November 19, 2011

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

Welcome James Buescher - The No. 32 Dollar General team welcomes James Buescher to the seat of the Dollar General Chevrolet this weekend in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This will mark Buescher’s 11th NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start for Turner Motorsports in 2011. A title contender in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) competition, Buescher will be pulling double duty as he climbs behind the wheel of the Exide Chevrolet on Friday night.

Buescher at Homestead-Miami Speedway - Buescher will make his first NNS start at the 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend. However, the Texas native has made three NCWTS starts at the track claiming an average finishing position of 18.7.

Buescher 2011 NNS Stats – This season, Buescher has made 10 NNS starts for Turner Motorsports, primarily in the team’s No. 30 entry. In 2011, he has notched one top-five and three top-10 finishes to go along with an average starting position of 18.2 and an average finish of 15.9.

Down But Not Out – Buescher currently sits third in the NCWTS point standings, 28 points behind the leader. The young driver will do all he can to make up that ground on Friday night in the NCWTS season finale to try and claim his first series championship. In only his second full-time season, Buescher has put up some incredible statistics in 2011 including 10 top-fives, 19 top-10s, three pole awards and 264 laps led. In his 22 races this season, Buescher has finished outside the top-10 on only three occasions.

First Season Success for Turner Motorsports - In the team’s first full season of NNS competition, Turner Motorsports-prepared entries have notched three wins, 21 top-five and 62 top-10 finishes. Both of Turner Motorsports’ championship-contending drivers have been a mainstay in the driver point standings top-10 with Justin Allgaier in third and Jason Leffler in sixth.

This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Buescher will pilot TMS-309 in the Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This car was last on track at the second Chicagoland Speedway event in September.

“I’m really excited for the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the Dollar General Chevy this weekend in the season finale at Homestead. While I’ve worked mostly with the No. 30 team on the Nationwide side of things this year, it will be a great experience to go over and work with Trent [Owens, crew chief] and the No. 32 guys this weekend. I really want to thank Dollar General and Rick Dreiling for the chance I have to drive the DG Chevy this weekend. I’m hopeful we can bring home a solid finish for them.”

Miami 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway

No. 11 Shore Lodge Team Notes of Interest

· Brian Scott and the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota team go into this weekend’s finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on a mission. After getting taken out of last week’s race at Phoenix International Raceway on the first lap, Scott lost a spot in the driver point standings and was prevented from contending for a win. The team will look to turn that around during this weekend’s 300-mile race in Homestead, Fla.

· The No. 11 Shore Lodge Team went into last weekend’s Wypall 200 with high expectations after performing so well in race trim during the practice sessions on Thursday. Scott qualified in the 24th place but was hit from behind on the first lap of the event and sent spinning into the inside retaining wall. The car was damaged beyond repair forcing the team to retire from the race without having completed a full lap of competition.

· The DNF in Phoenix dropped Scott a position in the driver point standings. He is now sitting in ninth place in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver point standings, a mere six points behind Michael Annett in eighth place.

· This weekend’s race in Miami will be only Scott’s second Nationwide Series start at the 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway. Scott made his lone Nationwide Series start at the track one year ago when he scored an 18th-place finish after starting from the 30th position.

· In addition to the one start in Nationwide Series competition at Miami, Scott has three starts in Camping World Truck Series competition at Miami. In three Truck Series starts at the track, Scott has finished no worse than 15th place and has a best finish of second place. Scott finished second during the Truck Series finale in 2008 after starting from the 15th position. Scott’s average Miami finish in Truck Series competition is ninth place.

· Chassis #122 is the car Scott will race during the Nationwide Series finale this weekend. Chassis #122 has been a successful chassis for the No. 11 Shore Lodge Team. This car most recently was used by the team a month ago during the Dollar General 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway where Scott scored a fifth-place finish. The car was also raced to successful results during the spring race at Charlotte (eighth-place finish) and Texas in April (10th-place finish). The backup car for the race will be Chassis #128. This car has been raced as a primary a handful of times in 2011 at tracks that includes Dover, Atlanta and Michigan.

What happened last week at Phoenix?

“Well, we had a fast car even though our qualifying effort didn’t show it. I got really loose making my run so that kind of put us behind a little bit and then, we go out on the first lap and get hit from behind and that ended our day. So we are going into this weekend’s race looking to get back that momentum this team has been building and use that going into the off season.”

Talk about this week’s race in Miami:

“I actually really like racing in Miami. It’s one of those tracks that I have just taken to and really seems to suit my driving style. Obviously I had some great runs in the Camping World Truck Series competition and that really gives me a lot of confidence going there this weekend with this No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Team. We’ve been working so well here this last half of the season and it just really pumps me up as a driver. I’m kind of bummed it’s the last race and we don’t get to go out and do what we love for a couple of months but it’s been a great year and with everything we have built this year I am just so excited to get back at it in Daytona in February.”

For the past few seasons, Dollar General has sponsored Nationwide Series cars for owners Todd Braun and Steve Turner. The company announced last week that it was leaving Turner Motorsports after this season.

Instead, the company reportedly will be the primary sponsor for Joey Logano and his No. 20 Toyota from Joe Gibbs Racing in 10 to 12 Sprint Cup races. It’s expected that Home Depot, the team’s primary sponsor since 1999, will sponsor the car in the other 24 to 26 Cup races.

Dollar General also is expected to be the primary sponsor for Nationwide Series driver Brian Scott and his No. 11 Toyota, also from Joe Gibbs Racing. The company also will be the primary sponsor for several Nationwide races for Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 18 and No. 20 cars with Kyle Busch and Logano.

The company is expected to confirm the changes during this weekend’s Nationwide-Sprint Cup double-header at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Nationwide cars have a 200-lap, 300-mile race on Friday night, and the Cup cars have a 334-lap, 500-mile race on Saturday night.

Fisher’s career has been plagued by a lack of funds. She stepped out of the car this year to concentrate on her family – her daughter is a month old – and trying to secure sponsorships. On the eve of her first victory, sponsor Dollar General announced it was leaving.

SPARTA, KY (October 2, 2011) - Tears of joy were abundant in the 67 pit stall as Sarah Fisher Racing (SFR) driver Ed Carpenter edged championship front-runner Dario Franchitti by a nose on a sun-splashed Sunday afternoon at Kentucky Speedway to claim his, as well as SFR’s, first IZOD IndyCar® Series victory.

“It felt way better than I ever thought it was going to feel,” said an elated Ed Carpenter. “Dario raced me hard and clean. I knew we had the better car but in the second or third stint.”

Carpenter rolled off the grid from the fourth starting position on Sunday, in front of a sea of family and friends, and remained in the top-five throughout most of the race. “It was a weird race because my visor was falling off in one of the stints and we had all sorts of stuff going on. However, I wasn’t going to let a visor coming off stop me from winning the race. I drove 15 or 20 laps with one hand holding on to my helmet til our next pit stop.”

The 30-year old husband and father of two was thankful he had one Honda overtake assist (push-to-pass) left on the final lap. He and Franchitti battled for nearly 21 laps as the Kentucky Indy 300 came to a close, separated by no more than two-tenths of a second. “I’m just so proud to be a part of this team and this organization. I can’t thank Andy and Sarah enough, and I’m especially thankful to my wife for supporting me all these years to get to this point; it’s taken a long time to get our first win, but that’s fine with me. It’s just an awesome day for Dollar General, Angie’s List, Fuzzy’s Vodka and everyone.”

The victory was also the first for the Sarah Fisher Racing organization, and after missing the previous three races with the birth of her and husband Andy O’Gara’s daughter (Zoey Marie), Sarah was back to witness history. “Just to see Ed drive his tail off is just so amazing,” said a teary-eyed Fisher. “We figured out that next year, Dollar General is not coming back, so maybe they’ll change their mind now. But, you know certainly it was just a great weekend. The guys all worked their tails off, and I haven’t been to the shop in three weeks. My baby girl is obviously good luck…I’m just so happy to be here.”

Carpenter’s 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series season continues Sunday, October 16th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The race will be telecast live in High Definition (HD) at 3 p.m. (EST) on ABC. Additional coverage will be available on IMS Radio, XM Satellite Radio Channel 94 “IndyCar Racing,” Sirius Channel 212, along with broadcast coverage summaries available at www.indycar.com and www.sarahfisherracing.com.

About Ed Carpenter:

The 2011 IZOD IndyCar ® Series season marks Ed Carpenter’s eighth year in the series after making his debut at Chicagoland Speedway in 2003.Growing up with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in his backyard with Laura and step-father Tony George as parents, Carpenter was no stranger to racing. Carpenter began racing at eight years old and balanced racing with education throughout much of his career. Earning a Bachelors of Science degree in marketing from Butler University in 2003, Carpenter graduated from Butler just weeks before he won the Freedom 100 Indy Pro Series race at the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With a college degree under his belt, Carpenter is now able to focus on several other activities when he’s not racing. Away from the track, Carpenter follows professional football and is an Indianapolis Colts season ticket holder and an enthusiastic Butler Bulldogs supporter. The 29-year old is also an avid cyclist, water skier and enjoys working out. Before he became a regular in the IZOD IndyCar Series, Carpenter was a short track racer in the United States Auto Club (USAC) midget, sprint and Silver Crown Series. 2011 marks his first season with Sarah Fisher Racing (SFR) and Dollar General. Carpenter resides in Indianapolis with his wife, Heather, his daughter Makenna, son Ryder, and their two dogs Bentley (Rottweiler) and Roscoe (Chihuahua).

(June 2, 2011)- As the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) prepares to celebrate its 400th race Saturday at Kansas Speedway, the individual accomplishments of Kyle Busch, Rick Ren and Eric Phillips over the first 399 races rank among the most celebrated in series history.

Kyle Busch – Owner / Driver

NCWTS Career Highlights:

· Tied with Mike Skinner and Jack Sprague for second most wins in NCWTS history with 28

· Winning driver/owner in closest margin of victory in NCWTS history (.002-seconds over Aric Almirola in the Mountain Dew 250 at Talladega Superspeedway on October 30, 2010)

· Youngest driver (20 years, 18 days) in NCWTS history to win a race (Quaker Steak & Lube 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on 5/20/05)

· 119.6 career driver rating entering the 2011 season is the highest accumulated by a NCWTS driver since the stat was introduced in 2005

· Average career finish of 7.1 ranks first among active drivers with 10 or more career starts

· Has won 30.7% of the NCWTS races he has entered and finished first or second in 49.4%

· In 2010 KBM became the first team to win an owners’ championship in its inaugural season since the NCWTS originated in 1995

Most Memorable Experience in the NCWTS:

“I’ve had a lot of memorable moments in the truck series — winning a championship in my first year as an owner, my first-ever truck series win at Charlotte, the fantastic finish last year at Talladega and getting the sweep started in the trucks at Bristol all quickly come to mind – it’s been a great series to be a part of as both a driver and now an owner. But, if I have to pick one moment that stands out above the rest, the most memorable would have to be my first win as an owner last April at Nashville Superspeedway.

It was extremely rewarding to see the hard work of everyone involved at KBM come to fruition. Having the first win come at the hometown track of Dollar General in their first race as a primary sponsor of our Toyota Tundra was icing on the cake. That win seemed to be the spark that helped propel us to more wins and an owners’ championship in our first season. It also was instrumental in developing our relationship with Dollar General into something bigger this season.”

Rick Ren – General Manager

NCWTS Career Highlights:

· Winningest crew chief in NCWTS history with 27 wins

· Has gone to victory lane an additional 13 times as an executive at KBM — making him a part of one in every 10 wins in NCWTS history.

· Has won two NCWTS championships as a crew chief and one as a General Manager

· Won a NCWTS record five consecutive wins with driver Ron Hornaday Jr. in 2009

· Has collected NCWTS wins with five different drivers (Hornaday Jr., Johnny Benson Jr., Travis Kvapil, Rick Carelli and Andy Houston)

Most Memorable Experience in the NCWTS:

“I’ve had a great career in the truck series and have many memorable moments. To pick out one individual moment as my favorite — that’s a tall task. The championships were all great. Leading a rookie to his first win, winning at Dover the day I met my wife, the look on Kyle’s face last year at Nashville when he won for the first time as an owner — looking back, those were all pretty cool moments. Probably winning five consecutive races with Ron Hornaday Jr. in 2009 would have to be my biggest accomplishment. Not only was it a truck series record, it tied a 38-year old NASCAR record. The way things played out in each of those races in order to win five consecutive, you couldn’t write the script any better. The stars and the moon lined up pretty good.”

Eric Phillips – Crew Chief

NCWTS Career Highlights:

· Winningest active NCWTS crew chief with 23 career wins — which also ranks him third on all-time list

· Crew Chief for Toyota’s first-ever NASCAR touring series victory (Travis Kvapil at Michigan International Speedway on 7/31/04)

· Has collected NCWTS wins with five different drivers (Busch, Kvapil, Dennis Setzer, Clint Bowyer and Mike Skinner)

Most Memorable Experience in the NCWTS:

“Being the crew chief for Toyota’s first-ever NASCAR win is definitely my most memorable experience in the truck series. I still have the trophy at home and it brings back great memories.”

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

· Three is a Magic Number – Reed Sorenson and the Dollar General team posted their third consecutive top-five finish over the weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. With respective finishes of third, fourth and fifth in the past three races, Sorenson has quietly moved back toward the lead in the driver point standings and is only two points away from the top spot. In 13 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) races, Sorenson has notched five top-five and nine top-10 finishes with 83 laps led. He has an average start of 11.1 and an average finish of 9.6.

· Sorenson at Chicagoland Speedway - In four NNS starts at Chicagoland Speedway, Sorenson has three top-10 finishes with 30 laps led. In all four starts, Sorenson has finished inside the top-15 and completed all laps attempted. He has an average start of 18.8 and an average finish of 10.2. Sorenson has scored a top finish of eighth on two occasions, once in 2006 and again last season.

· Reading with Reed at Chicagoland – Wanting to do his part to aid in a key initiative to sponsor Dollar General, Sorenson will be reading to a group of children in the Kids Club Zone at Chicagoland Speedway at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Dollar General’s commitment to literacy is a very important aspect of the company’s culture. Co-founder, J. L. Turner, was functionally illiterate when he started the company.

· Turner Motorsports Teaming with STP - Turner Motorsports is very pleased to announce that they are joining forces with STP® this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, on a weekend in which the iconic brand is serving as title sponsor of the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race on Saturday and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday. The STP® logo, which has long been a presence in the sport, will be prominently featured on each of the team’s four entries in Saturday’s STP 300 – the No. 38 of Jason Leffler, the No. 32 of Reed Sorenson, the No. 31 of Justin Allgaier and the No. 30 to be driven by Mikey Kile.

Armored AutoGroup:

Armored AutoGroup Inc., headquartered in Danbury, Conn., is primarily comprised of the Armor All® and STP® brands. The current Armor All product line of protectants, wipes, tire and wheel care products, glass cleaners, leather care products and washes is designed to clean, shine and protect interior and exterior automobile surfaces. The STP product line of oil and fuel additives, functional fluids and automotive appearance products has a broad customer base ranging from professional racers to car enthusiasts and “Do-it-Yourselfers”.

· This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Sorenson will pilot TMS-118 in the STP 300 at Chicagoland Speedway. This car was the chassis of choice for teammate Mark Martin in his win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and his eighth-place finish at Auto Club Speedway.

Reed Sorenson

Sorenson on the night race at Chicagoland Speedway:

“I have really enjoyed racing at Chicagoland Speedway for some reason. It’s a little bit different than other mile-and-a-half tracks that we go to, but I think a night race there is going to be really exciting. I’ve had some pretty decent runs in the couple of starts I’ve had at Chicago, so I’m expecting nothing less this weekend. This Dollar General team has been running really well the past few weeks so I’m excited to see what we can do with this momentum. We’ve just been unloading fast cars and then making all the right adjustments during the practice sessions and race. Chicago is a great market for Dollar General and so I’d love to be able to give all their customers and fans something to cheer about by getting to victory lane.”

Sorenson on carrying the STP logo this weekend:

“We are very proud to have STP return to the Dollar General Chevy this weekend. We have carried STP in different spots on the No. 32 car during the first part of the season as they serve as one of the great vendor partners with Dollar General on our race car. It’s awesome to again be able to carry the iconic colors of STP, as well as have them serve as the race sponsor this weekend at Chicagoland.”

Superspeedway

LEBANON, Tenn. (April 23, 2011) – Friday’s Bully Hill Vineyards 200 was the “Same Old Song and Hat Dance” for Kyle Busch and his Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based sponsor Dollar General. After scoring the first-ever win for Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) in last year’s Nashville 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Nashville Superspeedway, the duo’s remix sounded very similar to their original performance. Busch once again dominated the field. Starting the 300-mile race from the pole and leading 140 of the 150 laps en route to his second truck series victory this season and third in five races for Kyle Busch Motorsports. Along the way, the 25-year old became just the 10th driver to lead 20,000 laps combined across the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series and NCWTS.

“We’re proud to bring home another Nashville victory for all the great folks at Dollar General,” said Busch. “It’s always great to win races. When you win at your sponsor’s hometown track with their CEO Rick Dreiling and his family in victory lane celebrating with us along with many executives and employees, it makes it extra special.”

<img src="http://www.catchfence.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/2011-Nashville-April-NCWTS-Victory-Lane-Kyle-BuschLRG-280x184.jpg" alt="Kyle Busch celebrates after winning both Nashville Superspeedway NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races in which he has started. Busch raises a Gibson guitar Friday in Nashville Superspeedway's Victory Lane. Photo Credit: Jason Smith/Getty Images for NASCAR

“The guys at Kyle Busch Motorsports did a phenomenal job on this Toyota Tundra. Our truck was really good; it had a great feel to it all night long. Triad Motors provided me with some great horsepower. We couldn’t do this without the help of our great sponsors. Flexco, Butler Seats, Gillette, Marquis Jets, Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oils and Marquis Jets. Camping World. This is a series I love to race and participate in. And last but not least, the fans.”

Ron Hornaday Jr. tried to steal the show from Busch late in the race. After a restart with eight laps remaining, the cagey veteran dove to the inside of Busch in Turn 3 and assumed the lead coming off of Turn 4. Shortly after Hornaday Jr. took the lead, a two-car accident in Turn 2 brought out the final caution of the race.

This time on the restart, Busch returned the favor getting to the inside of the veteran and regaining the lead before the field got back to the start-finish line. The defending race winner pulled away from the field over the final two laps to collect his third career Sam Bass-designed Gibson Les Paul guitar.

After collecting his first Keystone Light Pole Award this season, the Las Vegas native paced the field until he made his first pit stop of the night under green flag conditions on lap 54. The Dollar General crew put four fresh tires with an air pressure adjustment on the No. 18 Toyota, filled it with fuel and returned their owner/driver back to the track.

As pit stops cycled through, Busch reassumed the lead on lap 58 just before the first caution of the race occurred. When the race resumed, the No. 18 continued to pace the field. Busch communicated to his crew chief Eric Phillips that his Dollar General Toyota was a little tight in the center of and a little loose of the exit of both sets of turns off the 1.33-mile concrete oval.

Debris brought out the third caution of the race on lap 102. When pit road opened, Busch brought his Tundra down pit road for four fresh tires with an air pressure adjustment, and a full tank of fuel. The crew’s lightning quick pit stop allowed the No. 18 Dollar General Toyota to narrowly beat the No. 17 of Timothy Peters, who took two tires, to the scoring line and maintain the race lead.

Shortly after going back to green flag conditions, a two-car incident of Turn 2 sent Austin Dillon spinning, bringing out the fourth caution of the race. After the race restarted on lap 113, Busch once again left the field in his rear-view mirror. A three-car wreck off Turn 4 brought out the caution that set up the late-race showdown between Busch and Hornaday Jr.

Nelson Piquet Jr. finished second, followed by Peters, Hornaday Jr. and James Buescher. Rounding out the top 10 were Matt Crafton, Johnny Sauter, David Starr, Craig Goess and Parker Klingerman.

The race featured six cautions totaling 24 laps.

With the win, Kyle Busch Motorsports extended their lead in the NCWTS owners’ point standings to 39 points over the ThorSport Racing’s No. 13. The primary chassis for the race, KBM-4, has now been to victory lane six times in eight races. Busch won with the truck in its debut last May at Charlotte Motor Speedway and also drove it to victories last year at Chicagoland Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway. Kasey Kahne notched the truck’s fifth win at Darlington Raceway this April.

Kyle Busch will be back behind the wheel of KBM’s No. 18 Toyota Tundra when the NCWTS resumes action at Dover International Speedway on May 13.

This Week’s Silverado… The No. 31 Wolfpack Rentals Chevrolet Silverado team will bring chassis TMS-019 to the 1.33-mile concrete Nashville Superspeedway. TMS-0019 saw racing action last fall at Texas Motor Speedway where Buescher crossed the finish line in the sixth position.

Remembering Beau … This weekend at Nashville, Turner Motorsports’ three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series entries will carry decals honoring the life of former ARCA Series competitor and Turner Motorsports employee Beau Slocumb who lost his heroic battle with cancer last weekend. Slocumb made four ARCA starts in 2009, logging an impressive 7.0 starting average combined with a solid 11.2 average finish. The 26-year-old driver logged a pair of top-10 finishes over those four starts including a career-best fifth-place finish at Kansas Speedway. Slocumb began his career racing Legends cars and climbed the professional ladder through the late model ranks, earning 131 feature wins in Legends and late model competition, and eventually making his mark in the ARCA series. He is survived by his wife Jessica, parents Burke “Buster” and Jeanne, brothers Seth and Daniel and sister Maggie. Memorials can be made to the Ryan Newman Foundation, Hospice of Iredell County (N.C.) or Hospice of Central Georgia.

Got My First Real Six String… In hopes of bringing home the custom Gibson guitar trophy on Friday night, Buescher and his Turner Motorsports teammates will take a private tour of the Gibson Guitar Factory in Nashville on Thursday afternoon. The home of Gibson electric guitars, ‘Gibson USA’ was built in ‘Music City’ in 1974.

In their Backyard… Turner Motorsports’ partner Dollar General considers Nashville Superspeedway its home track as its headquarters resides in Goodlettsville, TN. Buescher, along with his Turner Motorsports teammates, will visit the retail giant on Thursday before heading to the track.

Come and See Me… Buescher will participate in NASCAR’s autograph session on Friday, April 22nd from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. CST. The autograph session will be held in the Nashville Superspeedway Expo area located outside of Gate 3.

Watch and Listen… The Bully Hill Vineyards 200 can be seen live on Friday, April 22nd on SPEED. Race coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m. EST. The event can also be heard live on MRN Radio as well as Sirius Satellite Radio, channel 128.

James Buescher on driving at Nashville Superspeedway

“I really enjoy racing in Nashville. Not only is the Nashville Superspeedway a great facility but the city is always buzzing. I really enjoy going downtown and listening to great live music and soaking up the sights. We are going to Dollar General Headquarters on Wednesday to meet and greet with their employees which will be a lot of fun. It is always great to meet the people that support our teams. They, along with the rest of our great partners, are the reason we get to do what we love so to go and say thanks is always fun.

“I am looking forward to this weekend. We had a great run with chassis TMS-019 last year at Texas [Motor Speedway] late in the season and we have worked hard in the off season to improve our fleet. We all have high expectations for Friday night.”

(Feb. 23, 2011) - A motivational letter that Kyle Busch received during the off season from Kyle Savoie (sa-VOY), a 12-year old fan, has inspired Busch to develop a program that will recognize children for experiences and achievements that had a positive effect on their lives.

The “Riding Shotgun With Kyle Busch Motorsports” Essay Contest will allow one Nashville child, age five to 12, to have a decal with their name and 2.5″ x 3.5″ photo above the passenger window of Busch’s No. 18 Dollar General Toyota for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Nashville Superspeedway on Friday, April 22. Additionally, the winner of the Nashville essay contest will receive a $100 gift card from Busch’s primary sponsor for the race Goodlettsville-Tenn. based Dollar General.

“The message behind Kyle Savoie’s letter was how dreams are important and to never give up on your dreams,” reflected Busch. “He even sent us his five dollar-allowance with the letter in an effort to help support our KBM truck team. He suggested that if other kids followed his lead, they could serve as the sponsor for a race. In return, he suggested that we would put their names and school pictures on the truck. I obviously don’t want kids to send us their allowances, but I loved the idea of recognizing kids for positive experiences and achievements by putting their name and picture on my truck! Too many stories in the news these days are about negative issues. This essay contest will be a great way to create a positive news story with the help of children in Nashville.”

To recognize Kyle Savoie for inspiring the contest, a decal with his name and picture adorned the area above the passenger window of the No. 18 Dollar General Toyota Tundra driven by Busch in the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 18.

Nashville is the first of 10 races throughout the 2011 season that an essay contest winner will follow in Savoie’s footsteps and “Ride Shotgun” with Kyle Busch Motorsports. The other races scheduled are Dover (May 13), Kansas (June 4), Kentucky (July 7), Michigan (Aug. 20), Bristol (Aug. 24), Chicagoland (Sep. 16), Talladega (Oct. 22), Texas (Nov. 4) and Homestead-Miami (Nov. 18).

The topic of the essay is to describe an experience and/or achievement that occurred in the last 12 months that has affected your life in a positive way using 150 words or less. The deadline to submit an essay for the Nashville race is April 8, 2011. Entries can be submitted via email to essay@kylebuschmotorsports.com or mailed in to:
