CHARLOTTE, NC (February 9, 2012) – With under a month to go before the green flag drops on the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, America Israel Racing (AIR) has unveiled its unique paint scheme for the No. 49 Robinson-Blakeney Racing Toyota that will be driven by JJ Yeley at the Daytona 500.

Inspired by AIR’s mission of promoting the importance of America supporting Israel, the design prominently displays both the United States and Israel flags as well as a striking image of a bald eagle holding both nations’ flags in its claws and an olive branch in its beak on the hood.

“We wanted to ensure our car design was not only eye-catching, but properly conveyed the mission and values of America Israel Racing,” said AIR co-founder Rich Shirey. “The eagle in particular contains a great deal of symbolism – it has a determined look on its face, because we are determined to voice the importance of America’s support of Israel.

“However, we wanted to be sure to include the olive branch, because it is a universal sign of peace and above all else, America Israel Racing’s message is a peaceful one.”

American Israel Racing has teamed with Robinson-Blakeney Racing of Monroe, North Carolina, to place a car in the 2012 Daytona 500 field on February 26 at Daytona International Speedway in Florida. AIR hopes to continue its partnership with Robinson-Blakeney Racing beyond Daytona, and with the support of like-minded individuals AIR will spread its message of American Israeli support by placing a car in the NASCAR Sprint Cup field for the entire 2012 season. Anyone wishing to support America Israel Racing and its cause can make a donation online at AmericaIsraelRacing.com.

About America Israel Racing

America Israel Racing was formed to raise awareness of the importance of America supporting Israel, the only true democracy in the Middle East, as it stands against its enemies. The North Carolina-based race team, founded in 2011, is in the process of fundraising to field a car in the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starting with the Daytona 500. Through strategic partnerships and joint ventures with other organizations, America Israel Racing hopes to spread the message throughout the world that the United States supports Israel.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – As Grand Marshals, co-stars from the new Three Stooges movie Jane Lynch and Kate Upton will deliver the four most famous words in motorsports – “Drivers, start your engines.”

Sean Hayes, Chris Diamantopoulos, and Will Sasso — starring as Larry, Moe & Curly – in the all new The Three Stooges movie from Twentieth Century Fox, will start the action by delivering the green flag at the Daytona 500, NASCAR’s most prestigious race, on Sunday, February 26th (FOX, 1 p.m. ET).

“We look forward to Jane and Kate’s participation in the pre-race ceremonies, adding to the star power of NASCAR’s biggest and richest race of the year,” Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said. “Also, the thousands of race fans in attendance and the millions more watching on FOX Sports are eagerly waiting to experience ‘Stoogemania,’ when The Three Stooges deliver the green flag”

In The Three Stooges, which hits theaters everywhere April 13, 2012, newborns Larry, Moe and Curly are left on the doorstep of an orphanage run by nuns. The boys grow up finger-poking, nyuk-nyuk-nyuking and woo-woo-wooing their way to uncharted levels of knuckleheaded misadventure. Out to save their childhood home, only The Three Stooges could become embroiled in an oddball murder plot…while stumbling into starring in a phenomenally successful TV reality show.

Earl Benjamin, President and CEO of C3 Entertainment, Inc. (The Three Stooges brand owner) and Executive Producer of the new movie, said “The Three Stooges as a part of the Daytona 500 gives both comedy and racing fans a truly unique blend of two of America’s most enduring cultural icons – The greatest comedy team of all time and the aptly named The Great American Race. What could be better?”

Jane Lynch is best known for her role as the sarcastic villain on FOX’s hit show Glee, for which she has earned an Emmy and Golden Globe. Kate Upton, who was raised in Melbourne, Fla., is known for her appearance in the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, where she was named Rookie of the Year.

Sean Hayes (Larry) garnered acclaim as the sarcastic and hilarious Jack McFarland on NBC’s long-running sitcom, Will & Grace. Will Sasso (Curly) starred for five seasons (1997-2002) on FOX-TV’s hit sketch comedy series MADtv, Chris Diamantopoulos (Moe) recently portrayed Frank Sinatra in the Emmy-nominated mini-series The Kennedys.

Cena was invited to participate in this year’s big race by 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series runner-up Carl Edwards on WWE’s Monday Night Raw®. Edwards got out of his official No. 99 Fastenal Ford and told Cena, “NASCAR asked me to come to Monday Night Raw and personally invite you to drop the green flag and officially start the Daytona 500 on February 26.” An appreciative John Cena enthusiastically accepted with an emphatic “Yes!”

“John Cena is the greatest Superstar in WWE today,” Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said. “We look forward to seeing him on the flag stand waving the green flag to start ‘The Great American Race’ and kick off the new NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.”

Cena, who made his WWE debut in 2002, is a ten-time World Champion. He can be seen each week on the hit cable series Monday Night Raw on USA Network. The avid NASCAR fan will headline WrestleMania against The Rock® at Sun Life Stadium in Miami on Sunday, April 1, 2012.

Cena’s success has led to starring roles in various Hollywood films. He recently starred in The Reunion from WWE Studios and alongside Patricia Clarkson and Danny Glover in the family drama Legendary. His first theatrical film was the 2006 action-thriller The Marine from Twentieth Century Fox. Always a fan favorite with kids, Cena played himself in Nickelodeon’s popular teen comedies Fred: The Movie and Fred 2: Night of the Living Fred. A popular talk show guest, Cena has appeared on The Today Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Talk and many more.

Cena, like many NASCAR drivers, has a long standing relationship with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He is on pace to grant his 300th wish, making him the first celebrity wish granter ever to reach that lofty goal. The Make-A-Wish Foundation recently dedicated a room to WWE at the foundation’s headquarters in Phoenix, AZ, in honor of Cena’s unwavering dedication to children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Past Honorary Starters for the Daytona 500 include NASCAR Hall of Famers Bobby Allison and Richard Petty, actor Ashton Kutcher, comedian Whoopi Goldberg and singer Mariah Carey.

Tickets for Speedweeks 2012 events, including the 54th annual Daytona 500, are available online at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.comor by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.

(February 6, 2012) – Entering their ninth season with Richard Childress Racing driver Paul Menard, PEAK® Performance announced today the No. 27 Chevrolet will sport an exciting and electric look during 2012 Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway.

Expanding on their hood sponsorship of the Menards Chevrolet, PEAK has redesigned the No. 27 Impala to be completely adorned with the signature “PEAK blue” and “Menards yellow” as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series kicks off the season with the 54th running of the “Great American Race” on February 26. The special paint scheme will also be showcased in the Budweiser Shootout on February 18 and the Duel 150 qualifying race on February 23.

“PEAK has been a great partner to work with over the years,” commented Menard. “This year, to kick off the season at Daytona with a little extra punch, PEAK decided to run a vastly different paint scheme on the No. 27 Chevrolet. There is always a special energy going into Daytona and I know the team and I are all excited to get there and do everything we can to put the No. 27 PEAK car into Victory Lane.”

PEAK first partnered with the 2011 Brickyard 400 champion in 2004, but their relationship with Menards dates back to the home improvement chain’s IndyCar days. To celebrate the occasion and generate excitement with fans, PEAK will feature exclusive online Menard content in the days leading into the Daytona 500. The blog can be followed at www.peakauto.com/blog. Fans can also follow the march to Daytona at @peakauto on Twitter and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/peakauto.

Menard had an outstanding 2011 season, capturing his first-career Sprint Cup Series win with an emotional trip to Victory Lane at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and finishing 17th in the driver championship standings, his highest career finish. Menard enters his sixth year of NSCS competition in 2012 and will make his second career appearance in the annual Budweiser Shootout at Daytona.

(January 27, 2012) – JD Motorsports has been a whir and blur of activity the last few weeks at their South Carolina shop.

Johnny Davis, team owner, has hired on some key personnel to build on the achievements from the team’s 2011 season. Mike Wallace, entering his fourth season driving for the team, has been a solid competitor during his tenure. The new addition to the team is veteran crew chief Newt Moore.

Davis has 411 NASCAR Nationwide Series starts as an owner. Wallace has 416 NNS starts as a driver. Moore has 408 combined NASCAR starts atop a pit box. That makes for a good combination of experience between the three. They, and their refurbished team, are all hoping their merged know-how leads them to more success in the 2012 season.

“I have to tell you, this team has been working hard as can be to get ready for the season opener at Daytona and the rest of the year,” Davis said. “We added Newt (Moore) as our crew chief and that’s been going pretty good. We also added two crew members of the team that won the Daytona 500 last year and I’ve been pretty happy with their work, too.

“You combine all of that with Mike’s talent at the big tracks, and we’re all feeling pretty good for the start of the season. And, just like other teams, we are looking to add some partners to complete our season to be even more successful. We have a room on the car; trust me.

“We’re a single-car team with no Sprint Cup team affiliation. So, when we have a good day like we did many times last year, we’re that much happier and prouder of our efforts. We finished 13th in points last year, and that was over some teams with a much bigger budget and affiliation ties to big teams. There’s a sense of optimism in the shop right now that is stronger than ever…I like it.”

Wallace, who has four NNS wins to his credit, earned one of those wins at Daytona in July 2004. In addition to making his 400th NNS start last year, he won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway in October. So, the ability to win for Wallace never went away.

“No, the desire and ability to win has never faded after 22 years in Nationwide competition,” Wallace said. “We come to the track each week to compete to the best of our ability and represent ourselves and marketing partners the best way possible.

“Johnny has made some changes in the off-season everyone has been very pleased with since it happened. I have to give our owner a lot of credit – he manages to give us what we need to be competitive every week.”

Wallace was very competitive in the Talladega NNS race last spring. He worked his way to the front and was leading on the second green/white/checkers restart for the win. However, after the white flag flew, Wallace was pushed from behind, spun and hit sideways causing the car to do a single barrel roll before driving it to an 18th-place finish.

“I still wish we had that one back again,” Wallace said. “But, that’s the nature of the beast in restrictor-plate racing. I know we can do what did last year by running up front and leading laps at both Daytona and Talladega. I just have a funny feeling this JD Motorsports team is on to something for the Daytona race and we’re doing all we can to make it a great race; which would lead to a great season.

“Somebody has to win the race at Daytona – why not us? That’s the way I see it for starting off our 2012 season.”

WELCOME, N.C. (January 25, 2012) – General Mills and The Kroger Co. announced today it will partner with Richard Childress Racing and veteran driver Elliott Sadler on the No. 33 Chevrolet for the 54th annual Daytona 500 on February 26, 2012 at Daytona International Speedway.

“It’s great to be back in the Daytona 500. I’ve had a lot of success in this race in the past and want to thank General Mills, Kroger and Richard Childress for this opportunity,” said Elliott Sadler. “When we started putting this program together the first thing that came to mind is how strong RCR’s plate program has always been. We’re going to go out and have a legitimate chance to win the race. Speedweeks can’t get here soon enough!”

General Mills, entering its fourth year of partnership with the Welcome, N.C.-based organization, is teaming up with The Kroger Co. for a special paint scheme celebrating the great brands from both organizations. The special red, white and blue paint scheme adorning Sadler’s Chevrolet for “The Great American Race” will feature the Kroger Co. Family of Stores, Fred Meyer Jewelers and several General Mills brands. The Minneapolis, Minn.-based General Mills also sponsors RCR’s No. 31 Wheaties Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with driver Jeff Burton.

“General Mills is excited to partner with the Kroger Company and Richard Childress Racing to put the No. 33 car back on the track for this year’s Daytona 500. Kroger and General Mills have been strong partners over the years and I am pleased that we are continuing to advance the partnership in a whole new way,” says Pat Simmons, VP General Mills Motorsports.

“Kroger is excited to partner with General Mills and Richard Childress Racing at the Great American Race, the Daytona 500. We think this is a strong partnership that shows off the great brands and great values that our companies offer to shoppers throughout the US, said Evan Anthony, Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Advertising at Kroger. Add RCR and Elliott to the mix and you’ve got a recipe for success. We’re looking forward to a great race.”

Leading the effort for the No. 33 team will be veteran crew chief Gil Martin, RCR’s NASCAR Nationwide Series program team manager. Martin has been at RCR since 2000 and has served as crew chief for Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Casey Mears, Kerry Earnhardt and Robby Gordon. He is one of a select few crew chiefs to win races in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series.

“We’re looking forward to having Elliott, Kroger and General Mills team up on the No. 33 Chevy with Gil serving as crew chief for this year’s Daytona 500,” said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “General Mills has been a terrific partner over the years, through both its Wheaties and Cheerios brands, so it’s great to expand their overall 2012 program by having a car in the Great American Race. We’re also excited to have Kroger on board given all their support and strong activation around our sport.”

Childress, a two-time Daytona 500 champion car owner, will use owner points accumulated during the 2011 Sprint Cup Series season to field the No. 33 Chevrolet entry. RCR’s No. 33 team finished 13th in the final 2011 owner point standings on the power of one win, four top-five and 16 top-10 finishes.

Austin Dillon, 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion, will drive the iconic No. 3 Chevrolet during the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series season with American Ethanol serving as the primary sponsor for six races as well as one race in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2012. Dillon’s No. 3 American Ethanol Chevrolet paint scheme was unveiled at the event.

“I’m proud to carry the American Ethanol colors in NASCAR,” said Dillon. “Growth Energy is committed to clean air, and as an avid outdoorsman I truly appreciate their desire to protect our nation’s air and water for future generations. I commend the work they do and I am looking forward to representing American Ethanol, Growth Energy and the National Corn Growers Association.”

In addition to American Ethanol’s partnership with Dillon, the organization will serve as an associate sponsor with the entire RCR family of drivers. Team owner Richard Childress as well as RCR’s Sprint Cup Series veterans Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton and Paul Menard will also serve as spokesmen for the cause.

Kenny Wallace, who notched 11 top-ten finishes last year, will drive the No. 09 Toyota Camry in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for RAB Racing. American Ethanol will partner with Wallace for the Sprint Cup Series Daytona 500, as well as five races in the Nationwide Series.

“I’m honored to represent American Ethanol. I not only talk about American Ethanol, I truly believe in it. I’ve been to the farms, I’ve met the families, I’ve been to the plants, and I’ve been in the hallways of the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C., in support of it. I believe it is our job to cut down on dependency of foreign oil, and American Ethanol is a major part of that,” Wallace said.

“American Ethanol is in this for the long haul. Through our partnerships with Austin Dillon and Kenny Wallace, we are telling NASCAR and its fans that American Ethanol is committed to the sport,” said Tom Buis, CEO of Growth Energy, which led the effort to create American Ethanol. “These drivers are ideal ambassadors for the American Ethanol team and will help tell the story of how American-made ethanol creates jobs, cleans our air and fosters energy independence.”

“American Ethanol is getting a lot of positive attention because it’s a good fit for NASCAR’s green initiative, and because of the increased horsepower on the track,” said NCGA President Garry Niemeyer. “Our partnership with RCR and RAB Racing will assure continued success in letting the American public know that if ethanol can stand the stress these drivers put it through, it’s good for the family car, too.”

The American Ethanol partnership was established with the goal of increasing awareness of ethanol’s renewable, clean-burning, high-octane abilities as a fuel. One initiative included the release last September of a white paper detailing NASCAR’s use of E15 (15 percent ethanol, 85 percent gasoline) in more than a million miles of racing, qualifying and practice laps – proving that E15 can withstand the test of America’s toughest proving ground.

Ethanol is the most commercially-viable alternative that America currently has to offset the economic impact of foreign petroleum. Corn ethanol reduces emissions by 59 percent, and cellulosic ethanol is at least 86 percent cleaner. And by strengthening America’s energy independence, ethanol helps create American jobs; studies have shown that for every $1 sent overseas for oil, $1.55 leaves the U.S. economy.

Growth Energy, a coalition of American ethanol supporters, filed the petition to the federal government, called the Green Jobs Waiver, to increase the allowable blend of ethanol in fuel from 10 percent to 15 percent, or E15. In 2010, NASCAR embraced the desire for greener, American-job-producing fuels when it announced its decision to move to Sunoco Green E15 for NASCAR’s three national series.

Representing a wide array of ethanol supporters, from farmers to bio-engineering firms, American Ethanol was established by Growth Energy in partnership with the National Corn Growers Association and others. By establishing a marketing partnership with NASCAR starting with the 2011 racing season, the same year that NASCAR switched its fuel to Sunoco Green E15, American Ethanol aims to educate and inform the broader American public about the benefits of U.S.-made ethanol.

CHARLOTTE, NC (January 18, 2012) – North Carolina-based America Israel Racing (AIR) is partnering with a well-respected NASCAR veteran to help bring its message of Israeli support to the track on racing’s grandest stage.

AIR will team with newly formed Robinson-Blakeney Racing to place a car in the 2012 Daytona 500 field on February 26 at Daytona International Speedway in Florida. Inspired by recent political sentiment towards the nation of Israel, America Israel Racing hopes to raise awareness of the importance of the United States supporting its Middle Eastern ally through NASCAR.

“Working with Jay Robinson and the team at Robinson-Blakeney Racing is a tremendous opportunity for America Israel Racing,” said a member of the AIR team. “Jay has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the sport and we are very excited to work with him over the coming weeks to get a car ready to run at Daytona, and hopefully beyond.”

America Israel Racing hopes to continue its partnership with Robinson-Blakeney Racing beyond Daytona, as AIR would like to spread its message of American Israeli support by placing a car in the NASCAR Sprint Cup field for the entire 2012 season. The AIR team hopes all like-minded individuals will take notice and help generate support for their cause. Anyone wishing to support America Israel Racing and its cause can make a donation online atAmericaIsraelRacing.com.

Additional details regarding the America Israel Racing partnership with Robinson-Blakeney Racing, including car number, paint scheme and driver information, will be released in the coming weeks.

JIMMIE JOHNSON

KRISTI KING: We’ll start off our media availability today with Jimmie Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet. Just talk a little bit about the day and a half you’ve had of testing here so far at Daytona.

JIMMIE JOHNSON: Yeah, we’ve been really just focused on our single-car runs. We brought down a really fast race car, and I’m proud of all of HMS and engine shop included, 48 guys. They really brought down a nice race car. We haven’t really showed our hand, and we’re right there with the top cars in single-car speed. I’m proud of the work that’s gone on over the off-season with our plate program, and our plate stuff has been real strong, especially from a qualifying standpoint through the last few plate races last year. We’re still maintaining pretty well, and excited about the speed that the car has.

KRISTI KING: Also, too, looking at the trophy here right beside you, what would it mean to you to win the Daytona 500 here next month?

JIMMIE JOHNSON: It’s such a special race, and I feel very fortunate to have won that race. At that point I didn’t have a championship, and it’s one of two races that you get a title when you win this race, this one and the Brickyard. It can make a career, and it was a huge, huge thing for myself when I won it in 2006.

Audio: 2012 NSCS Preseason Thunder at Daytona Press Conference with Driver Jimmie Johnson

Q. Jimmie, can you talk a little bit about the drivers’ meeting that NASCAR just held? What did they tell you and what do you expect out of the pack drafting this afternoon?

JIMMIE JOHNSON: I missed it. I was over taking my drug test and missed it. It ran a little longer. There was a long line of guys waiting to use the restroom. But what I did hear is that they want to get everybody into a big draft and collect data without the pushing, just to see how stable the cars are, what the cars do. So they’re just trying to encourage everybody to get out there in a big group and use the old style of drafting to see what the cars do.
I’m not sure we’ll participate in it. We don’t want to take any chances with this car. It’s way too fast. We don’t need it on a hook.

Q. I wanted to ask you a little bit about having Kasey Kahne a part of the team, and since you had known for so long that he was going to join the team, did you guys kind of have a bonding session or get to know each other coming in, and just how do you see him fitting in?

JIMMIE JOHNSON: I’ve been real fortunate that Kasey and I have been friends really since we met, since he came into the series and was a part of the Cup Series. He and I have always had a great relationship and friendship. It’s really been the same since he’s come on board and even through when the announcement was made until now, we’re great friends.
The relationship that has grown, and I’ve spent some more time getting accustomed to Kenny. I didn’t know Kenny other than just some casual passings in the garage area. And I’ve really enjoyed the time I’ve spent with him and picking his brain and understanding what he’s about. Two big assets that Hendrick Motorsports picked up, and I look forward to what they can do.

Q. Obviously you knew Chad wasn’t going to be here, but did you almost still expect him to be here when you got here, and have you heard from him at all, and what’s it like to be at a test when he’s not around?

JIMMIE JOHNSON: He’s been texting and emailing, so there still is that communication taking place. But we’ve got a very confident race team, and everybody is following the test plan, and we’re going through the motions. Truthfully a lot of the work for this test was done at the shop getting prepared, and now we’re just following a test plan. It’s worked out well for Chad to take some time for himself, and I’m really happy that he has decided to do this. As we all know, he doesn’t give himself much personal time, and I’ve been on a similar trip to the one he’s on now and know how special it was to Chandy and I. I can’t wait to hear the stories when he gets back and what he goes through. It’s been a nice calm test so far.

Q. With all these rule changes for the 500, plus the introduction of fuel injection, being at a team like Hendrick, which always seems to be a step ahead of everybody else, what kind of comfort is that to you?

JIMMIE JOHNSON: I have to believe that all the teams and engine shops feel pretty comfortable with all the testing. In the time to prepare for this race and what we’re doing now, we’ve worked through a lot of the gremlins, so I think NASCAR has handled this really well, and we’ve had a lot of time to develop the systems and get things going.
I don’t have any fear, and I don’t really sense any throughout the garage area. But we’re still learning the rules packages as we go, and with a day and a half left to go, I’m not sure NASCAR has settled in on the package that they want just yet, and we’ll keep fine tuning.

From an overall aero package and plate package, there’s still probably some adjusting that would take place I would guess. I don’t really know, but from a reliability standpoint of the EFI, I don’t see any issues for anybody.

Q. Can you talk a little bit about the psyche, if you will, entering this season because it’s, as you well know, obviously very different than it has been the last five years?

JIMMIE JOHNSON: Yeah, I mean, I’ve spent a lot of time through the off-season thinking about the way I’m involved with the race team, the responsibilities I have, the — just the way I’ve gone about work for the last five years, and it’s hard to argue with the last five years and what had happened. Last year was the sixth year and we didn’t get the results that we wanted. But I really felt like we were competitive in a lot of areas. Chad and I made some mistakes in the Chase and took ourselves out of it.

It’s been a very good off-season for me to internalize some things and to really evaluate what goes on from my standpoint and my involvement with the team and how good of a teammate and team member I can be for the 48 car, and I’m making changes. I feel like even though I tried to over the five-year run not stall out and tried to continue to evolve and challenge myself and recreate myself. It’s hard to do it. You have a roadmap that’s working and it’s hard to get too far from it. This winter has been really good for me to really dive down and understand the areas where I feel like I can do a better job and be a better member of the 48 team.

So I know I’m stronger and better today than I was leaving Homestead, so I’m looking forward to 2012.

Q. I know this isn’t an official race weekend and the trailers aren’t parked on points, but is this still one of those times when you walk out of your transporters in the middle of a pack, and you’re like, damn, I’m not the champion anymore? Has that hit you?

JIMMIE JOHNSON: Yeah, I’ve made more mistakes walking to the wrong end of the garage. I’ve been programmed for so many years to walk to a certain stall that it’s been tough, and even driving into the pits the first three or four times, I didn’t know where to pull in. It’s not going to end. That’s a good thing, too, that reminder every week that I had it really good over there as the champion in that first spot.

Q. Competition is coming from NASCAR up on the podium after you. What would the perfect Daytona 500 look like to you, number of laps where you could do tandem drafting or how much people may lay back because they don’t want to blow water out so they’re going to save and maybe it’ll create people going to the back? What would the perfect Daytona 500 mix be like to you?

JIMMIE JOHNSON: I’m not sure of the mix but I know what I want the results to be. I want the 48 car in victory lane. There’s a fine balance as a competitor with the tandem racing does give the driver some control to race. But at the same point, the fans aren’t into that style of racing. That’s what we need to pay attention to.

I think we’re all learning. These three days are going to be very useful for teams, for NASCAR to find the right package and right balance. So I’m just not getting attached to anything yet and just waiting to get through these three days and see where we’re at then.

Q. The same question I asked Jeff Gordon about, he’s got a charity now as a sponsor, but did you think when you first got into racing that you would be giving back as much as you do both in time and money to charity?

JIMMIE JOHNSON: No, I didn’t. I mean, I spent a lot of time being involved with different charities and supporting them and donating my time and funds when I could. But until Kyle and Pattie Petty sat me down and really explained what I could do and what the NASCAR fan base and my fan base would get behind, also my sponsors — at some point I guess I would have figured it out, but I’m so grateful that they sat me down, and my wife, sat us both down and said this is what you’re doing, which is great, but this could happen. It’s been far more money donated, impacting more lives.

I never thought that our foundation would be on a race car at a racetrack, and it’s been there for a few years now at the California races. It’s far more than I ever expected.

Q. Just to kind of touch on something earlier that was brought up, for a guy who’s won five championships, you’ve won the Daytona 500, going forward, what motivates Jimmie Johnson? Is it something as simple as winning the next race, or is there kind of a NASCAR bucket list that you still have something left unchecked?

JIMMIE JOHNSON: You know, there are some events that fit into that and some stats and some goals. But really the thing that motivates me is the fire hasn’t gone out in me to compete, and as long as that fire is burning, who I am as a person, I’m going to give 100 percent. I know when I do a good job, what my responsibilities are. That’s the thing that keeps motivating me and that’s what I’m reflecting on from last year is at times we did a good job, and when we put up 100 percent we got the results that we wanted. But some other time things just didn’t work out as they should and weren’t handled correctly from my side and the way I went about things. So that’s my motivation for this coming season is to not make those mistakes and to do the best job that I can and be the best member of this 48 team that I can be.

Q. This question is about there’s definitely pressure during the last few races of the season; can you talk about pressure when you actually start the season, especially the back and forth that you have to do between the East Coast and West Coast in the first few races?

JIMMIE JOHNSON: Yeah, the start of the season with the 500 as our first event, we walk into a pressure cooker right away. Leaving there with the limited testing that we have, you go to the first couple fast racetracks, downforce tracks, wondering if everything you worked on in the shop is going to pay off or not. So there is a lot of pressure for the first, I don’t know, four or five races just to find out where you’re at. And then from there you can address some problems and try to correct any issues that you have or sit there on top of the pile and be real happy with the work that took place over the off-season.

Coming out of the gate, there is a lot of pressure for the first few weeks.

KRISTI KING: Jimmie, thank you for your time, and thanks to everyone who joined us on the teleconference today.
