-time Daytona 500 winner is currently racing in the 79th Le Mans 24 Hours with Michael Waltrip Racing co-owner Rob Kauffman.

Brett Moffitt

MOFFITT QUOTES

GRESHAM MOTORSPORTS PARK: “I had a little bit of bad luck running at Gresham last year but we still ran strong so I’m looking forward to going back there with these guys and hopefully getting back into victory lane. I haven’t had an opportunity to test at Gresham this year, but earlier in the season I went down with Travis (Pastrana) and helped him with some different lines. It gave me a chance to see the track again, and see how it was running. It’s a fast track and you can actually carry a lot more speed than what you think going into the corners. It is something that normally where you are on the brake for a track that size, there you just kind of roll out of the gas and let the car roll to the middle. It’s a very fun, fast track and there is going to be a lot of action for the fans.”

HALFWAY—SIX TO GO: “Gresham is the halfway point in the season. We have had our ups and downs this season. Our team has been running strong, but after Bowman Gray we fell back to fourth in the standings, 34 points out of the lead so we are going to try to gain that back this weekend at Gresham. That’s what we are looking forward to this weekend.”

MICHAEL WALTRIP: “Having an owner that does just about everything is really cool to learn from. He goes from writing a book, to winning at Daytona, and now he is in Le Mans. I want to wish him and Rob (Kauffman) good luck on that and I hope their adventure is safe and that they come out victorious.”

NOTES

· Moffitt owns six career victories in the East Series in 26 starts.

· Moffitt has led 355 laps of the season’s 720. He has earned two wins in the past five events.

· Moffitt’s Crew Chief Mike Greci bids for his fifth East Series title in 2011. Greci won titles with Ryan Truex in 2009 and 2010 and with Mike Stefanik in 1997 and 1998.

· In honor of Father’s Day GMP will host ‘Dynamite Dads’ which will allow dads into the June 11 race free of charge.

Moffitt tested at the 1/4-mile stadium in May with eight-time modified track champion and MWR suspension manager Tim Brown. Moffitt, a Grimes, Iowa native, leads the K&N Pro Series East standings after victories at Greenville-Pickens and Iowa Speedways in 2011. Moffitt leads the Toyota contengine of drivers that have won all four events in the East Series. Last week Moffitt participated in “The Next Nine” at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte—two media days focused on promoting NASCAR’s next top drivers.

MOFFITT QUOTES

BOWMAN GRAY STADIUM: “We’re really looking forward to going to Bowman Gray. We don’t really know what to expect going there because our series has never running a race there before, but our car was really good at the test a few weeks ago. We just focused on getting the car to turn in the middle of the corner and have decent forward-drive off. I think it was very useful being able to go to that track to test and get that experience. Personally, I learned a lot on how to get around there. Tim Brown came out to help us a bit and I have to thank him for that. We learned a lot and we are hoping to go back and use all of that information.”

NEXT NINE: “The Next Nine was a really cool event we did at the NASCAR Hall of Fame for a few days last week. It was a great opportunity for fans to come out and get autographs. It was also a great opportunity for us as drivers to get media experience and get our names out there a little bit more. It was fun for me and I was glad to be chosen as one of the nine drivers NASCAR invited to the event.”

TOYOTA DOMINATION: This year the Toyota cars are running really strong in the K&N Pro Series East. They’ve won every race so it’s a good start to the season for them. I know we couldn’t do it without their backing. They’ve provided us with a strong engine and it’s shown on the track with our two wins. Hopefully our MWR team can continue on that success for them this weekend.”

NOTES

· Moffitt owns six career victories in the East Series out of his twenty five races.

· Moffitt has led 355 laps of the season’s 565. He has earned two wins in the past four events.

· This weekend will mark the first time in a decade and a half that a NASCAR stock car touring series has visited Bowman Gray Stadium. The “Madhouse” is NASCAR’s longest running weekly race track started by Bill France Sr. and Alvin Hawkins in 1949.

· Moffitt’s Crew Chief Mike Greci bids for his fifth East Series title in 2011. Greci won titles with Ryan Truex in 2009 and 2010 and with Mike Stefanik in 1997 and 1998.

· The race will be broadcast live on NASCARHomeTracks.com via Speed 51 Radio.
