Not only is the 19-year old determined to strut his stuff on the DuQuoin turf, but he is also serious about bouncing back from last Friday night’s misfortune at Madison International Speedway where an engine failure relegated the team to a 23rd place finish.

No. 58 Tastee Apple Chevrolet Impala

With Madison in the past and his No. 58 Tastee Apple Chevrolet Impala decked out and ready for action, Hackenbracht under the leadership of crew chief Kevin Reed feels that his chances of recording his ninth top-10 finish of the season are obtainable.

“I’m going into DuQuoin with the same outlook that I had for Springfield,” said Hackenbracht, a native of New Philadelphia, Ohio. “This dirt racing has the ability to be pretty intense. I learned that in Springfield. In a way though looking back at a couple weeks ago, I’m sure what I gathered there can help me on Monday.”

When asked about his thoughts of dirt racing being included in the ARCA Racing Series schedule, he said. “It’s something that I’ve never experienced before, that’s for sure. If everything is going right, it can be a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun, but I’ll admit, I was disappointed with a 10th (Springfield). Realistically, I think we can improve on that immensely at DuQuoin.”

In order to stay in contention, the rising phenom knows that tire conservation is crucial to success. Hackenbracht explained, “It was interesting how the lap times dropped and the car’s handling changed as the tires became worn. I’ve done a lot of talking since Springfield with some more drivers hoping to learn just a little more about this dirt racing and hopefully it will pay off.”

Knowing that the historical events on the dirt bring all sorts of racecar drivers out of the woodwork, the rising phenom will grip onto their footsteps and see if he can’t learn even more before taking the green flag in the 16th race of the season.

“Ron (Cox) was someone I learned a lot from,” Hackenbracht recalled from Springfield. “He didn’t have the fastest car in the field, but he knew what he was doing. Looking at the entry list, there’s going to be some new players in the mix, so maybe I can learn something from them too.”

Just four races remain on the calendar in 2011 with the CGH Motorsports team occupying eighth in the championship chase. Hackenbracht in the back of his mind has set a realistic goal for season’s end. “I’m hoping to fight our way into the top-five,” he said. “I know our setback at Madison has tried to thwart our goal for the end of the year, but we’re fighters. We’re just going to keep racing as hard as we can and let the points fall into place.” Entering DuQuoin, Hackenbracht stands just 235 points from locking the fifth position.

The family-owned CGH Motorsports led by 2010 ARCA Racing Series crew chief of the year Kevin Reed has elected to bring the same No. 58 Tastee Apple Chevrolet Impala SS they competed with in the Allen Crowe 100 at Springfield. At one time, the same vehicle was driven by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon. The former Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway and Martinsville (Va.) Speedway automobile has been specifically transformed to handle the adverse conditions of the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

“I have told Chad we were ok at Springfield,” offered Reed. “He got a lesson in dirt racing and we have gone back to work and fine-tuned a few things and are prepared and ready for a solid top-five run. We have had a run of bad luck here over the past few weeks and looking to turn our season back around on Monday and finish out the last four races in preparation for a 2012 championship effort.”

Chad Hackenbracht

How Bad Do You Know Chad?: Continuing to shed a personal angle on Chad Hackenbracht, this week the rising star talks about a recent contest he launched in his bi-weekly radio segment on Tuesday night’s with Race Talk Radio’s Thunder Crew.

Starting this past Tuesday, Hackenbracht and the Thunder Crew will offer a question that pertains to Hackenbracht or the CGH Motorsports team every Tuesday until the end of the 2011 ARCA season. The first contestant who correctly emails in the answer will win a “What’s A Chad Hacken-Something” tee-shirt and a box of apples courtesy of Tastee Apple.

Hackenbracht sees the game as a way of opening his waive of communication with his fan-base which he realizes is crucial as he tries to climb the ladder in Motorsports competition.

“I enjoy hanging out with the fans. Without them, there is no racing and that’s a fact. What I love about the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is at almost every event we try and have an autograph session either at the track or near the track.

It’s great to interact with new fans and see the old ones keep coming back. After a while you build a relationship with them and while that’s important to them, it’s even more important to me. Hearing the crowd cheer as your name is called in driver introductions makes us realize how truly lucky I am.”

The Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Auto Parts (100 laps / 100 miles) is the 16th of 19 events on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 29th ARCA event held at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds is a one-day show. Practice begins Monday, September 5 with a one hour practice session planned from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. The field will take the green flag that afternoon shortly after 1:00 p.m. The event will not be televised but race coverage including live timing and scoring throughout the 1,328th race for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards since it was formed in 1953 will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com presented by ARCANation.com. Unfortunately mechanical gremlins halted what easily could have been a career-best night for the second generation driver.

Earlier in the week, the Brevak Racing team announced a new marketing partner for ARCA’s return to Madison International Speedway as the Legendary Waters Resort and Casino leaped aboard the team’s No. 3 Dodge Charger for the 15th race of the season.

Armed with the support and guidance of long-time ARCA veteran Mark Gibson, Brevak and the team knew that the short hour and a half practice session would be crucial in helping dial in the team’s No. 3 Legendary Waters Resort and Casino Dodge Charger.

With the field extremely tight, Brevak posted the 19th fastest lap overall after posting a time of 19.300 seconds at 93.264 miles per hour. Somewhat satisfied with their effort, Brevak, Gibson and other members of the family-owned team connected together and agreed on a setup for qualifying which included a gear change.

When time trials rolled around, Brevak, the son of 1990 ARCA Racing Series champion Bob Brevak maneuvered his No. 3 Legendary Waters Resort and Casino Dodge Charger around the half-mile short track in 18.614 seconds or 96.701 miles per hour, landing them 10th overall in Brevak’s first short track contest of 2011.

Exceptionally pleased with the performance of their Dodge Charger in qualifying, the team set their attention towards the 200-lap race.

Knowing the characteristics of Madison International Speedway, Brevak knew that being around in the end would be pivotal to a good finish. From the moment the green flag dropped, Brevak remained on his toes but mounted consistent and respectable lap times.

With the track being extremely difficult to pass, the ARCA Racing Series teams would have to use different types of strategy to make their way through the field. For Brevak, one of his strategies was to keep his No. 3 Legendary Waters Resort and Casino Dodge Charger on the lead lap and within the sights of the lead pack.

Able to do both and hovering comfortable inside the top-15 during the race’s first quarter, it appeared that Brevak was setting himself up for his second top-10 finish of the season but the team’s night began to go array just after lap 50.

Under green flag conditions, Brevak informed his team of a problem with the brakes, which was later proven to be a malfunction in the brake bias which almost completely eliminated Brevak’s front brakes.

While dealing with hardly any brakes, Brevak impressively maintained his position on the lead lap and utilized a caution flag near the half-way point hoping to make a statement.

Knowing that fresh rubber could be the winning element in the Herr’s Live Life With Flavor! 200, the team stayed out on the race track which lined the No. 3 Legendary Waters Resort and Casino Dodge Charger fifth on the grid.

As the cars began to accelerate on the restart, more gremlins would bite the Ashland, Wisconsin native as a failure in the drivetrain would force Brevak to end his fifth race of the season wondering what could have been.

The team would be credited with completing 92 laps and finishing 25th overall.

Brent Brevak

“We definitely had a sporty car in qualifying,” Brevak said, “And we were running as planned early in the race which meant just staying as close to the lead pack as possible but giving ourselves enough room that if something transpired, we could escape. Near lap 50, the brake bias malfunction really made it difficult and wicked to enter the turns with hardly any brakes in the front end. Despite the brake issue, we decided to take a gamble and I really thought it was going to pay off – but then on the restart, we had something break in the drivetrain and that was that.”

The recent college graduate added, “I want to thank the Legendary Waters Resort and Casino for jumping aboard with us for ARCA’s return to Madison. I really enjoyed representing them. I hated that we could not give them a better finish, but hopefully we’ll have a chance to make it up to them down the road. For us now, we’ll get ourselves back together and head to Kansas in October and see if we can’t have a nice recovery there.”

In addition to the Legendary Waters Resort and Casino, Club Lamark also served as an associate sponsor on the No. 3 Dodge Charger on Friday night.

Next up for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is the second and final installment on the dirt when the sanctioning body makes their annual trip to the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds for the running of the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Auto Parts on Labor Day, Monday, September 5.

Brevak Racing encourages their fans and supporters to check out their official Brevak Racing Group Facebook page where you can find more about the team and the “Ride Along With Brent” fan participation program.

Also, be sure to visit the NEWLY redesigned and re-launched Brent Brevak and Brevak Racing website at brevakracing.com. The team would like to thank TYG Media for their expertise and support of the Brevak Racing team.

OREGON, Wisconsin (August 29, 2011) – - If you would have asked Tom Hessert if he had a car capable of finishing inside the top-five in Friday night’s Herr’s Live Life With Flavor! 200 at Madison International Speedway, his response wouldn’t have been confident as he would have liked. But, after the conclusion of the 15th race of the season, Hessert stormed his way to his fourth consecutive top-five finish in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.

No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet Impala

Hessert, in the No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet Impala for Ken Schrader Racing (KSR) headed into ARCA’s return at Madison in 37 years on the heels of a superb runner-up finish on the dirt at the Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield). The team led by veteran crew chief John Monsam, the group was hoping to keep their second half surge alive.

During the only practice session on Friday, Hessert posted the 18th quickest lap overall with a time of 19.110 seconds at 94.192 miles per hour, an uncharacteristic placing for the veteran team and driver. Fighting an incredible tight No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet Impala.

Throwing everything but the “kitchen sink” at their Chevrolet bowtie before qualifying Friday afternoon, Hessert climbed into his racecar optimistic about where he would land for his 79th career ARCA start. Mounting a lap of 18.697 seconds transferring to 96.272 miles per hour, the KSR team landed 13th in the lineup.

“We’re making some progress,” said Hessert following qualifying. “We’re still tight, but it’s not as bad as it was in practice. A good finish won’t be handed to us; we’re going to have earn it.”

The green flag waived shortly after 8:30 p.m. with Hessert quickly thundering his way towards the front. By lap six the Cherry Hill, New Jersey native moved into 11th and maintained his position just outside the top-10 through the race’s first 25 circuits.

Knocking on the door of the top-10, Hessert would find himself in a close battle with Sean Corr for 10th. Tight quarters at Madison International Speedway meant a lot of incidental contact on-track including the incident on lap 30 when the No. 52 and No. 82 made contact going into turn one. No harm no foul for Hessert as the caution flag waived with Hessert claiming 10th.

Moving into eighth when the yellow flag waived on lap 87, Monsam elected to bring his driver to pit road for tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment to combat the tightness on the No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet Impala.

By lap the half-way mark, good work by the team on pit road and a determined driver saw them into the top-five claiming fourth. Fending off his prey behind him, Hessert would maintain a safety-net inside the top-five until a spin on lap 157.

With his coveted track position now gone, Hessert would bring his No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet Impala where the team inspected the vehicle and bolted on new Hoosier rubber sending their driver back into the hunt, now restarting 10th.

On the restart, Hessert knew that patience was out the window. If he wanted to revive his team, some harmless aggressiveness from behind the wheel would have to be in the playing cards to battle his way back through.

Using the new rubber to his advantage, Hessert was quickly and impressively able to climb the leaderboard moving back into eighth by lap 166. A few laps later, Hessert continued to motor his way back towards the top-five and found himself their by lap 176.

Continuing to stay focused on the wheel, Hessert set his sights on fourth place runner Ty Dillon. Inside the final 10 laps of the race, a caution flag waived which set the field for a three-lap shootout. Despite trying to make the move around Dillon, Hessert would have to protect fifth from nine-time ARCA champion Frank Kimmel. Despite being unable to pass point’s leader Dillon, Hessert was able to keep Kimmel at bay and take the checkered flag in fifth, recording his sixth top-five finish of the season.

Tom Hessert III

“This team never gave up,” said Hessert after the race. “We were awful tight in practice, still tight in qualifying and even during the race. We kept working on it all day and all night and I had to drive my heart out to get up there into the top-five. Madison is an extremely difficult track to pass on and it showed during the race. While a win is what we came to accomplish, under the circumstances we faced, we’ll take this and head back to the dirt and see if we can’t complete the puzzle there.”

Completing the puzzle consists of Hessert bettering his runner-up finish earlier this month at Springfield which would have put him in victory lane for the second time in his career.

“I’m always thrilled to go back to the dirt. I think you’re going to have to battle Chad (McCumbee), Frank (Kimmel) and the likes of Josh (Richards), but I feel we have a good of a shot as anyone to celebrate in victory lane on Labor Day.”

Hessert’s sixth top-five of the year and 12th top-10 overall has him detached from McCumbee whom he entered Madison tied for fifth in the championship standings. With four races remaining, Hessert solely controls the spot at 3,450 points. 165 points separates the former USARacing Pro Cup Series star from fourth in the championship standings hoisted by Grant Enfinger.

Hessert will make his fifth start at the one-mile dirt track and look to better his runner-up finish their last year with Cunningham Motorsports.

In addition to Federated Auto Parts, Cherry Hill Classic Cars served as an associate marketing partner for Hessert’s 79th career ARCA start. In those outings, he has maneuvered one win, 18 top-fives and 42 top-10s.

And with the ARS returning to Madison International Speedway (MIS) for the first time in 1973, the team was hoping a recent private test session would aid to their benefit towards collecting their first career victory of the season.

Enfinger, driver of the No. 36 Hoosier Tire Midwest / racetires.com Dodge Charger under the direction of crew chief Kelly Kovski returned to the tricky half-mile oval after a promising test session a few weeks prior to the 15th race of the season had the Springfield, Illinois-based team hoping what they had learned would pay off when practice started Friday afternoon.

Realistically, it looked like the testing session paid off for the Fairhope, Alabama native as he clocked in the 10th fastest time overall in the lone practice session of the day. Consulting with Kovski upon climbing from his racecar, the two confirmed that they felt their No. 36 Hoosier Tire Midwest / racetires.com Dodge Charger still had speed in it and would have to show it in qualifying.

No. 36 Hoosier Tire Midwest / racetires.com Dodge Charger

Time trials indeed did see Enfinger and his team raise the bar as their Dodge Charger picked up over two-tenths of a second from their quickest lap in practice just a few hours earlier, good enough for eighth on the starting grid.

Confident with the car’s stability, the Allgaier Motorsports team shifted their focus towards the green flag with the hopes that Enfinger would be able to carefully maneuver his black and blue automobile into contention for the team’s first victory of the season.

From the drop of the green flag, it was apparent that most of the field was going to play follow the leader in the early stages of the Herr’s Live Life With Flavor! 200. However, the racer that he was, Enfinger was itching to move to the front as by lap six he had climbed his Mike Allgaier-owned machine into sixth.

Close and fierce racing would see Enfinger and fellow short track master Joey Miller duke it out for the sixth spot with Enfinger falling back to seventh by lap 18. When the caution flag waived on lap 30, Enfinger maintained a spot comfortably inside the top-10 reporting to Kovski that his car was okay, but needed some drive off from the center of the corner.

On the restart, Enfinger continued to stalk his prey and by lap 60 had climbed into the sixth position with his eyes set on Miller for fifth. When the caution waived 13 laps from effort, the team elected to bring their driver down to pit road for their mandatory pit stop which included two tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment.

The lighting fast pit stop reassured Enfinger some solid track position, sitting well into the top-10. With a game plan set for the second half of the season, Enfinger and Co. realized that victory could possibly be within reach coming to the halfway mark.

Then, the team’s night took a drastic turn. Just after the restart, the cross member underneath the No. 36 Hoosier Tire Midwest / racetires.com Dodge Charger broke which would throw Enfinger into a completely ill-handling racecar.

From there, Enfinger would find himself shuffled from inside the top-five through pit strategy by his competition to falling just outside of the top-10 after being passed under green flag conditions. Still hoping that a top-10 finish could be reachable.

Grant Enfinger

The team made a bold move on a lap 195 caution to pit for four tires and some fuel, hoping that maybe with some improved rubber; he could blast into the top-10. Sadly, the parts malfunction proved to be too much and not enough laps for Enfinger to strut his stuff as he was forced to take the checkered flag in the 14th position, the final car on the lead lap.

“Well, that didn’t turn out as I expected,” said Enfinger. “We had a pretty solid car tonight and we were making some serious gains after the first pit stop and then we had a problem with the cross member and our tight was a battle within a battle for the race of the race. If there’s a positive, we finished the race stayed on the lead lap. I sure though would have liked to been racing those cars at the front, because I think we may have had something for them.”

Kovski, also frustrated by the team’s eventual outcome said, “Grant is a hell of a wheelman. He can do things with racecars that most drivers wouldn’t be able to do. Despite the problem, we were still able to see the finish and the car is relatively good shape. We’re looking forward to these next couple of races; we have some surprises in store for the competition.”

Friday’s result kept a solid season alive where the team has yet to finish worse than 14th on two occasions (Michigan International Speedway and Madison International Speedway) while still claiming five top-fives and 11 top-10 finishes to their credit. The team has completed all but 11 laps (2055 / 2066) possible after 15 races.

With four races remaining, Enfinger sits fourth in the championship standings unleashing himself from Chris Buescher, whom he was tied with entering Madison International Speedway. Just 50 markers separate Enfinger from reclaiming a podium position in the championship standings.

Enfinger will look to prove on his inaugural ARCA debut on the dirt at the Illinois State Fairgrounds earlier this month where he claimed an 12th place finish.

Exiting Madison, Enfinger has 33 ARCA Racing Series starts to his credit. In those events, he has maneuvered 12 top-fives and 21 top-10 finishes including a career-best finish of second three times at Kentucky Speedway (July 2009), Chicagoland Speedway (August 2009), and Toledo Speedway (May 2011). He has controlled the field nine times for 216 laps. His best qualifying run occurred at Berlin (Mich.) Raceway where Enfinger bolted to his first career pole.

“Tony Marks Racing Development Driver Keeping Presence Alive”

OREGON, Wisconsin (August 29, 2011) – - After forging the most recent ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards event at the Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield) on August 21st, the team returned to action in the series’ return to Madison International Speedway (MIS) for the running of the Herr’s Live Life With Flavor! 200

With Tony Marks Racing (TMR) development driver Jared Marks taking the temporary reins of the No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger for the 15th race of the season, the Napoleon, Ohio native wasn’t really sure what to expect when arrived at the half-mile oval. Unable to make the trip to Wisconsin to test at MIS, the TMR team did however partake in a private test at a North Carolina to shake down their automobile.

No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger

Feeling confident about the setup underneath him, Marks entered the open practice session on Friday afternoon with optimism. During the hour and a half practice session, the 17-year old under the direction of crew chief Ryan Chism was able to muster a respectable 15th place in the overall rundown. Marks informed his crew chief that his No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger was tight throughout the race track.

After making some adjustments to their automobile before qualifying, the team turned their faith over to their rookie to deliver a strong lap that would keep them out of the “eye of the storm.” During his two laps of time trials, Marks maneuvered a fast lap of 18.677 seconds or 96.375 miles per hour. The effort was a solid pick-up by the avid Late Model racer from practice just a few hours prior.

Ironically, after all said and done, Marks would line up 12th in his No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger – maybe giving an early sign that the team was going to have a good night.

With the engines fired and the green flag waiving shortly after 8:30 p.m., it didn’t take long for the action to get fierce. Struggling with the handling of his automobile during the first couple laps, he slipped back to 16th by lap four and remained there when the yellow flag waived on lap six.

Restarting safely in the top-20, Marks would continue to hold steady on the track until another yellow caution waived on lap 17 where Chism opted to bring his driver to pit road and make some air pressure adjustment. Nine laps later, racing resumed with Marks settling in 18th. The High School student was able to make up a few spots on the track until the yellow flag waived on lap 30 which offered another opportunity for Chism to bring his protégé to pit road for four tires, a wedge adjustment and fuel.

When racing resumed, Marks placed 22nd but quickly moved into the 20th position four laps later. Continuing to inch up the ladder, Marks had moved up into the 12th position before an incident with the No. 23 and the No. 12 would ultimately force the field to come to a freeze.

With some of his competitors opting to duck down on pit road, Marks would restart in the 10th position on lap 68 but gave way to a hungry pack of competitors on fresher rubber to hunker in 15th by lap 75.

Able to hustle his way up to 13th by lap 82 where he settled in until the caution waived on lap 87. Under the slower pace, Marks informed his team that his car was good.

With much of the field pitting ahead of him, Marks would jump to third for a lap 92 restart. Despite having older tires than his competitors, the racer wasn’t willing to go down without a fight as tight racing saw Marks keep his car inside the top-five before eventually slipping back to eighth by lap 98.

Just after the halfway mark, Marks found himself in the 13th position waiting for the yellow to waive again so a trip to pit road could be executed. Despite a caution waiving on lap 108, Chism kept his driver out there informing his pilot he needed to stay out on the track a little longer before he could bring him back to pit road. The driver acknowledged but informed him that the No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger was loose off.

Hovering comfortably in the top-15 until a yellow waived on lap 30, Chism thought this was the perfect time to bring the No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger to pit road for four scuff tires and fuel.

Restarting in 15th, the used rubber proved to be better than what he had on before which showed with his lap times and the attack on his competitors. Inside the final 50 circuits, Marks was able to work his to seventh only to be trapped on the race track by the No. 63 which was a lapped car easily opened the door and allowed seven competitors to overtake him.

Extremely frustrated that he fell back to 14th, Marks wasn’t willing to give up. After duking it out with Ron Cox (No. 28) and Grant Enfinger (No. 36) over the course of the final 30 laps, Marks was able to take the checkered flag in 12th. It was Marks’ fourth top-13 place finish in five races this season.

Jared Marks

“Our No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger was pretty good for most of the night. The car wasn’t taking to the track earlier, but we kept working on it all throughout the night and we were able to find ourselves in the top-10,” explained Marks. “Milka (Duno) happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and it cost us dearly. From there we didn’t have a lot of time to recover but we did finish 12th, so I guess I can’t complain about that too much. I still have a couple chances to bring home a top-10 finish for Tony Marks Racing, so I hope I can do that before seasons end.”

For owner and father Marks, he was incredibly pleased with the effort shown by the entire team this weekend. “We came to a completely new track to us and didn’t really know what to expect and we were competitive. We didn’t have the brakes go our way when we needed them to, but Jared and all the guys on pit road did their job and we were able to bring the car home in 12th. We’ll take that. I not only want to thank my guys, but everyone else who makes this team possible.”

Tony Marks Racing plans to return to competition next month when the ARCA Racing Series takes on brutal Salem (Ind.) Speedway for the next to last short track race of the season, The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic by Federated Car Care. Earlier this season, Maryeve Dufault reeled in a respectable 13th place finish after starting 19th.

Reuniting with Win-Tron Racing otherwise known as “County Joe Racing” back in his driving days, the five-time ARCA winner was exhilarated to have the opportunity to drive the No. 32 Champion Brands / Win-Tron Racing Dodge Charger in the 15th race of the season.

Knowing that Miller’s prior experience at Madison quickly tapped him as a pre-race favorite, the 26-year old though would have to maneuver his way through a talented crop of drivers and teams.

With crew chief Mike Chaffee at the helm and co-car owner Nate Thiesse present, Miller climbed into his Chrysler nameplate on Friday afternoon to participate in the lone practice session of the day. During the hour and a half session, Miller was able to overcome an innocent spin on the track to maneuver the 13th fastest lap, just four tenths of a second off the quickest lap tabulated by Chris Buescher.

No. 32 Champion Brands / Win-Tron Racing Dodge Charger

“The car is pretty good,” said Miller, who also has starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for Darrell Waltrip Motorsports. “I was trying too hard and driving it way deep and the car came around on me. I will tell you one thing though; these cars are nothing like the Late Models I’ve driven around Madison. There’s a huge difference with the weight and all, so you cannot drive the track like you’re in a Late Model.”

In qualifying, Miller climbed up on the wheel and hustled his No. Champion Brands / Win-Tron Racing Dodge Charger to fifth quickest. How tight was it? Well, the top-five cars were separated by less than one-tenths of a second.

The 33-car field took the green flag shortly after 8:30 p.m. with Miller maintaining his point inside the top-five. Pressure from Spencer Gallagher and Springfield winner Chad McCumbee would keep the former ARCA Rookie of the Year on his toes in the early stages of the event.

Knowing that track position was critical to success and passing a car cleanly was almost impossible, Miller settled into a comfort zone despite losing some positions on the track. Slipping one spot to sixth by lap six, Miller would hover in the top-half dozen and report to Chaffee that he could not get his automobile to rotate through the turns like he wanted.

With the team planning to make a change during their mandated pit stop, Miller would continue to fight hard on the track. Surging to fifth by lap 60, the team’s opportunity to change tires, add fuel and make a chassis adjustment occurred on lap 87 when the yellow was waived.

Restarting the race in ninth, Miller was hoping to utilize the new rubber to climb back into the top-five approaching the half-way mark. However, the former ASA standout would find himself stalled in a wad of race cars which kept him ninth in the overall rundown.

Slowly but surely Miller would trek his way into seventh by lap 132 where he stood until a shuffle with the lead pack under a yellow flag saw the No. 32 vault to third for a lap 162 restart. Unfortunately, Miller’s fight for his sixth career victory would be dashed when he spun on lap 166.

Despite minimal damage to his machine, Miller would still have to bring it to the aid of his Win-Tron Racing team where they surveyed the car and changed right side tires before sending their protégé back into battle.

Joey Miller

Restarting 11th on lap 169, it would take less than six laps for Miller to re-enter the top-10 as he had climbed to ninth by lap 176. During the race’s final 25 laps, Miller was able to climb into eighth and fend off Tim George Jr. and McCumbee coming to the checkered flag to collect his 20th top-10 in his ARCA career.

“I had a lot of fun out there, but I just couldn’t get our car hooked up to the track like I needed to,” offered Miller. “It’s incredibly hard to pass and I think everyone saw that during the race. For a second, I thought maybe we would have a shot at the win on that late restart but after spinning out, I was just determined to put the No. 32 Champion Brands / Win-Tron Racing Dodge Charger somewhere back inside the top-10.

We were able to get back to seventh but ran out of laps. I cannot begin to tell you how thankful and appreciative I was for the opportunity to come back to the ARCA Racing Series with Win-Tron Racing. I wish we would have had a little better showing, but maybe we’ll get a chance to work on that sometime in the near future.”

For Thiesse, he was impressed with Miller’s day considering all the circumstances. “We asked Joey to come in at the 11th hour to run Madison and he did an exceptional job for us. The competition in ARCA has changed immensely since he last ran four years ago, so to climb back behind the wheel and be as competitive as he was just showed everyone that he still has the ability to get the job done.”

Miller made his 31st career start in the 15th race of the 2011 ARCA season. In those starts, he has achieved six poles, five wins, 13 top-fives and 20 top-10 efforts. He also has controlled the ARCA field for 1,013 laps over the course of four seasons (2004 – 2007).

For Chad Hackenbracht and his CGH Motorsports team, the Herr’s Live Life With Flavor! 200 is one race they aren’t afraid to leave in the rearview mirror.

For the 13th consecutive race, Hackenbracht under the guidance of crew chief Kevin Reed unloaded with a fast and competitive No. 58 Hampton Farms / Copps Market Chevrolet Impala. Despite never seeing the half-mile oval before arriving at the Oregon, Wisconsin-based race track on Thursday afternoon, the New Philadelphia, Ohio native entered the 15th race of the season with optimism and realistic goals.

During the short hour-and-half practice session Friday afternoon, the 19-year old impressively racked up the sixth quickest time overall which was inspiring since the Mooresville, North Carolina-based team opted not to test. After Hackenbracht and Reed consulted, the only massive change done to their automobile leading into qualifying was a gear change hoping it would dish out even more speed.

In time trials, Hackenbracht maneuvered a lap of 18.564 seconds at 96.962 miles per hour landing the freshman organization ninth overall and a tick quicker than their fastest lap in practice two hours prior.

After conferring with spotter and former ARCA driver Rich Woodland before the start of the Herr’s Live Life With Flavor! 200, Hackenbracht participated in a one-hour autograph session before strapping into his No. 58 Hampton Farms / Copps Market Chevrolet Impala armed for combat.

It was evident from the drop of the green flag that not only track position would be crucial but patience would be vital to a successful night at one of the most demanding short tracks on the ARCA schedule.

Chad Hackenbracht

By lap six, Hackenbracht had climbed to eighth in the footsteps of Grant Enfinger and Joey Miller. Several yellow flags within the event’s first 30 circuits would keep No. 58 Hampton Farms / Copps Market Chevrolet Impala at bay but holding steady inside the top-10.

Electing to utilize some pit strategy, Reed brought his driver to pit road for their required stop just after the one quarter mark where tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment were on deck for the rising star.

Slipping from eighth to 14th for the restart, it didn’t take long for the Cornelius, North Carolina resident to thunder his way back into the top-10. By lap 60, Hackenbracht had reeled himself back into eighth while continuing to gain on the cars ahead of him.

Trapped in-between a heavy wad of cars and nowhere to go, Hackenbracht would wait for another yellow flag on lap 87 in order to make a significant climb on the leaderboard as the other lead-lap vehicles in front of him chose to make their mandated pit stop.

The green flag returned on lap 91 with the No. 58 Hampton Farms / Copps Market Chevrolet Impala in second and on the heels of Springfield winner Chad McCumbee. Hackenbracht would remain in the runner-up position until a prearranged slam from the No. 31 of Tim George Jr. sent Hackenbracht to the high line in turn two and slipping back to fourth.

By lap 100, the former Legends Car champion remained inside the top-five. Eight laps later though, Hackenbracht would be gobbled up by his other competitors on fresh rubber shuffling him back to the eighth position.

Settling in, Hackenbracht was prepared to “ride out the storm” before working out a plan with Reed for a late-race surge. Unfortunately, the team’s night took a dramatic turn beginning on lap 114 when contact from the No. 32 of Joey Miller just after a restart sent the No. 58 around into turn one which resulted in right side damage which required immediate attention by the CGH posse.

A gallant effort to completely repair the car under the yellow flag would come up short as the field quickly returned to action. When the popular driver returning to the racecourse one lap in the arrears, the team was hoping to become the beneficiary of the “Lucky Dog”, which would put the team back on the lead lap and back in contention.

Unbeknownst to the team, they didn’t expect to be the next caution as eight laps after the restart, Hackenbracht’s motor seized entering turn one forcing the driver to abruptly make a left hand turn towards pit road where his car came to rest upon the access road.

Ultimately, the yellow flag would have to be waived in order to tow the No. 58 Hampton Farms / Copps Market Chevrolet Impala into the infield. Obviously, a dejected Hackenbracht climbed out of his Chevrolet bowtie and put a period to his night at Madison International Speedway.

When the checkered flag was thrown, the team would be credited with a disheartening 23rd place finish.

No. 58 Hampton Farms / Copps Market Chevrolet Impala

“Our No. 58 Hampton Farms / Copps Market Chevrolet Impala was good,” offered Hackenbracht after the race in the garage area. “It changed a little from practice in the day, I wasn’t expecting that – but Kevin (Reed) made a call and it seemed to be coming back around to the way it was before our night took that drastic turn.

We all were bunched up there on the restart and the No. 31 just stopped and I got hit from behind which sent me around. The spin could have easily been prevented; I guess that’s just the way it goes. The guys fixed the car and I thought we were going to be okay but then the motor blew, ultimately because of it being spun backwards in the initial spin. I hate it for Hampton Farms, Copps Markets, our guests and everyone on the CGH Motorsports team. I was hoping to have just a good solid night, but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.”

Reed offered his thoughts on his driver’s debut at Madison. “As always, Chad did his job behind the wheel. The car was good and we were going to be contending for a top-five but it just didn’t work out that way. We can’t dwell on here, we just need to pick up the pieces and head to DuQuoin.”

The team’s worst finish in nine races and only the second time the organization has finished outside the top-20 in 2011 keeps Hackenbracht unofficially eighth in the championship standings after 15 races. The team’s goal of finishing inside the top-five is still obtainable with just four races remaining.

In his ARCA dirt debut earlier this month at the Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield), Hackenbracht reeled in a 10th place finish outing.

Forty-five year old Joe Cooksey of Centralia, Illinois has been preparing for his return to the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menard’s for several months. A self professed lover of the one mile Illinois fairground dirt tracks Cooksey one remarked ‘as long as I have a nickel in my pocket I will be there”. Unfortunately time constraints with business have limited Cooksey’s appearances in the ARCA series and he missed the 2007, 2008 and 2010 races. However, Cooksey became the first Southern Illinois driver to set on the pole when he set fast time for the 2000 race. He has 11 top 10 finishes in 12 starts at DuQuoin, completed 1207 miles at DuQuoin and been running at the end of each of those 12 starts.

Joining Cooksey and perhaps hoping to learn from the veteran is sixteen year old Austin Rettig of Sikeston, Missouri. Rettig has been racing area short tracks such as Maiden, Missouri, Riverside Speedway in Arkansas, Clarksville, in Tennessee and West Plains in Missouri. His racing resume includes late model stock cars with the MARS series and he won his first ever Comp Cams series event at Riverside this April.

Austin began racing at the age of 13 and is following in the footsteps of his older brother Nathan who was lost in a tragic 4 wheeler accident at the age of 13 while pursuing a promising racing career himself. His victory at Riverside ironically came 7 years to the date after Nathan’s passing.

The 59th Federated Auto Parts-Southern Illinois 100 is slated for 1 p,m, on Labor Day at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

Unzicker, a native of El Paso, Illinois has reunited with Hendren Motorsports, the same ARCA team he paired with in 2003 at the tender age of 23 for three events which included the races of the Illinois State Fairgrounds, the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds and Salem (Ind.) Speedway respectively.

Now, 30 and considered one of the finest dirt racers in the Mid-West, Unzicker returns to ARCA competition ready to better his career best finish of sixth which came in his ARCA debut at Springfield after starting 20th.

“I’m just thankful for the opportunity to come back and race in the ARCA Racing Series with Hendren Motorsports,” said Unzicker. “It means a lot after so many years to get the call to come and race for them again. I know they (Hendren Motorsports) enjoy competing at these dirt tracks and I’ve been blessed with a strong season in our UMP Late Model, so hopefully we can bring that luck over to ARCA.”

He added, “I know a lot has changed over the years in ARCA,” Unzicker explained. “I’ve tried and keep up with the series as best as I can over the years and I know I’m in for a little bit of a crash course when I get climb into the car on Sunday, but I cannot tell you how excited I am to race.”

Unzicker will pilot the No. 15 RJR Transportation Chevrolet Impala in the first of two confirmed races with Hendren Motorsports this season. Following Springfield, the duo plans to return to the circuit a few weeks later for the traditional Labor Day treat at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

“Springfield will always be special to me, because it was the place I made my ARCA debut,” Unzicker sounded. “I know, much like it is in dirt, the schedule is very hectic and quick, but I like the pace. Hopefully we can unload out of the trailer decent and gain the speed we’re wanting and just have a good finish.

I would love to say we have a shot to come out and win the Allen Crowe 100 on Sunday, but I know the bunch at Hendren Motorsports would be satisfied with a strong run and the car in one piece. I know their equipment is capable of running up front and I have the confidence in myself to get the job done, we just need the dots to connect to make it happen.”

With over 10 wins thus far in 2011, Unzicker will look to pull off a triple-weekend sweep after competing in a DIRTcar Late Model National race on Friday and Saturday night. After tackling Farmercity, Illinois on August 19, he’ll try and master Peoria, Illinois the following night before making the trek to Springfield.

“It’s always tough pulling triple duty, especially when you’re hopping from one type of car to another,” Unzicker explained. “But, I’m used to racing several times a week, so I’m not really worried. I just want to make sure that I’m completely focused when the green flag drops on Sunday, because I want to everyone to know how strong and competitive the Hendren Motorsports team really is.”

The Allen Crowe 100 (100 laps / 100 miles) is the 14th of 19 events on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 29th ARCA event held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds is a one-day show. Practice begins Sunday, August 21 with a one hour practice session planned from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. The field will take the green flag Sunday afternoon shortly after 1:00 p.m. The event will not be televised but race coverage including live timing and scoring throughout the 1,326th race for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards since it was formed in 1953 will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com presented by ARCANation.com. All times are local.

The organization is also delighted to welcome Mike’s Hard Lemonade to their 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) program. The 2010 Canadian Racer of the Year will pilot the No. 32 Mike’s Hard Lemonade Chevrolet Silverado in a multi-race deal and is scheduled to make his NCWTS debut at Texas Motor Speedway in June.

Arpin, a native of Fort Frances, Ontario Canada, got his start racing go-karts. He went on to become a force on dirt, winning modified features and championships throughout Canada and the United States. He made his ARCA Racing Series debut in 2009, finishing seventh in the championship point standings while earning the Most Popular Driver award. Continuing to race in the ARCA Racing Series in 2010, he recorded three victories (Salem Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, DuQuoin State Fairgrounds), seven top-five and ten top-10 finishes and another Most Popular Driver award. That same year, Arpin made his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut at Talladega Superspeedway, where he qualified fourth and finished 26th. He made six more NNS starts that season, with his best finish of 10th coming at Daytona International Speedway.

Arpin’s first race with Turner Motorsports will be in June at Texas Motor Speedway, the site of his second ARCA Racing Series victory in 2010. Additionally, Arpin will pilot the No. 32 Mike’s Hard Lemonade Chevrolet Silverado at Kentucky Speedway, Iowa Speedway, Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis and Chicagoland Speedway.

Arpin is excited to be joining Turner Motorsports and realizes the magnitude of having such a great opportunity.

“I’m thrilled to be continuing my relationship with Mike’s Hard Lemonade as I make my NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut with Turner Motorsports,” Arpin said. “Mr. Turner’s dedication to up-and-coming drivers in the sport has been key to making this possible. I want to thank Mr. Turner and Mike’s Hard Lemonade for this awesome opportunity.”

Mike’s Hard Lemonade and Arpin will continue the relationship they have built in recent years as they progress into the NCWTS ranks. In 2010, the pair partnered for 14 events in the ARCA Racing Series, with Arpin scoring three wins, six top-five and eight top-10 finishes with the organization.

“We had a great time with Steve last year in the ARCA Series,” Mike’s Hard Lemonade Central Region Vice President of Sales Paul Jacobus said. “His laid back approach to life fits our brand identity. We look forward to helping him further his career, while also introducing our brand to the NASCAR fan base.”

“We are proud to welcome Steve Arpin and Mike’s Hard Lemonade to the team,” said Turner Motorsports owner Steve Turner. “Steve is clearly a very talented driver as he has demonstrated his abilities in different forms and levels of racing over his career. I enjoy giving up-and-coming drivers like Steve an opportunity to learn and succeed, and I have no doubt that he will prove himself as a true talent in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.”

As such, July 2011 will provide back-to-back showdowns under the lights, as race dates for Berlin (Mich.) Raceway and Iowa Speedway were announced today.

Twenty-three ARCA Racing Series races have been contested on Berlin Raceway’s 0.4-mile oval since its first ARCA event in 1958, and the 24th will take place Saturday, July 9.

“Berlin Raceway is unlike any of the short tracks we go to in terms of its unique layout and pit road,” said Ron Drager, president of ARCA. “It’s been a staple of the tour for a number of years, and it seems that everyone from local guys like 2002 winner Fred Campbell to multi-time champions like three-time winner Frank Kimmel has a chance to be successful.”

Joey Coulter won at the Marne, Mich. oval, near Grand Rapids, in August for his first victory in the ARCA Racing Series.

The 0.875-mile Iowa Speedway is scheduled as the next stop on the ARCA Racing Series tour, and will host its sixth ARCA event since 2006 just seven days later, on Saturday, July 16.

“Racing at Iowa Speedway is important from a market and venue perspective, as we reach a number of fans from several major areas there,” Drager said. “Being new, Iowa Speedway is one of those tracks that has the luxury of incorporating so many amenities – sightlines and facilities among them – to be fan-friendly and competitor-friendly. Iowa Speedway fans have strongly supported ARCA.”

Tom Hessert drove to his first ARCA Racing Series victory in July at the Newton track, located just east of Des Moines.

The following race dates for the 2011 ARCA Racing Series schedule have already been announced:

February 12 – Daytona International Speedway

April 15 – Talladega Superspeedway

May 1 – Salem Speedway

June 4 – Chicagoland Speedway

June 11 – Pocono Raceway

June 17 – Michigan International Speedway

June 25 – Winchester Speedway

August 6 – Pocono Raceway

August 21 – Illinois State Fairgrounds

September 5 – DuQuoin State Fairgrounds

September 17 – Salem Speedway

October 7 – Kansas Speedway

The remainder of the schedule will be released shortly. Meanwhile, the thrilling 2010 campaign will close Saturday, December 4, with the series’ Championship Awards Banquet at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Ky., near Cincinnati.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 28 states since its inception. The series tests the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, annually visiting tracks ranging from 0.4 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as left- and right-turn street and road courses.

Founded by John Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Closing in on completing its sixth decade after hundreds of thousands of miles of racing, ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in two professional touring series and local weekly events.

Returning to the dirt for the second time in three weeks, Win-Tron Racing and Justin Marks unloaded early Monday morning at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in preparation for a one-day show, concluding with the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care.

Bad luck mired the team’s last visit to a dirt track at Springfield, where a 22nd place finish didn’t show the true performance of the solid No. 32 Construct Corps Dodge that day. Carrying momentum from a sixth place finish last weekend at Chicagoland, along with dirt racing fresh in their memory banks, the team had prepped a stout Dodge Charger to take on 100 laps on the one-mile clay oval.

Early trouble showed up in the one-hour ARCA Racing Series practice session Monday morning when Marks discovered a malfunctioning throttle in his Construct Corps machine. Spending nearly the rest of the 60 minutes behind the wall making repairs, the Win-Tron crew remedied the throttle problem and sent Justin back onto the track for just a few more laps before discovering a broken clutch in the No. 32.

With a very short turnaround time between the lone practice session of the weekend and Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell forced Win-Tron and Marks to take a provisional starting spot for the afternoon’s event. Starting shotgun on the field wasn’t what the team had hoped for, but was necessary to complete all the changes on the car.
Marks wasted no time at the drop of the green flag and began picking his way through the field quickly, breaking into the top 20 before lap 10. Opting to stay out under a caution period on lap 22, Marks moved up into the top ten where he rode comfortably until making his first pit stop of the day just eight laps later under the third caution of the afternoon. Traffic proved to be an issue as the day wore on, with the track losing grip and gaining dust as the laps clicked off.

A restart after the sixth caution flag of the day on lap 65 ended in Justin going for a spin in the Construct Corps Charger after sliding through some oil in turn one. With no damage sustained in the incident, Marks pitted for four fresh Hoosiers and enough Sunoco fuel to take him to the finish.

Restarting back in 21st after the spin, Marks once again threaded his way through traffic avoiding several obstacles while wrestling with tough track conditions, and eventually, a spark plug failure in the No.32. The field would see the yellow flag displayed five more times before the checkered flag finally flew, finding Marks in the 12th position after the dust would settle.

“It was a tough day for our team,” Justin Marks commented. “We had a lot of mechanical issues throughout practice that pretty much took all of the laps and set-up time away. We were able to get everything fixed for the race and I just tried to move through the field slowly and steadily. We ran in the top-10 for a while, but near the end of the race the motor started missing a little so it was just pretty much an exercise in survival. A frustrating day but the guys worked hard to overcome the adversity and everyone did a great job.”

The 12th place finish didn’t help Marks gain ground on the new ARCA Racing Series championship point leaders Patrick Sheltra and Tom Hessert, he’s still not out of the hunt- now 200 points behind in seventh. Marks and company will travel to Toledo Speedway this Sunday, September 12th for the Northwest Ohio Ford Dealers 200. The series last visited the Ohio short track in May, when a solid top-five run ended abruptly in the form of a cut tire on the Construct Corps Dodge with five laps remaining. Win-Tron Racing and Marks are prepared for the 200-mile short-track shootout and look to back up another good run with a solid finish this time around.

This time it was on the dirt in the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

“We had a great race car all through practice and qualifying, but I was a little nervous the handling would go away early in the race,” said an elated Arpin. “Billy (Venturini) and Kevin (Caldwell) did a great job of reassuring me that we were in good shape…that we may need to work on it, but we had plenty of adjustability built into the car…that’d we’d be fine once things got going.”

Arpin’s win also marked the first dirt track victory for his Venturini Motorsports team.

“It was a great day for Venturini Motorsports,” said team manager Billy Venturini. “We have a long and pretty honorable history in this series, and it was great to finally get a win here on the dirt. We’ve won just about everywhere else, and had some great dirt drivers. We spent a lot of time with Mark Richards and Rocket Chassis, and he helped us quite a bit with some knowledge in the dirt program. When we came here we were going to be the team to beat and our driver did a
great job.”

The mike’s hard lemonade Chevrolet was one of the first cars to qualify and posted the fourth fastest time for the 100-lap event. Once the green flag waved, Arpin patiently planned his attack, being sure to save his tires yet maintain that all-important track position.

While a little tight from the get-go, Arpin and his No. 55 Venturini crew took advantage of the numerous caution periods to make subtle adjustments to his machine. During one of the 11 cautions, the No. 55 came to pit road directly behind the leader. Unfortunately, most of the other competitors who came to pit road took only two tires while
others opted to stay out. Arpin would have to restart in 19th…but that’s when the real excitement began.

The Canadian-native vigilantly raced his way through the field making it back into the top-five by the midway point. With the leader (Tom Hessert) clearly within his sights, Arpin determined that by adjusting his lines he could make up ground where he was being beaten. His vast dirt experience was unmistakable as Arpin shot to the lead by lap 61.
Even having to display extreme patience battling with lapped traffic, Arpin never looked back once he got to the front!

“It was a hard fought win,” explained Arpin. “There were five more cautions after we got the lead…that put the field back on our bumper each time. But we were able to gain a 15 to 20 car-length advantage after each restart and then just settle in and save our equipment for the end. Mark Richards of Rocket Chassis (dirt late model chassis
manufacturer) was also a great help in our dirt efforts and really improved our program with his experience and expertise.”

Arpin went on to win by six-tenths of a second after a green / white / checker finish.

The next event on the ARCA calendar will take the tour to Toledo (Ohio) Speedway for the Northwest Ohio Ford Dealers 200 Sunday afternoon, September 12th.

After finishes of 21st, 20th and 22nd, Marks and company welcomed the solid finish and a non-damaged Construct Corps Toyota at the end of the Ansell Protective Gloves 150 Friday evening.

The Rocklin, California native and his team took the opportunity to travel to Chicagoland Speedway a little more than a week prior to the main event at the 1.5-mile event for an open test session that allowed the team to harvest some valuable information and setup improvements. The first practice session on Thursday afternoon proved to be a little more challenging than the No. 32 team had hoped; though Justin was able to lay down the fifth fastest practice time of the session, he reported his Construct Corps Camry was a little too loose for his liking. Yet another obstacle was thrown in the team’s path following practice, when an engine issue was discovered just before the ARCA Racing Series garage was set to close for the night.

An early morning decision to swap the original Toyota powerhouse put the Win-Tron Crew to work under the hood, thrashing to get the car prepared before the final practice session. Putting all hands on deck, the team was able to make a complete engine change in just under an hour, still allowing Justin enough time to hit the track for the final 30 minutes of practice.

During the two short runs he was able to complete in happy hour with the new motor, Marks reported the loose condition hadn’t gone away, but the new motor was making good power as the laps ticked off. Just over two short hours later, Marks was back out on the track for qualifying, laying down a lap time of 30.617 seconds, good enough for the fifth starting spot.

Wasting no time at the drop of the green, Marks moved his way up to the third position within the first five laps and continued to hang tight within the top five before the first caution flag on lap 33 presented the team with an opportunity to come down pit road. Crew chief Mike Chaffee called for four tires and a chassis adjustment to remedy a continued loose handling condition in the Construct Corps Camry, and a quick stop by the team sent Justin back out in the fourth spot.

Another scare came for the team on lap 50, as Marks radioed to his crew a change in the tune of the motor, and a lower oil pressure number than he had started with. Staying calm behind the wheel, Justin soldiered on with some encouragement from his spotter and crew chief over the radio and held his position in the top five. Concern for the engine soon passed as Justin reported no changes for the worse, and he pulled down pit road under the next caution flag on lap 60 for four more Hoosiers and another chassis adjustment.

Unable to remedy the loose handling condition in the Construct Corps Toyota all evening, Justin’s driving skills were put to the test as he continued to report the difficult driving conditions he faced exiting each corner. Choosing to stay out during the second to last caution of the evening for some track position with 25 laps remaining, Justin restarted in fifth and held on to all but one position to slide home in the sixth spot.

Justin Marks

“It was a solid day thought it wasn’t exactly what we’d hoped for after the run we had with this car at Texas,” Marks commented after 100 laps of work. “It was sort of a messy race for me, but I was pretty happy to get a good solid top ten finish, which we haven’t had in almost a month. Hopefully we can start getting back on track now.”

The next challenge for the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards comes in the form of the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care at DuQuoin State Fairgrounds on Labor Day. Marks heads into the one mile dirt track 145 points behind new championship points leader Craig Goess, looking to improve from his last non-pavement performance two weeks ago at Springfield with the mud-slinging style fresh on his mind.

They laid down the ninth fastest time in final practice and qualified in the 14th starting position for Friday night’s race. Right from the start the No.36 Dodge Charger shot towards the front and passed two cars in the first corner. The caution flag first flew around 10 laps into the race with Brent already up to the seventh position, and he would restart fifth after a few cars made early pit stops.

The following green flag run found the Orchard Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram machine battling with the leader and swapping positions inside the top 5. “We had a really fast car in the beginning of the race especially off of turn two,” Brent said. The next yellow came out and the leaders all decided to pit except for the No.36. After leading ten laps under yellow, crew chief Dave Leiner calculated they had made it into their fuel window for one stop and brought the car down pit road for four fresh Hoosier tires and a tank of Sunoco fuel. With a small adjustment to tighten up the car driving center off the corner, the Shelby Township, Michigan driver was back on the track and focused to take it back to the front.

Restarting around 15th on the track, Brent maneuvered his way to the top ten quickly and found himself in eighth spot when another caution was thrown. The next few laps would change the race dramatically for the team after the restart when Brent radioed that he may be feeling a vibration in the car. He stayed out trying to ride out the problem until the next yellow. Shortly after the alarm, however, the right rear tire blew out of turn two and the rear end of the car was smashed in the wall. The car was too wrecked to continue driving, so the car was parked with a 24th place finish.

Robb Brent

“This was a disappointing finish to what could have been a great day for our team,” Brent remarked. “I really felt good out there and I think we could have run with the leaders at the end.” The team will repair the car for Kansas Speedway later in the season and head to the dirt track next on Labor Day at DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

Washington Township, Michigan-based Orchard Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram is the primary sponsor on Brent’s No. 36 Dodge Charger. Go to www.orchardcdj.com for more information on new and used cars, parts and service.

Prior to joining Allgaier Motorsports, Brent participated in the ARCA Racing Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driving for NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski and Brad Keselowski Racing (BKR). In his 52 ARCA starts, Brent has acquired six top-five finishes and 17 top-10 efforts. Brent notched his career best qualifying effort of second at Kentucky Speedway in 2008 and best career finish of first at Pocono Raceway in 2010. He has led the ARCA pack three times for 58 laps.

His best finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series occurred at Nashville Superspeedway in his inaugural truck debut where he finished 21st after qualifying 26th. Brent made his NASCAR Nationwide debut at Road America this year for RAB Racing where he started 25th and finished 30th.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards heads to the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds next for the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care on Monday, September 6 at 1:00 PM CT.
