(January 25, 2012) - Richard Childress Racing announced today road-course specialist Max Papis has been tapped to pilot its No. 33 Rheem/Menards Chevrolet when the NASCAR Nationwide Series visits Road America on June 23.

In addition to competing at the 14-turn road course, Papis will serve as a driver coach for fellow RCR teammates, assisting in strengthening their road-course racing skills.

“It is an honor to join a history-making team like RCR and continue what I started with Kevin Harvick Inc. the last couple of years,” stated Papis. “I feel ready to win races in NASCAR and, at the same time, I’m honored to have the chance to pass all the experience I built in my last 20 years of competition around the world to real racers like Austin Dillon and Ty Dillon and doing it with my never-give-up attitude that brought me all the way here.”

Papis, a native of Italy who now resides in North Carolina, has nine road-course races on his Nationwide Series resume with his career best finish of second coming at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in August 2009. The 2004 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series champion has also competed in six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series road-course events, posting his best finish of eighth at Watkins Glen International in the same year.

“Max is a great addition to our driver lineup and to RCR overall,” said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “He has shown his talents in many different forms of auto racing all over the world and will be able to share that knowledge with our less experienced drivers. He’s the perfect driver for the No. 33 Menards Chevrolet when the NASCAR Nationwide Series gets to Road America. Max also has a tremendous amount of enthusiasm wherever he is, at the track or the shop.”

The 2007 Petite Le Mans race winner made his NASCAR debut in 2006 when he joined the 43-car field in the Nationwide Series race at Watkins Glen International, posting a 14th-place finish. Since then, he has competed in 88 races across NASCAR’s top three national series, accumulating two-top five and seven top-10 results.

Papis is scheduled to share the No. 33 Nationwide Series ride with teammates Brendan Gaughan, Kevin Harvick, Paul Menard and Tony Stewart for the 2012 season.

For additional information on today’s announcement, and all that’s happening at RCR, please visit www.rcrracing.com.

She has been both a stunt driver and a precision driver for Honda. In 2010, however, she had an oppurtunity to drive a stock car – and her career took a different turn.

Dufault scored an opportunity to race the 2011 ARCA Series presented by Menards for the No. 12 Tony Marks Racing Dodge team. She scored one top 10-finish and put together several consistent runs, but also crashed several times, as she acclimated to the heavier handling of 1.5 ton machines. Then Dufault got a one-of-a-kind opportunity. In August, she piloted the No. 81 MacDonald Motorsports Dodge in front of a hometown crowd at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve road course, finishing 30th in a field with several fellow Candians and a race won by Aussie Marcos Ambrose. While the result was not what she wanted, Dufault’s persistence to race (she has modeled for both Maxim and been a display girl on The Price Is Right to fund her racing efforts) paid off.

As exciting as that step was, Dufault’s status for the 2012 racing season is uncertain. She tells News/Talk WSB that Jared Marks will drive the No. 12 Dodge for the ARCA Season opener at Daytona on February 8th, though she did go and help the team shake that car down at a three-day test this past weekend. Dufault says that despite the marketability of female drivers, the economy is tough on motorsports as a whole and limits everyone’s opporuntities to climb the motorsports ladder.

NASCAR has confirmed today that Montréal has been included in the 2012 Nationwide Series schedule. From 2009 to 2011, Octane Management acted as the delegated promoter of the event under the mandate of Stock-Car Montreal. With SCM no longer involved with the event, Octane Management is taking over the sanctioning rights with the approval of NASCAR.

“We are very pleased with the fact that NASCAR has entrusted our team with the sanctioning and promotional rights for the Nationwide Series race at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve,” said François Dumontier, President of Octane Management. “Ever since the introduction of NASCAR in Montréal in 2007, our team has worked very hard to promote this motorsports event in order to make Montréal, Québec and Canada proud of our efforts. We are happy to see that we have contributed to making this an essential event in the minds of NASCAR, one of the “crown jewel” of the series. Several times over the years, the sanctioning body has expressed its satisfaction about coming to our city for its only major series race held outside of the United States.

We cannot forget the fact that we owe our stock car fans the fine reputation that our event has acquired over the past five years. In the minds of series officials, team owners and members and the drivers, as well as the media attending our NASCAR event, Montréal is a major stop on the tour. We want to thank everyone for their support, and we want to assure them that we will be hard at work to make this event more interesting and more spectacular. We also want to mention that the support of our business partners, UAP-NAPA and Dodge, in this venture is of the utmost importance. It enables us to foresee with confidence a bright future,” concluded the President of Octane Management.

“UAP and it NAPA brand are proud to have been the major sponsor of the NAPA Auto Parts 200, presented by Dodge for the first five years of competition. Beside offering a unique window for our brand and our products, the event has attracted the best drivers in the series and thousands of motorsports fans to Montréal,” said Robert Hattem, President, and Chief Operating Officer, UAP Inc. “We look forward to a new agreement with Octane Management, with whom we have been partners these past years. We are also proud to say that all together, we have been able to make the NAPA Auto Parts 200, presented by Dodge one of the most popular sporting events in Eastern Canada, and of course one of the best attended event here in Montréal.”

In order to stage the NAPA Auto Parts 200, presented by Dodge on August 17 and 18, 2012, the new promoter of the event has also entered into an agreement with La Société du parc Jean-Drapeau for the rental of Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.

“As President of the Board of Administration of La Société du parc Jean-Drapeau, I have spent a lot of time and energy to ensure the presentation of a NASCAR race in Montréal for 2012. I am very happy that today’s announcement guarantees the coming of a second international motorsports event on Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve,” commented Mr. Normand Legault.

Octane Management Inc, a Canadian company established in Montréal, is the new promoter of the NAPA Auto Parts 200, presented by Dodge. Octane Racing Group Inc is the promoter of the FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DU CANADA by virtue of an agreement made with Formula One Administration Limited and Formula 1 World Championship Limited (together the holder of commercialization rights to F1), and Octane Motorsports Events Inc is the promoter of the Edmonton Indy. We are the only company in the world to promote events from FOM, NASCAR and IndyCar.

Dufault, the Sorel, Quebec Canada native last competed at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway in the Pennsylvania ARCA 125 where she bolted from her 27th place starting position to finish a commendable 13th earning her the Hard Charger Award. Dufault returns to the cockpit for the final two races at Kansas Speedway and Toledo Speedway respectively where she intends to provide her team with another finish inside the top-10.

And if there is a track that offers the most probable circumstance for that goal to become a reality, Kansas Speedway might just be the place. Carrying a similar outline to Chicagoland Speedway, the site of Dufault’s 10th place finish in June, the Tony Marks Racing (TMR) skips to the “Land of Oz” hoping to deliver their second straight top-10 finish on Friday night.

Maryeve Dufault

“I’m ready for Kansas,” said Dufault, who has since made her NASCAR Nationwide Series debut at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. “We had a good thing going at Pocono and despite the break in-between, I am really excited about climbing back behind the wheel of our No. 12 Race Engines Plus / Dodge Motorsports / Tony Marks Racing Dodge Charger and fight towards another top-10 finish.”

“We’re bringing fast racecars to the track,” Dufault said. “As a team, we skipped the dirt races all together and Jared did a great job at Madison and Salem. Both of us tested this past weekend at Toledo Speedway to prepare for the season finale and I feel like we’re both are going to have really strong racecars. We’re all looking forward to the remaining two races and beyond.”

As far as Kansas Speedway is concerned, it will be business as usual when she puts on her helmet and takes to the mile-and-a-half-track for the first time in her ARCA career.

Dufault, in her off time has also packed her belongings and made the long trek from California to North Carolina where she now calls “home” in an effort to be closer to her team and marketing partners.

“I’m enjoying living in North Carolina,” Dufault sounded. “It’s a lot different than California, but I like the change. I’m able to spend a lot of time at the shop and hang with my team and racing friends even more now that I’m here near them. It’s been another step in the right direction.”

“Ryan (Chism, crew chief) and the entire team have been working hard on the car for the past couple of weeks. It looks sweet. It’s a one-day show at a big track and a quick turn-around between qualifying and the race, so keeping ourselves on our agenda will be critical to having a good night. For me, I have to use patience, not get anxious and stay focused. Hopefully when it’s all said and done, we can find ourselves in the same scenario as we did at Chicagoland.”

Tony Marks, a former racer and Ohio entrepreneur offered his thoughts on Friday night’s stakes. “Everyone at TMR is looking forward to having Maryeve back in her seat again this week,” Marks offered. “We have our cars ready to go and the team is still riding high from our finish at Salem Speedway. There isn’t a question in my mind that with a little bit of luck and some patience too, Maryeve can keep the team headed in the right direction on Friday night.”

In addition to Race Engines Plus and Dodge Motorsports, Dufault will carry the signage of Cool Off Icy Towelettes, Terry Henricks Chrysler / Dodge / Jeep / Ram and the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) as associate marketing partners for the team’s inaugural debut at Kansas Speedway.

TMR development driver Jared Marks after finishing a career-best fifth at Salem (Ind.) Speedway last month will be on-hand at Kansas Speedway but due to ARCA’s age restrictions will be unable to participate in Friday night’s shootout. Instead, Marks will return to form in a second TMR entry at Toledo Speedway on Sunday, October 16.

The Kansas Lottery 98.9 (99 laps / 148.5 miles) is the 18th of 19 events on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 11th ARCA event held at Kansas Speedway is a one-day show. Practice begins Friday, October 7 with a two hour and 15 minute practice session planned from 9:00 a.m. -11:15 a.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is slated to begin later in the day at 5:35 p.m. The field will take the green flag approximately two hours later at 7:30 p.m. The event will be televised live on SPEED with additional race coverage including live timing and scoring throughout the 1,330th race for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards since it was formed in 1953 will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com presented by ARCANation.com.
Date: Sept. 3, 2011

Event: Great Clips 300 (Round 26 of 34)

Series: NASCAR Nationwide Series

Location: Atlanta Motor Speedway (1.54-mile oval)

Start / Finish: 3rd / 2nd (Running, completed 195 of 195 laps)

Winner: Carl Edwards of Roush Fenway Racing (Ford)

No. 18 Z-Line Toyota Camry (Kyle Busch) - Photo Credit: Chris Graythen / Getty Images for NASCAR

Kyle Busch moved from fourth to second in the final 20 laps, but couldn’t catch eventual winner Carl Edwards in Saturday night’s Great Clips 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Busch, driver of the No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), finished .697 of a second behind Edwards en route to his 15th top-five finish in 18 Nationwide Series races in 2011.

“I guess it was a good race,” Busch said. “The track didn’t widen out like we always, normally expect it to do here. There didn’t seem to be a very good middle or top side. Everybody was kind of fighting for the bottom and trying to run that yellow line around the racetrack. Hard to pass guys in that case when you try to get up behind them and you’re slipping and sliding already and such on edge that when you get three or four car lengths behind them and lose more downforce, then you’re sliding even worse.”

After starting third, Busch worked his way through the field and took the lead for the first time on lap 44. He led six times for 31 laps and was in the top-five for nearly the entire event.

With 20 laps remaining, Busch was in fourth when the green flag was displayed for the final time in the 195-lap event. He quickly passed Kasey Kahne for third and by lap 181 found himself in a fierce battle with Ricky Stenhouse Jr., for second. Once he cleared Stenhouse on lap 185, Busch set his sights on Edwards, but didn’t have enough at the end to run the Roush Fenway Racing driver down.

Kyle Busch - Photo Credit: John Harrelson / Getty Images for NASCAR

“Certainly was an exciting race there for a little while on restarts,” Busch said. “You would run back and forth and dive bomb guys and get on their outside, their inside and once it kind of single files out then it’s tough to go. You can see the cars that are free to start with kind of go to the front and then the guys that have better long-run cars kind of come up through. I felt like we were one of the long-run cars that certainly got better with laps. Just didn’t have enough on the front side. If we had enough on the front side and enough on the back side then we would have been the best car here. The Z-Line Designs Camry just wasn’t quite what it needed to be, but was close and we gave them a run for their money.”

There are 23 tracks in North America that will host a Nationwide race during the 2011 season and Busch has won at all but four of them. He has never competed at one of those four tracks – Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. – and he only ran the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve road course in Montreal once, when he finished 10th in 2009. That leaves Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the road course at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International and Atlanta as circuits he has competed at more than once, yet not scored a Nationwide victory.

He has four runner-up finishes in Nationwide Series races at Atlanta, including three consecutive second-place results.

“One of these days we’ll get one here,” Busch said. “I want to win wherever we go and we’ve come close at Atlanta. We’ll get one at some point.”

Busch’s JGR teammates – rookie Ryan Truex, driver of the No. 20 Toyota Camry and Brian Scott, driver of the No. 11 Toyota Camry – finished 11th and 12th, respectively.

Edwards’ victory in the Great Clips 300 was his 35th career Nationwide Series victory, his sixth of the season and his second at Atlanta.

Stenhouse finished third while Kevin Harvick and Kahne rounded out the top-five. Justin Allgaier, Brad Keselowski, Aric Almirola, Jason Leffler and Elliott Sadler comprised the remainder of the top-10.

There were six caution periods for 27 laps with 12 drivers failing to finish the 300-mile race.

The next event on the Nationwide Series schedule is the Sept. 9 Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway. The race starts at 7:30 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by ESPN2 beginning with its pre-race show at 7 p.m.

(Aug. 31, 2011) – What did you do on your summer vacation?

Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), achieved two major milestones as he won his 100th race in NASCAR’s top three divisions (Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck) and his 50th Nationwide Series race to become the all-time wins leader in that series.

His 100th victory in NASCAR came in July at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, where Busch drove the No. 18 Z-Line Designs Camry to victory in the New England 200. Since then, Busch added win number 101 in the Sprint Cup race two weeks ago at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn and victory 102 in last week’s Nationwide Series race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

His Nationwide win at Bristol also was his 50th victory in the series, breaking Mark Martin’s record of 49 all-time victories.

With those two milestones complete, not too far removed from Busch’s 2009 Nationwide title, one might wonder what is left for the Las Vegas native to accomplish in the series.

Believe it or not, Busch has never won a Nationwide race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, site of Saturday night’s Great Clips 300.

He’s had success at Atlanta in other series, however, having won a Sprint Cup race at the 1.54-mile oval in March 2008, as well as four Camping World Truck Series events in October 2005 and 2007, and March 2008 and 2009.

Kyle Busch - Photo Credit: John Harrelson / Getty Images for NASCAR

Kyle Busch, Driver of the No. 18 Z-Line Designs NASCAR Nationwide Series Toyota Camry:

What are your memories of racing in Atlanta?

“I’ve won a few Truck races there, which has been fun. I have not won a Nationwide race there. I finished second three or four times, so it’s been an Achilles’ heel for me, I guess. The Cup races there, I’ve either been really good or mediocre or really bad. There have been times where I’ve been really good throughout the event. Last year, I think Denny (Hamlin) and I were first and second for a long time and then I kind of faded off and he ran really well until he blew up. And we finished fifth, I think. I’ve finished 12th there like seven times, I guess. I don’t know what it is, but I just can’t seem to keep the grip in my car for the long haul, as long you need throughout a run. I’m really fast for the first five, eight laps. But then, after that, I seem to slip more than anyone else.”

What does it take to be successful at Atlanta?

“It takes a lot of things. You have to have a lot of grip, you have to have a lot of downforce, you have to have tire management, a great engine, and fuel mileage, too. There are a lot of circumstances it can come down to at the end and what it will boil down to.”

Where does breaking Mark Martin’s record rank in your accomplishments?

“There are an awful lot of accomplishments and it’s hard to pinpoint exactly where they fall. Certainly last week (at Bristol) was a pretty big one. Just being able to race that hard and race against a teammate (Joey Logano) like that, knowing that he had just as good of stuff as I did. To barely beat him there at the end – if there were two more laps, he probably would have gotten me. It was only 250 (laps), so that was all we needed. Certainly, it was great to have Mark (Martin) with us in victory lane in Loudon (N.H.) and take some photos with him for tying him. Being able to beat him and get atop the all-time win list in the Nationwide Series was special for us as a team and for me as a driver.”

Jason Ratcliff, Crew Chief of the No. 18 Z-Line Designs NASCAR Nationwide Series Toyota Camry:

Atlanta is one of the few racetracks that Kyle has not won at in the Nationwide Series. Talk about checking that track off the list and the challenges of racing at Atlanta.

“Atlanta would be a big one for us. Kyle usually runs really well there, but we just haven’t been able to close the deal, yet. We’ve led a lot of laps and run second but just haven’t been able to get the win. I think we’ll be good at Atlanta. It’s one of his better racetracks. It’s very similar to Charlotte and Texas, where he’s won a lot of races. He’s won a Cup race at Atlanta and a few Truck races, so I know he’ll be prepared for it and I know he’ll do well if we can provide a good car for him. It’d be neat to finally get one at Atlanta – that’s a neat place. It’s superfast, especially when we’re running at night. I enjoy it, it’s close to home and, hopefully, we can do just a little bit better than we have.”

You’ve had a couple of days to reflect on helping Kyle get his 50th win in the Nationwide Series. How special was that for you?

“It was a pretty big deal. We’ve been extremely blessed with the victories we’ve had, not only this year but the last several years. First, it was number 49 and you were just thinking, ‘Man let’s just get that and get it under our belt.’ The pressure does kind of grow. When you get to something that big, the pressure does begin to grow each week. So to get to Mark Martin’s record at Loudon was a big deal and, from that point on, you just wonder where number 50 is going to happen. And, there is really not a better racetrack than Bristol. It’s so unique and you have to persevere and it’s just a tough racetrack. And then for it to be so close at the end with our teammate (Joey Logano), it was exciting. Our hearts were pounding there at the end. You’ll always remember number 50, but I think you’ll remember it even more because of the way it ended. It was fun to share that not only with the guys on the 18 car with Kyle, but also the 20 guys. They had a piece of it, as well, and it was cool all around. It was neat and we’ll remember it forever, but I’d like to go win number 51 now.”

No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger News and Notes

This Week’s Challenger… Parker Kligerman and the Penske Racing Discount Tire Dodge Challenger team will use chassis PRS-207 during Friday’s Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS). Brad Keselowski drove this chassis to a 12th-place finish at Nashville Superspeedway last month.

The No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger in 2011… After 23 events, the reigning NNS champion No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger team is ranked seventh in the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) owner point standings. The team is coming off a 27th-place finish in the Napa Auto Parts 200 presented by Dodge last weekend at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as Jacques Villeneuve filled in for Keselowski behind the wheel.

Depth Charge… There are few organizations within NASCAR that could withstand an injury to a championship-caliber driver the way Penske Racing has since Keselowski was injured in a testing accident at Road Atlanta earlier this month. Over the last four races, including one with Keselowski as the driver, of the No. 22 car, the team has compiled two wins and two pole awards, with Kurt Busch, Sam Hornish, Jr. and Jacques Villeneuve all lending championship credentials to the seat.

Kligerman 2010 Bristol Rewind… After starting from the 43rd position in last year’s Food City 250 at BMS, Kligerman raced his way to a ninth-place result, his first top-10 finish in NNS competition.

Rate Our Commercials… Fans can visit www.discounttiremotorsports.com to vote for their favorite commercial featuring Keselowski, driver of the Discount Tire Dodge Challenger. By doing so, fans can earn a chance to win $500.

Follow Parker on Twitter… Fans can follow Kligerman on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/pkligerman. Followers can get a glimpse inside his everyday life while keeping up-to-date on the latest news for the Penske Racing driver.

Parker Kligerman on filling in for Brad Keselowski this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway

“Make no mistake, this is Brad Keselowski’s seat, but it is a big opportunity for me. It’s not often that drivers get the opportunity to jump into a championship-winning car. Therefore, I look forward to representing Discount Tire as best I can this weekend. Our last race together was Daytona last July and we hope to replicate the success that we had together there (Kligerman qualified second and finished 13th). Bristol is where I got my first top-10 in the Nationwide Series and I think with (crew chief) Todd Gordon and the guys building fast racecars, we can produce similar results. I appreciate Mr. Penske, Brad and everyone at Penske Racing for having the confidence in me to drive the Discount Tire Challenger at one of my favorite tracks.”

Crew chief Todd Gordon on working with Parker Kligerman this weekend

“Racing 750 miles at Bristol (the combined total of the Cup and Nationwide Series races this weekend) is hard on someone that isn’t injured the way Brad is and we all want him to get back to 100% as quickly as possible. We’re all pulling together to make sure we don’t miss a beat in his absence. Parker has already done a great job in helping set up the Discount Tire Dodges at several times this year when Brad couldn’t make it to practice, including Indianapolis where Brad was able to drive the car to victory. If you look at the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series program at Brad Keselowski Racing, Parker has made a lot of strides as a driver over there. He had a great race at Bristol last year and I’m excited to work with him. We’ve had a lot of outstanding drivers – championship-caliber drivers – fill the seat over the last three races. I’ve enjoyed working with all of them and I think Parker will continue the roll we’ve been on.”

Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway

No. 11 Shore Lodge Team Notes of Interest

· Brian Scott and the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota team prepare this week for the NASCAR Nationwide Series return to Bristol Motor Speedway. This weekend’s Food City 250 at the half-mile track will be Scott’s fifth career start at Bristol in Nationwide Series competition.

· Improving the Finish: Scott earned his best ever Bristol finish during his most recent visit to “Thunder Valley.” Scott finished 12th during the March race at Bristol. In fact, Scott has progressively improved his Bristol finish position each time he visits the track in Nationwide Series competition.

· In addition to the four starts in the Nationwide Series competition, Scott has two Bristol starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Scott finished 19th in his first ever Bristol start in 2008 and followed that up one year later with a fifth-place run during the 2009 Truck Series race.

· Chassis #119 is the car Scott will race this weekend in Bristol. The car is a brand new chassis for Joe Gibbs Racing. This will be the third race the team has used chassis #119 during the 2011 season. The car made its debut at Auto Club (California) Speedway in March where Scott earned an 11th-place finish. Chassis #119 appeared more recently at Dover International Speedway in May. Scott was caught up in an accident on lap 46 of the race and had to spend extended time in the garage for repairs. He eventually finished the race in 30th position. The backup car for this weekend is Chassis #106 which still has not been used in 2011.

· Last Race: Scott had the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota positioned solidly in fifth place as the laps wound down last weekend at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He was in fifth place in the last turn of the last lap when he was punted by driver Justin Allgaier and ended up finishing the race in 12th place.

· Scott remains ninth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver standings following his 12th-place finish in Montreal. He is 18 points behind Steven Wallace in eighth place.

· To access information on Brian Scott and No. 11 Team visit: www.joegibbsracing.com and follow twitter.com/bscottracing and twitter.com/joegibbsracing.

Brian Scott

Can you talk a little about the end of last weekend’s race at Montreal?

“Yeah, it’s kind of crazy. Seeing the white flag for the last lap is almost as bad as seeing the black flag. I’m just sitting there thinking I’m clear. It’s the last lap and I see Steven (Wallace) ahead of me by about 5 or 10 car lengths and look in my rearview mirror and I have about the same distance on Fitzpatrick behind me. I still don’t know what happened but I guess Justin Allgaier just drove into the turn trying to be a hero and took me out. I was surprised. I didn’t know where it came from. It was random and totally unexpected.”

How do you feel heading to Bristol this weekend?

“Well as everyone knows, Bristol is one of the most physically demanding race tracks we visit. It’s a race that really gets you going. People always talk about the top speeds we do at places like Daytona and Talladega where we hit 200 mph. But 200 mph at those places feels nothing like the 150 mph or so that we hit at Bristol. This race should be even more interesting because it’s under the lights and that just seems to amplify the intensity level of that race. Should be a fun night.”

BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY

5-Hour Energy Team News and Notes

· This Week’s 5 Hour Energy Toyota … Steve Wallace will pilot Rusty Wallace Racing chassis RWR-058 in Friday night’s Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. A workhorse of the 2011 season, this Toyota Camry raced at Auto Club Speedway in March, Nashville Superspeedway in April, and twice in the month of May, at Darlington Raceway and Charlotte Motor Speedway. Most recently, Wallace raced this chassis to a 14th-place finish at Michigan International Speedway in June.

· Through 24 Races … With 24 races of the 2011 season in the record books, Wallace has accumulated two top-five, five top 10 and 12 top-15 finishes, an average starting position of 13.4 and an average finish of 15.9. Wallace has completed 97.7 percent of the laps contested (4,202 of 4,302) thus far.

· Get to the Points … Wallace is currently ranked eighth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver point standings, 38 in arrears to seventh-place driver Kenny Wallace. Over the last two weeks, the 24-year-old driver has shaved 28 points off his deficit to his uncle.

· A Place of Firsts … Wallace scored his first pole award at Bristol in 2007. It came in his 24th career start. Wallace led 32 laps before being involved in an incident.

· Wallace at Bristol … In 10 previous Nationwide Series starts at Bristol Motor Speedway, Wallace has recorded two top-10 finishes and has led 35 laps.

· Welcome Aboard … 5-Hour Energy Racing welcomes Food City as a partner for this weekend’s race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Food City branding will adorn the TV panel of Wallace’s No. 66 Toyota in Friday evening’s race.

· Last Time Out … Wallace was able to overcome a pit road penalty and a mid-race spin to record a fourth-place finish in last Saturday afternoon’s NAPA Auto Parts 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. In a field stacked with road course ringers, the finish was the best amongst full-time NASCAR Nationwide Series competitors.

· Speaking of Montreal … Wallace heads to Bristol on the strength of his career-best finish. Wallace gave his father’s team their 57th NASCAR Nationwide Series top-five finish.

· Rusty Wallace Racing at Bristol … In 29 starts at the .533-mile Tennessee bullring, Rusty Wallace Racing boasts two top-five and 12 top-10 finishes with five different drivers including Jeremy Mayfield, Jamie McMurray, David Stremme, Kenny Wallace and Steve Wallace. Additionally, Rusty Wallace Racing entries have completed 6,946 of 7,414 laps, and have led 55 laps.

· Rusty Wallace Racing in 2011 … With 24 of 34 races completed thus far in the 2011 season, Rusty Wallace Racing’s three NASCAR Nationwide Series entries have recorded a combined three top-five, 11 top 10 and 25 top-15 finishes.
· Steve’s Newest Fan … Team engineer Josh Sell and his wife, Christina, welcomed their first child, Keegan Elizabeth to the world on August 18. Both mother and daughter are doing well.

· Meet the Driver … On behalf of 5-Hour Energy, Wallace will sign autographs at Food City’s Bristol Family Race Night, located on State Street in Bristol, Tenn., on Thursday, August 25 from 5-7 p.m. For more information, log on to www.FoodCity.com.

“Bristol is my favorite track, by far. We’ve had some good runs in the past, but we’re looking for more. We’ve got some momentum with the finish at Montreal last week, so we’ve got high expectations for this weekend.” – Steve Wallace on racing at Bristol Motor Speedway

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

And It’s Just That Close… – The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) championship points battle continues to be as close as ever, with drivers switching positions almost on a weekly basis. After a 25th-place finish at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve last weekend, Sorenson gained a point on leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. but lost a spot to Elliott Sadler. Sorenson is currently ranked third in the standings, nine points out of first and just one point from second-place.

Sorenson at Bristol Motor Speedway - In 10 career NNS starts at the famed ‘bulling’ of Bristol, Sorenson has one top-five and three top-10 finishes, with an average starting position of 14.8 and an average finish of 21.6. His career-best finish of third came in his track debut back in 2005.

In the Loop - Sorenson continues to lead the way in two of NASCAR’s loop statistic categories: Green Flag Passes (1394) and Quality Passes (905). A Green Flag Pass is categorized as a pass made under green-flag conditions and a Quality Pass is one made under green-flag conditions while running in the top-15.

Turner Motorsports: In the hunt… In 24 Nationwide Series events in 2011, Turner Motorsports-prepared entries have notched three wins, 19 top-five and 47 top-10 finishes. All three of Turner Motorsports’ championship-contending drivers are inside the top-six in the driver point standings with Sorenson in third, Justin Allgaier in fourth and Jason Leffler in sixth.

This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Sorenson will pilot TMS-115 in the Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. This has been a favorite car for the Dollar General team, having been run earlier in the year at Phoenix International Raceway (fifth), Richmond International Raceway (12th), Iowa Speedway (fourth, May) and most recently at Lucas Oil Raceway (ninth).

Reed Sorenson - Photo Credit: CIA (Cameras In Action)

Sorenson on returning to Bristol Motor Speedway:

“I would probably consider Bristol to be one of my favorite tracks so I’m pretty excited to get back there for the night race. I feel like we have some unfinished business to attend to there after the spring race. We had an engine issue and it is so far our only huge setback of the season. Fortunately it came early enough that we could bounce back. It is really getting down to the wire with this points battle so we are looking for wins and top-five finishes every week. I think we have a good chance for success this weekend though. Like I said, it’s a track I like a lot and we are bringing back a really good Dollar General Chevy. We’ve had some great races with it and I’m looking for more of the same at Bristol this weekend.”

No. 31 BRANDT News and Notes

First Career Win at Bristol… Allgaier claimed his first career NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) victory on the high banks of Thunder Valley in the spring of 2010. Allgaier started 30th and led 27 laps to claim the win. Since coming to Turner Motorsports in 2011, he has earned his second career victory (Chicagoland Speedway) and captured six top-five and 12 top-10 finishes.

Allgaier Heads to Thunder Valley Fourth in Points… Allgaier moved into fourth-place in the NNS championship point standings after his eighth-place finish at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He is 62 points behind leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. All three championship-contending Turner Motorsports drivers are currently in the top-10, with Reed Sorenson in third and Jason Leffler in sixth-place.

Bristol Motor Speedway by the Numbers… The 25-year-old Turner Motorsports Chevy driver has five NNS starts at Bristol Motor Speedway. He is credited with one victory, two top-five and two top-10 finishes, with a best start of third coming earlier this spring.

This Week’s Impala… The No. 31 BRANDT Chevy team will hit the track with chassis TMS-129 nicknamed “Fireball” this Friday evening at BMS.
Event Preview Fact Sheet

Event / Date: O’Reilly Auto Parts 200 – August 24, 2011

Venue: Bristol Motor Speedway – Bristol, Tenn.

· This Week’s Monster Energy Chevrolet Silverado … Ricky Carmichael will pilot chassis TMS-005 from the Turner Motorsports (TMS) NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) stable in Wednesday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway. This is the same Monster Energy Chevy Carmichael raced to a 21st-place finish at Kansas Speedway earlier this season after a qualifying incident forced his team to roll out its back-up truck for the race. Built new in 2010, this is the same truck Carmichael’s TMS-teammate James Buescher raced three times last season including the first race at Nashville (St. 20, Fn. 13) Gateway (St. 2, Fn. 12) and Bristol (St.2, Fn. 33).

· Bristol Bits … Carmichael started 22nd and finished 19th in his lone NCWTS start at BMS and completed 203 of the 206 laps contested.

· Michigan Minutes … Carmichael and the Monster Energy Team turned in a solid 12th-place finish in last Saturday’s VFW 200 at Michigan International Speedway. The Tallahassee, Fla., resident qualified seventh, raced inside the top 10 for most of the afternoon and just missed out on a top-10 finish when the checkers waved.

· In a Nutshell … The 2011 season marks Carmichael’s second year competing on a full-time basis and third year overall in the NCWTS. Since making his series debut 58 races ago, the father of twins has gone on to earn three top-five and 14 top-10 finishes. Over those same 58 races, the motocross legend has logged a 15.2 average start, a 17.0 average finish, led 39 laps and completed 91.2 percent of the laps run and earned just over of $746,000 in purse money.

· Turner Truck Totals … In 15 NCWTS races in 2011, TMS entries have earned seven top-five and 19 top-10 finishes. Buescher leads the way with seven top fives, including a fourth-place finish last weekend in Michigan where he moved up from third to second in points following his 13th-consecutive top-10. With the exception of Martinsville, Buescher has finished inside the top 10 in every race in which he has competed in the division this season. Carmichael has logged three top 10s, including a season-best sixth-place showing at Texas Motor Speedway and is 17th in the standings. Mark Martin finished seventh in the No. 32 machine two races ago at Pocono while Brad Sweet drove the same truck for the first eight races of the year and logged a pair of top 10s.

· Blake’s Back In … For the second time this season, Blake Feese will climb aboard the No. 32 AccuDoc Solutions machine for Wednesday night’s race in Bristol. With the exception of next month’s event at Chicagoland Speedway, where Steve Arpin will handle the driving chores, Feese will fill out the remainder of the 2011 schedule in the No. 32 Chevrolet Silverado.

· Get to the Point(s) … Carmichael maintained 17th in the NCWTS driver point standings following his 12th-place finish last weekend. He’s now just five points outside the top 15 and just 35 behind 12th-place Brendan Gaughan. Buescher jumped to second in the standings after his top-four showing in Michigan and now sits a mere five points behind leader Johnny Sauter. While Feese has made just one start in 2011, the No. 32 machine is assured a spot on the starting grid by virtue of being 17th in the NCWTS owner point standings.

· Welcome Aboard … Turner Motorsports and Monster Energy are pleased to feature Roadrunner Markets on the lower-rear quarter panels of the No. 4 Monster Energy Silverado Wednesday night at Bristol. Roadrunner Markets strive to delight the customer today that makes them come back tomorrow. Roadrunner Markets realizes the value of its customers and attempts to do whatever it can to make their stop fast, and enjoyable. Roadrunner Markets operates 92 convenience stores in Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina and provides incredibly clean restrooms and organized stores with a friendly staff. Roadrunner Markets customers and the NASCAR customer, in a lot of ways, are the same person.

· Nationwide Notes … In 24 NASCAR Nationwide Series races in 2011, TMS-fielded teams have notched three wins, 19 top-five and 47 top-10 finishes. Reed Sorenson, driver of the No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet, fell from second to third in points after finishing 25th last weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. Justin Allgaier, driver of the No. 31 Brandt Chevrolet, was eighth in the final rundown last weekend and moved up from fifth to fourth in the standings. Jason Leffler finished ninth in Montreal and held on to sixth in points. The drivers and teams of the NASCAR Nationwide Series also head for Thunder Valley this weekend for 250 laps of Friday night short-track action. The Food City 250 will take the green flag Friday, Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The race will be televised live on ESPN beginning at 7 p.m. EDT and broadcast on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

· See the Monster Energy Silverado … The Monster Energy Chevrolet Silverado show truck will make a pair of stops in the Bristol market this week. On Wednesday, from 9 a.m. – noon, the No. 4 machine will visit Roadrunner Markets Store No. 131 – 3900 Bristol Highway in Johnson City. Later that afternoon, the Monster Energy machine will make a pit stop at Roadrunner Markets Store No. 121 located at 1309 Highway 394 in Blountville for a 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. visit.

· Up to Speed … Live coverage of the O’Reilly Auto Parts 200 from Bristol Motor Speedway will take the green flag Wednesday, Aug. 24 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The race will be televised live on SPEED and broadcast on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90. Qualifying for the 16th of 25 races on the 2011 schedule will be televised live on SPEED the same day at 5 p.m. EDT.

RICKY CARMICHAEL QUOTES

Are you excited to go race Bristol Motor Speedway this week?

“Last year was my first time at Bristol and I picked it up pretty quickly. I actually surprised myself. But, honestly, you don’t have a choice but to pick it up right away. You’ve got to get out there and get after it real quick. That was the attitude I had going in and that’s what we did. It took me until about halfway through the race before I really got it figured out but after that I started picking guys off and reeling them in. It took me about that long to figure out how to race the track but once I did I think I made my way up to 11th or somewhere around there. Unfortunately, we got caught up in a wreck with about four laps to go and that really set us back.

“I like going to Bristol and I’m really looking forward to building off our momentum from last weekend at Michigan. We didn’t exactly get the finish we wanted but we were fast all weekend and I found the comfort level that I like. We tested a couple weeks ago at Gresham Motorsports Park and learned some things that should help us a lot over these last 10 races. It’s a short week for us but that just keeps my confidence up from last weekend. I have a lot of confidence and the team does too.”

Does Bristol remind you of anywhere you raced during your motocross days?

“Bristol is very similar to a Supercross race. You’re in a stadium surrounded by a ton of fans and the energy level is through the roof. People are screaming and yelling in a small, confined space. For a driver or a rider, these types of venues are hard to beat.”
