(April 6, 2011)- Just two days after finalizing a partnership to run a limited NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule for Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM), IceOne Racing’s Kimi Raikkonen participated in a two-day test in the team’s Toyota Tundra’s at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson. Ga.

Rick Ren, General Manager Kyle Busch Motorsports:

“Overall the test went really well. We ran about 400 laps total between Monday and Tuesday. Kimi provided good feedback that allowed us to make our Toyota Tundra go faster. He is very methodical with his acceleration, braking and steering and there is no doubt that he has a good feel for a race vehicle. We threw a lot at him over the two days. We made a lot of chassis changes to both the front and rear. Shock adjustments, air pressure adjustments and trackbar adjustments so he could get a good feel for how these adjustments affect the handling of the truck. For being unfamiliar with a truck and unfamiliar with the track, he did an outstanding job. We made both race runs and qualifying runs and there is no doubt that making the truck go fast will not be a problem.”

Kimi Raikkonen:

“It was a lot of fun, I really had no expectations or anything to compare it to beforehand but at the end of the day, I am really looking forward to the first race. It seems like KBM is a top team and I am excited to work with them.”

Today, the 21-time division winner tests with crew chief Frank Kerr and his new team for the first time at the half-mile oval of Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Ga.

“The biggest part for me during this test is communication – - understanding what the team wants from me,” Labonte said. “Building a relationship with my crew chief, engineers and team starts today. I know you have to have chemistry and everybody on the same page working in the same direction for success. You can’t buy confidence. You’ have to build it with your teammates and team members.”

Cohesion separates a good team from a championship contending team. Crew chief Frank Kerr and his JTG Daugherty Racing team are taking advantage of this fundamental test to get to know Labonte.

“You have to have chemistry,” Kerr said. “That’s what separates the good from the great. Bobby is a proven winner and a champion in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series. He will bring a lot of knowledge and confidence along with his leadership ability.

“During this test we want to make sure Bobby is comfortable with the interior of the car and find out what he expects from us,” Kerr continued. “Some of it is about fundamentals. We want to make sure we have his seat in the right location and the pedals are where they need to be. We want to have everything perfect for him as we prepare for 2011.”

Kerr and Labonte may have only spent a small amount of time together, but they both have similar goals for the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

“After JTG Daugherty Racing finished 18th in the points their first year in Cup, I would like to think we can be in a Chase position,” Labonte said. “This year was tough for the team as far as the points go, but it’s nobody’s fault and you can’t point a finger – - it’s just part of it. The resources are there and if we can concentrate and focus hard on it, I definitely think it’s attainable. We just have to do everything right and hold ourselves to that goal.”

“Bobby’s right,” Kerr said. “We are capable and we do have the resources in place. We just had too many DNFs (eight) this year and that really hurt us in the points. A lot of that was out of our control being in the wrong place at the wrong time. We’re starting fresh in 2011 and we will continue to be dedicated and work hard toward a common goal and that’s to be in contention for the Chase.”

Labonte is ready for a fresh start with Kerr and JTG Daugherty Racing as the team enters its third full-time season.

“They have all of the necessary resources along with the Toyota program and Michael Waltrip Racing technical alliance,” Labonte said. “You can see the progress growing with David Reutimann and Martin Truex Jr. week in and week out. I hope my experience will add to the program as I learn from those guys too. I haven’t had that opportunity the past couple of years with teammates. All the tools are there, it’s just how you apply them. The stars are lining up and you’ve just got to make sure you do it right.”

JTG Daugherty Racing, owned by Brad Daugherty, Jodi and Tad Geshickter, are looking forward to what the future holds.

‘We feel like our team has a lot to prove on track and we believe Bobby’s in a place in his career where he has something to prove too,” Daugherty said. “This first test begins a new chapter for JTG Daugherty Racing with Bobby Labonte. I’ve known him for a long time dating back to the 80’s racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and I’m a big fan of his. This test finally gets him in our car so that we can start working toward getting him in victory lane in 2011.”

“As energized and focused as we are to finish the season strong with Marcos, we are equally excited about the beginning of our testing program with Bobby Labonte,” said Geschickter. “The chemistry between driver, crew, and technology is tricky and it’s important for Bobby to get a feel for what we have and how it fits his driving style. We are fortunate to have a head start on the process so we can be at full speed when next season starts.”

(August 25, 2010) – Spraker Racing tapped rookie driver Joey Gase to pilot the No. 37 Spraker Racing Enterprises Chevrolet in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) American Fence Association 150 presented by Mayfield Ice Creamier on Saturday, August 28. This will be the first time the NKNPSE competes at Gresham Motorsports Park (GMP) and will mark Gase’s debut at the half-mile oval.

Gase drove for Spraker Racing in the NKNPSE and ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards races at Iowa Speedway in 2010. In July, he finished 27th in his ARCA Racing Series debut. Gase, who was running just outside the top-10, got caught up in an incident in turn two. In May, the Iowa native kept his car clean in his NASCAR K&N Pro Series debut, starting 22nd and finishing 15th in the stacked 44-car field.

“I am really excited to race at Gresham,” said the 16-year-old racer. “I want to thank Spraker for this great opportunity. I’ve never been to Gresham before, but I think I should be pretty comfortable with it being a half-mile. My local track is a half-mile with a little less banking, so I think we’ll race well. I am just happy to get some more seat-time and hoping to get a solid finish.”

“Joey is a tremendous talent,” explained owner Jeff Spraker. “He did a great job for us at Iowa, and I look forward to him getting back in the car at Gresham.”

Gase will maneuver the No. 37 Spraker Racing Enterprises Chevrolet for his first laps in practice at 11 a.m. EST on Saturday, August 28. Qualifying will be held at 4 p.m. EST. The American Fence Association 150 presented by Mayfield Ice Creamier will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. EST. Coverage of the 75-mile race will be on SPEED Channel on September 2nd at 6 p.m. EST.

GMP officials are reviewing possible dates to reschedule the event and will make an announcement at a later date.

Fans and competitors holding tickets and pit armbands for Saturday’s event will be able to use them for the Saturday, September 18 George Elliott Memorial 100 Presented by Monolith Companies or for the Saturday, October 9 McDonalds Night Featuring Ronald McDonald racing program.

Please make sure you hang on to your ticket stub or pit armband from tonight’s race and just present it at the gate for admission to either the Saturday, September 18 or Saturday, October 9 events.

Next up at Gresham Motorsports Park will be one of the biggest events in the history of the track – the return of NASCAR to the Jefferson, GA half-mile oval.

NASCAR will make its first appearance at the track since 1987 when Larry Pearson won a pair of NASCAR Busch (now Nationwide) Series events. Gresham Motorsports Park opened as Jefco Speedway in 1967 with a NASCAR Sportsman race with ‘Tiger’ Tom Pistone earning the victory.

GMP also hosted the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events in 1968 and 1969 with Cale Yarborough and Bobby Isaac taking the checkered flag.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debuted as the NASCAR Busch North Series in 1987. Since then, the division has been one of NASCAR’s top touring series and today serves as the sanctioning organization’s top driver development series.

Drivers expected to race in the August 28 NKNPSE event at GMP are defending series champion Ryan Truex, Ty Dillon, Ryan Gifford, Darrell Wallace, Jr., Brett Moffitt, Matt Kobyluck, D.J. Shaw and Kevin Swindell.

Also expected to be entered is Georgia’s own Max Gresham, already a two-time winner in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series this season. Gresham will wheel a Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota in the event.

The August 28 NKNPSE race at Gresham Motorsports Park will be the only time the division will compete in Georgia this year.

Joining the K&N Pro Series East division on Saturday, August 28 will be the GMP Trucks, Renegades and Mini-Stocks divisions making it a full night of racing thrills and spills.

Adult Grandstand and Trackside General Admission Tickets are just $20 for this special event. Seniors (55 and older) and Active Military Personnel are $18 while Children 6-12 are $10. Children 5 and under will be admitted free and, as always, parking is free.

The GMP Grandstand and Trackside Parking for the August 28 event will open at 2 p.m. Opening Ceremonies are set for 7 p.m. with the first race taking the green flag at 7:30 p.m. sharp.

Gresham Motorsports Park is located right off I-85 at Exit 140, next to the Jackson County Airport in Jefferson. GA.

On Saturday, the 17-year-old stock car driver went to school at Berlin Raceway.

“I probably learned more about car control in this race than in more than any other race in my career,” said Gresham after finishing 13th in the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) Berlin 200. “We made a decision before the race to go one way with the chassis set-up and we probably should have gone the other direction. In the end, we didn’t get as good of a finish that we had hoped for, but it was still a great learning experience for me and the team.”

Gresham, who won the Tim Richmond Memorial 200 in just his third career ARCA start on July 17, appeared to be a contender for the win at Berlin when he qualified his eighth in the 33-car field with a lap of 17.365 seconds.

At the drop of the green flag, Gresham started a slow slide back in the field thanks to handling problems with his No. 71 Gresham Motorsports Toyota.

Max Gresham

“The car just wouldn’t turn in the middle of the corner,” Gresham stated. “We were just way too tight through the center and on the exit of the corner. We were never able to get any front grip in the car so we were never able to turn the car through the center. It was a handful to drive.”

Gresham was still running 10th when the first yellow flag of the race flew on Lap 54. Deciding to stay out and not pit for fresh tires and a chassis adjustments, Gresham saw his chance of staying in the Top-10 diminish when the race quickly rolled past without another caution for the next 90 laps. By that time, Gresham and his balky racer were two laps down to the leaders.

After a pit stop for service during the second caution of the event on Lap 146, Gresham’s Toyota was solid for the rest of the race eventually coming home 13th at the checkered flag.

“That was the best we had today,” said Gresham. “The team did the best they could and so did I. I think we all learned a lot.”

Gresham will now return to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East ranks on Saturday, August 28 at Gresham Motorsports Park. The event will be the first NASCAR race at the Jefferson, GA raceway since 1987.

(08-02-2010) – Brazilian racer Miguel Paludo was expecting quite a rough battle at Lee USA Speedway. The 125-lap race turned out to be exactly that. Paludo put the No. 77 Stemco Duroline Camry into the top-ten during the race, and after many bumps, bangs and a couple spins, the Porsche GT3 Champion brought his Toyota Camry home in 11th place.

“Lee USA Speedway was a very exciting race for our team. Short track racing is very intense. When the race began, we were running between 11th and 13th. There was a crash in front of us and I banged up the front of our Stemco Duroline Camry by hitting the car in front of me. The whole race was like that. I would gain a few positions, then get hit from behind or bump into something. It was a tough race, but it was very fun and I’m happy we were able to finish 11th in our Hattori Racing Enterprises car,” said Paludo.

Leading into the racing action at Lee, Paludo and his team, led by crew chief Jeff McClure, had two strong practice sessions and a solid qualifying effort earning 13th-place on the starting grid.

“We were very good in practice with old tires. We stayed in the top ten for most of the first practice, and we worked with old tires because we knew the length of the race would not allow us to change tires. We qualified thirteenth, which was good because I could be on the inside line at the start of the race,” said Paludo.

Team owner Shigeaki Hattori said the race was very exciting and felt his team and driver handled the challenge of the 3/8-mile short track very well.

“This race track was very tough. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East starts fewer race cars at Lee than at other race tracks because it is such a short track. There were many, many laps with race cars competing side-by-side. Miguel and Jeff did a really good job figuring out how to setup the Stemco Duroline Camry for the race and they ran competitively in the top-ten. It was a great race for the HRE team, and a good opportunity for Miguel to continue to develop his oval-track skills,” said Hattori, a former NASCAR and IndyCar racer who has built HRE as a team to showcase up and coming driving talent in highly competitive racing equipment.

Looking ahead, Paludo is anxious to get to Gresham.

“I’m confident in our team and I am looking forward to better results at Gresham. Racing in the traffic at Lee, doing the restarts, it is very good preparation for Gresham,” said Paludo. “The guys have worked very hard on our Stemco Duroline Camry. We are all very excited to race at Gresham on August 28th.”

Watch Paludo’s race at Lee USA Speedway on Thursday, August 5th, at 6:00 PM Eastern on SPEED.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East races next at Gresham Motorsports Park on August 28th.

DRIVER: Cole Whitt (No. 84 Red Bull Toyota)

EVENT: NASCAR K&N Pro Series 125 (NASCAR K&N Pro Series East)

DATES: Friday, July 30, 2010

TRACK: Lee USA Speedway, Lee, N.H.

RESULTS: Start 11 / Finish 5

FLYING BLIND

Ever drive a race car? On a short track? With cars here, there and
everywhere? All the while your nose and hood are mashed in to where you
can barely see?

Cole Whitt did Friday night.

Driver No. 84 in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East finished fifth at Lee USA
Speedway. The front end of his Red Bull Toyota took a shot in a classic short-
track check-up just before halfway, and Whitt relied on instinct and spotter
Jeremy Thompson to score the fourth top-five and fifth top-10 finish of his
rookie NASCAR season.

“We had a car to win, but the nose got pushed in,” Whitt said. “Cosmetic
stuff, but it pushed the hood up to where I couldn’t see out of the front of the
car. I just kept going, looked out the sides. Just kind of kept rolling the rest
of the race.

“You rely a lot more on your spotter. He let me know everything that was
going on around me. We just kept going. We would have been lost if we came
down pit road to fix the damage, trying to come back through the field. We
were already up there and couldn’t give up the track position.”

Whitt started 11th – the first time in the season’s seven races that the No.
84 didn’t roll off from inside the top eight. That starting position slowed the
two-time pole winner’s charge to the front in a short, 125-lap race.

“Our qualifying run went just OK,” Whitt said. “Not real happy with it, but we
had good faith in the race and had time for me to work up there. A lot of
beating and banging. As the race played out, we were fighting, coming good
… even passing on the outside.”

With three races remaining, Whitt ranks fourth in the championship – 56
points out of third and 156 out of first. The K&N Pro Series East is off until the
Aug. 28 race at Gresham Motorsports Park, where the No. 84 team has an
upcoming test session.
