After a two year absence, Wilson returns to Dale Coyne Racing after bringing the seasoned team its first win at Watkins Glen, NY back July of 2009.

“I am really excited as to how all of this has come together,” Wilson said. “Dale is committed to win, and it shows by him bringing back my 2009 engineer Bill Papas, the level playing field of a new car and the much appreciated continuation with Honda engines should make 2012 a very exciting year for all of us.”

Dale Coyne Racing will once again be powered by Honda in 2012. “Dale has shown us he is putting together a winning team,” commented Honda Performance Development President Erik Berkman. “The Honda family has a long history with DCR and we look forward to having them as a valued partner in 2012.”

Honda has been a fixture in North American open-wheel racing since 1994, and has played an active role in the growth of the IZOD IndyCar Series. Honda has supplied racing engines to the full, 33-car Indianapolis 500 field every year since 2006, and for a record-six consecutive years, the ‘500’ has not seen a single engine failure.

Wilson has shown his prowess over the years. Justin won two IZOD IndyCar races (Detroit in 2008 and again at Watkins Glen in 2009), as well as multiple wins in the former Champ Car Series. He is one of the top contenders to deal with in the pool of IndyCar driver talent.

“We are very excited about 2012 and the team we are assembling,” reflected team owner Dale Coyne. “As to this opportunity, racing is a combination of things, team, dedication, the right equipment, and engineering and of course the driver. This combination knows each other and this coupled with Honda and other improvements in our efforts for 2012 and beyond should make for a break out year for Dale Coyne Racing.”

Returning to DCR squad in 2012 will be the talented engineer Bill Papas. Papas joined DCR in 2009 for that season, which saw the team win Watkins Glen and nearly win at St. Petersburg and Mid-Ohio.

“I want to thank Dale for being able to put this combination back together,” said Pappas. “I think the world of Justin and his abilities and now we can seriously get after the challenge of winning more races.”

John Dick, who has a long respected history in the sport and most recently as engineer and technical director at KV Racing will also join Dale Coyne Racing in 2012.

Details of the team’s second entry and sponsorships will be coming out sometime in February.

(January 25, 2012) – American Honda and its Honda Performance Development (HPD) subsidiary will power a two-car effort from Dale Coyne Racing in the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series, HPD and the team announced today.

Under terms of the agreement, HPD will provide its new, turbocharged 2.2-liter Honda Indy V-6 engines to all Coyne entries in the IZOD IndyCar Series and at the Indianapolis 500.

“Dale Coyne Racing has been one of IndyCar’s most durable teams, with a history that extends for nearly 30 years.” said Erik Berkman, president of Honda Performance Development and vice president, corporate planning and logistics, for American Honda. “It’s great to have them racing with us in 2012. Dale’s team has made great strides in recent seasons, and he has made moves this off-season to further improve. We’re looking forward to continuing our association with him in 2012.”

Designed at HPD’s Santa Clarita, California, facility, the all-new Honda Indy V-6 engine is now being tested on the race track. Dale Coyne Racing joins Chip Ganassi Racing – winner of the last four IndyCar drivers’ championships – A.J. Foyt Racing, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Sam Schmidt Motorsports as Honda-powered teams in 2012.

“We have felt a part of the Honda family from their first days in CART back in the early 1990s till today,” commented DCR team owner Dale Coyne. “We are very pleased to enter this next stage of IndyCar history with a company so dedicated to winning and rich in successful motorsports heritage like Honda. Together we hope to accomplish great things in 2012.”

Honda has been a fixture in North American open-wheel racing since 1994, and has played an active role in the growth of the IZOD IndyCar Series – as both a Manufacturers’ Championship competitor and single engine supplier – since joining the series in 2003.

The company scored its first Indianapolis 500 victory in 2004 with Buddy Rice; Manufacturers’ Championships in 2004 and ’05; and became engine supplier to the entire IZOD IndyCar Series in 2006.

Honda has supplied racing engines to the full, 33-car Indianapolis 500 field every year since 2006, and for a record-six consecutive years, the ‘500’ has not seen a single engine failure.

The 2010 Indianapolis 500, won by Dario Franchitti, marked Honda’s 100th race win as a manufacturer and engine supplier in IZOD IndyCar Series competition.

Founded in 1993, Honda Performance Development (HPD) is the Honda racing company within North America. HPD is the technical operations center for high-performance Honda racing cars and engines and operates at race circuits around the world from its headquarters in Santa Clarita, California.

In addition to its efforts in Indy car racing, HPD spearheaded championship-winning efforts in the 2009-2010 American Le Mans Series, 2010 Le Mans Series and the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans.

HPD offers a line of race engines for track applications from prototype sports cars to karting; for professional, amateur and entry-level efforts.

Starting in 1984 as a driver/owner, Dale Coyne raced for five seasons in Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) competition, before stepping out of the cockpit in 1990 and becoming a full-time owner for his Plainfield, Illinois-based team. Through the years, his team has given many up-and-coming drivers their first opportunities in IndyCar competition, including Paul Tracy, future fellow IndyCar team owner Eric Bachelart and 2011 rookie James Jakes.

In 1998, Coyne developed Route 66 Speedway, a state-of-the-art drag racing facility in nearby Joliet, Illinois. Later, in partnership with then Indianapolis Motor Speedway CEO Tony George and the International Speedway Corporation, the facility was expanded to include the 1.5-mile Chicagoland Speedway oval. In 2009, Justin Wilson scored the team’s first IndyCar Series victory at Watkins Glen International Raceway in New York.

INDYCAR LOGO

Today’s IZOD IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights headlines:

1. Rookie Orientation Program is first step to qualifying for ’500′

2. Lloyd joins Coyne for Indy 500, other ovals

3. Wilson honored by Waterloo, Ind.

4. Sarah Fisher Racing, Carpenter add Milwaukee with sponsorship from Direct Supply

1. Rookie Orientation Program is first step to qualifying for ’500′: At least seven drivers with aspirations of competing in the 100th anniversary Indianapolis 500 begin their journey May 12 with the mandatory Rookie Orientation Program at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. (ET) session is open to spectators free of charge in the South Terrace Grandstands. Spectators should enter through Gate 2 on 16th Street. Opening Day is May 14, with all-car practice from noon-6 p.m. (ET).

Scheduled to participate are IZOD IndyCar Series regulars JR Hildebrand (National Guard Panther Racing), James Hinchcliffe (Newman/Haas Racing), James Jakes (Dale Coyne Racing) and Charlie Kimball (Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing), plus Ho-Pin Tung (Schmidt Dragon Racing), Pippa Mann (Conquest Racing) and Jay Howard (Service Central Schmidt-Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing).

“Instead of having it embedded in the practice days, it’s nice to move it out before the activities actually begin by a couple of days,” said Brian Barnhart, president of competition and racing operations for INDYCAR. “I think it provides a better atmosphere for the rookies to get familiar with the racetrack to run through their phases in a less time-restrained and a less pressurized situation.”

The evaluation program consists of turning 10 consistent laps at four speed phases on the 2.5-mile asphalt oval: 200-205 mph, 205-210, 210-215 and 215 or more. Barnhart expects drivers to complete at least three phases during the session.

“They’ll get about six hours on track, which is ample time to get through a minimum of three phases, and then they can complete the fourth phase then at any time during the week of practice prior to qualifications,” he said. “That’s easy enough to do because the fourth phase is anything at speed so they’re able to be at speed with other traffic out there and not be trying to run phases while other people are running different speeds.”

IZOD IndyCar Series teams picked up their equipment May 4 from the street race in Sao Paulo, Brazil, earlier this week. Four Indy 500 rookies competed in that event, with Hinchcliffe and Hildebrand posting top-10 finishes.

“By running the 12th it gives everybody another three days to prepare the cars, move in and do the ROP at their pace,” Barnhart added. “When we open on Saturday, it will be for all cars at all times.”

Five of the drivers have competed at the Speedway in the 40-lap Firestone Freedom 100 on Carb Day, with Mann the pole sitter for the 2010 Firestone Indy Lights race. Kimball was the race runner-up and Hinchcliffe finished third. In 2009, Hildebrand recorded a second-place finish on his way to the series title, and Howard finished fourth. Howard was the runner-up in ’06 during his championship season.

Davey Hamilton, who participated in ROP in 1996 with A.J. Foyt Copenhagen Racing, offered a few cautionary words for the professional race car drivers.

“I think the biggest thing is you have to respect that racetrack,” said Hamilton, who will attempt to qualify for his 11th Indy 500 in a Dreyer & Reinbold Racing car. “Some days you go out there and it’s so intimidating and other days you think it’s easy. But you have to remember the speeds you’re going and how technical the track really is.

“It’s good to be with a team that’s been there so they can give a lot of advice. Ask questions and don’t ever take it for granted because it can bite you. It does it to the veterans. For a rookie it’s one step at a time and don’t overdue it.”

2. Lloyd joins Coyne for Indy 500, other ovals: Alex Lloyd, who finished fourth in the Indianapolis 500 last May for Dale Coyne Racing, will return to the team to drive the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America car in the 100th anniversary race on May 29 and the other seven oval races on the IZOD IndyCar Series schedule.

Sebastien Bourdais will continue to drive the No. 19 car in the five remaining street and road course events. Lloyd will be a teammate to rookie James Jakes (No. 18 Acorn Stairlifts), who will not be only attempting his first Indy 500, but the first oval race of his IndyCar career.

“I’m pumped to be back with the Dale Coyne Racing team, and running not only at Indy, but at the remaining oval track events in 2011,” said Lloyd, the 2007 Firestone Indy Lights champion. “I think the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America team has a legitimate chance to win. I’m very excited to have this chance.”

Lloyd recorded four top-10 finishes in a full season in 2010 with Dale Coyne Racing, with the fourth place in the Indy 500 his highest (it also was the highest Indy 500 finish for Coyne in his 28 years as a team owner). Lloyd was the IZOD IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year.

“Alex is a great driver and I think will be extremely valuable in helping his teammate’s development on oval tracks,” Coyne said.

It will be Lloyd’s fourth Indianapolis 500 appearance. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway opens for practice May 14.

“It’s great to be back at Indy,” said Lloyd, 26, of England. “I would like nothing more than to give Dale Coyne Racing and the Boy Scouts of America another great finish here.”

3. Wilson honored by Waterloo, Ind.: As part of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s ‘Back Home Again in Indiana’ contest, Firestone Indy Lights driver Stefan Wilson spent a day in Waterloo, Ind., with students at Waterloo Elementary School.

He attended the celebration to help hand out pole day tickets to winning students and teachers, but to Wilson’s surprise, the town of Waterloo declared April 29, 2011 as ‘Stefan Wilson Day.’

Wilson received a plaque of an official town resolution, signed by Waterloo town council members.

“It was such an honor—and honestly quite a shock—to have a day named for me,” said Wilson, driver of the No. 5 car for Andretti Autosport. “I had a lot of fun teaching the kids about Indy car racing, and I think we made a few new fans. The plaque was just an added bonus. The whole town really welcomed me to their community.”

More than 250 students attended the convocation, and 21 students, as well as 15 winning teachers, received qualification day tickets to the Indianapolis 500. In keeping with the town’s contest theme, ‘the Indy 500 brings families together,’ local businesses in Waterloo will rent a charter bus to bring winners to the Speedway.

4. Sarah Fisher Racing, Carpenter add Milwaukee with sponsorship from Direct Supply : Sarah Fisher Racing has added the Milwaukee 225 to Ed Carpenter’s IZOD IndyCar Series schedule thanks to a partnership with Milwaukee-based Direct Supply.

Direct Supply, the nation’s leading supplier of equipment and ecommerce solutions to Long Term Healthcare and Senior Living communities, will serve as primary sponsor of the No. 67 carduring the June 19 race at the Milwaukee Mile.

“The Direct Supply Partners have been thrilled with our long association with Sarah and her team. As the first woman car owner she has shown tremendous spirit and accomplishment,” said Bob Hillis, CEO and founder of Direct Supply. “Now that she has added our good friend Ed Carpenter as driver of the Dollar General car, we were excited to get the opportunity to bring the team to Milwaukee as part of our family.”

Direct Supply joined Sarah Fisher Racing at the 2008 Indianapolis 500, continuing its longstanding involvement in Indy car racing..

“I am very excited about going back to Milwaukee, not only with Sarah Fisher Racing and Direct Supply, but just that the IZOD IndyCar Series is going back in general is awesome,” Carpenter said. “To be able to go up there sponsored by a local company and to work with Bob Hillis, who has been a family friend for a long time, is tremendous. I am just really excited to go up there and have a strong showing in front of the Milwaukee crowd!”

Said SFR owner Sarah Fisher: “I am thrilled to welcome Direct Supply as our primary partner for the Milwaukee race. Being one of the first supporters of SFR in 2008, when we were in a major growing stage at the Indianapolis 500, Direct Supply has continued with unwavering support of our team and certainly with our drive, Ed Carpenter. We have been in the wings, watching the Milwaukee race at the start of SFR, and with its return this season are excited to be a part of the historical event.”

***

The 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series season continues with the 100th Anniversary Indianapolis 500 on May 29 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race will be telecast live in High Definition at Noon (ET) by ABC. The race will air live on the IMS Radio Network, SiriusXM channel 94 and www.indycar.com. The 2011 Firestone Indy Lights season continues with the Firestone Freedom 100 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 27. The race will be televised live by VERSUS.

The IZOD IndyCar Series race will be televised live on VERSUS at 8 a.m. (ET). It will resume at the point of Sunday’s postponement on Lap 15 with approximately 1 hour, 19 minutes remaining in the two-hour race time limit.

“It’s disappointing to have to postpone any event, but especially one that we anticipated to be such a great event,” said Brian Barnhart, president of competition and racing operations for INDYCAR, sanctioning body of the IZOD IndyCar Series. “The city of Sao Paulo did an outstanding job on improving a circuit that produced 96 passes for position a year ago and had a lot of on-track action, but ultimately, it came down to a visibility issue and safety for our competitors is a priority.

“We thank the city and state of Sao Paulo and the event promoter and track workers for their efforts to dry the track. Hopefully, the great racing fans in Brazil who came today will come back tomorrow and fill the grandstands for the great event they came to see.”

Pole sitter Will Power led the first 10 laps on the 11-turn, 2.6-mile circuit before it was red-flagged for 2 hours, 23 minutes the due to treacherous conditions that limited visibility. After a brief attempt to resume the race, it was stopped for a second time at 4:25 p.m. local time.

This is the first IZOD IndyCar Series to be postponed by weather since the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in March 2010 at the Streets of St. Petersburg, Fla., won by Power.

DAY 2 NOTEBOOK:

The Itaipava São Paulo Indy 300 presented by Nestle champion’s trophy is a work of art.

It was created by plastic artist Paulo Solarize, a São Paulo resident who in the 1970s competed in motorcycle racing, and will be presented for the second consecutive year in Victory Circle. For this year’s race, Solarize also created trophies recognizing the winning team and the driver who sets the fastest race lap on the 2.536-mile, 11-turn street course.

“The idea was to do a champion’s trophy to represent some characteristic of Sao Paulo,” he said. “As the city doesn’t have any geographical point that serves as inspiration, as Rio de Janeiro has Sugar Loaf, I found a good one intended to show what Sao Paulo symbolizes for the people. Therefore, the piece will bring family elements to the culture from São Paulo and also Brazilian, with references to the pioneers and the workers that built the richest state of the country.”

Solarize has published book of images and paintings and sculptures of Ayrton Senna, entitled “Art for Senna.” The 17th anniversary of Senna’s death was remembered during pre-race ceremonies, and some drivers had personal tributes on their cars or – in the case of Vitor Meira, his helmet.

***

Newman/Haas Racing rookie James Hinchcliffe is working with a different race engineer this weekend.

Craig Hampson, the Canadian’s regular engineer, had a family commitment in the U.S. this weekend, so general manager Brian Lisles is filling the role.

Lisles served as race engineer at Newman/Haas for drivers such as Mario Andretti, Michael Andretti, Paul Tracy and Christian Fittipaldi.

***

Sebastien Bourdais, who joined Dale Coyne Racing two weeks before the season opener, will compete in his final IZOD IndyCar Series race until July at Toronto. Bourdais, who has 31 Indy car victories, agreed to run the road/street courses; he also has sports car commitments with Peugeot.

He heads back to Europe this week to race in a 1,000-kilometer event at Spa-Francorchamps on May 5-7. He’ll compete in June in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he started from the pole in 2010.

RACE POSTPONEMENT QUOTES:

DANICA PATRICK (No. 7 Team GoDaddy): “What a disappointing day. We started the day 17th with the GoDaddy car and I just wanted to get through the start. The start was going to be chaos, I was pretty sure of that. I left enough room to negotiate if something happened. A car was on the outside of me and we entered turn one side-by-side and went side-by-side through the chicane. Two cars were stopped outside and I had time to react – I slowed down and then got hit and spun around. It’s a crash. Things like that happen on a start in a place like this in the rain; cars can’t see coming into turn one and there’s no room for error. It’s really unfortunate. Luckily the guys were able to fix the car during the red flags and we were ready to go again when the race got called for the day. We’ll see what tomorrow brings and how they decide to restart the race. Anything could happen at this point.”

RYAN HUNTER-REAY (No. 28 Team DHL/Sun Drop Citrus Soda): “Today was frustrating for us. I made a mistake on the first lap, it was the same mistake a lot of drivers made but we’re two laps down because of it. I think we’re starting tomorrow based off the end of the day today. I obviously would have been in favor of a full restart. The DHL/Sun Drop car is strong and can be a contender here so I’d like to get back on the front row. We’ll go back to work again tomorrow.”

MARCO ANDRETTI (No. 26 Team Venom Energy): “I think today was just about survival plain and simple. We tried to keep things clean and move up when we could with the Venom car. I saw the danger factor in continuing the race – the back straightway was really bad and there was no clear view. It sounds like we will start tomorrow how things ended up today which is good for us on the 26 side, but I obviously feel for my teammates that it’s not helping.”

MIKE CONWAY (No. 27 Window World Cares): “Obviously the rain affected our day. It’s a shame. We moved the Window World Cares car up to third and were looking ok but with heavy rain it was difficult to see and it would have been dangerous to continue. I’m pretty sure it was the right thing to stop, but at the same time you want to get the race in. Obviously a lot of disappointed fans today and it would have been nice to put on a show for the; hopefully they’ll come back out tomorrow. We had some issues with the car there at the end, possibly electrical due to the rain, and that’s why we stalled. We’ll take a look tonight and see what exactly the problem was.”

HELIO CASTRONEVES (No. 3 Itaipava Team Penske): “I’m very disappointed for several reasons. First, we were involved in an accident on the first lap with Dario (Franchitti) where he went a little deep into the turn and he hit the right front of my Itaipava Team Penske car and we went straight into the wall. Fortunately, the No. 3 car guys were able to repair the damage during the delay, but we basically lost 10 laps. Then the race gets postponed. I feel very bad for the great Brazilian fans that were here today. It’s just a shame. Buit hopefully we can come back and run well tomorrow.”

WILL POWER (No. 12 Verizon Team Penske): “I’m definitely disappointed. I wanted to race and I thought we could get it in.l When the cars were out the second time the rain slowed down and I thought we could get the track in good enough shape to race. It’s unfortunate for the fans, but I guess we do need to think about safety first. The Verizon car was feeling good today and hopefully, we can come back and finish strong tomorrow.”

RYAN BRISCOE (No. 6 Penske Logistics): “It’s just really unfortunate that we couldn’t get in the race today. We’ve been happy with the Penske Logistics car all weekend. We were ready for an exciting race today, but unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate. I feel really bad for the fans – the stands were packed her today – and the stuck it out to the very end. It’s too bad for them and the people watching at home on TV because they’ve done an outstanding job with the changes they made to circuit and we were ready to put on a good show. The good thing is, we have two of the three Team Penske cars up front, so hopefully we’ll be in good shape when we do get a chance to run.”

RACE INCIDENT QUOTES:

TONY KANAAN (No. 82 Itaipava-KV Racing Technology-Lotus): “I got hit from everywhere. I don’t want to blame anyone because we couldn’t see anything. I’m pretty sure I got hit from behind and hit from the side. And Danica’s car came over top of mine and hit my hand pretty hard.”

HELIO CASTRONEVES (No 3 Itaipava Team Penske): “I thought bad things come in threes. In my case, one more. Four. Very upset because I gave plenty of room. I just wanted to get around the corner and Dario (Franchitti) went deep. His rear went sideways and when it did, he hit my left front and sent me into the wall. It was a violent crash. I probably helped him out because he was sideways and I probably straightened him out. Very sad for all our sponsors. Hopefully at Indy we will have our luck back. It’s just frustrating.”

VITOR MEIRA (No. 14 ABC Supply Co./A.J. Foyt Racing): “Halfway through the main straight on the lap that I crashed, I felt a bump. I don’t know what I hit because I couldn’t see anything at all! And then I had no brakes at all. I tried to slow it down by downshifting but obviously I had no control. Later, we saw that whatever debris I hit, it cut the brake line. But the ABC Supply team is trying to fix the car so we can get back out there.”

***

The next IZOD IndyCar Series event is the Itaipava Sao Paulo Indy 300 presented by Nestle on May 2 on the streets of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The race will be televised live at 8 a.m. (ET) by VERSUS and broadcast by the IMS Radio Network. The next Firestone Indy Lights race is Firestone Freedom 100 on May 27 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It will be televised live by VERSUS.

The team completed a total of 75 laps on Sebring’s 1.65-mile course in the No. 4 National Guard car, and will utilize its test mileage allotted for Friday during another test session scheduled in February.

This was Hildebrand’s first test as a member of Panther Racing, after an impressive audition at Phoenix International Raceway in December helped earn the 23-year-old Californian the seat in the National Guard entry. The 2009 Firestone Indy Lights champion made his IndyCar Series debut with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing last season when he made two starts filling in for an injured Mike Conway. He had tested at Sebring on two previous occasions; with Andretti Autosport in 2009 – his first time driving an IndyCar Series machine – and again in 2010 with Dale Coyne Racing.

Panther will test again next month at Firebird International Raceway prior to the IZOD IndyCar Series upcoming open test at Barber Motorsports Park. The team finished ninth in the overall point standings in 2010 with a total of 10 Top Ten andfour Top Five finishes with former driver Dan Wheldon. The IZOD IndyCar Series opens on the Streets of St. Petersburg on Sunday, March 27th.

Hildebrand is traveling directly to Shreveport, Louisiana following the test to be a part of the graduation ceremony for the 100,000th National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Cadet to graduate from the program. The Youth ChalleNGe program is a preventative at-risk youth program that targets participants who are unemployed, drug-free high school dropouts, 16-to-18 years of age. Panther has supported the program since the National Guard became the team’s primary sponsor in 2008.

JR Hildebrand, No. 4 National Guard Dallara Honda:

“We had a really good test in the National Guard car yesterday. One of the main things we came here to do is start to establish what our baseline setup is going to be this season. David Cripps and the guys on our engineering staff are getting used to me and I’m getting used to everybody at Panther. We really wanted to get some of the basics figured out. We spent quite a bit of time sorting out our brakes andgetting a feel for a variety of different things that helped us make a lot of progress by honing in on those details that will pay off for us big time during the upcoming season.”

Duno started the 200-lap race in 27th and quickly advanced five positions by the 7th lap. Fighting understeer the team worked to correct the problem with each pit stop. During a green flag pit stop Duno went down a few laps due to hitting a misplaced tire in the pit in front of hers – while she was trying to enter her pit – which caused a substantial loss of time while making her pit stop.

Milka Duno

With approximately 25 laps remaining in the race Duno caught some dirty air and lost grip in the front of the car and slid up and into the wall.

“As we have for all of our races this year we worked really hard for a good result here,” commented Duno. “We’ve been doing a great job improving our times from session to session especially with the last half of the season – but we just weren’t able to make as much of an improvement here between the sessions. I had a good start but then started having a problem with understeer and then I lost the air in the front and it was the end of the race for us.”

Duno again improved from practice to practice and delivered her fastest time of the weekend during the 200 lap race. In the first practice session Duno was 1.5 seconds off the practice leader’s time and in the second session she had cut that differential to 1.1 seconds.

Both the two practice sessions and the qualifying session for the race were on Friday – with the qualifying session sandwiched in-between. In the first practice session Duno was only able to complete 17 laps due to rain – yet delivered a best lap time only 8 tenths of a second off the practice’s leader. Heading into qualifying with less than 20 practice laps before qualifying – as was also the case for last week’s qualifying at Chicagoland – her average lap time was only 5 tenths of a second off the pole-sitter’s time – which put her 24th on the starting grid. In the final practice she was 6 tenths of a second off the leader’s time.

Milka Duno

“It was another solid result for us here at Kentucky and we were improving in each session and that’s always a good thing – but it was constant hard work throughout the two days,” said Duno. “It was our first time on this track together as a team and we really had to come together quickly. I was never really comfortable with the car, even up to the start of the race, and we needed to constantly work on the car with every single lap in every session. It was a very hard car to drive and the first laps of the race were very difficult.

I did all that I could inside the car in that first stint to improve the balance and it finally started to work – my fastest lap of the whole week was in tonight’s race. All in all – we had a good result – and we all had to work very, very hard to achieve it. My thanks to the Dale Coyne Racing crew – they were great as always.”

Motor Speedway, Target Chip Ganassi Racing’s Dario Franchitti won Saturday night’s PEAK Antifreeze & Motor Oil Indy 300 at Chicagoland Speedway in a thrilling match against Panther Racing’s Dan Wheldon. In fact, the top-three finishers in Saturday night’s contest was the exact podium finishers of this year’s most prestigious event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as Marco Andretti, in the No. 26 Team Venom Energy Dallara Honda led the Andretti Autosport brigade with a third place finish.

The 200-lap race featured a season high 12 different leaders over the course of the first of four oval races that will conclude the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series season.

For Franchitti, the husband of actress Ashley Judd it was his third win of the season, his 11th top-five or 12th top-10 in 14 races. An obviously stellar has yet to give the former NASCAR driver the points lead as Will Power driving for Mooresville, North Carolina-based Team Penske maintained control of the top spot despite having to pit for fuel inside the final laps of the event. He finished 16th.

With three races remaining this season (Kentucky, Twin Ring Motegi in Japan and Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway), Power in his No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Dallara Honda has a 23 point advantage over the Scotland native, who recorded his 26th overall IndyCar win at the 1.5-mile speed plant.

“We were struggling tonight with the Breathe Right car really in traffic as we got a little further back there. A lot of crazy stuff going on. I was just more comfortable up high,” said Franchitti. “That last stop was the key to this race. Chris Simmons, turns out he was the one that made the call. We had a lot of faith in the Firestone tires. He said leave the tires on and got us out front. Dan Wheldon, he was just pushing me all the time, just helping me. I was giving him room at the bottom. We were working together very, very well there. So between him and Scott Dixon pushing me around all night. This Team Target is amazing.”

For Wheldon, the Emberton, England native racked up his third top-five finish of the year but yet to find his No. 4 National Guard Dallara Honda to victory circle.

“Great job by everyone at National Guard Panther Racing. We continue to work very, very hard. To be honest at the end, the reason I worked so hard with Dario (Franchitti) and just tried to stay with him was because he was so clean and professional. He is a true gentleman out there and a great driver. I have to take away with the guys on our team. They did an excellent job and it was a strong performance. I have to thank my team and the fans who were definitely on their feet at the end of the night. It was an exciting race as it should be,” Wheldon remarked after notching his seventh top-10 of the year.

Ryan-Hunter Reay, the Long Beach, California winner finished fourth with Iowa Speedway winner and fellow Andretti Autosport teammate Tony Kanaan rounding out the top-five.

Former Dancing with the Stars contestant Helio Castroneves was sixth followed by Dryer & Reinbold Racing’s Justin Wilson in seventh, Franchitti’s teammate Scott Dixon in eighth, Vitor Meira driving for the legendary A.J. Foyt took ninth with Graham Rahal, one of the likeable youngsters on the IZOD IndyCar Series tour closed out the top-10.

Pole sitter and Penske Racing protégé Ryan Briscoe faded late in the race and finished 11th after leading a race high 113 laps. Bertrand Baguette driving for Conquest Racing had a uneventful night but a solid night nonetheless by finishing 12th.

Hideki Mutoh in one of two Newman / Haas Racing entries overcame contact on pit road with fellow Japanese driver Takuma Sato to claim 13th. Mutoh started eighth in his No. 06 Formula Dream / Panasonic Dallara Honda.

Danica Patrick was the first of a record five females to take the checkered flag on Saturday night. Patrick, running a full IZOD IndyCar Series schedule and a partial NASCAR schedule never found her No. 7 Godaddy.com Dallara Honda in contention and settled for what many would consider a disappointing outing. “I’m really disappointed with the race result. The GoDaddy car was handling well all night, I just didn’t have enough speed to stay with the lead pack. It’s tough to end the event like this because we were really competitive and I thought we’d have more out there tonight,” Patrick remarked.

The feel good story of the weekend had to come from the 16th place finisher of Sarah Fisher. The Commercial Point, Ohio native used pit strategy to soar her No. 67 Dollar General into the lead and gained control over the field for nine laps. Once passed by Briscoe, Fisher kept her Sarah Fisher Racing own machine comfortably in the top-five before having to make a green flag pit stop early into the second-half of the race. Fisher’s gamble didn’t pay off but her energy and ability proved to the world that she still has the talent and rightfully gained her attention that easily overshadowed her 16th place run. Fisher, a long time spectacle in the IndyCar scene is a pre-race favorite when the season resumes action next Saturday night at Kentucky Speedway.

Mario Moraes led the KV Racing Technology train. It was a tough night though for the KV Racing organization as all three of their drivers including E.J. Viso and Sato experienced their share of misfortune Saturday night.

Davey Hamilton traded in his microphone for a steering wheel this weekend and was able to steer his de Ferran Dragon Racing entry from 28th to 18th.

Venezuelan’s Milka Duno had a solid night. After starting her Dale Coyne Racing (DCR), No. 18 Citgo Dallara Honda 26th, Duno, a now Miami, Florida native kept her nose clean, gained additional speedway experience and maneuvered a quiet 19th place run. It was the best showing for Duno thus far in 2010 and gives her DCR team momentum leaning into Kentucky Speedway next weekend.

Ed Carpenter, making an infrequent start in the IZOD IndyCar Series had a strong automobile Saturday night but a series of obstacles kept the Vision / Panther Racing out of contention for his first career win.

Alex Lloyd, Duno’s teammate flexed his muscle in his No. 19 Boy Scouts of America Dallara Honda but a flat tire and a late race spin forced a 21st place finish.

Jay Howard, the former Firestone Indy Lights Champion had a tough weekend. After battling a series of hiccups throughout the weekend, the troubles continued during the race with gear issues but Howard and his Sarah Fisher Racing team never gave up and claimed 22nd, despite eventually retiring from the event, missing 39 of the 200 circuits.

Simona de Silverestro appeared well on her way to a solid top-20 finish Saturday night but the Team Worldgate / HVM Racing female rookie experienced mechanical woes near the end of the race and retired in 23rd.

Ana Beatriz making her third career IZOD IndyCar Series start of the season made her Chicagoland debut in a second Dryer & Reinbold Racing entry subbing for the injured Mike Conway appeared to be the fastest female of the night but light contact with the turn four wall ruined those chances. The Brazilian in the No. 24 Dad’s Root Beer Dallara Honda was unable to overcome further mechanical gremlins which eventually led to her completing only 88 of 200 circuits.

Alex Tagliani showed he had a fast FAZZT Racing Team entry Saturday but contact on lap 85 dashed his chances of a good finish.

Sato and Viso claimed 26th and 27th respectively.

Bringing up the rear of the field was Tomas Scheckter and Raphael Matos in 28th and 29th respectively. Scheckter and Matos brought out the first caution of the night on lap four and were unable to return to competition. It was sour night for Matos as he had high hopes for a better finish in his 29th birthday.

Earlier Saturday, James Hinchcliffe won his very first Firestone Indy Lights race on an oval beating out Pippa Mann by 0.0159 of a second – the third-closest margin of victory in series history – to win the Chicagoland 100. Hinchcliffe in his second season of Indy Lights is hoping to make the jump to the IZOD IndyCar Series in 2011. It was Hinchcliffe’s third triumph of the year.

Next up for the IZOD IndyCar Series tour is a stop in Sparta, Kentucky for the running of the Kentucky Indy 300 on September 4th. The race will be telecast live in High Definition at 8 p.m. (ET) by VERSUS. The race will air live on the IMS Radio Network, XM channel 145 and Sirius channel 212. The race also will be carried on www.indycar.com. The 2010 Firestone Indy Lights season continues with the Drive Smart.
In her first practice session on Friday morning her on-track time was seriously reduced due to a mechanical issue which caused her to have only 13 laps in the 60-minute session, but it was enough for her to deliver a best lap time only 7 tenths of a second off the practice’s leader.

The mechanical issue fixed, but with no opportunity for a shake-down, Duno qualified 26th for the start of tonight’s race – with a differential of 8 tenths of a second from the pole sitter’s time.

Milka Duno

In the last practice session after qualifying Duno was able to reduce the differential from the practice’s fastest driver to 6 tenths of a second.

“I’m happy to be back on the ovals and I really enjoy racing at Chicagoland,” said Duno. “We had some bad luck in the first practice session that really cut down on our practice time but we were still able to improve which is always a good sign. Many thanks to Dale and the team for all of their effort and I’m happy that we had a good result at their hometown circuit!”

Hill, Virginia (August 6, 2010) – At the largest gathering of Boy Scouts in this decade, Indy Car team owner Dale Coyne and his wife, Gail, were honored for their contribution in this the Boy Scouts of America’s 100th Anniversary and 2010 National Scout Jamboree. An audience of nearly 80,000 on Saturday night were treated to great entertainment, a bright and prosperous outlook for the future, and tributes to those who have helped to make this 100th Anniversary year memorable, inspiring, and meaningful.

The Boy Scouts of America and Dale Coyne Racing have joined forces to expose young people to an innovative educational arena through the fun and excitement of auto racing. Chief Scout Executive Robert Mazzuca recognized the Coynes for their support of the BSA Indy Car during the 2010 racing season.

“We can’t thank Dale and Gail Coyne enough for what they have done to show our Scouting family the relevance of education, science, and technology all on a very modern platform like Indy Car racing,” he said. Mazzuca spoke from the 375-foot main stage of the jamboree’s arena show, which was broadcast via podcast and the Internet to millions of Scouts worldwide. This mega gathering of Scouts takes place around every four years.

It was the perfect setting to laud Dale Coyne Racing and the BSA Indy Car’s stellar fourth-place finish at the Indianapolis 500 with driver Alex Lloyd. Lloyd and his wife, Samantha, also were on hand with many other supporters who have helped to make 2010 a special year for the Boy Scouts of America during its 100th Anniversary Celebration. The Coynes and Lloyds were treated to a special day of appearances and activities including media tours, an autograph session, and an aerial view of the jamboree site aboard a Blackhawk helicopter.

“To see this many outstanding youths in one location and the honor and dignity that they possess, gives great hope to the future of our next generation,” commented Dale Coyne. “This is our first jamboree, and it is a moving experience.”

The main arena show this past Saturday night featured a host of celebrities and special guests. Fort A.P. Hill, a military installation located near Bowling Green, Virginia, has been a gracious host to national Scout jamborees since 1981. There is growing excitement about The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in southern West Virginia, which will be the new home of future national Scout jamborees.

1. Kanaan, Meira, Hildebrand fare well in triathlons

2. Lloyd, Coyne participate in National Boy Scout Jamboree

3. Martinez in for Genoa at Mid-Ohio

4. Of note

1. Kanaan, Meira, Hildebrand fare well in triathlons: Appropriately, Tony Kanaan’s number for the 19th Huntington’s Disease Triathlon on Aug. 1 was 711.

Kanaan, the 2004 IZOD IndyCar Series champion who drives the No. 11 Team 7-Eleven car for Andretti Autosport, and A.J. Foyt Racing driver Vitor Meira were among 560 competitors in the event in Miami. All proceeds go to support research to combat and potentially cure the inherited degenerative brain disorder.

Meira finished third in his age group (30-34) in the Olympic-distance race that includes a 1,500-meter swim, 40K bike and 10K run. He had a total time of 2 hours, 8 minutes, 16 seconds. Kanaan finished fourth in his age group (35-39) in the sprint triathlon that includes a 400-yard swim, 12.4-mile bike and 3.1-mile run in 1:10.14.

“I don’t think I can call myself a triathlete, but I’m in love with the sport,” Kanaan said. “It’s harder than racing my own car. Here it’s just you; you can’t blame anyone else for how you do.”

Kanaan will compete in the inaugural Miami 70.3 on Oct. 30, while Meira will compete in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship on Nov. 13 in Clearwater, Fla.

In Indianapolis, 2009 Firestone Indy Lights champion J.R. Hildebrand, who will make his IZOD IndyCar Series debut this weekend in the No. 24 RollCoater car for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio, finished 17th overall (second in his age group) in the Tri Indy Sprint Triathlon. He completed the 500-meter swim, 20K bike and 5K run in 1:05.27. Firestone Indy Lights drivers Dan Clarke and Gustavo Yacaman also participated in the sprint triathlon event.

2. Lloyd, Coyne participate in National Boy Scout Jamboree: IZOD IndyCar Series team owner Dale Coyne and driver Alex Lloyd attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree over the weekend at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of Scouting.

The No. 19 Dale Coyne Racing car driven by Lloyd carries the Boy Scouts of America centennial logo on its sidepods.

About 80,000 Boy Scouts from 50 states and 26 countries attended the festivities July 31. The Jamboree, which began July 26, continues through Aug. 4.

“I love working with the Scouts and doing events with them, and to be able to be a part of a very special day for all Scouts was a great honor,” Lloyd said. “I met some great people and saw thousands of Scouts enjoying the great outdoors and have fun doing activities celebrating being a part of Scouting. As a former Scout back in England, it was amazing to go such an event and witness the magnitude first hand.”

3. Martinez in for Genoa at Mid-Ohio: David Martinez will join the Firestone Indy Lights grid for the event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Aug. 6-8. The 28-year-old native of Monterrey, Mexico will drive Genoa’s No. 36 entry with sponsorship from telecommunications company Quamtel and the Racing for Mexico program.

“I am extremely happy and proud to be able to drive the Quamtel car and to be part of this program with Genoa,” Martinez said. “There has been a great amount of effort put into making all this happen, we have an impressive group of professionals working with us behind the scenes, and we are very confident that all the hard work and preparation will pay off with a top-notch program and a strong result on the track.

“Genoa and Quamtel have put a lot of hard work into making this happen and they have put their trust in me, so now it’s my turn to make it happen on the track.”

Martinez has 19 years of racing experience, including Champ Car, A1GP, The Rolex 24 at Daytona, The 12 Hours of Sebring, and Atlantic Championship. Martinez has chosen Firestone Indy Lights to re-ascend the ladder to the IZOD IndyCar Series.

“I have not previously driven the Indy Lights car, and we won’t have a chance to test before the event, so I’ll have to adapt quickly,” Martinez said. “With a great team, a great car, and a great engineer behind me, I’m confident that after a few laps I’ll have the feel for it, so we can start working through our event plan. Mid-Ohio is a track that I love and one that I’ve had success at in the past so I feel very comfortable to make my Firestone Indy Lights debut there.”

The Mid-Ohio event and future 2010 events help prepare him for a potential full campaign in 2011.

“It’s a pleasure to have David aboard,” said Genoa owner Mark Olson. “He’s a pro, and it’s always a pleasure to work with professionals. Naturally one wants to manage expectations a bit, but we have great engineering, great equipment and a great driver, so we’re expecting a great result. We’ve assembled a pretty good plan for getting David up to speed, continually developing David and the car with each stint, and then going for a result at the appropriate time.”

4. Of note: Bobby Rahal, president of the Road Racing Drivers Club, announced the election of 31 members for 2010, including eight with IZOD IndyCar Series ties. Invitees included Ryan Briscoe, Gil de Ferran, Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan, Graham Rahal, Jimmy Vasser, Dan Wheldon and Justin Wilson…Work began Aug. 2 on more than $5.5 million of road improvements to prepare for the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix in 2011. Officials estimate work will be completed by mid-November… Chip Ganassi will be the Honorary Chairman of the 22nd Motorsports Hall of Fame of America Induction Ceremony on Aug. 25 in Detroit. Ganassi is the first team owner to capture in a single season the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400.

***

The 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series season continues Aug. 8 with the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio presented by Westfield Insurance at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The race will be telecast live in High Definition at 3 p.m. (ET) by VERSUS. The race will air live on the IMS Radio Network, XM channel 145 and Sirius channel 212. The race also will be carried on www.indycar.com. The 2010 Firestone Indy Lights season continues with the Mid-Ohio 100 on Aug. 8 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

KV Racing Technology

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 29, 2010) — E.J. Viso brings a new attitude to this weekend’s Camping World Grand Prix at the Glen, the ninth stop on the 17-race IZOD IndyCar Series.

Viso, driver of the No. 8 PDVSA — KV Racing Technology Honda/Dallara/Firestone machine, returns to the famed 3.37-mile, 11-turn Watkins Glen road circuit after an impressive third place finish ten days ago at Iowa Speedway. It was the personable Venezuela driver’s best career showing in the IndyCar Series and tied KV Racing Technology’s top performance in the campaign.

Viso, teaming with engineer Bill Pappas and the entire PDVSA KVRT team, seeks another podium run when practice opens this Friday (July 2) for Sunday’s 60-lap main event on the legendary track. Viso’s confidence at the Glen comes after back-to-back top 10 finishes (7th in 2008 and 10th in 2009) and Pappas’ winning strategy last year with Justin Wilson driving to victory lane for Dale Coyne Racing.

Viso hopes Pappas’ setups this weekend will put him back in on the victory podium when the green flag drops at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

But Viso won’t be the only KVRT driver ready for an outstanding run this Sunday. Series rookie Takuma Sato, in the No. 5 Lotus—KVRT Honda/Dallara/Firestone entry, must be considered a challenger on the permanent road course. Sato, who qualified sixth in his last permanent road circuit race at Barber Motorsports Park, will be back in his comfort zone with seven years of Formula One competition. Sato had a tough learning curve with four straight oval races in the past two months but demonstrated impressive performances. He now returns to his roots on the road course. Lotus also has a storied history at Watkins Glen.

The third driver for KVRT this weekend will be talented, young Brazilian Mario Moraes, who started fourth in last year’s Camping World Grand Prix. Moraes has driven the No. 32 KV Racing Technology Honda/Dallara/Firestone car to sixth at Long Beach this year and fifth at Infineon Raceway last year for his top road circuit finishes in the IndyCar Series.

The Watkins Glen event will be televised live on ABC-TV beginning at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

DRIVER QUOTES:

E.J. VISO, #8 PDVSA – KV RACING TECHNOLOGY HONDA/DALLARA/FIRESTONE:

“Watkins Glen is a beautiful track, so many different types of corners, some especially fast with a lot of g’s. There is a lot of changes in altitude and types of surface from pavement to tarmac. Unfortunately, we couldn’t test there because of the rain, but despite this, I think we still have the potential of doing very well. Scoring my first podium in the IndyCar Series is a great achievement.

Being in the series for two and a half years, I think a podium finish was needed for me. Now my initial feeling is to try and win a race. I believe we have so much potential here at KV Racing Technology. There is no reason why we can’t be on the podium more often. We have been very close this year but we have had our share of problems.”

TAKUMA SATO, #5 LOTUS – KV RACING TECHNOLOGY HONDA/DALLARA/FIRESTONE:

“The first half of my season was like a roller coaster. Very exciting and some surprises, good and bad, but I had great fun. We haven’t yet been able to achieve the results we wanted but I am learning a lot and feel very positive that we are now close to some strong results. So I can’t wait to be back to the road courses again after two months of many left turns and am looking forward to a challenging and exciting second half of the season.”

MARIO MORAES, #32 KV RACING TECHNOLOGY HONDA/DALLARA/FIRESTONE:

“I am excited to get back to road courses again. The last few races for KV Racing Technology have not shown what we are capable of and I hope to change this at Watkins Glen this week. I have some good memories of this track, finishing 7th in 2008 and last year my best IZOD IndyCar road/street course start of fourth. Unfortunately the test here got cancelled a few weeks ago because of the weather, but I’m confident that we will still have a good weekend.”

LOTUS HISTORY AT WATKINS GLEN

The Lotus legacy at Watkins Glen is long and prestigious including seven Formula One victories dating back to the Glen’s first F-1 event in 1961. Innes Ireland drove the Lotus 21 to the Glen victory lane that year, while Jim Clark won the 1962, 1966 and 1967 Glen F-1 races for Lotus. Jochen Rindt won for Lotus in 1969 with Emerson Fittipaldi winning his first F-1 race at the Glen for Lotus in 1970. Ronnie Peterson captured the 1973 F-1 race in a Lotus 72.
