Talladega, AL, (November 1, 2010) - Chad McCumbee finished 22nd in the TRG Motorsports No. 71 ModSpace Chevrolet Impala SS in today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) AMP Energy Juice 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

The first time restrictor plate racer was not scared on this Halloween day.  He took to the track with a lot of maturity and was able to finish the race in the top 25 at the ultra competitive Talladega Superspeedway.  He and the team went through the typical ups-and-downs of restrictor plate racing.  From running in the top 15 to going down two laps, McCumbee got the full plate experience today.  He also experienced the frustration of carrying two rookie stripes on the back bumper and having little help in the draft.

“We had a plan at the start of the race,” McCumbee said.  “We were going to go to the back and ride, it kind of bit us.  We got back there and we ended up losing the draft when some of the other drivers made, what I thought, were some bad decisions.  We ended up losing the draft and man that just made for a long day.  I was fuming inside the car.  Everything happens for a reason.  Dan (Stillman, crew chief) made the right calls to get me back on the lead lap and at least gave me a shot a good finish at the end.  We didn’t get in any incidents and we brought the car home in one piece in the top 25.”

The 26-year old Supply, North Carolina resident was set for the run to the checker.

“I thought I was in a good position for the last restart behind Mark (Martin).  Then the guys just threw it to me, you could tell those rookie stripes just made the difference.  We came home in the top 25, I am happy with that finish.  It is a good points day for the team and will help them stay in the top 35 in owner’s points headed to Texas.  I want to thank ModSpace and everybody at their company for everything they have done for me in the last 19-months.  It has been a great relationship.  Also everyone at TRG Motorsports for giving me this opportunity today, I learned a lot.”

Kevin Buckler, team owner, is happy with McCumbee and the work of the team.

“Wow, what a crazy race,” Buckler said.  “Chad went to the back early, as planned, and then lost the draft.  We went down two laps and the team made some great strategic calls and got us back in contention for a good finish.  It is tough for a new driver when everyone else just doesn’t want to work with you, which is so important at these restrictor plate races.  Chad did a good job and I am very happy with the team work today.  We came away with a good top 25 finish which helps us in owner points going into the last three races and Chad has another tool in his racer’s tool belt now.  Having our ModSpace partners on board as a primary this weekend made all the difference in the world.  They allowed us to race and finish strong.  They are a fantastic company and I am glad we could deliver a good finish for them.”

The team will travel to Texas Motor Speedway for the AAA Texas 500 to be run on Sunday, November 7.
