(November 19, 2011) - Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon and his Danny Stockman-led Bass Pro Shops team ended their second year of full-time competition in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with a 10th-place finish in the season finale race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, allowing Dillon to clinch the 2011 Driver’s Championship for Bass Pro Shops and Richard Childress Racing’s black No. 3 Chevrolet team.

The accomplishment marks the second NCWTS championship for RCR, who earned the inaugural NCWTS series championship in 1995 with Mike Skinner, also in a No. 3 Chevrolet. The 42-year-old racing organization, headed by Dillon’s grandfather Richard Childress, now has 14 motorsports championships overall, spread across the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, NCWTS and the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.

“It’s so special when you’re family,” said patriarch and team owner Richard Childress. “Our whole family is involved, and I remember the very first championship with Dale Earnhardt. I had the same feeling tonight watching Austin, my grandson. It’s just so special to have the family and know how hard all of them worked. Danny Stockman (crew chief), Bass Pro Shops, everybody on the No. 3 team did so much to help put it together. Austin kept it together so good under the pressure. For a 21-year-old guy, man, to be able to hang in there and do what he did was very special.”

Dillon, the 2010 NCWTS Rookie of the Year, becomes the first driver in the 11-year history of the NCWTS to earn the rookie title and then the driving championship the subsequent year. He also holds the honor of youngest champion to be crowned in the series’ history. Along with Ty Dillon, the 2011 ARCA Racing Series champion, the Dillon’s are the only brothers who have earned same-year championships on a national stock car tour.

“We definitely worked hard this year and accomplished this as a team,” said Dillon. “This was our goal at the beginning of the year and no one ever gave up. Danny Stockman and every member of the Bass Pro Shops team worked nonstop. We rebounded from so many little mistakes and unfortunate incidents this year-the hood flipping up at Kentucky Speedway, for example. It’s the way you react to the undesirable situations that show what a championship team is made of, and these guys reacted in all the right ways. This championship means so much to me and I’m thrilled to be able to represent my family, Richard Childress Racing, Bass Pro Shops and NASCAR as a champion.”

En route to the 2011 title, Dillon and his Danny Stockman-led Bass Pro Shops team celebrated in Victory Lane at Nashville Superspeedway and Chicagoland Speedway, posting an impressive five pole awards among 10 top-five and 16 top-10 finishes in 25 races. Dillon finished second on four separate occasions.

At 29-years-old, the 2011 championship marks crew chief Stockman’s first in only his second year as a crew chief. Prior to joining RCR in December 2009, he earned two championships (’07 and ’09) in the NCWTS as a truck chief at Kevin Harvick, Inc.

“Like Austin said, the last restart was quite gut wrenching,” added Stockman. “Just awesome to be a part of this deal with Richard, Mike, Austin and Tina, and everybody that just let me have this opportunity to be a part of it. Austin Dillon is just a great up-and-coming race car driver. I am just really happy to be a part of it. We have a heck of a good race team, and just got to thank everybody back at the shop for all their hard work.”

The nation’s No. 1 outdoor retail leader, Bass Pro Shops, was positioned as the primary partner on Dillon’s No. 3 Chevrolet for the duration of the 2010 and 2011 race seasons. A long-time RCR supporter, Bass Pro Shops began its association with Richard Childress Racing in 1998 with associate sponsorship of the No. 3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet Monte Carlo made famous by seven-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt. Bass Pro Shops’ partnership with RCR has also included sponsorship of the No. 29 Chevrolet driven by Kevin Harvick and primary sponsorship of Earnhardt’s eldest son, Kerry Earnhardt, in RCR’s No. 33 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet for six Sprint Cup Series races in 2004. The company sponsored Ty Dillon for his season-finale race in the ARCA Racing Series this year.

“Congratulations to Austin from all of us at Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine and all our Tracker independent dealers,” said Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris. “Austin is a fine young man who loves racing, loves the outdoors and has a great future ahead of him. What a proud moment for Austin’s grandparents Richard and Judy Childress and his mom and dad Mike and Tina Dillon.”

Dillon joins an exclusive list of NCWTS driving champions, including Todd Bodine, Ron Hornaday, Jr., Johnny Benson, Ted Musgrave, Bobby Hamilton, Travis Kvapil, Mike Bliss, Jack Sprague, Greg Biffle and Mike Skinner. He will be formally honored at the annual NNS and NCWTS Awards Banquet at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel on Monday, Nov. 21. SPEED will broadcast the banquet on Friday, Dec. 2 from 7-9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

AUSTIN DILLON

RICHARD CHILDRESS

DANNY STOCKMAN

THE MODERATOR: Let’s roll into our championship race team in the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. It’s the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet, driver is Austin Dillon, our crew chief is Danny Stockman, Jr., and our owner is Richard Childress. This is Richard Childress’ second NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers’ championship. His first came in the inaugural season in 1995 with driver Mike Skinner. And crew chief Danny Stockman, this is your first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship.

Richard, you talked to me out in the hall. You’ve had a lot of championships, but how does this one rank.

RICHARD CHILDRESS: It’s got to be right up there at the top. It’s so special when you’re family. Our whole family is involved, and I remember the very first championship with Dale Earnhardt. I had the same feeling tonight watching Austin, my grandson. It’s just so special to have the family and know how hard all of them worked.

I was at Ohio, Toledo, when Ty won his championship a few weeks ago, and just it’s a dream come true to have both these young men win championships.

And Danny Stockman, Bass Pro, everybody did so much to help put it together, and Austin kept it together so good under the pressure. For a 21 year old guy man, to be able to hang in there and do what he did was very special.

THE MODERATOR: Speaking of which, our championship driver has joined us now. That’s Austin Dillon. He drives the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet. At 21 years, six months and 22 days, he becomes the youngest champion in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series history. Congratulations, Austin. Tell us what it’s like to win a championship in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

AUSTIN DILLON: How does it feel? Amazing, best feeling I’ve ever had in my entire life. I’m so happy for my grandfather. He’s got two champs this year. I’m worried about Ty coming back and beating me for the youngest champion ever. He’s pretty awesome. It’s going to be a wonderful week, a wonderful month. Can’t ask to go out of the Truck Series any better than this, coming out as a champion.

Danny Stockman has done a great job this year. We’re all a family over at RCR, and we fight like dogs, but we love each other the same. It’s cool that we’re out there, a championship. It was wild. The last restart was not the way I planned it. It made it interesting, but we still came out on top.

THE MODERATOR: Danny Stockman, talk about being the crew chief for this championship team.

DANNY STOCKMAN: Yeah, like Austin said, the last restart was quite gut wrenching. Just awesome to be a part of this deal with Richard and Mike and Austin and Tina and everybody that just let me have this opportunity to be a part of it. Austin Dillon being a great race car driver, up and coming race car driver, just really glad to be a part of it. Got a heck of a good race team, and just got to thank everybody back at the shop there. Really good.

Q. Austin, a little more detail on that last restart. Was it a tire issue? And I think Hornaday said when he went by you there that he saw oil or something like that. Was that communicated to you, as well?

AUSTIN DILLON: I didn’t see the oil, but I know right behind the right front fender we were knocked in. I don’t know what happened. I didn’t hit anybody on the track, but I think it happened on pit road. We got really tight once I got back there, but I think it was more the conservative side when I was three wide. We were three wide in the middle, and to force a spot right there is not worth it.

I wish we would have finished I think we had a shot to win the race. We really had a fast race car. When you get back there in that situation, your head tells you to be smart, but at the same time they’re telling you to go because you’re close there. I went as hard as I could, started entering the corner harder at the end and helped us out. But we got really tight when the fender got knocked in. I think it was close really with the fender, but the rain came at the right time, the Lord was looking after us, and it’s really cool to be where we are today.

Q. Austin, I want to say you didn’t really say anything on the radio as you were falling back there or even for the few laps after that. Did you not want to say anything? What was going through your head?

AUSTIN DILLON: There was no need to, just focus and get back on the wheel. When you get down like that, you can’t do anything but drive back to the front, and we’ve done that all year. I’ve struggled in certain spots and restarts. Actually my restarts have been really great to the end of the year. That one wasn’t a bad restart. I kind of Johnny went I didn’t anticipate as well as I needed to, and when Denny stuck me three wide, I probably could have made something out of it in the middle, could have got to the top quicker, but I didn’t know who was out there and no one said clear on the radio, so we obviously weren’t.

When you get three wide, and these trucks, the air pushes you around so much it’s hard to run three wide, and down the back stretch it was really hairy, so I just rolled out a little bit, got back in line and went to working on everybody in front of me and were able to pass quite a few of them.

            Q. Can you just talk about what the last six, seven weeks have been like? You’re leading the points coming out of each of these last six or seven races. Has it been nerve wracking or has it been easier to handle than you thought?

AUSTIN DILLON: You know, watching these guys in the Cup Series talk to each other, it’s pretty wild. I listen to Tony Stewart and I listen to Carl Edwards and the different approaches they take to it. Offense is your best defense most of the time in racing, and I felt like today I probably played too much defense. It wasn’t enough offense, and my grandfather got onto me midway through the race and said, You can’t get comfortable here, you’ve got to keep racing. Went back and got on the wheel and drove up through a bunch of them and found ourselves in second.

We had a fast race car there at the end, and when we got three wide, I had to play conservative because it wasn’t worth it. It worked out for the better of everything, and leading up to this week, I’ve just been hunting and fishing, doing stuff I love to do, keep my mind off of it, hanging out with the people I always hang out with, talking to Danny, preparing ourselves the way we do for every race.

There’s no difference coming into the championship. You can’t approach things different. When you’re sitting outside the lead, you can take more chances, that’s for sure. Johnny could take more chances today than we could, Buescher the same way, they have nothing to lose. Stewart is right, he has nothing to lose for Sunday. It’s hard to play offense. You’ve got to play off, though. My best advice to Carl is to go out there and play offense, go out there he knows what he has to do. They have a different situation; they’re very close in points. There’s a benefit there.

I actually talked to Ricky Carmichael, he’s won lots of championships, and I was talking to him and he said the closest championship was probably the easiest because he knew what he had to do. 16th was what we were supposed to finish to win, and we knew that going in, and got us a top 10, so we did our job.

Q. That said, Austin, what was today like, because it wasn’t maybe a normal day because of the rain and everything. Was there a chance for nerves to get in? And with winning the championship, what’s your experience so far? Is it everything you thought it would be?

AUSTIN DILLON: Today with the rain, it did make it you had to think a little bit more, I guess. You could think about it longer. But I actually watched a Clint Eastwood movie during the middle of the day. That was pretty cool. It kept my mind off it. I laughed a few times. It was the one with the chimpanzee. “Any Which Way But Loose” is what I watched today. I watched it with my buddy Tim Dugger and my girlfriend and his girlfriend, we just hung out and watched the movie and waited on everything, and when it got down to it, started listening to my music, had our team meeting. That’s when we all get emotional is in our team meeting because we all know why we’re here, and it was really cool, we all had a big prayer session before, and I told them I was nervous going in, as nervous as they are, but we’ve got to go do our job, and we did it.

(Photo Credit: Jared C. Tilton / Getty Images for NASCAR)

Q. What about winning the championship?

AUSTIN DILLON: The championship, yeah, it’s amazing. You get to spray champagne everywhere. You’re on top of the world. It’s the best feeling in the world. You stink real bad. Darrell Waltrip told me the best feeling in the world is going home stinking and having a trophy in your lap, and we were able to do that. I think now I’m more nervous about making a speech Monday, but we’ll figure that out. I’ve got some time.

Q. Going back to your celebration, are you maybe the first NASCAR champion to try planking on concrete?

AUSTIN DILLON: Yeah, the planking is cool. It’s something new. I feel like the good thing about NASCAR, we’ve got some really good drivers coming up. I am friends with a bunch of them that are going to represent the sport well. I think NASCAR has a lot to look forward to going forward. I feel that the newer fans coming in are young, and it’s really cool for sponsors, and I love the social media network, and I’ll be out there having fun any way I can. Yeah, I think that was one of the coolest planks you can do, I guess, winning a championship and then planking.

Q. Maybe your riskiest move of the night, too?

AUSTIN DILLON: That was probably my riskiest move, yeah. But it was wet enough where I could have got a little slide, and I have Sparco suit, so it’s the best suit in the world.

Q. You didn’t think about “Tebowing,” did you?

AUSTIN DILLON: Yeah, I kind of did. I pointed up when I was over the car. I didn’t get down on one knee, but that would have been cool to Tebow. He got it done last night, too; it was pretty impressive.

Q. What were you thinking when the rains came? Did you figure you had it at that particular time?

AUSTIN DILLON: Never thought about it. Andy Houston, my spotter, said, That’s probably going to be it, man, and I stayed in the truck and waited for the signal. It kind of drizzled, it was drizzling, and I knew they had lost the track because it was so slippery driving around under caution, and my grandfather said, Do not spin out under caution; slow down. I said, Wow, if I do this, that would be really a good way to lose the championship, rolling around under rain, so I backed her off and pulled in, and Hermie Sadler told me I won the championship, so I started celebrating and planked.

Actually, you know what, I did play some Xbox this week and tweeted my Xbox Live name and had like 50 people play Xbox Live Call of Duty with me. That was pretty fun, too. That was my RCR clan. It was good. I ended up on top like three times, but it was cool because everybody was going to tune into the championship, and they’re like mention the RCR clan in victory lane. I didn’t do it, but I got it in the media center, so I’m going to go back and play with them and talk to them about the championship. It’s cool, I interacted with fans that way.

Q. For Richard, what do you think allowed him to have the poise and everything to hold onto this lead in the points the last seven weeks, and is there anything that he’s done that you obviously have watched him race since he was little, but is there anything he’s done in the last two months that either particularly impressed you or surprised you?

RICHARD CHILDRESS: I think watching the race at Texas was the key to winning this championship. He was conservative when he had to be and he raced hard when he had to be. I think that was a big win we finished second, but it was a great run, and I think going into tonight, he I haven’t talked to him a whole lot this week because I didn’t want to add any extra pressure. He handles pressure better than a lot of people his age, he and his brother does, Ty. I couldn’t believe with the way he handled himself in the ARCA championship. They must get it from their mom because me and their dad gets a little wound up sometimes.

One other thing: Tonight with Johnny winning, that was 51 wins for ECR, and I told them at our kickoff banquet last year that they won 50 last year, so I told them you’ve got to beat it this year, so tonight made it 51. Great job for ECR.

Q. With the strength and the momentum you have after winning this championship, you’re taking the entire team with you to the Nationwide Series. What are you expecting for next season?

AUSTIN DILLON: Yeah, we’ve built a great team going into 2012. We’ve been working a little bit leading up to this race, and Stockman has been really harping on worried about this race, not worried about next year. But we’re so excited I can’t wait. It’s going to be amazing, feel like we can do it again. Two in a row would be awesome, just keep moving up and doing our job and we’ll be there at the end.

I was able to run some really good races with the Nationwide Series this year, and I feel like we stack up well, and we’ll have similar equipment. RCR and Pop Pop always make sure we have the best, and we’ll go out there and do our job in that No. 3.

THE MODERATOR: Congratulations to the No. 3 truck, Austin, Danny and Richard.

(November 4, 2011) – Richard Childress Racing and AdvoCare, an award-winning premier health and wellness company, have entered into a partnership for the company to be the primary sponsor of the No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet Impala driven by Austin Dillon for 20 races in the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series season.

Dillon, who currently drives the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, has an 11-point lead in the driver championship point standings with two races remaining. The 21-year-old from Lewisville, N.C., made his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut in 2008 and, in 11 races in the series, has earned two top-five and four top-10 finishes.

“Continuing our solid history with the motorsports community, we are proud to partner with Richard Childress Racing to bring back the No. 3 car in the Nationwide Series with Austin Dillon as the driver. This is the start of an exciting era for both AdvoCare and Richard Childress Racing,” AdvoCare President and CEO Richard Wright said, “This extraordinary opportunity is the next step forward in our strategic efforts to take AdvoCare to new heights.”

RCR returns full time to the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2012 after a one-year hiatus but with a strong heritage to build from. RCR has earned 56 victories and five series championships since its first season in 2000. Kevin Harvick won overall championships (driver and owner) in 2001 and 2006, Harvick and Johnny Sauter won the owner championship in 2003, Jeff Burton and Scott Wimmer won the owner championship in 2007 and Clint Bowyer won the driver championship in 2008.

“We are excited to have AdvoCare on board as Austin makes the full time step into the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2012 driving the No. 3 Chevrolet,” said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “AdvoCare is a company with a great culture that creates a great fit with RCR. We look forward to working closely with them and the other partners on the No. 3 team to build a competitive and successful program.”

AdvoCare was the title sponsor of the AdvoCare 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The Plano, Texas, based company is also a platinum sponsor of Operation Homefront, an organization dedicated to providing emergency assistance to those serving in the military and their families. The AdvoCare National Spokesperson is NFL championship-winning and championship game MVP quarterback Drew Brees.

“It’s great to have a company like AdvoCare on board for the move into the NASCAR Nationwide Series because I already use and benefit from some of their products,” said Dillon. “I believe strongly in their products and quickly became a believer in the strength of their company after the first meeting with them. I’m looking forward to the challenge of moving with Danny Stockman (crew chief) and the guys to the NASCAR Nationwide Series with the No. 3. Our goal next year is to win races and compete for rookie of the year honors.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr., earned back-to-back NASCAR Nationwide Series championships (1998, ’99) driving the No. 3 Chevrolet for Dale Earnhardt Inc. He also earned two Nationwide Series victories in the No. 3 for RCR, in February 2002 at Daytona International Speedway and July 2010 at Daytona International Speedway.

“Austin is taking the next step in his career by moving to the Nationwide Series,” said Earnhardt. “He has used the 3 predominantly throughout his career, and I for one am excited to know he’ll be running it at the next level. He’s a sharp kid with a lot of potential. The respect he shows the sport and his competitors is a reflection of the family values that has molded him into the person he is today. I wish him luck and can’t wait to compete with him on the track next season.”

About AdvoCare

Tilton/Getty Images for NASCAR

Austin Dillon brought Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet to Victory Lane in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition at Nashville Superspeedway on Friday night. Shortly after a two-tire pit stop that helped the team secure track position, the 21-year-old NCWTS sophomore made a pass for the lead inside of 25 laps remaining to earn his first NCWTS win of 2011 and third of his young career.

After struggling with race setups during the first practice session of the day on Friday morning, crew chief Danny Stockman made sweeping changes to the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet late during final practice on Friday afternoon that helped the team secure the fastest speed in final practice. Dillon went on to earn his third pole award of the season, and the 10th of his career.

Starting the 150-lap, 200-mile race from the point position, Dillon jumped to a commanding lead early in the race before slipping to third in the running order after developing a tight-handling condition. When green-flag pit stops began to cycle through on lap 56, Dillon brought the black No. 3 Chevrolet down pit road for four Goodyear tires, Sunoco fuel and adjustments designed to help the handling of the truck.

The changes worked, and Dillon posted the fastest laps of the field in subsequent laps, while still running in the third position. A caution for debris on lap 101 provided the opportune time for teams to make their final pit stop of the night, and Stockman opted to make a two-tire pit stop in order to secure track position. The decision proved solid as Dillon was positioned in the lead for the lap-106 restart, but fell back to second when green-flag racing resumed.

He spent the next 15 laps tracking down race leader Johnny Sauter, and was able to make a move on lap 128, slipping past the veteran driver and current point leader to take control of the race. Once in clean air, Dillon drove to a commanding lead and crossed the finish line 3.981 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTES:

“It was all about sticking with the race leader (Johnny Sauter) as long as I could to keep the pressure on. I knew he was getting looser and looser and I finally had to get up in there with him and loosen him up a little more, and when it happened we just went on. It’s just so great to have a win. When you get a win, everything just seems to be a lot easier.”

“I’ve been talking about this guitar all week. They said in the driver’s meeting today that it was voted one of the 10 coolest trophies by Sports Illustrated. It’s just a beautiful trophy.”

CREW CHIEF DANNY STOCKMAN QUOTE:

“I looked at all the tire wears all day and the tires weren’t wearing, and I knew if we had track position and clean air, we were going to go. When it came down to it, we didn’t even have clean air and we still won. Tires weren’t an issue tonight.”

Dillon qualified second and started the 150-lap race on the outside front row, pitting under green-flag conditions on lap 51 for four Goodyear Tires, Sunoco Fuel and an air pressure adjustment designed to correct a loose-handling race truck.

Dillon was in the eighth position following the pit stop, and drove his way up to second within two laps as pit stops cycled through for the 36-truck field. The third caution flag of the race was displayed on lap 103 and Dillon was positioned in fourth, on the outside line, for the lap-106 restart. The 20-year-old High Point University student dropped back in the running order on the restart, but soon began his forward ascent.

He jumped to the inside line and made a move on the backstretch to pass Nelson Piquet, Jr. in the No. 8 Chevrolet, but got loose and spun. The rest of the field scattered around the track to avoid the spinning black No. 3, and luckily, no one hit Dillon. Crew chief Danny Stockman immediately called the driver down pit road, where the Bass Pro Shops crew serviced the Chevrolet with two separate pit stops, taking on two tires each time.

Restarting at the tail end of the lead lap, Dillon knew it was “go” time. Despite the spin, his Chevrolet was still fast and he was able to advance to 11th before the end of the race. He is now sixth in the point standings heading into the series’ next race at Dover International Speedway on May 13.

“It’s disappointing. I got a little bit anxious. I dove to the inside of Nelson Piquet Jr. in the No. 8 truck and got loose when I caught some air on the side of his truck. We never touched. I’m just so thankful no one hit us when we went sliding through the field.”

Race Notes and Quotes

This Week’s Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet at Darlington Raceway Raceway … Austin Dillon will pilot chassis No. 005 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Camping World Truck Series stable in this weekend’s Too Tough To Tame 200. This is the same chassis that Dillon drove to Victory Lane at Iowa Speedway in July 2010, leading 187 of 200 laps, earning a perfect driver rating of 150 and out-dueling Johnny Sauter in a green-white-checkered restart to earn his first career NCWTS victory and bring sponsor Bass Pro Shops and RCR’s famed black No. 3 to Victory Lane.

In 2010, Dillon also raced this chassis, built in-house by the Danny Stockman-led Bass Pro Shops team, at New Hampshire International Raceway, finishing fifth after starting fourth, at Darlington Raceway, finishing fifth after starting ninth, at Nashville Superspeedway, finishing second after starting second, at Gateway International Raceway, finishing seventh after starting sixth, at Texas Motor Speedway in June, finishing third after starting on the pole, and at Martinsville Speedway, finishing 16th after starting ninth. The Bass Pro Shops team boasts an average starting position of 4.6 and an average finish of 5.6 with this chassis.

Phoenix Recap … Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet team finished fifth at Phoenix International Raceway after starting second. Dillon ran in the top three for much of the race, but fell to 10th as changing track conditions affected the handling of his Silverado. Stockman & Co. were able to make adjustments during the race that allowed Dillon to finish fifth.

Dillon at Darlington … Last August, Dillon started ninth and finished fifth in NCWTS competition at Darlington, his first, and only, appearance at the track “too tough to tame.”

Getting Loopy in Darlington … Dillon has posted some impressive loop data statistics so far this season:

- First in the category of average running position with a 5.461 average

- First in the category of average starting position with a 1.5 average

- Second in the category of driver rating (first among fulltime series competitors), with a driver rating of 100.1, a formula combining wins, finishes, top-15 finishes, average running position while on the lead lap, average speed under green, fastest lap, led most laps, lead-lap finish

- First in the category of laps in top 15 (246 laps run in the top-15/ 97.2 percent of the time)

- Fifth in the category of fastest drivers early in a run (first 25 percent of laps run since a pit stop)

- Fourth in the category of fastest drivers late in a run (last 25 percent of laps run since a pit stop)

- Fourth in the category of fastest on restarts (speed of first two laps run under green)

Up and Comers … Dillon and his brother, fulltime ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards driver Ty Dillon, are featured as future stars in motor sports in this week’s ESPN the Magazine.

Meet Austin … Dillon will join teammate Joey Coulter and the rest of the NCWTS starting field in an autograph session at the track on race day from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m.

Austin Dillon (Photo Credit: Jason Smith / Getty Images for NASCAR)

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTES:

What’s Darlington Like?

“It’s a challenging track, for sure. It’s fun. You drive up high right next to the wall, so if you make any type of a mistake you pretty much end up right in the wall. It’s even more challenging since they repaved it. It’s a tough track, but I love it.”

What advice do you give to rookie drivers?

“Run every lap. I can give my opinions to first year truck series drivers, such as my teammate, Joey Coulter, but when it comes down to it, the best way to learn is to actually race and experience different situations for yourself. I definitely feel more prepared this year heading into every track that I’ve been able to run a lot of laps on. For the tracks where I had problems and didn’t get to run as many laps, I will be leaning on others just as Joey does. Having prior experience at a track definitely helps, but it’s cool that other drivers can come talk to me this year.”

Below are RCR’s driver and crew chief picks for Super Bowl XLV:

Joey Coulter, driver of the No. 22 RCR Chevrolet: Green Bay Packers

Harold Holly, crew chief of the No. 22 RCR Chevrolet: Green Bay Packers

ARCA Racing Series

Gere Kennon, crew chief of the No. 31 RCR Chevrolet: Green Bay Packers

Ty Dillon, driver of the No. 41 RCR Chevrolet: Green Bay Packers

Scott Naset, crew chief of the No. 41 RCR Chevrolet: Green Bay Packers

“Being from Wisconsin, I am definitely pulling for the Packers,” said Menard. “I think it’s going to be a pretty good game this year – a close one and not a blow out. But, I do think the Pack is going to get the win.”

Sprint Cup crew chiefs Labbe and Martin chose the Steelers as this year’s victors. “Why?” asked Labbe. “Because, I’m a Yankee from Maine!” Martin, a huge Tennessee Titans fan, selected the Steelers in hopes that they bring the title home to both the Titans’ and Steelers’ conference – the AFC.

Harvick, a San Francisco 49ers fan, will be in attendance for this year’s Super Bowl and will cheer on the Packers because “they are on a hot-winning streak and I think they can get the job done.”

RCR teams begin their trek to Daytona International Speedway in the middle of next week for the opening of the 2011 NASCAR and ARCA seasons. Ty Dillon and George, Jr. will compete in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 on Saturday, February 12 before Bowyer, Burton and Harvick hit the track later that evening in the no-holds barred Budweiser Shootout event.

Austin Dillon and Coulter will kick off the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season on Friday, February 18 at the ‘World Center of Racing’ prior to Bowyer, Burton, Harvick and Menard taking the reigns of their RCR entries in the series’ most prestigious event – the Daytona 500.

About Richard Childress Racing 2011

Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race Notes:

RCR’s NCWTS History … In 157 NCWTS starts, RCR has earned 22 wins, 66 top-five finishes, 101 top-10 finishes and 22 poles, along with the inaugural series championship in 1995 with Mike Skinner. The organization has an average starting position of 10.4 and an average finish position of 9.8.

RCR History at Homestead … RCR has four starts at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but this Friday’s race will mark the organization’s first trip to the 1.5-mile speedway since reviving the truck series program full time this year. RCR’s last start at Homestead came in 1999 with Jay Sauter, who led three laps but finished 21st after mid-race engine problems. Sauter has a total of three RCR NCWTS starts at Homestead to his credit, posting the organization’s best finish, third, in 1998, and finishing 19th in 1997. Mike Skinner finished 20th for RCR at Homestead in 1996.

No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Silverado

Race Notes and Quotes

This Week’s Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet at Homestead-Miami Speedway… Austin Dillon will pilot chassis No. 006 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Camping World Truck Series stable in this weekend’s Homestead 200. This chassis was built in-house by the Bass Pro Shops team this season and is a proven contender in NCWTS competition, as Dillon won with this Chevrolet at Las Vegas Motor Speedway from the pole position in September.

In addition to Vegas, this chassis has been used in competition on two additional occasions, in its maiden voyage at Chicagoland Speedway in August, where Dillon finished ninth after starting second, and at Texas Motor Speedway in early November, where Dillon started sixth but finished a disappointing 25th after a cut tire just 42 laps into the 147-lap race created a challenging night for the Bass Pro Shops team.

First Timer … This weekend marks Dillon’s first NCWTS attempt at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but his stat record on similarly sized tracks this year has been impressive, as he ranks sixth among all drivers in the category of points earned on superspeedways. In 20 career superspeedway starts, Dillon has one win, six top-fives, 14 top-10s and five pole awards, and has led 194 laps in seven races.

Breaking Records … Dillon has two wins this season (Iowa and Las Vegas) and is the first rookie since Carl Edwards in 2003 to post multiple NCWTS wins as a rookie. He earned a record sixth pole award last weekend at Phoenix International Raceway, extending the record for most pole awards by a rookie in NCWTS history. The sixth pole allowed him to surpass Kyle Busch as the overall series leader in the category of pole awards for this season.

Averages … Dillon has an average starting position of 5.792, and an average finish position of 10.875 for the season.

Raybestos Rookie Contender … Dillon is currently the leading candidate for the 2010 Raybestos Rookie of the Year award and has earned Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors in 16 out of 24 races, leading his nearest rookie challenger by 55 points heading into the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

For the Crew … Following Friday night’s NCWTS race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the driver of the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet will celebrate his rookie season by treating his entire team and their significant others to a trip to the Florida Keys for a vacation that will include relaxation, team bonding and deep sea fishing prior to arrival back in Miami for Monday evening’s NCWTS banquet.

All About Points … With one race remaining in the 2010 NCWTS, Dillon is fifth in the championship point standings, 93 markers in arrears of Matt Crafton in fourth.

Friday Morning Warm up … On Friday morning, Dillon, along with fellow NCWTS and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers, will “warm up” for the race weekend with a celebrity TRAXXAS RC Boat race hosted by Kyle Busch at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The event will include heat races and a main event, and Dillon’s boat will be decaled to look just like a TRACKER boat you can buy at your local Bass Pro Shops.

You’ve never been to Homestead. Do you have any hesitations leading into the race?

“Not really. I think anytime you go to a new place, it takes up some of the practice time trying to learn the track, but I am confident we will be fine. RCR’s speedway program has been very good this year, so I think we will be fine.”

You’re bringing Chassis No. 006 to Homestead…

“I’m confident in the truck that the guys chose to bring to Homestead this weekend, and I’m thankful for all of their hard work. This is the same truck we won at Las Vegas with, and I love the way it handles. This truck can really turn down into the corners. We beat it up pretty bad at Texas, but the guys in the Cup fab shop pulled an all-nighter to get it fixed just so that we could bring it to this race at Homestead, and my Bass Pro Shops crew has been working really hard on it.”

TRUCK OWNER RICHARD CHILDRESS QUOTES:

What do you think has been the key to Austin’s early success?

“He has been around this sport since he was a little kid. He grew up watching Dale Earnhardt and what all the other drivers have done. To accomplish all that he has in this sport at a young age, with really not that much racing experience, I am really proud of him.”

What are your thoughts on your return to the Truck Series this season?

“I am really excited for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. I think having Austin in the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet has been really good for the series. You wouldn’t believe how many people have called asking RCR to build trucks for them or how they could get involved. I hope from a NASCAR standpoint it has added a little fire back into the series.”

Why did you choose the NCWTS for Austin?

“I felt like the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series was a lot better series for a young rookie to jump into. You have some great veteran drivers. I knew Austin would have the opportunity to learn from drivers like Ron Hornaday Jr., Mike Skinner and Todd Bodine. I think Austin has been very fortunate that several of the drivers have taken him under their wing to help him out.”

No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Silverado

Race Notes and Quotes

This Week’s Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet at Phoenix International Raceway … Austin Dillon will pilot chassis No. 004 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Camping World Truck Series stable in this weekend’s NASCAR 150. Dillon has raced this chassis, built in-house by the Danny Stockman-led Bass Pro Shops team, on two previous occasions, finishing a season-worst 35th at Charlotte Motor Speedway following an early race crash resulting from loose lugnuts on the No. 3 Chevrolet. He also drove this Silverado to a sixth-place finish at Kansas Speedway on May 2.

First Timer … This weekend marks Dillon’s first NCWTS attempt at Phoenix. He did race in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at the track last year, finishing 15th after starting 17th.

Breaking Records … Dillon has two wins this season (Iowa and Las Vegas) and is the first rookie since Carl Edwards in 2003 to post multiple NCWTS wins as a rookie. He also has five pole awards, setting the record for most pole awards by a rookie in NCWTS history. He has a sixth-place average start, and an average finish position of 11.2 for the season.

Raybestos Rookie Contender … Dillon is currently the leading candidate for the 2010 Raybestos Rookie of the Year award and has earned Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors in 15 out of 23 races.

Hunting Season … Following Friday night’s NCWTS race at Texas, the driver of the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet traveled to a small town just outside of Childress, Texas, for a deer hunt before traveling to the Phoenix area for this weekend’s race.

All About Points … With two races remaining in the 2010 NCWTS, Dillon is fifth in the championship point standings, 84 markers in arrears of Matt Crafton in fourth.

Support Ty Dillon … Dillon’s younger brother, Ty Dillon, will race in Saturday’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Phoenix, driving the No. 31 Golden Gate Meat Company Chevrolet for Golden Gate Racing. The race is on Saturday at 6 p.m. Mountain Standard Time.

The Price is Right … On Monday, November 15th, tune in to the popular CBS show, The Price is Right. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star Clint Bowyer and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie Austin Dillon are part of a special NASCAR-themed episode. Bowyer and Dillon will present two NASCAR-themed showcases, featuring a trip North Carolina to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, a trip to Miami to see the season-ending races in all three National Series at the end of November and a Chevy Impala LS.

Can you compare Phoenix to any other track on the schedule?

“No, Phoenix is a unique animal. It’s very different from any of the other tracks I’ve been to before. I don’t exactly know what to expect. I think it will be extremely challenging. I haven’t raced there in a truck yet, but I raced the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Phoenix last year, so I do have a few laps of experience.”

What makes Phoenix so difficult?

“The track is difficult because every corner is different. Turns one and two are completely different from three and four, so you have to give up a little bit setup-wise in order to make sure the truck is decent through the entire track. The truck has to be very neutral at Phoenix. Also, it’s important not to overdrive the corners.”

No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Silverado

Race Notes and Quotes

This Week’s Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet at Texas Motor Speedway … Austin Dillon will pilot chassis No. 006 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Camping World Truck Series stable in this weekend’s WinStar World Casino 350k. This chassis was built in-house by the Bass Pro Shops team this season and is a proven contender in NCWTS competition, as Dillon won with this Chevrolet at Las Vegas Motor Speedway from the pole position in September. In addition to Vegas, this chassis has been used in competition on one additional occasion, in its maiden voyage at Chicagoland Speedway in August, where Dillon finished ninth after starting second.

Where it All Started … Arguably, a majority of Dillon’s success this season began with the spring NCWTS race at Texas, where the rookie driver began a streak of three consecutive pole awards and earned a third-place finish, which was a season-high at the time. Since that race, Dillon has earned five pole awards, two wins, seven top fives and 13 top 10s.

The Youngest … Dillon is the youngest pole award winner in the history of Texas Motor Speedway (20 years, one month, eight days).

He has a sixth-place average start, and an average finish position of 10.4 for the season.

Raybestos Rookie Contender … Dillon is currently the leading candidate for the 2010 Raybestos Rookie of the Year award and has earned Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors in 15 out of 22 races.

Meet Austin … Dillon will meet race fans at the Chevrolet Display at Texas Motor Speedway at 1 p.m. on Friday.

Hunting Season … Following Friday night’s NCWTS race at Texas, the driver of the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet is traveling to a small town just outside of Childress, Texas, for a deer hunt.

All About Points … With three races remaining in the 2010 NCWTS, Dillon is fifth in the championship point standings, just seven markers in arrears of Matt Crafton in fourth.

Austin Dillon (Photo Credit: Jason Smith / Getty Images for NASCAR)

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTES:

Texas is one of the few tracks the Truck Series travels to twice. Does having experience there help?

“It definitely helps to have experience at the track. I really like Texas, and I think the first race here was really a turning point for our team. It’s when we really started gelling together. We had a really fast truck there in April, and I was able to earn my first pole award and finish third. We’re bringing an even better truck to Texas this time around -the same truck I ran at Vegas when we won, so I think we have a good chance at improving on our April finish.”

What are your expectations for the rest of the season?

“I feel like we can use these last three races to be really strong and gain some points back. We’ve slipped to fifth, and I would really like to make sure we stay in the top five. I plan to really go after them the next three weeks, and my goal is top-five finishes. Definitely at Phoenix and Texas I know we can do that. Since I have never been to Homestead, I don’t really know what to expect, but our mile-and-a-half program has been really solid this year, so I am really excited about it.”

Danny Stockman, Crew Chief of the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet

Race Notes & Quotes

You’ve had a lot of success at Texas in the past…

“I’ve been a part of winning six races at Texas -four consecutive wins with Brendan Gaughan in 2002 and 2003 and two consecutive wins with Ron Hornaday in 2008. And, Austin was very fast here in April, earning his first pole award and finishing third. The key to success there is to keep the truck tight enough in the race, so that the driver can race around traffic.

Texas is a very fast track that has a lot of grip but the weather will be really, really hot so the truck has to be tight enough to run side-by-side. There is a fine line between tight and too tight, so we will explore that line during practice. We want the truck to be tight enough for Austin to hold it wide open as long as he can.”

Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Nationwide Series Race Notes:

RCR’s NASCAR Nationwide Series History at Texas … In 35 previous NNS appearances at Texas Motor Speedway, Richard Childress Racing has acquired four wins, 11 top-five finishes, 21 top-10s and one pole. The organization has led 564 laps at Texas and has completed 90.2 percent of the laps attempted at the 1.5-mile oval (6,099 of 6,760).

Averages … RCR boasts an average start position of 12.7 and an average finish position of 12.9 among all NNS races the organization has contested at Texas.

Harvick’s Track … Each of RCR’s four NNS wins at Texas came with driver Kevin Harvick, who is currently just one win shy of the track’s all-time race win record in NNS competition. Other RCR drivers have fared well in the NNS at Texas as well. In the organization’s last fall appearance at the track in November 2009, Casey Mears posted a second-place finish.

RCR teams have posted top-10 finishes in 10 of the last 13 NNS attempts at Texas. In addition to Mears’ runner-up finish last fall, Jeff Burton finished eighth in April 2009 and Clint Bowyer finished sixth in April 2008.

Clint Bowyer

No. 21 Zaxby’s Chevrolet Impala

Race Notes and Quotes

This Week’s Zaxby’s Chevrolet at Texas … Clint Bowyer will drive Chassis No. 080 in Saturday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge. Bowyer was running second in this Chevrolet at Dover International Speedway in May when contact with another competitor with just three laps remaining relegated the team to a disappointing 25th-place finish. In addition, John Wes Townley drove this Chevrolet to a career-best 15th-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in February.

Bowyer’s Texas Stats … In nine previous NNS starts at Texas, Bowyer has earned two top-five finishes and five top-10s. His best Texas finish to date of third came in April 2008.

In the Spring … In the Spring NNS race at Texas, Bowyer had a competitive Zaxby’s Chevrolet, and ran in the top five for much of the race, but finished a less-than-desired 35th after a mid-race incident when a right-front tire went down as a result of fender damage from a side-by-side battle for fourth position.

Seven Years Ago … Clint Bowyer made his career-first NNS start at Texas Motor Speedway on April 3, 2004. Since that time, the Emporia, Kans., native has acquired eight wins, 62 top-five finishes, 108 top-10s, eight pole awards and the 2008 NNS Driver’s Championship among 168 series starts.

Stockman Calling the Shots … Danny Stockman will serve as crew chief for the No. 21 Zaxby’s Chevrolet this weekend. Stockman, the fulltime crew chief for Raybestos rookie of the year contender Austin Dillon in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, made his debut as Bowyer’s crew chief in the NNS at Bristol in August. Several members of the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet will join Stockman in Richmond this weekend. This season, Stockman, a 28-year-old California native, has earned race wins in both the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (Iowa, Las Vegas) and ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards (Kansas, Rockingham), with drivers Austin Dillon and Ty Dillon.

Zaxby’s Last Hoorah … Saturday’s race marks the last NNS race for Zaxby’s and the RCR NNS program this season. RCR and KHI recently announced a partnership in which KHI will field NNS entries in 2011 with RCR providing chassis, engine and technical support. Since its inception in 2000, RCR’s Nationwide Series program has earned 56 victories and five championships; two overall championships (2001, 2006 with Kevin Harvick), two owners-only titles (2003 with Harvick and Johnny Sauter; 2007 with Jeff Burton and Scott Wimmer), and one driver-only title (2008 with Clint Bowyer).

Double Duty … Following Saturday’s NNS race at Texas, Bowyer will compete in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas in the No. 33 Cheerios / Hamburger Helper Chevrolet.

Clint Bowyer - Photo Credit: Getty Images

CLINT BOWYER QUOTES:

What are your thoughts on Texas Motor Speedway?

“Speed is more important than handling at Texas. The Nationwide cars carry a lot of speed entering the corners and the key is finding the groove where your car handles the best. That can be tricky during the Nationwide race because Texas is the type of track where additional grooves develop as the weekend progresses. On Sunday, there are more options because the track has been raced on all weekend. I really like Texas. It’s fast, you have got to get the car rolling the centers. You can get too loose there, but I’d definitely prefer a loose car there over a tight one. I’ve finished as high as third but I haven’t won there yet so it would be neat to get that opportunity this weekend. Those cowboy hats they give you in victory lane look pretty neat.”

Dillon remains fourth in the NCWTS championship point standings with four races remaining this season and leads the Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings.

The No. 3 team’s race weekend began with a pair of practice sessions on Friday, where the Danny Stockman-led team worked on the truck’s set up while Dillon focused on finding the best line around the tight, flat short track. They were 15th at the conclusion of first practice, and were able to find more speed to round out final practice fifth on the charts.

Dillon earned a ninth-place starting berth for Saturday afternoon’s 200-lap race during qualifying on Friday evening and settled into ninth position at the beginning of the race before take advantage of a lap-41 caution flag to pit for four tires, fuel and chassis adjustments.

The nature of the team’s pit road adjustments, which included removing a spring rubber from the right rear, created a lengthy pit stop and, as a result, the team restarted 25th when green-flag racing resumed on lap 47.

Austin Dillon (Photo Credit: Jason Smith / Getty Images for NASCAR)

Dillon reported that the black No. 3 was tight during the next run, but was able to slowly gain positions on the race track. He was running 15th when Stockman directed him down pit road during a lap-92 caution for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment.

Restarting the race 18th with 102 laps remaining, Dillon worked his way up to 12th by lap 110, and was running eighth following a lap-159 caution.

However, shortly after the restart, he was battling side-by-side for position when a slowing truck on the high side of the race track squeezed down. With no where to go as the field went three wide, contact with other trucks caused damage to the splitter on the No. 3 Chevrolet. The team evaluated the damage during the ensuing caution period, determining that there were no tire rub issues as a result of the newly-crinkled fenders, so green-flag racing resumed with no pit stop needed.

Unfortunately, the challenges were not yet over for Dillon and the No. 3 team, as the caution flag was once again displayed on lap 183 after the 20-year-old High Point University student spun in turns one and two while running 11th.

Dillon made a trip down pit road for four tires and a chassis adjustment, restarting 21st on lap 187, and was able to survive two additional caution flags to finish 16th.

Ron Hornaday earned his career-first Martinsville Speedway victory, while Kyle Busch finished second. Todd Bodine, Jason White and Aric Almirola rounded out the top-five finishers.

The next NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race is a 250 miler at Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday, October 30. The 22nd points-paying race of 2010 will be televised live on SPEED at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time and broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and Sirius XM Satellite Radio at 4:45 p.m. EDT.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:

“It’s an okay day. We just got behind early and struggled passing trucks. It’s just tough to pass here and you need the track position. I think we had a way better truck than where we finished. We got pinched up there when the 17 [Timothy Peters] had the flat. Just kind of a long day, but we’ll go to Talladega and have some fun. We’ll be fine in the points I think and just keep on digging.”

Richard Childress Racing in the ARCA Racing Series … Richard Childress Racing concludes its first full season in the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards at Rockingham Speedway this weekend. While Tim George Jr. has been behind the wheel of the No. 31 RCR Development Chevrolet Impala for the duration of the season, the 41-year-old organization will field two entries in the ARCA Series for the second consecutive week, as Ty Dillon, the youngest grandson of car owner Richard Childress, will make his third ARCA start this weekend, just one week after posting his first-career series win at Kansas Speedway.

Additionally, the win was RCR’s first ever win in the ARCA Racing Series. Others who have raced for RCR in the ARCA Racing Series over the years include Ty’s older brother, Austin Dillon, and RCR NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kevin Harvick.

Ty Dillon

No. 41 Richard Childress Racing Development Chevrolet Impala

Race Notes and Quotes

This Week’s RCR Chevrolet at Rockingham … Ty Dillon will pilot chassis No. 166 from the Richard Childress Racing ARCA Racing Series stable in this weekend’s American 200. This is the same Chevrolet Dillon drove to victory lane at Kansas Speedway last weekend, and to a second-place finish after starting on the pole in his ARCA debut in July. In addition, Ty’s brother, Austin Dillon, drove this car to a second-place finish in an ARCA race at Iowa Speedway in 2009.

Last Time Around … Last week, Dillon earned his first-career win in the ARCA Racing Series in just his second series start and first stock car start on a speedway. The 18-year-old high school senior made a pass for the lead with just six laps remaining in Thursday’s Kansas Lottery 150 at Kansas Speedway, and then distanced himself from his competitors, winning by more than two seconds.

All Told … Dillon has had a very successful 2010 race season. In addition to his victory at Kansas Speedway last Thursday, he earned the pole award and finished second at his ARCA debut at Iowa Speedway in July, and earned his first-career win in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Division at Gresham Motorsports Park in August.

Celebrate Good Times … Following his win in Thursday’s Kansas Lottery 150, Dillon traveled with his team to North Carolina so that he could attend high school. Dillon is a senior at Forsyth Country Day School in Lewisville, N.C.

In Honor of RC … The No. 41 on the side of Dillon’s Karl Chevrolet Chevrolet this weekend was specially chosen by the 18-year-old driver because his grandfather raced the number at Bowman Grey Stadium in Winston Salem, N.C., during his years as a driver. Richard Childress’ original No. 41 is currently on display at the RCR Museum in Welcome, N.C.

The Crew … With full support from Richard Childress Racing, Ty has a talented group surrounding him in ARCA. Much of Austin Dillon’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series crew assisted him at Kansas and will assist him in Rockingham, including crew chief Danny Stockman, team engineer Ryan Sparks, and spotter Andy Houston. This is in addition to Ty’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series East team, which includes crew chief Cale Gale.

ARCA Racing Series fans may remember Gale for his years as an up-and-coming race car driver within the 57-year-old stock car sanction. Gale competed in the ARCA Racing Series in 2006 and 2007, earning one win at Gateway International Raceway, one pole award, four top-five and six top-10 finishes in six series starts. The Mobile, Ala., native, who also has starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, replaced his steering wheel for a wrench and works closely with Ty Dillon on a regular basis.

Meet Ty Dillon … Dillon will participate in an ARCA Racing Series Championship celebration as part of the City of Rockingham’s ThunderFest on Thursday, Oct. 14 from 6:15 – 8 p.m. at Harrington Square (111 E. Washington Street) in downtown Rockingham. The event includes an autograph session and Q&A session with ARCA drivers.

TY DILLON QUOTES:

Have you been to Rockingham?

“Actually, I’ve never raced at Rockingham before. I have been to Little Rock to test a bunch, but never the big track. I’m excited to apply some of the things I have learned this season, and I feel like our team has a lot of momentum going into the race after winning at Kansas.”

Do ARCA cars compare to the race cars you are familiar with?

“The dirt cars are similar in that the motors are similar, so you get some of the same sensations. The asphalt experience, I suppose, will be helpful. Really though, the ARCA cars are very different than anything else I have raced at this point in my career, so I am approaching it as an entirely new deal.”

No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet

Race Notes and Quotes

This Week’s Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet at Las Vegas Motor Speedway … Austin Dillon will pilot chassis No. 006 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Camping World Truck Series stable in this weekend’s Smith’s Food and Drug Stores 350. This chassis was built in-house by the Bass Pro Shops team this season and made its maiden voyage at Chicagoland Speedway in August, where Dillon finished ninth after starting second.

Raybestos Rookie Contender … Dillon is currently the leading candidate for the 2010 Raybestos Rookie of the Year award and has earned Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors in 13 out of 19 races.

Vegas Roots … Crew chief Danny Stockman’s first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series job was as a mechanic with Las Vegas-based Orleans racing at the age of 19. Now 28, the rookie crew chief has celebrated two NCWTS championships as a truck chief for Ron Hornaday and has enjoyed one win and four pole awards with Dillon this season. But Stockman is not the only Bass Pro Shops team member with Las Vegas connections, crew member Robert Stamiska also previously worked for Orleans Racing.

Experienced Spotter … Although Dillon has not previously competed at Las Vegas, his spotter, veteran NASCAR driver Andy Houston, has five Las Vegas Motor Speedway NCWTS races to his credit from 1998-2004, with a best finish of sixth in the 2003 edition of the race.

Shop Till You Drop … As part of a race advance, Dillon will be at event title sponsor Smith’s Food and Drug Store in Las Vegas on Thursday at 12 Noon for a press conference and shopping spree with a lucky race fan.

All About Points … Dillon is sixth in the NCWTS Driver Point Standings, just five points in arrears of Matt Crafton in fifth, and 423 points in arrears of point leader Todd Bodine.

What are your thoughts on Las Vegas Motor Speedway?

“I think having experience at other intermediate-sized tracks will help me at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. I’m very fortunate to go to Vegas with a very experienced group. Houston [Andy, team spotter] has raced there a bunch in the truck series and my crew chief, Danny Stockman, used to live in Vegas, so he has been to the track a lot and knows what we need to be fast. We’re bringing one of our fastest trucks, so I think we will fare well.”

CREW CHIEF DANNY STOCKMAN QUOTES

What’s the key to winning at Las Vegas Motor Speedway?

“The track has progressive banking, and a really rough bump getting into turn one. Whoever gets through that bump best will succeed at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The track is just like any other mile-and-a-half, fast and fun. The key to those types of tracks is learning the bumps. The track will be hot and slippery during practice then cool down during the race.”

No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet

Race Notes and Quotes

This Week’s Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet at New Hampshire Motor Speedway … Austin Dillon will pilot chassis No. 005 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Camping World Truck Series stable in this weekend’s TheRaceDayRaffleSeries.com 175. This is the same chassis that Dillon drove to Victory Lane at Iowa Speedway in July, leading 187 of 200 laps, earning a perfect driver rating of 150 and out-dueling Johnny Sauter in a green-white-checkered restart to earn his first career NCWTS victory and bring sponsor Bass Pro Shops and RCR’s famed black No. 3 to Victory Lane.

Dillon also raced this chassis, built in-house by the Danny Stockman-led Bass Pro Shops team, at Darlington, finishing fifth after starting ninth, at Nashville Superspeedway, finishing second after starting second, at Gateway International Raceway, finishing seventh after starting sixth, and at Texas Motor Speedway in June, finishing third after starting on the pole. The No. 3 team boasts an average starting position of 3.8 and an average finish of 3.6 with this chassis.

Prior Loudon Experience … Dillon has four previous NASCAR-sanctioned starts at Loudon, the most recent of which was in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in June, where he started eighth but finished 25th after a challenging pit stop and a series of NASCAR-issued penalties. Dillon has also made one Loudon start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and two in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East division. His NCWTS attempt, in September 2009, produced a 15th-place finish after starting fourth. In two NKNPS-E races, both in 2008, Dillon has two top-five finishes and one pole award.

Eldora World 100 … During the NCWTS off week, Dillon traveled to Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio with Team Dillon Racing to compete in the World 100 Dirt Late Model race. Dillon set fast time out of 134 cars, earning him a starting spot for the prestigious race, and finished 13th.

Aiming for No. 5 … In the NCWTS’ last outing, Dillon earned his fourth pole award of the season, tying one of the series’ oldest freshman records for most poles by a rookie competitor. The 20-year-old has started on the pole at Texas, Michigan, Iowa and Kentucky. A pole at Loudon would make him the youngest NCWTS pole winner in the track’s history.

Watch Little Brother Ty … Austin’s younger brother, Ty Dillon, will compete in Friday’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at Loudon. The high school senior recently earned his first series win at Gresham Motorsports Park on Saturday, August 28.

Back to School … Dillon started his sophomore year of course work at High Point University two weeks ago. The 20-year-old student is seeking a Communications degree and is taking courses in Communications, English, Philosophy and American Politics this semester.

Will experience play to your advantage this weekend?

“I’ve been able to race at Loudon more than, virtually, any other track on the schedule in my short racing history, with the exception of maybe Iowa. Between starts in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR Nationwide Series, I have a good history at New Hampshire, with lots of success in the East Series and a top-five qualifying run in the truck. Our finishes weren’t as good in the truck and the Nationwide car, but those were both matters of circumstance and not performance. I feel like I have a good grasp on how to get around the track at New Hampshire so I feel good about this weekend.”

What are your goals for the rest of the season?

“One of the goals for the rest of the season is to win another race, and I think our team is very capable of that. Danny Stockman and the guys on the Bass Pro Shops team have built extremely fast trucks this season, and I think a few more pole awards is definitely possible.”
