The 18 year-old from Bakersfield, California will be behind the wheel of the No.15 JDRF– Venturini Motorsports race car for the ARCA Racing Series Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona. Ryan and his team are also excited to announce support from Advance Auto Parts for Ryan’s superspeedway debut.

“Racing at Daytona is a dream-come true,” said Reed. “Since I was a kid I dreamed of the day I would have the opportunity to compete on the historic track. And then to go to the test with Venturini Motorsports in December and be at the top of the charts on the first day was unreal!”

Reed was diagnosed with T1D exactly one year ago – February 2011.

His untimely diagnosis changed his life forever and threatened his promising racing career. After being told his racing career was over, Reed made a decision not to allow T1D to dictate his legacy behind the wheel.

Ryan Reed

Armed with the passion and determination to fulfill his dreams, Reed shifted his focus and poured all his energy into managing his health and educating himself on the disease.

Reed’s tenacity and ‘never quit’ attitude has allowed him the good fortune to return to the race car and use his racing platform and personal story to inspire others living with T1D to continue living life to its fullest.

Reed’s off-track goodwill has made him a National Celebrity Advocate of JDRF, the world’s largest funder of research toward curing, treating and preventing T1D and its complications.

Ryan's Mission (Ryan Reed)

“JDRF has an amazing group of people that are involved in the organization. We’ve been working with them locally, and on a national level more recently. I feel like part of the family whenever we do events together,” said Ryan. “I just feel so fortunate that I can inspire others and create such a positive atmosphere after being diagnosed with a life-long disease.”

Today, Reed is only one of three professional race car drivers in the world to compete at the highest levels of racing with T1D. Indy Racing League driver, Charlie Kimball was diagnosed with T1D in 2007. The two drivers not only share the same circumstances but also share the same doctor, Dr. Anne Peters, MD of USC Clinical Diabetes Program in California.

Reed’s partnership with JDRF will be prominently on display when his JDRF themed racecar is unveiled next week when the ARCA Racing Series returns to Daytona.

To commemorate this historic moment, Reed teamed up with NASCAR’s first officially licensed artist and design icon, Sam Bass to create the paint scheme for Reed’s JDRF car.

Although Bass has designed hundreds of paint schemes for many of today’s NASCAR superstars, the JDRF project with Ryan Reed has a very personal meaning to the motorsports artist.

Like Reed, Sam Bass is also living with T1D. He was diagnosed in 1992.

Bass used this opportunity and his heart to design a show piece and leave his personal imprint on this project to help create more awareness to JDRF and the millions of people affected by this life-long disease.

“I am thrilled to be working with such a talented, young, up and coming driver as Ryan Reed,” said Sam Bass. “His partnership with JDRF has a tremendously special meaning to me, as I also have type 1 diabetes, and have dealt with the disease all of my life. I can relate first hand to the goals and initiatives JDRF has set to help people living with diabetes, and to find a cure. JDRF does very impactful work, and I am extremely proud to assist them in their marketing efforts with the Venturini Motorsports Team and Ryan.”

While November is the official National Diabetes Awareness Month on a worldwide initiative, February marks a significant month for diabetes in Ryan’s life.

Ryan was diagnosed with T1D in February 2011 and 1-year later he will be running the JDRF painted racecar for the first time at Daytona International Speedway in honor of everyone that is affected by T1D.

Practice for the season-opening race starts on Thursday, February 16, while qualifying is Friday, February 17 at 2pm. The race, scheduled to be televised live by SPEED-TV, is Saturday, February 18 at 4:30pm ET.

Poole, hoping to chase down his next championship, will drive the team’s flagship No. 25 Adcetera / Venturini Motorsports Chevrolet in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season-opening Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona International Speedway. The 20 year-old driver will make his Daytona International Speedway debut with Venturini Motorsports (VMS), with Billy Venturini as the team’s crew chief.

“Brennan has been impressive every time he’s been in the seat for VMS,” Venturini said. “He tested well in December and has been preparing for this race the entire off-season. I think he’s got a great shot, and we expect him to shine at Daytona.”

In just four selected ARCA Series starts with Venturini Motorsports, the Woodlands, Texas, native has captured a series victory (Salem Speedway) and a pole award (Pocono Raceway) and has led laps in all but one of his series starts.

Brennan Poole

“We’ve had a lot of success at every step, but to race for a storied team like Venturini Motorsports, especially at Daytona, certainly is the highlight,” Poole said. “The Venturinis have high standards and very high expectations every time they go to Daytona. It’s my job not to let them down.”

Nicknamed “The Bull,” Poole was the 2002 Quarter Midget Grand National Champion, and he followed that up by winning 42 of 61 Pro National Legends races and the national race of champions feature in 2006. He also was the 2009 UARA-STARS Rookie of the Year and 2011 UARA-STARS Champion. He has won 10 times in the past two UARA-STARS seasons.

Poole’s car will be painted in a retro color scheme originally used by Billy Venturini during his 10-year driving career.

Practice for the season-opening race starts on Thursday, Feb. 16, while qualifying is Friday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. The race, scheduled to be televised live by SPEED-TV, is Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET.

“The ARCA racing series gives me the best opportunity to make the transition into stock car racing and prepare me for NASCAR Tucks or Nationwide racing in the future. Venturini’s reputation and the success they’ve had working with many drivers was a major factor in my decision to join the team and the series,” says Canache.

Canache, a native of Caracas, Venezuela is a standout driver on the international stage and is ready to take the next big step in his professional racing career under the guidance of VMS’s competition director, Billy Venturini.

“It’s an honor to represent my country and build more awareness to US stock car racing. I feel I have the support of everyone back home and look forward to making them proud,” added Canache.

“It’s going to be a challenge but working with the best team gives me the confidence I need to succeed at this level and prepare myself for the future. I have limited oval racing experience; every week will be a challenge and test me physically and mentally. Driving for Venturini gives me the best chance to learn and show people here in the states my skills.”

Canache, who spent his 2011 season competing in the Seat Leon Super Cup in Mexico and the NASCAR Whelen All American Series under the Lee Faulk Racing banner, is now looking to bolster his racing resume and pursue the highest ranks of American stock car racing.

“There’s no question ARCA and NASCAR has attracted world class talent to our sport. Nelson has proven himself as an international driver and comes to our team with tremendous talent and determination to succeed at this level in a relatively unknown series. He’s a true professional and student of his craft; he’s eager to learn and unwilling to fall back on past accomplishments,” says Billy Venturini. I expect him to fit into our program well and compete strongly against his competition.

Canache will drive full time for Venturini; competing in all 20 events listed on ARCA’s 60th Anniversary Season schedule, making his ARCA debut on February 18th at Daytona International Speedway.

ARCA, considered the most diverse racing series on the planet, is the only touring series to include a variety of style race tracks to test the skills and preparation of both drivers and teams competing. ARCA’s schedule showcases a mix of speedway (1.5 mile+), short track (1 mile or less), dirt track and road course events to determine a national champion.

Canache, who participated in a Chevrolet – Venturini Motorsports prepared car left a solid impression after three days of ARCA Racing Series testing at the famed Daytona International Speedway. Canache finished the weekend with a fast time of 48.212 seconds (186.676 mph), securing the 7th fastest lap time (out of 53 drivers) of the entire weekend test session.

Venturini Motorsports unloaded 5 cars in all during the December test and posted the top speed overall with Alex Bowman’s 188.336 mph lap. Venturini cars finished the weekend test session with all 5 cars inside the top-7 positions.

In addition to running the ARCA series, Canache will make his first ever Rolex 24 at Daytona behind the wheel of the No.51 APR Motorsports Audi R8 Grand-Am for this year’s 24 hour classic. Canache will join teammates, including ‘Endurance Race’ icon, Emanuele Pirro, Dion Von Moltke, Ian Baas and Dr. Jim Norman.

Canache will also join Ian Baas in the No.41 APR Tuned Audi S4 in the Grand-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS class leading up to the Rolex 24.

Canache will make his ARCA Racing debut with an added sense of national pride, when the series returns to Daytona International Speedway on February 18th for the season opening event, driving the No.35 Venturini prepared – Venezuela sponsored Chevrolet. The event will be televised live on SPEED Channel starting at 4:30 EST. Check your local times and listings for broadcast information.

International flair nothing new to Venturini Motorsports as the team’s on-track success has attracted drivers from all over the globe. In 2011 the team featured a total of 21 different drivers including four import drivers; Steve Arpin (Canada), Miguel Paludo (Brazil), George Meideke (Australia) and Ali Jackson (Ireland). Arpin and Paludo are both competing in the ranks of NASCAR in 2012.

About Venturini Motorsports

Venturini Motorsports (VMS), fielding cars in the ARCA Racing Series, is one of the premier NASCAR driver development programs in the country. The 2012 season marks the teams 30th Anniversary of competition in the ARCA Series. Multiple team championships and consistent on-track success, VMS has evolved into one of the most recognizable names in motorsports.

Since 2007, VMS has assisted in the career development of notable NASCAR drivers such as Joey Logano, Justin Allgaier, Steve Arpin, Brian Scott, Max Gresham, Miguel Paludo, Josh Richards, Mikey Kile and Scott Lagasse, Jr.

Lucas, who has spent the past two seasons as the race engineer for the No. 18 team, replaces Jason Ratcliff, who was named crew chief for JGR’s No. 20 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team last month. Lucas’ background in racing is deep with extensive experience as an engineer and mechanic in NASCAR as well as CART and IndyCar racing.

“Matt has done a great job for us the past two years and he will provide the team continuity going into next season,” said J.D. That team has been one of the best in the Nationwide Series over the past several years and we look forward to Matt continuing to build upon that success.”

“I am excited about the opportunity to lead our No. 18 team going into next season,” said Lucas. “We have a tremendous group of guys on this team and throughout our Nationwide shop and we plan to continue to deliver the type of success our sponsors expect and deserve.”

Lucas spent five seasons as a race engineer with Penske Racing prior to joining Roush Fenway. In addition, he has extensive experience in racing as a mechanic having worked with A.J. Foyt Racing in IndyCar and Dan Gurney’s All-American Racers in CART.

He is a graduate of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio and currently lives in Mooresville, N.C.

Ryan will compete in selective 2012 events under the Venturini banner in preparation for a full season effort. Ryan Reed, at the age of 18, will make his ARCA Racing Series debut at Daytona Int’l Speedway on February 18th, 2012.

Ryan Reed, originally from Bakersfield, CA moved across the country by himself at the age of 17 to Mooresville, NC in order to surround himself with the racing community.

In February 2011, Ryan was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as he was preparing his move to North Carolina but he didn’t let that slow him down. The aspiring young NASCAR driver completed his move to North Carolina to pursue his driving career professionally.

Ryan Reed

Since February, Ryan has had to change almost everything about his daily routine: diet, exercise, blood glucose readings, on track data, and reporting all of this information weekly to his medical / nutritional team in California.

Focusing on his commitment and determination, Ryan has set records and compiled an impressive list of racing accomplishments. As an outspoken diabetic who puts his passion for racing into “Ryan’s Mission,” helps build awareness and support for people with diabetes around the world.

Since the age of 4, Ryan has moved up through the racing structure with high levels of success and 5 racing Championships in his career. Ryan has continued to show his ability and talent on and off the track.

In 2009, Ryan became the Legends Division Track Champion at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Irwindale, CA). Ryan backed up his Championship the following year at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale by becoming the 2010 Rookie-of-the-Year in the Super Late Model Division. He took home one win in the 2010 season becoming the youngest winner at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale in the Super Late Model Divison.

In 2011 season, Reed raced in many different series, racing surfaces, tracks, and cars, including the Pro Allstars Series, NASCAR Whelen All American and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. The diversity of racing in the 2011 will better prepare Ryan for the variety of tracks that the ARCA Racing Series offers; including superspeedways, intermediate tracks, short tracks, and a road course.

Ryan Reed looks to achieve high levels of success with the Venturini Motorsports development platform to showcase his talent and put him in position to achieve his professional goals.

Venturini Motorsports, fielding cars in the ARCA Racing Series, is one of the premier NASCAR Driver Development Programs in the country. (November 21, 2011) – Rusty Wallace Racing driver Michael Annett closed out his 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series campaign as the ninth place contender in the championship points standings. The 25-year-old Des Moines, Iowa native looks forward to continuing his partnership with both Rusty Wallace Racing and his sponsor, Pilot Flying J, in 2012.

Saturday night’s Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway was the last of 34 races on the 2011 circuit. With new partner Combos onboard with Pilot Flying J, Annett headed into the 200 lap event eighth in the championship point race with just six markers separating him from ninth place Brian Scott. After securing a 15th place start, Annett’s goal for the night was to stay ahead of Scott to finish out the season as the eighth place driver in points.

The No. 62 Rusty Wallace Racing pit crew made their first stop of the day under a competition caution on lap 36. Gaining three spots on pit road, Annett was placed in 11th for the restart on lap 39.

Struggling with a loose-to-tight handling racecar, Annett fought lap after lap for top-10 track position. As other cars began to pit around lap 90, crew chief Rick Viers had the No. 62 car stay out for a few more laps. The yellow flag came out on lap 92 and Annett was positioned third on the leaderboard. In for another four-tire stop, he restarted eighth on lap 97.

The caution was back out on lap 130. In order to gain an extra point, Viers kept Annett out on the track to lead lap 134. On lap 135, the No. 62 Pilot Flying J/Combos crew changed four tires, refueled and made a wedge adjustment to their Camry. Annett’s Toyota was back out on the track in 17th for the restart.

The field ran nine laps under green before the track returned to yellow flag conditions. While most cars pitted, Annett stayed out and restarted second with 47 laps to go. The caution was back out on lap 174, and 10th place Annett reported that although he was battling cars with four fresh tires, his last run was the most consistent that the car had been all night. Back in for four Goodyears and fuel, he restarted 11th with 21 laps remaining.

On lap 188, the No. 09 car spun across the track and caught the right front corner of the No. 62 Pilot Flying J/Combos Camry bringing out the last of nine cautions. Before the yellow, Annett was in position to hold onto his eighth place points position. He battled out the final laps with a damaged splitter and a right front tire going down, leaving a strong night to end with a disappointing 19th place finish that knocked him back to ninth in the standings, a mere three points behind eighth place Scott.

Michael Annett

“It’s really unfortunate that we weren’t able to hold onto eighth in points, but there was nothing we could do in those last several laps. The damage we suffered from the No. 09 held us back like a parachute,” said Annett, “I’m really proud of the amount of effort and hard work Rick Viers and our whole team put forth this season. A huge thank you goes out to Combos and Mars Inc. for partnering with Pilot Flying J this weekend at Homestead. I really appreciate all of the continued support Pilot Flying J has given me throughout my racing career and look forward to teaming with them again next season. We’ve got some really exciting things coming up the pike for 2012, and I can’t wait to get back to Daytona in February.”

Miami 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway

November 19, 2011

Race Highlights:

· Brian Scott and the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota Team picked up the 11th starting position for the NASCAR Nationwide Series finale in Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday afternoon. The Shore Lodge Toyota was a little too free for Scott during qualifying so the team went into Saturday’s race with a plan to tighten the car at the first opportunity.

· The loose-handling issue on the Shore Lodge Toyota was a problem during the first several laps of the race but Scott struggled more with the restarts – an issue exacerbated by the loose-handling problem. As a result, Scott was back in the 13th position by the time the competition caution waved at lap 35.

· A super-fast pit stop by the No. 11 Shore Lodge crew placed Scott in the sixth position for the restart at lap 39. The loose-handling issue persisted during the next run however and Scott once again found himself losing a handful of positions. The team elected to make a track bar adjustment during the next stop at lap 90 while also changing four tires and adding fuel.

· Scott was once again running in the 13th position by the time the field reached the halfway point in the race so the team took another swing at the adjustments on the car during a stop under caution at lap 131. Scott restarted the race from the 10th position and from that point on, would never drop further than the 11th position.

· A series of cautions would come out during the final 25 laps of the race. The Shore Lodge Toyota team made its final stop of the race during the seventh caution at lap 175. Scott restarted the race from the 10th position. As the laps wound down, Scott battled his way to the ninth position where he was running when the checkered flag finally waved.

· Scott’s Joe Gibbs Racing Teammates Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano finished the race in the fifth and 10th positions, respectively.

· The team’s ninth-place finish on Saturday evening moved Scott back up to eighth place in the final 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series driver point standings. Ricky Stenhouse Jr., finished second in Saturday’s race and captured the 2011 Nationwide Series driver championship.

“I’ll take a top 10 to end the year. We fought hard ever since Daytona. We didn’t have the performance or the results that we wanted until about the middle of the year. This team – we flipped the switch. Kevin (Kidd, crew chief) and I really got on the same page and we started having good runs. We were a pretty good team the second half of the year. Definitely performed the last quarter of the year with some top-five finishes, and got a pole at Chicago. We’re going to focus really on the last part of the year and continue to build and do the things that we started doing at the middle of the year that will make us better to come back in 2012 and be even stronger.

I don’t see any reason why this team can’t make the progress through the off-season and come back with the yellow and black Dollar General car and have a team good enough to run for the championship. I feel like Kevin Kidd (crew chief) and I have a relationship that is on really good terms. We’re really communicating well. We’re going to continue to work through the off-season just as hard – if not harder – than we worked all year. Come back and be a really strong team.”

Homestead-Miami Speedway – November 19, 2011

- Denny Hamlin (fifth) was the highest finishing Toyota driver in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

- Camry drivers Brian Scott (ninth) and Joey Logano (10th) also earned top-10 finishes in the 200-lap event.

- Other Toyota drivers in the field included Joe Nemechek (16th), Michael Annett (19th), Kevin Conway (26th), Kenny Wallace (33rd) and Steve Wallace (34th).

- Four Camry drivers finished among the top-10 in the unofficial NNS driver point standings — K. Wallace (seventh), Scott (eighth), Annett (ninth), and S. Wallace (10th).

- Camry drivers earned 10 wins and five pole positions during the 2011 season. Toyota has recorded 64 victories and 54 poles since joining the series in 2007.

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 5th

How was your race?

“We struggled with our race car all day long and we had very limited practice time with the rain. Just didn’t have it today. It looked like all of the Roush cars were extremely strong. We just didn’t have the car that could hang with them in the end.”

How happy were you with your pit crew in tonight’s race?

“Yeah, this pit crew gave us a shot at it, no doubt about it. They were just an amazing pit crew. When you can gain us three spots and a clutch position like that, they deserve a lot of credit. They’re the ones who gave us a shot at it anyway.”

How are you feeling going into the Sprint Cup race on Sunday after two races so far this weekend?

“Good. I feel like we’re making strides. We just have got to keep digging. We’re a little off right now. As an organization I feel like we need to be better. Obviously, we’ve got a ways to go, but just have to thank everyone from Z- Line Designs for putting me in the car and obviously this whole 18 team for putting me in. Jim and Monica (Sexton, Z- Line Design owners) have done a lot for this program. FedEx, Toyota, Coca-Cola, Gillette and Wiley X. Couldn’t do it without everyone.”

Did you think you had a chance to beat the 60 car tonight to give Joe Gibbs Racing the owner’s championship?

“Carl (Edwards) had an extremely strong car. It looked like all of their cars were really good today. We just struggled with our Z-Line Designs Toyota. We felt like for the most part we had a fifth to seventh-place car for most of the day. It’s kind of where we ended up. The pit crew did an amazing job at least giving me a shot at it there at the end. We just couldn’t hang on. We just didn’t have the car for it today.”

Were you unhappy with the way your car handled during the race?

“I wish we had some more practice time. We were banking on that second practice. We just didn’t get enough track time with this car this weekend. We struggled. We struggled all day and just could not get the speed out of it that we needed. We ended up fifth.”

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 9th

Are you happy finishing the year with a top-10?

“I’ll take a top-10 to end the year. We fought hard ever since Daytona. We didn’t have the performance or the results that we wanted until about the middle of the year. This team — we flipped the switch.

We’re going to continue to work through the off-season just as hard — if not harder — than we worked all year. Come back and be a really strong team.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 10th

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 97 AM / FM Energy Pellet & Wood Stoves Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports

Finishing Position: 16th

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 62 Pilot Flying J Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 19th

How would you look back at the 2011 season?

“Someone asked me the grade that I’d give this season — and I’d probably say a C+ — just because we started off so slow and behind. We made up a lot of ground throughout the summer and fell back behind it, and then made more gains. We know there are places we can make a lot of improvement in our program — mile-and-a-half tracks especially. So, that’s something we’re really going to work on in the off-season and come back on board with Rusty Wallace Racing and the No. 62. Hopefully, some more partners will come on board and help Steven’s (Wallace) car a little bit and that way can have a strong two car effort after the off-season.”

KEVIN CONWAY, No. 87 Extenze Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports

Finishing Position: 25th

KENNY WALLACE, No. 09 Federated Auto Parts Toyota Camry, RAB Racing with Brack Maggard

Finishing Position: 33rd

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 34th

Kahne led the final 14 laps en route to victory lane at the recently redesigned one-mile Phoenix track. It was his first win in a Camry, and it also marked the first win for the Red Bull Racing Team this season. The 31-year-old Enumclaw, Wash., native has put together a strong finish to the current campaign, registering top-10 finishes in six of the past seven Sprint Cup Series races. The victory was the first for a Camry driver in the NSCS at Phoenix International Raceway and it was also the fourth win for a TRD-built engine.

PHOENIX FLASHBACK: Along with Kahne’s win, Camry driver David Reutimann also earned a top-10 result at the one-mile Phoenix race track with a seventh-place result. In Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Phoenix, Joey Logano was the highest-finishing Toyota driver with a fourth-place result. Camry drivers Ryan Truex (eighth) and Michael Annett (10th) also registered top-10 finishes at the Arizona oval. In six races driving for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) during the 2011 season, Truex recorded four top-10 results and never finished lower than 13th-place.

SEASON-FINALE CHASE RACE: Sunday’s NSCS race at Homestead-Miami Speedway is the 10th and final race in the 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup championship playoff. Camry drivers Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin have both competed in this year’s Chase. Hamlin sits 10th in the standings, 110 points behind series leader Carl Edwards, and Busch is 12th, 135 points back.

HOMESTEAD HIGHLIGHTS: Hamlin earned the first NSCS win at Homestead for Toyota in 2009, leading the field three times for a race-high 71 laps (of 267). Hamlin has posted three top-three finishes in six career starts at Homestead. JGR teammate and fellow Chase competitor Busch recorded his only top-10 finish in six starts at Homestead with an eighth- place result that year. Camry drivers have earned two poles at the 1.5-mile oval — Reutimann in 2008 and Kahne earned the pole last year. Last year, Kahne led the first 10 laps and fellow Camry driver Martin Truex Jr. led the field six times for 62 laps.

TRIPLE PLAY: Hamlin will compete in all three NASCAR races in the same weekend for the first time in his career at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Hamlin is set to drive the Kyle Busch Motorsports No. 18 Tundra in Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race and will then climb behind the wheel of the JGR No. 18 Camry in the NNS race on Saturday to help JGR battle for the Nationwide Series owner’s championship. He will then pilot the No. 11 Camry in the season-ending NSCS event Sunday at the 1.5-mile oval.

TUNDRA TALLY: Tundra drivers have had a great deal of success in NCWTS competition at Homestead, winning four of the seven NCWTS races they have competed in at the track, including victories by Busch (2010), Todd Bodine (2008 and 2005) and Johnny Benson (2007). Tundra drivers have also captured the pole position four times with Reutimann earning back-to-back poles in 2004 and 2005, and Mike Skinner captured the top starting spot at Homestead in 2008 and 2006.

NOTES, QUOTES & NUMBERS

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS): Since the start of the 2011 season, Toyota drivers have combined for six victories, 38 top-five results, 75 top-10 finishes and have led 2,473 laps … Red Bull Racing Team will field a third Camry race car for the second straight week at Homestead with Cole Whitt … Whitt earned a 25th-place finish in his NSCS debut last Sunday at Phoenix … Former University of Miami walk-on quarterback Trey Burklin is the jack man for the Red Bull Racing Team No. 4 Camry … Kyle Busch will run a TRD-built engine in the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 Camry at Homestead.

KASEY KAHNE, No. 4 Red Bull Camry, Red Bull Racing Team

How has your team been able to run so strong at the end of the season? “We’re lucky that everybody is working hard and has stayed after it, preparing great race cars. We’re bringing awesome cars to the track. I wouldn’t say there’s anyone out there that’s building better cars at this time. The Red Bull guys are doing an awesome job and they haven’t given up. I think it’s just the people. They’re doing a great job and we’ve been able to stay focused. I love racing. If I’m in a race car, I want to do the best that I can. Kenny Francis (crew chief) has given me some cars in the last few months that we’ve been able to perform with and run with Carl (Edwards) and Tony (Stewart), who have been probably the two best.”

What does it mean to possibly get the Red Bull Racing Team its last win as an organization? “It feels really good. Hopefully, it’s not their last win. I think we’re going to have a shot at Homestead too. I’m looking forward to Homestead. It feels great to get a win for Red Bull and get a win in the No. 4 car. It’s something new for both of us to come over and have a one-year deal. It takes time to get familiar with things and the people and working together. To win a race at this level, as competitive as everything is right now, for myself, to see how happy all the pit crew guys were, the guys preparing the race cars at Red Bull, it was pretty cool. Makes you feel pretty good to be part of that.”

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Express Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What do you need to work on at Joe Gibbs Racing to get ready for 2012? “I think everyone is ready to do what it takes. One thing about Joe Gibbs (team owner) is he’s never short on resources. If we feel like we need to get something and we don’t have it, he’ll go buy it and go do it. He’s one of those owners where he’ll do whatever it takes, hire whoever he has to hire, and I feel like that’s hard to come by in our sport. You’re not going to hold down JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing) for so long. They’ve done a really good job over the last 20 years of existence of staying one of the elite race teams and they will in the future.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What does it take to be fast at Homestead? “It’s been a good track to us in the first third of a race, but then in the last two thirds it’s been tough. I like going to Homestead. To be fast there, you have to be able to get your car comfortable getting into the corner — that’s the biggest thing. The corners there, you can build so much speed through them that you have to be comfortable carrying that speed into the corner just as much as coming out of it.”

MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 56 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing

How much do you want to win a race? “A win this year would be huge, it’s not over yet. We’ve been in position this year to have a shot at winning two or three of these things and we just haven’t taken advantage of it. We’ve had good speed in our cars and it’s just a matter of us racing smarter, being better prepared and making better decisions. I’m confident in this team and that we can get the job done. Homestead last year was probably our best run of the year. We led a bunch until we got a flat. It would be awesome to close the year out with a win.”

NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS): During the 2011 season, Toyota drivers have combined for 10 wins, 37 top-five results, 83 top-10 finishes and have led 1,610 laps … Kenny Wallace (seventh) is the top Toyota driver in the NNS point standings … Michael Annett (eighth), Brian Scott (ninth) and Steve Wallace (10th) are also in the top-10 in points … Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 18 Camry team leads the NNS owner championship standings by one point going into Homestead.

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

How would you evaluate your first season at Joe Gibbs Racing? “The first half of the season we really weren’t finishing and running to our expectations. We had good performances fairly often, but we were never there to capitalize on it at the finish. We scratched up a lot of good race cars. Then, in the sec ond half of the season, we’ve done much better and we’ve really come a long way with this whole team. It gets me fired up because of how we’ve been running lately going into next year and having a legitimate shot at being a title contender.”

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS): Since the start of the 2011 NCWTS season, Tundra drivers have registered nine wins, 34 top-five results, 71 top-10 finishes and have led 1,111 laps … After 24 races, Timothy Peters (fifth) is the top Toyota driver in the NCWTS points standings … Tundra drivers Todd Bodine (sixth), Brendan Gaughan (12th), David Starr (13th), Miguel Paludo (17th) and Max Papis (18th) are also in the top-20 in the points … The Toyota Tundra will make its 200th NCWTS start this weekend at Homestead since joining series competition in 2004 … Bryan Berry, crew chief on the Germain Racing No. 62 Tundra, hails from Homestead, Fla. … NASCAR Mexico Series Champion German Quiroga will make his second career NCWTS start at Homestead in the Kyle Busch Motorsports No. 51 Tundra.

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 Tire Kingdom/Service Central Toyota Tundra, Germain Racing

Are you looking forward to racing at Homestead? “I’m excited about getting to Homestead with the momentum this team has built in the last few weeks. We hope to finish off the year strong. The racing groove has really opened up a lot. You can run around the top, bottom, or middle. It gives the driver and the crew chief a lot of options for chassis setup and chassis adjustments. One thing about Homestead is that it’s not like any other 1.5-mile track on the circuit. There’s no dog-leg, so the corner entry and exit is different than any other intermediate track we race.”

5-Hour Energy Team News and Notes

This Week’s 5 Hour Energy Toyota … Steve Wallace will pilot Rusty Wallace Racing chassis RWR-070 in Saturday afternoon’s Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Built new for the 2011 season, this Toyota Camry debuted at Texas Motor Speedway earlier this month, where Wallace finished 18th.

Looking Back at 2011 … Heading into the final race of the season, Wallace has accumulated two top-five, five top-10 and 15 top-15 finishes, an average start of 13.9 and an average finish of 16.5 in 33 races thus far in 2011. The 24-year-old driver has led six laps of competition and has completed 6,065 of the 6,197 (97.9 percent) laps contested thus far.

Get to the Points … A less-than-desired 29th-place finish at Phoenix International Raceway last week dropped Wallace one position, to 10th, in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver point standings. After the 33rd race of the 2011 season, the 24-year-old driver trails eighth-place driver and Rusty Wallace Racing teammate Michael Annett by seven markers, and ninth-place Brian Scott by a single point.

Homestead Facts … In five NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Wallace boasts one top-10 finish. His best finish, eighth, came when the series visited the 1.5-mile oval in November, 2009. The Greensboro, N.C., native has an average starting position of 17th and an average finish of 18.8.

Welcome Aboard … Rusty Wallace Racing and 5-Hour Energy are pleased to feature Circle K on the TV panel and Sedanos on the lower rear quarter panels of the No. 66 Toyota this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Rusty Wallace Racing at Homestead … In 10 combined NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Rusty Wallace Racing entries have earned one top-five and three top-10 finishes with three different drivers including Brendan Gaughan, Jamie McMurray and Steve Wallace. McMurray’s second-place run in November 2004 is Rusty Wallace Racing’s best effort at the mile-and-a-half oval. Additionally, Rusty Wallace Racing entries have led one lap of competition and have completed 1,963 of the 2,003 (98 percent) laps contested in those events.

Rusty Wallace Racing in 2011 … With 33 of 34 races completed thus far in the 2011 season, Rusty Wallace Racing’s three NASCAR Nationwide Series entries have recorded a combined three top-five, 13 top 10 and 32 top-15 finishes. Rusty Wallace Racing Toyotas have completed 13,195 of 13,619 laps attempted, and have been atop the leaderboard for 21 laps with drivers Michael Annett, Jason Bowles, David Reutimann and Steve Wallace.

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend’s race. It’s been a very difficult year for the 5-Hour Energy team. The new Nationwide Series car really threw us for a loop. As soon as this race ends, we can start working on our program for 2012. But, we’ll give it all we’ve got for one more time in 2011, we’ll go out and try to finish the season with a strong run.” - Steve Wallace on racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Michael Annett up Two Spots in Points Race: Last week’s top-10 finish moved driver Michael Annett from 10th to eighth in the Nationwide Series championship point standings. He heads into the 2011 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway six points ahead of ninth place Brian Scott and seven points ahead of his teammate Steve Wallace who sits in 10th. Annett’s 10th place finish at Phoenix tallied his seventh top-10 finish of the season and Rusty Wallace Racing’s 13th top-10 finish in 2011.

Combos and Pilot Flying J Partner for Homestead: Mars Inc. brand Combos will join Pilot Flying J on Annett’s No. 62 car this weekend for the last Nationwide Series race of the season. The No. 62 car will feature a bag of combos on the rear quarter panel with the treats spilling out across the back of the car. The featured flavor of these stuffed pretzel snacks is buffalo blue cheese. In conjunction with the Pilot Flying J and Combos partnership for the Homestead race, Pilot Travel Centers and Flying J locations are offering a two for $4 promotion on assorted flavors of Combos through the end of November.

Racing to Save Lives: Annett will continue his support of his choice charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, by again sporting their logo and website on his No. 62 Pilot Flying J/Combos Toyota Camry at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This weekend the logo will run in honor of nine-year-old St. Jude patient Lucas Solberg. Lucas’ family’s first sign that he had a problem was when the Miami, Florida child suffered from stomach problems. In a visit to a local emergency room, doctors ran tests and found Lucas to be affected by rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive soft tissue tumor that can arise virtually anywhere in the body. Lucas underwent chemotherapy and surgery to remove the bulk of the tumor in Miami, and the Solberg family decided on St. Jude after the surgery for radiation and chemotherapy treatment. He finished his treatment in May 2004 and now visits St. Jude for regular checkups.

Rusty Wallace Racing at Homestead: In 10 combined NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Rusty Wallace Racing entries have earned one top-five and three top-10 finishes. The organization’s best finish on the 1.5 mile oval was driver Jamie McMurray’s second-place run in November 2004. Rusty Wallace Racing entries have completed 1,963 of the 2,003 (98 percent) laps contested in those events.

Laura Palenkas, Vice President of Marketing, Pilot Flying J, on the Combos and Pilot Flying J partnership for Homestead:

“Mars Inc. is already one of our great retail partners, and this is the first time we have partnered with an in-store brand on our race car. Since Combos is one of the most popular snack foods at our Pilot Flying J travel centers, it’s a natural tie and we are thrilled to have them on board. This partnership called for more than just a logo decal. We worked hard to make Combos a part of our look and give Mars Inc. great on-track exposure. I think everyone is pleased. We think Michael Annett and our new Mars partnership is a winning combo. It is a great way to finish the year and get a jump start on our planning for next season.”

Michael Annett on the Combos / Pilot Flying J partnership:

“We’re very excited to co-brand our Camry with Combos and Pilot Flying J this weekend at Homestead. It’s great to see such a well-respected brand team with Pilot Flying J on our racecar. We’re very excited to add Mars Inc. and Combos to our list of 2011 partners, and hope to carry this relationship into the 2012 Nationwide Series season. My main goal this weekend is to hold onto eighth in the points race and give Combos, Pilot Flying J and Rusty Wallace Racing the strong finish they deserve.”

Crew chief Rick Viers on the 2011 season coming to a close:

“Every member of the team has worked extremely hard this season and we’re well prepared for our final race in Homestead. Michael is a smart driver and I can’t even begin to express how proud I am of him and each of the guys who work on this car week in and week out. Our engineer, Jason Stockert, has been a huge asset to the team and Ryan McKinney, Brian Gainey, Dan Vincent, Dennis O’Connor and all of our guys back at the shop have given a great deal of effort into building a strong No. 62 team. I thank each one of those guys for all of their hard work and support this year. Michael’s holding onto eighth in driver points with a small gap between ninth and 10th. In the last 21 races, we’ve moved up five spots in the owner points race, more than any other team has in the owners standings. We’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished and we’re looking forward to showing our strength again this weekend in Homestead.”

The Machines:

Team 62 Primary: RWR-059 – RWR’s No. 62 team most recently raced car 059 at Texas Motor Speedway. The team has also competed in this car at Iowa Speedway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Nashville Superspeedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway and Michigan International Speedway in 2011.

Team 62 Back-Up: RWR-051 – The No. 62 Pilot Flying J team’s last race competing with this chassis was at Bristol Motor Speedway in March.

Miami 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway

No. 11 Shore Lodge Team Notes of Interest

· Brian Scott and the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota team go into this weekend’s finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on a mission. After getting taken out of last week’s race at Phoenix International Raceway on the first lap, Scott lost a spot in the driver point standings and was prevented from contending for a win. The team will look to turn that around during this weekend’s 300-mile race in Homestead, Fla.

· The No. 11 Shore Lodge Team went into last weekend’s Wypall 200 with high expectations after performing so well in race trim during the practice sessions on Thursday. Scott qualified in the 24th place but was hit from behind on the first lap of the event and sent spinning into the inside retaining wall. The car was damaged beyond repair forcing the team to retire from the race without having completed a full lap of competition.

· The DNF in Phoenix dropped Scott a position in the driver point standings. He is now sitting in ninth place in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver point standings, a mere six points behind Michael Annett in eighth place.

· This weekend’s race in Miami will be only Scott’s second Nationwide Series start at the 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway. Scott made his lone Nationwide Series start at the track one year ago when he scored an 18th-place finish after starting from the 30th position.

· In addition to the one start in Nationwide Series competition at Miami, Scott has three starts in Camping World Truck Series competition at Miami. In three Truck Series starts at the track, Scott has finished no worse than 15th place and has a best finish of second place. Scott finished second during the Truck Series finale in 2008 after starting from the 15th position. Scott’s average Miami finish in Truck Series competition is ninth place.

· Chassis #122 is the car Scott will race during the Nationwide Series finale this weekend. Chassis #122 has been a successful chassis for the No. 11 Shore Lodge Team. This car most recently was used by the team a month ago during the Dollar General 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway where Scott scored a fifth-place finish. The car was also raced to successful results during the spring race at Charlotte (eighth-place finish) and Texas in April (10th-place finish). The backup car for the race will be Chassis #128. This car has been raced as a primary a handful of times in 2011 at tracks that includes Dover, Atlanta and Michigan.

What happened last week at Phoenix?

“Well, we had a fast car even though our qualifying effort didn’t show it. I got really loose making my run so that kind of put us behind a little bit and then, we go out on the first lap and get hit from behind and that ended our day. So we are going into this weekend’s race looking to get back that momentum this team has been building and use that going into the off season.”

Talk about this week’s race in Miami:

“I actually really like racing in Miami. It’s one of those tracks that I have just taken to and really seems to suit my driving style. Obviously I had some great runs in the Camping World Truck Series competition and that really gives me a lot of confidence going there this weekend with this No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Team. We’ve been working so well here this last half of the season and it just really pumps me up as a driver. I’m kind of bummed it’s the last race and we don’t get to go out and do what we love for a couple of months but it’s been a great year and with everything we have built this year I am just so excited to get back at it in Daytona in February.”

Wypall 200 at Phoenix International Raceway

November 12, 2011

Race Highlights:

* Brian Scott and the Shore Lodge Team tested all day on Thursday at the newly configured Phoenix International Raceway in preparation for Saturday’s event. On Friday in the final NASCAR Nationwide Series practice, the team was top five on the speed chart and had one of the most consistent cars on the track.

* Scott went out 43rd in qualifying, but the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota was extremely loose on his attempt. His lap time earned him the 24th starting spot for the 200-lap race.

Brian Scott

* Despite the starting spot, Scott and the Shore Lodge Team were extremely optimistic about the race. Unfortunately they never had the opportunity to race. On the green-flag lap, Scott was hooked in the left rear and sent spinning into the wall. Scott took the mandatory trip to the care center and was treated and released without injury. The No. 11 Toyota however was beyond repair and the team was unable to get it back on the track. Scott was scored in the 41st position.

* Scott sits ninth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver standings with one race remaining on the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule. He is six points behind Michael Annett in eighth place. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has a 41 point lead in the standings over Elliott Sadler in second heading into the season finale.

Next Up: Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway
