South Boston, Va….. Philip Morris extended his already massive lead in the chase for the South Boston Speedway title by sweeping the pair of 75-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division races that headlined Saturday night’s American National Presents Charles Anderson Lawn Care Night Twin 75s racing program.

The pair of wins gives him a South Boston Speedway single-season record 16 wins and keeps him in contention for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Championship.

Morris survived a tough battle with South Boston, Va. resident Bruce Anderson in the first race, which had a 52-lap green-flag run to the finish following the last of the race’s two caution periods. His margin of victory was 1.538 seconds.

Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C., the points leader at Motor Mile Speedway and one of the top contenders for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Championship, finished third. Peyton Sellers of Danville, Va. and Kyle Waltz of Newport News, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.

Morris also won the second 75-lap race, a race that featured six lead changes among three drivers that also included Anderson and Pulliam. Pulliam finished second, .491 second behind Morris following a 36-lap run to the finish that followed the last of the race’s four caution periods.

Sellers finished third with Dennis Holdren of Roanoke, Va. and Anderson rounding out the top five finishers.

Morris averaged 66.952 mph in the first race, which took 26 minutes and 53 seconds to complete. He averaged 43.325 mph in the second race, which took 41 minutes and 32 seconds to complete.

Thaxton, McCarty Split Limited Sportsman Twinbill

Austin Thaxton of Cluster Springs, Va. and Bobby McCarty of Summerfield, N.C. each picked up a win as the two drivers each won one of the night’s pair of 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division races.

Thaxton picked up his first career Limited Sportsman Division win in the first race, fending off McCarty in a 34-lap green-flag sprint to the finish that followed the race’s only caution flag.

Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va., Brian Pembelton of Amelia, Va. and Chuck Lawson of Providence, N.C. rounded out the top five finishers.

The nightcap started out as another battle between Thaxton and McCarty, but that battle ended when Thaxton spun and crashed into the second turn wall after his car and the car driven by McCarty made contact as they raced side-by-side through the second turn on a restart that followed a caution flag on lap 27.

Willis inherited second place at that point, but was unable to make a run at McCarty at the end of the race. McCarty went on to win the race by .871 second.

Justin Snow of Danville, Va. finished third, with Blake Stallings of Danville, Va. and Charles Barnes of Chase City, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

Crews Scores First Pure Stock Division Win

Nathan Crews of Long Island, Va. picked up his first race win and pole win of the season, as he scored a flag-to-flag victory in the 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

Stuart Crews of Long Island, Va., Trey Crews of Halifax, Va., Randy Hupp of Halifax. Va. and Daniel Moss of Danville, Va. followed the winner across the finish line.

Donnie Lacks Wins Southern Vintage Modified Race

Donnie Lacks of Goode, Va. took the lead from Darryl Lacks of Goode, Va. on the final restart with three laps to go and went on to win the 25-lap race for the Southern Vintage Modified Division.

Daryl Gwynn of Reidsville, N.C. finished third, with Chris Jones of Forest, Va. finishing fourth and Johnny Stovall of Madison, N.C. finishing fifth.
