(MOORESVILLE, NC) February 9, 2011 – MacDonald Motorsports has hired Donnie Neuenberger to drive the No. 81 Eagle Convenience Stores Dodge Challenger in ten races for the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series Season. The first race for Donnie and the No. 81 team will be February 19th at Daytona in the DRIVE4COPD 300. Donnie is slated to run ten total races for MacDonald Motorsports with the possible addition of more.

Donnie Neuenberger is an 18 year veteran racing in the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World truck series. His record includes top 10 and top 20 finishes in both series. Donnie is also a frequent talent on Comcast SportsNet, weekly AM / FM radio show updates, and his own radio show “Behind the Wheel with Donnie Neuenberger”.

MacDonald Motorsports would also like to announce the hiring of Bobby Burrell as the crew chief for the No. 81 Dodge Challenger. Bobby has a long history in NASCAR spanning back to 1995 when he started with the WOOD Brothers fresh off getting his engineering degree from Syracuse University. Since then Bobby could be found working at a multitude of teams including DEI, Yates, Ganassi, Robby Gordon, Haas CNC, Kevin Harvick Inc., Mayfield Motorsports, and Key Motorsports. His duties have been everything from tire changing, team engineer, car chief, and his current role, crew chief.

In 2001, Bobby was pinned against the pit wall by Ward Burton’s car in a pit road accident. After the accident he had to regain his strength, balance, and hand-eye coordination. This accident resulted in a NASCAR rule change requiring all pit crew members to wear helmets. Although many still remember him for that incident, Bobby would like to be remembered for his successes. Bobby won the 1999 NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship with Dale Earnhardt Jr. as the driver and is also a two-time winner of the NASCAR Pit Crew Competition. He would like to continue that success this year for MacDonald Motorsports in his first ever stint as a crew chief.

Eagle Convenience Stores joins Donnie and MacDonald Motorsports as primary sponsor for the ten committed races. Eagle Convenience Stores are an Alabama based convenience store chain located from Opelika to Talladega Superspeedway, mainly in the central Alabama area. The mom and pop stores are owned and operated by Darryl Saucier.

In 2010, MacDonald Motorsports went the entire season with Michael McDowell behind the wheel of the No. 81 Dodge. The team registered 10 top-20 finishes with a best finish of 10th at Watkins Glen in August. At Road America the team qualified 5th and ran in the top-five all day long before motor problems just a few laps from the finish. At season’s end, MacDonald Motorsports was 31st in the Owner’s Standings, just one spot out of being locked in to the first five races of 2011.

About MacDonald Motorsports

The MacDonald family name has been in the racing circles since owner, Randy MacDonald, started his own driving career in the 1980’s. The provisions made by Randy’s father, Merril “Doc” MacDonald, and mother Pat helped Randy start racing professionally and establish his own company. Randy’s father Doc helped him create business relationships and carry out other important functions of the team until finishing his own race in March of 2007. Despite his death, Doc’s impact on the team will not end, as MacDonald Motorsports continues on in his honor and memory.
