The Late Model Stock Car event will allow Gresham – who will turn 18 on Saturday, April 30 – a chance to compete early against a star-studded field of racers including NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Hamlin, Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, Michael Waltrip, Joey Logano and 2011 Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne.
“This is awesome, I am crazy excited about racing against these guys,” said Gresham, who will also drive the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series race at Richmond earlier in the day. “Everyone who is great in NASCAR right now – all the drivers that I have grown up watching – are going to be in this race. To get out there at Richmond and match my skills against the best of the best is going to be quite an experience for me. We’ll be out to have some fun and the fact that we are doing it all for charity makes it even better.”
Hamlin’s Short-Track Showdown will benefit The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Richmond, VA, Victory Junction Gang Camp and the NASCAR Foundation.
“Giving back is what this race and Denny’s foundation are all about,” Gresham stated. “You have to give back to whoever you can whenever you can. I really appreciate being able to be a part of this. It’s going to be a great time and we’ll get to raise some funds for some very worthwhile charities.”
“I’m excited that Max is going to be part of our Short Track Showdown,” said Hamlin. “It will be a busy night for my JGR teammate driving the doubleheader with the K&N Pro Series race earlier in the evening. Fans are going to have the opportunity to watch two great races while helping to raise money for some great causes.”
The Fourth-Annual Denny Hamlin Short-Track Showdown from Richmond will be telecast live on SPEED at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, April 28.
