James Buescher / No. 51 Phoenix Construction Toyota Camry Daytona Race Recap

VENUE: DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY (2.5-MILE TRI-OVAL)

CIRCUIT: ARCA RACING SERIES PRESENTED BY RE/MAX AND MENARDS

RACE: LUCAS OIL SLICK MIST 200 (Race 1 of 20)

DATE: FEBRUARY 6, 2010 (80 LAPS, 200 MILES)

START: 1st

FINISH: 4th

RACE RECAP:

· Friday morning under cloudy skies, Phoenix Racing driver James Buescher claimed the pole position with his No. 51 Phoenix Construction entry and recorded his second career ARCA Racing Series pole.

· Starting the 80-lap race from the inside of the front row, the defending Daytona ARCA Racing Series winner brought the field to the green-flag in the same chassis that he won with one year ago. Quickly, Buescher led the single-file charge around the 2.5-mile tri-oval as the first caution of the event flew on lap six for a multi-car accident. The Texas native restarted from the first position on lap 16.

· Three cautions slowed the field in the next 25 laps, one of which resulted in a red-flag condition on lap 26. During the break in action, Buescher radioed to his Marc Reno and Nick Harrison-led team that the car was very comfortable and he was taking it easy on the track. When the yellow-flag was displayed, Buescher brought his No. 51 Phoenix Construction entry to the attention of his pit crew. After a quick stop, fresh right-side tires, and two cans of fuel, Buescher restarted from the fifth position, as the first four competitors did not come to pit road.

· Buescher rapidly made his way to the fourth position, as he led the charge on the high line. As cautions continued to slow the pace of the race, Buescher never fell below the eighth position and moved around from the high line and low line to move closer to the front.

· Over the final 15 laps, Buescher worked his way back up to the fourth position, which is where he crossed the finish line.

Bobby Gerhart won the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200. Mark Thompson, John Wes Townley, Buescher, and Patrick Sheltra completed the top-five finishing positions.

FAST FACTS:

· Buescher scored his eighth ARCA Racing Series top-five finish during the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200.

· Buescher was recorded in the top-10 for every lap of the season-opening ARCA Racing Series race.

· The caution flag was displayed six times throughout the 80-lap event.

· Next Saturday, February 13, Buescher will return to action at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway for the NASCAR Nationwide Series season opener. The 19-year-old will steer the No. 1 Phoenix Racing Chevrolet for the James Finch-owned team.

JAMES BUESCHER QUOTE:

“My 51 Phoenix Construction car was really good throughout the whole race and I really thought we could get out there and lead every lap and win the race. Unfortunately it just wasn’t our day to take home the trophy, but it was a lot of fun out there and I’m proud of everyone. This will give us a lot of momentum heading into next week’s Nationwide Series race and it was great winning the pole and leading laps there in the beginning.”
