The truck will be carrying the SkillsUSA logo to help increase awareness of the organization and their mission. Bosch will also be on the truck this weekend; they are a partner of both SkillsUSA and Sellers.

“I really appreciate the opportunity to drive this weekend for Turn One Racing,” said Sellers. “Stacy (Compton, Team Owner) and Doug (Wolcott, Crew Chief) have put a solid program together with this No. 66 truck and I’m really looking forward to getting in and putting down another good finish for the team.”

This will be the first time racing at Pocono Raceway for Sellers, a track that he has always wanted to compete on. “Pocono is a very unique track and I’ve always wanted to run there, but haven’t had the opportunity till now,” said Sellers. Although this is his first time at the 2.5-mile of Pocono Raceway, it is not the first time Sellers has teamed up with Turn One Racing. Sellers raced the No. 64 SkillsUSA Chevrolet for Turn One Racing last Fall at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

“We’re really looking forward to having Peyton back in one of our trucks this weekend at Pocono,” said Compton. “He’s only 27, but he’s somewhat of a veteran because he’s been racing for over 20 years! Peyton has a lot of talent and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do behind the wheel of the No. 66 truck at “The Tricky Triangle”. The team is coming off of a strong finish last weekend at Lucas Oil Raceway (10th) and we’re looking forward to carrying that momentum to Pocono.”

“I ready to get back to Texas,” said Justin Marks. “We’re taking a truck that debuted this year at Charlotte and seemed to race really well so I’m looking forward to continuing its development. We had a bit of a rough day at Kansas and need to get a good run going again and continue this team’s momentum. Texas has been good to me in the past. It’s an awesome race track, very fast and on the edge, but very raceable as well. It can jump up to bite you in a hurry but it has a lot of room and makes for some of the best racing all year long.”

LAST RACE RECAP:

Justin Marks and the No. 66 GoPro Chevrolet were riding on momentum heading into the O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway. Their hopes were high after a season best performance at Charlotte (ninth), but a disappointing qualifying lap (27th) and unexpected handling issues took the team out of contention and relegated them to a 20th place finish.

THE CREW CHIEF’S CHOICE FOR TEXAS:

Crew Chief Doug Wolcott has selected chassis No. 143 for the 15th Annual WinStar World Casino “400k”. This truck made its debut at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 20, where it qualified 25th and finished ninth. During comprehensive wind tunnel testing, this truck posted impressive numbers and is one of the best trucks in the Turn One fleet. It was Wolcott’s obvious choice for the aero-sensitive 1.5-mile oval of Texas Motor Speedway.

TURN ONE WELCOMES CONSTRUCT CORPS AT TEXAS:

Construct Corps, a leading provider of temporary skilled workers for construction, disaster response, environmental and manufacturing companies throughout the U.S., has teamed up with Turn One Racing at Texas Motor Speedway. Through its exclusive Construct Buddy recruiting system, Construct Corps provides more workers in more locations with one point of contact than any other company.
THE COURTYARD IS BACK ON BOARD IN TEXAS:

“Kansas is a great track. I had a good run there in the truck series in 2008 and I’ve been quick in ARCA. I think it’s a place that really suits my driving style and will play well into our strengths as a team right now. We had a good run at Charlotte so I think our 1.5 mile program is pretty solid. We just need to keep building on our momentum and developing these trucks and we’ll be closer to a win each week. The GoPro team has been working hard and we’re all looking forward to another top-10 or better in Kansas.”

LAST RACE RECAP:

Justin Marks scored his second consecutive top-10 finish in N.C. Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, claiming the O’Reilly Auto Parts Position Improvement Award after qualifying 25th and finishing ninth. Marks climbed four positions in the Driver Point standings, and is currently ranked 15th, just 15 points out of the top-10.

Marks last raced this truck at Nashville Superspeedway where he qualified 27th and finished 25th. Prior to Nashville, this truck competed at Darlington Raceway where it qualified 28th and finished 24th. The team is looking for better results in Kansas.

In only his second career start at Dover International Speedway, Marks’ claimed the Keystone Light Pole Award for the 200-lap battle at “The Monster Mile” and raced on to finish 10th at the infamous one-mile oval.

“Obviously it was a great weekend for us,” said Marks after the race. “We’ve been working so hard to find our chemistry, especially between me and Doug (Wolcott, Crew Chief), and turn that into results. We all felt like we had all the tools we needed to accomplish something, it was just a matter of putting them to use in the most effective way.”

After unloading “pretty good” but struggling with an ill-handling truck in practice; the GoPro team hit on “something” that led them down the path towards the pole position. “I think right towards the end of second practice we hit on something that immediately made the GoPro Chevy pretty racey and comfortable,” Marks’ explained. As practice came to a close, the team did not make a qualifying run, leaving the competition unaware of the threat lingering for the pole. “In qualifying I just tried to hold it wide open and it was beautiful,” Marks’ explained. “(It was) really a testament to what Doug has put together and how hard these guys are working to bring a good product to the track.”

Marks’ won the Keystone Light Pole Award with a lap of 22.941 seconds at a speed of 156.924 miles per hour – nearly a tenth of a second faster than the time posted by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regular, Kevin Harvick. The pole was the second of Marks’ career; his first pole came at Texas Motor Speedway in June of 2008.

Justin Marks

After leading the field to the green flag, Marks’ had his hands full. He battled an ill-handling truck and a pit road penalty, but remained in the top-12 for most of the race. “We just struggled all day with being a bit free on entry and tight through the middle of the corner, kind of similar to practice,” Marks’ said. “I felt we made some good adjustments throughout the day that put us in a position to keep up and contend to be in the top-10 at the end of the day – which we did.”

Finishing in the top-10 has been the goal of the team all year. Getting the pole, well that was just icing on the cake. “Finishing in the top-10 has really been our goal regardless of where we qualify,” said Marks. “That didn’t change when we won the pole. The goal was to still finish in the top-10, get some good points, and restore confidence in this GoPro team. I just can’t wait to get to the track now and keep rolling.”

“Dover is one of my favorite racetracks on the schedule. It requires a nice combination of technical ability and courage to go fast. It’s also fun to go to tracks such as this because they are so unique and don’t fit the mould of more traditional short tracks or intermediate “cookie-cutter” facilities.”

MARKS ON TESTING FOR DOVER:

“We had, what I think, to be our most effective test of the year last week in Rockingham with the GoPro Chevy. We used it to work a bit on our baseline for Dover and to get some experience with a new truck we have not taken to the track yet in 2011. However, a more important theme of the test was to work on developing the communication between Doug (Wolcott, Crew Chief) and myself and really work hard on figuring out how to get the most of myself and the truck. I continue to feel like we are getting stronger, the strength of the series and these other teams has come a long ways, even since 2008 when I was here, so that process is difficult.”

MARKS TO MEET FANS ON FRIDAY:

Justin Marks, teammate Cole Whitt, and other NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers will take part in an autograph session on Friday, May 13th at Dover International Speedway. We’re just glad we’re able to honor them this weekend.”

I feel like we’ve been making some progress the last couple races on pace and even though we struggled just a bit with the GoPro Chevy at Martinsville, I think we have a good package heading into the weekend and have some good notes that we can build on.
MARKS RETURNS TO MARTINSVILLE:

Justin Marks will make his second career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday. The track, which is best known for its paper-clip shape and 12° banking, is one of the most challenging tracks on the circuit. “It’s obviously a very difficult race track; its one of the most difficult tracks on the schedule,” said Marks. “I feel like we had a pretty good test and I feel like we’re making progress every time, so I’m looking forward to it. Martinsville is one of those tracks that I’m going to have to lean on the veterans as much as I can and get as much advice as I can over the course of the weekend because typically the new guys, or the less experienced guys, don’t do that well there.

There is such a style to getting around there fast. I really enjoy driving the track; I think it’s a really cool venue and sort of a unique challenge. I’m encouraged because I feel like this team is getting better and better every week. We’re ready to apply it and get a good finish.”

THE CREW CHIEF’S CHOICE FOR MARTINSVILLE:

Crew Chief Doug Wolcott has selected chassis No. 54 for the 13th Annual Kroger “250”. This truck was last raced by former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion, Jack Sprague at Martinsville Speedway in 2008. The truck qualified 15th and finished 11th with Sprague at the controls. Since then, the truck underwent a complete overhaul including a new front clip and body.

MEET MARKS ON SATURDAY!:

Justin Marks, teammate Cole Whitt, and other NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers will take part in an autograph session on Saturday, April 2nd from 9 to 10 a.m. The autograph session will take place across from the ticket office at Martinsville Speedway.

Justin Marks

MARKS PREPARES FOR MARTINSVILLE WITH MOTOR MILE TEST:

Justin Marks and the No. 66 GoPro team took their Chevrolet Silverado race truck to Motor Mile Speedway in Dublin, Va. last week for a private test session to prepare for the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway. “I think the test went real well,” said Marks. “I think the guys all worked together better than they have at any other race track this year, races included. We were able to get through a lot of changes and stick to the plan really closely. The truck responded really well to the different stuff that we did and we changed a lot of geometry. I think it was great because now I am comfortable in the truck and I know how to drive it. I feel like it was a really efficient test. It was definitely great for us to do because I think we learned a lot about this truck. “

Being patient and on his toes seemed to pay off at the track best known for leaving its mark on unsuspecting superstars, until Marks’ – who had avoided the event’s first seven wrecks – made contact with the wall just 49 laps from the conclusion of the 6th Annual Too Tough to Tame 200.

“I was happy that we had a truck that was the most competitive so far this year,” said Marks after the race. “It looked like the GoPro Chevy was headed to a solid top-15 finish, maybe better. I’m not sure if there was something on the track or if I just made a mistake but we got sideways right behind Ricky (Carmichael) when he went around. We caught the wall just enough to end our night. It was pretty disappointing.”

Before the collision, the 29-year-old Rocklin, California native had cracked the top-15, which was a significant improvement over qualifying, where his fast lap would only claim 28th starting spot. “Darlington is a very difficult racetrack but a lot of fun to drive,” said Marks. “Everything you hear about showing respect and staying focused are absolutely true. It requires a level of concentration and confidence rare to other tracks.”

That concentration and confidence paid off at the drop of the green flag. Marks started 28th and never looked back; breaking into the top-20 after 10 laps. After logging 25 laps and avoiding the event’s first three accidents, Marks’ brought his No. 66 GoPro Chevrolet down pit road to the attention of the crew, who outfitted his Silverado with four fresh Goodyear tires, fuel, and an air pressure adjustment to help aid the truck from being tight in the center of the corner, and loose off.

When the race resumed, the truck picked up speed and Marks was able to drive it into the top-15 by lap 40. Taking the opportunity to hit pit road again under caution on lap 59, Crew Chief Doug Wolcott called for two right side tires, fuel, and a track bar adjustment, returning Marks to the track 14th.

Justin Marks

Marks battled in the top-15 until the next caution waived on lap 90 for a single truck wreck in turn two. Making his final pit stop of the night, Marks hit pit road for four tires, fuel, and an air pressure adjustment, returning to the track 15th. Just three laps after taking the green flag on lap 95, Ricky Carmichael wrecked while exiting turn four and made hard contact with the outside retaining wall. Marks tried to take evasive action to miss Carmichael’s machine, but he slapped the wall with the right front instead.

Marks limped his GoPro Chevrolet to pit road under caution where the crew assessed the damage. With the toe knocked out and the right front fender gone, Marks’ chances of coming away with a top-10 at Darlington were done. After a short red flag, the race resumed with Marks in 26th place. Despite the damage, Marks hung on to finish 24th in his Darlington debut.

Marks and the No. 66 GoPro team will enjoy two weeks off before heading to Martinsville Speedway for the Kroger 250 on Saturday, April 2nd for race number 4 of 25 in the 2011 Camping World Truck Series season.

(Monday, February 28, 2011) — Just a week after competing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway, Justin Marks and the No. 66 GoPro team made the long trek out West for round two of competition at Phoenix International Raceway on Friday night. Marks made the most out of a heated situation, rebounding from a motor failure in practice to qualify 27th and finish 18th in The Valley of the Sun.

“Phoenix was a tough night for us again but I think we made the most out of what we had to work with,” said Marks after the one-day show in the Arizona desert. “The GoPro Chevy was tight all through practice and the race but Doug (Wolcott, Crew Chief) and the guys made good adjustments on the truck and we made forward progress during the race.”

After losing an engine in the events only practice session, Marks’ crew went to work to swap out motors. Even with the loss of valuable track time, the team never lost sight of their goal of claiming a top-15 finish. With no laps on their new motor, Marks cautiously hit the track for qualifying and laid down a fast lap of 27.967 seconds at a speed of 128.723 miles per hour. The lap was good for 27th starting position for the 150-lap shootout on Friday night.

The green flag dropped for the start of the Lucas Oil 150 shortly after 6 p.m. Within the first 10 laps, Marks’ had moved past slower traffic and into the 24th position. When NASCAR threw the event’s first caution on lap 43 for debris, Marks’ keyed the radio to tell the crew that his GoPro Chevrolet was tight in the center. Crew Chief Doug Wolcott called Marks’ to pit road where the crew outfitted the GoPro Chevrolet with four fresh Goodyear tires, fuel, and air pressure and track bar adjustments.

Returning to the track in 25th position, Marks’ continued to make laps around the one-mile oval while battling a tight truck. When NASCAR displayed the yellow flag on lap 102 for an accident in turn three, Marks’ hit pit road for his final stop of the night, taking on four tires, fuel, and another round of air pressure and track bar adjustments.

Justin Marks

Marks’ continued to fight a tight race truck as the night went on. With cooling temperatures, the track seemed to tighten up, making his GoPro Chevrolet hard to drive. Despite an ill-handling truck, Marks’ managed to avoid the event’s final five cautions to claim an 18th place finish in only his second Camping World Truck Series start at the Phoenix flat track.

“It’s taking me a little bit of time to get back into the swing of things in the Camping World Truck Series but I feel like I made progress as a driver during the race,” Marks’ said. “I’m definitely looking forward to going to Darlington, a place I’ve never been to. I think we are getting a bit better every week and looking forward to taking the next step and contending for a top-10.”

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will return to Darlington Raceway on Saturday, March 12th for the Too Tough To Tame 200. The race will be broadcast on live on the Speed Channel with radio coverage coming to you live on Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio and MRN Radio starting at 5 p.m. ET.

(Monday, February 21, 2011) – Justin Marks kicked off the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season with a bang on Friday night, under the lights, at Daytona International Speedway, but the excitement didn’t end with Marks’ holding the coveted trophy in Victory Lane. Instead of claiming the win, Marks’ No. 66 GoPro team faced misfortune and came out on top with a 24th place finish in the NextEra Energy Resources 250.

“It was a bit of a frustrating night with a lot of what seemed like just teething issues with a new group of guys and a new team,” said Marks after the race. “What was good was that the GoPro Chevrolet was pretty fast in the draft. I felt like we could go on offense with it and make some moves on our own which is what you want when you come to these big tracks,” he explained.

The “teething issues” began in practice and carried over to qualifying for the 100-lap event on Thursday night. Marks’ GoPro Chevrolet was fast in the draft, but didn’t live up to expectations on its single truck run in qualifying. The No. 66 laid down a qualifying lap of 52.045 seconds at a speed of 172.927 miles per hour, which was good for 30th starting position for Friday night’s race.

While staged on pit road before the race, Marks’ strapped into his GoPro Chevrolet. As the Grand Marshall instructed the drivers to fire their engines, Marks’ keyed the radio to talk to the crew and was met with radio interference. The team tried to fix the issues while parked on pit road, but Marks’ was forced to start at the tail of the field for the start of the race.

Radio issues aside, Marks’ took the green flag and wasted no time finding his spot in the draft and working his way past slower traffic. Shown 23rd just 12 laps in, Marks’ was marching through the field before a hood pin came loose and he was forced to bring his Chevrolet down pit road for an unscheduled green flag stop on lap 26. Crew Chief Doug Wolcott called for fuel and no tires before the team attempted to repair the hood with bearbond.

Justin Marks

“The hood coming apart was a pretty slow developing thing. Once it started flapping we really lost the edge and had to follow a bit and work traffic in a certain way to get as much air off the hood as possible,” Marks’ explained. “It kind of changed the game plan a bit.” When Marks’ returned to the track he was one lap down to the leaders and barely missed a shot at the “lucky dog” when the caution flag was displayed on lap 39. “When we were forced to it to fix (the hood) and lost our opportunity at the lucky dog, it just kind of turned to a survival thing.”

With survival in mind, Wolcott called Marks in for his second stop of the night on lap 49 to try and repair the hood once more. Unfortunately, the damage was already done. When Marks’ returned to the track, a second hood pin broke and metal bracing punctured his right front tire, forcing Marks’ hard into the outside retaining wall in turn one.

Marks’ returned to pit road where the crew cut away the hood, but Marks’ was mired deep in the field, nearly seven laps down. “All in all, it was a tough race but the GoPro Chevy team did a good job and guys worked really hard in the face of adversity,” explained Marks after the race. “I think we have a group of guys that have a good work ethic and are pretty invested in this thing so that’s encouraging as we move forward.” Marks’ was able to salvage a 24th place finish after avoiding several late race multi-truck crashes that took out most of the field.

“The way things shook out, it wasn’t the worst points day as a lot of strong contenders had tough nights as well so we’re still positioned well going to the next race,” said Marks, who currently sits 19th in the championship title chase.

“I feel like we had a good test at Gresham and both us and the 60 have strong trucks going to Phoenix so I think we can achieve a lot there as a team,” Marks’ said. “With the new points system, it would appear that the mulligans you get hurt you a bit more than in the past so lets hope this is our only hiccup this year and we can go to work in Arizona.”

Marks and the No. 66 GoPro team will head West to Phoenix International Raceway for race number 2 of 25 in the 2011 Camping World Truck Series season. The race will be televised live on the SPEED channel on Friday, February 25th at 8 p.m. ET.

MARKS ON RETURNING TO RACING AT DAYTONA:

Justin Marks is excited to kick off the 2011 season by returning to the track that produced one of the most memorable races of his career. “I still tell people to this day that one of the most exciting races I’ve ever run in my career was the NCWTS race at Daytona in 2008. Daytona is an amazing track with such a deep history. It’s a unique place to race because it requires such a different approach. Daytona is really such a fitting way to kick off the season in any of the three NASCAR divisions because of its intensity and excitement, more than anything I’m just ready to get our year started.”

MARKS ON HIS OUTLOOK FOR THE RACE:

Daytona is often considered a high speed chess match, and Marks knows the strategy he needs to play. “We have to balance our run for the championship and not putting ourselves in risky situations at Daytona with our desire to try and win our biggest race. Ideally, I’d like to be able to just ride and not get too aggressive until the end. If we can keep ourselves near the front and fenders clean all race, we’ll be able to go the offensive at the end. This race is won by drivers and teams who can get their equipment close to the front at the white flag and then make their move late for the checkered flag.”

TURN ONE RACING WELCOMES GOPRO AS TITLE SPONSOR:

Turn One Racing is pleased to welcome GoPro, the maker of the world’s best selling and highest performance wearable HD video cameras, as the primary sponsor of Marks’ No. 66 Chevrolet. For Marks, the use of GoPro’s products is a no-brainer, with plans to implement the use of GoPro products on his website, JustinMarksRacing.com, as well as various aspects of the team’s every day operations from test sessions to meet-and-greets. An official announcement will be made in the coming weeks.

RACE WINNING CREW CHIEF DOUG WOLCOTT JOINS TURN ONE RACING:

“I think we’re building a really competitive group led by Doug Wolcott,” said Marks of his new leader. “He’s got so much experience and talent and knows how to work with relatively inexperienced drivers. We’re not a big team but what we lack in resources I think we make up for in our people and their work ethic and their desire. The most important thing is what we bring to the racetrack and who brings it and in that department, I’d put us up against any team in the garage.”

CREW CHIEF DOUG WOLCOTT’S CHOICE FOR DAYTONA: Crew Chief Doug Wolcott has selected chassis No. 107 for the 12th Annual NextEra Energy Resources 250. This truck last competed at Talladega Superspeedway in 2010, where it qualified 14th and went on to finish 13th after being caught up in a wreck while running sixth. The truck had a brand new Chevrolet body installed over the off season and it is expected to produce even better results with Marks behind the wheel.

ABOUT GOPRO:

Based in Half Moon Bay, California, GoPro is the world’s leading activity image capture company. GoPro’s HD HERO line of wearable and gear mountable cameras and accessories are sold in over 60 countries, in specialty sports retailers, Best Buy, and online at gopro.com.

(Tuesday, January 11, 2011) - Turn One Racing announced today that Justin Marks will drive the No. 66 Chevrolet Silverado full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, starting with the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, February 18th. The team has also signed a new major primary sponsor for Marks’ Silverado; however details will be announced leading up to the NextEra Energy Resources 250 at the “World Center of Speed”.

“It’s a great thing for me personally to have the opportunity to come back into the Truck Series after spending a few years racing in other divisions,” Marks explained. “I’ve always had a lot of respect for Stacy Compton and his team, both when it was Wyler Racing and now as Turn One Racing. What’s great about being able to experience NASCAR like I did in 2008, and come back after a couple years out of it, is the perspective I’ve gained from reflecting on that time and learning what kind of program I need to come back to in order to be successful. Stacy has been refreshingly honest with me and given me the blueprint for success in 2011. I’m thrilled for what’s ahead and am already working hard on being the best I can be and making this year count.”

Marks, 29, is coming off of an impressive season in the ARCA Racing Series where he finished sixth in the 2010 driver point standings after scoring one win, seven top-five and 13 top-10 finishes in 20 starts. Marks also took the pole at New Jersey Motorsports Park and led 132 laps in the series overall.

“We are very happy to have Justin join our driver lineup this season,” said Team Owner, Stacy Compton. “He is coming off a very successful year in the ARCA Racing Series where he proved his talents as a driver. Adding Justin to our driver lineup will help build our program and put us in a position to win races and championships in the future.”

Justin Marks

Marks made his NASCAR debut in the Camping World Truck Series in 2007 and ran a partial schedule in 2008, where he claimed the pole at Texas Motor Speedway. In total, Marks has made 22 starts in the series. Over the last three years, Marks has also competed in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, where he has made seven starts.

Former race winning crew chief and NASCAR veteran Doug Wolcott will lead the team in 2011. Wolcott was most recently a crew chief at Randy Moss Motorsports where he called the shots for drivers Tayler Malsam and David Starr, among others. Prior to joining RMM, Wolcott was a crew chief at Bill Davis Racing, where he guided driver Scott Speed to a win at Dover in May of 2008 and helped that truck to 11th place in the owners’ standings with four different rookie drivers.

“Doug is a guy that has been around this sport a long time and he’s worked with and won with young guys,” said Marks. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and an unmatched work ethic. We already have a good working relationship that’s growing by the day so I think by the time Daytona rolls around; we’ll be firing on all cylinders. This is the first time in my career that I’ve been able to bring a crew chief into a program and work with him to build the effort around us and our goals so I’m pretty excited.”

Wolcott, who has more than 30 years of experience in the sport, grew up driving asphalt modifieds in the northeast and cut his teeth racing at Wall Stadium in New Jersey.

Marks will begin his full-time Truck Series effort when the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series tackles the high banks of Daytona International Speedway in a 100-lap, 250-mile battle on Friday, February 18, 2011.

(Sept. 21, 2010) – Randy Moss Motorsports will return to Las Vegas Motor Speedway as a two-truck organization with sophomore driver Tayler Malsam behind the wheel of the team’s second Toyota Tundra entry. Malsam will return to the team where he made his rookie of the year campaign in the NASCAR® Camping World Truck Series™ to pilot the No. 25 EXIDE Batteries Toyota Tundra at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to go back to Randy Moss Motorsports and race with my old team,” commented Washington native Malsam. “When we parted ways it was on good terms and I’m still friends with the guys on the team so it’s like I’m going back to race with family. Exide is a fantastic sponsor; we had a great time working together last season and I’m looking forward to having them on my Toyota Tundra at Las Vegas [Motor Speedway]. Hopefully we can pick up right where we left off and race for the win on Saturday night.”

Despite a new number on the side of his Toyota Tundra, Malsam will compete with many of the same team members that he raced with during his rookie campaign including crew chief Doug Wolcott.

“It’s going to be great to have Tayler back behind the wheel of our Toyota Tundra,” said Wolcott. “We had a lot of success with Tayler throughout the 2009 season—10 top-10 finishes and finished just outside the top-10 [in 12th] in the season point standings. There is no doubt that Tayler is a talented driver; he gives great feedback to help us make the adjustments we need on the truck and knows how to get up on the wheel. Our guys have worked hard to prepare a great truck for the race at Las Vegas [Motor Speedway] and I think you’ll see us racing near the front of the field before the night is over on Saturday.”

Randy Moss Motorsports started the season as a two-truck organization but took a brief three-week hiatus to regroup and prepare for Malsam’s return to the No. 25 Exide Batteries Toyota Tundra. Malsam is expected to be behind the wheel of the No. 25 Toyota Tundra again before the 2010 season concludes, stay tuned for race dates and sponsor information.

We are hearing that both rookie Johanna Long and Tayler Malsam will return to CWTS competition in the desert.

First, expect an announcement on Monday that Long will be driving a truck prepared by her family’s race team, Panhandle Motorsports. We’ve heard that her effort will be led by veteran crew chief Kevin “Cowboy” Starland, and that more races might be upcoming for Long and Panhandle for the 2010 season. If she qualifies, the Vegas race will mark Long’s fourth start of the season. In her previous three truck starts (for Billy Ballew Motorsports) coming at O’Reilly Raceway Park, Nashville Superspeedway, and Chicagoland Speedway, Long has scored two top 20 finishes. Besides racing trucks, Long has spent the season making various latemodel starts at tracks in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, and has two USAR ProCup starts.

Malsam, who has been racing in the Nationwide Series since being released by Kyle Busch Motorsports early in the season, will return to the Truck Series in an entry fielded by Randy Moss Motorsports. Malsam competed for RMM for the entire 2009 season before moving on to KBM for 2010. Expect veteran crew chief Doug Wolcott to call the shots for Malsam’s team at LVMS. Malsam ran the first seven truck races of the season for KBM before his team was shut down due to lack of funding. The young driver from Washington was then given an opportunity to run for Braun Racing in the Nationwide Series and has since made 11 starts with a best finish of 11th. No word on if any more truck races are planned for Malsam.

Moving forward, it’s always good to see new teams and young drivers getting a chance to make their mark in the sport. Both of these drivers have a ton of potential, and adding competitive teams to entry lists is always a good thing.

August 14, 2010

No. 81 Randy Moss Motorsports Toyota Tundra News and Notes

· This Week’s Tundra… The No. 81 Zachry Toyota Tundra team will compete with chassis RMM-103 during Saturday’s 200-mile event at the Darlington Raceway. The chassis was last raced at Pocono Raceway where Starr crossed the finish line in the 13th position.

Racing for Four Consecutive Top-10’s at Darlington… David Starr is one of six drivers to have achieved three top-ten finishes at Darlington Raceway. The driver of the No. 81 Zachry Toyota Tundra will race for a record four top-10 finishes in four starts at the historic track on Saturday night.

Excellent Record at Darlington Raceway… Not only has Starr achieved three top-10 finishes at Darlington Raceway, but he has also secured three top-10 starting positions. With an average start and average finish of 7.3, statistically speaking, Darlington Raceway is one of Starr’s best tracks.

Local Talent to Enjoy ‘Home Race’ at Darlington… Fayetteville, N.C. native Matt House will return to his home track, Darlington Raceway, for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event this weekend. House, a 2004 graduate of Cape Fear High School, is the front tire carrier on the No. 81 Zachry Toyota Tundra team.

Welcome Back… Zachry Holdings Inc. returns to the hood of the No. 81 Toyota Tundra for this weekend’s 147-lap event at the lady in black. The San Antonio based operation has been a partner of Randy Moss Motorsports since the start of the 2010 season.

“Darlington is a great track and a fun place to race; I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the No. 81 Zachry Toyota Tundra there. It truly is a driver’s track and lives up to its motto—the track ‘too tough to tame.’ You need to go down in the corner and hit your marks to handle well. If you miss your marks you’re going to be wrestling your truck through the corners; if you do that repeatedly, you’re going to have a really long day.

“One of the coolest things about Darlington [Raceway] is how old the speedway is and all of the history that it has; it was one of the first tracks that NASCAR raced at. It’s always fun to watch the Sprint Cup Series cars race there, and with all of the technology advancements that we’ve had since our last race there I can’t wait to see the NASCAR Camping World Truck series in action. It will be a race that is exciting for the competitors and fans alike.”

Crew Chief Doug Wolcott on racing at Darlington Raceway

“The No. 81 Zachry Toyota Tundra team has high expectations for the race at Darlington [Raceway]. Last week was a tough week for our team and really tested our ability to work together, but we persevered and came home with a top-15 finish. When I looked through David’s stats in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Darlington Raceway was one of the tracks that really stuck out; he’s done exceptionally well there. We’ve put a lot of hard work into preparing the truck for this Too Tough To Tame 200, and with a little bit of luck on our side I think we could have a really great weekend.”
