GMP officials are reviewing possible dates to reschedule the event and will make an announcement at a later date.

Fans and competitors holding tickets and pit armbands for Saturday’s event will be able to use them for the Saturday, September 18 George Elliott Memorial 100 Presented by Monolith Companies or for the Saturday, October 9 McDonalds Night Featuring Ronald McDonald racing program.

Please make sure you hang on to your ticket stub or pit armband from tonight’s race and just present it at the gate for admission to either the Saturday, September 18 or Saturday, October 9 events.

Next up at Gresham Motorsports Park will be one of the biggest events in the history of the track – the return of NASCAR to the Jefferson, GA half-mile oval.

NASCAR will make its first appearance at the track since 1987 when Larry Pearson won a pair of NASCAR Busch (now Nationwide) Series events. Gresham Motorsports Park opened as Jefco Speedway in 1967 with a NASCAR Sportsman race with ‘Tiger’ Tom Pistone earning the victory.

GMP also hosted the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events in 1968 and 1969 with Cale Yarborough and Bobby Isaac taking the checkered flag.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debuted as the NASCAR Busch North Series in 1987. Since then, the division has been one of NASCAR’s top touring series and today serves as the sanctioning organization’s top driver development series.

Drivers expected to race in the August 28 NKNPSE event at GMP are defending series champion Ryan Truex, Ty Dillon, Ryan Gifford, Darrell Wallace, Jr., Brett Moffitt, Matt Kobyluck, D.J. Shaw and Kevin Swindell.

Also expected to be entered is Georgia’s own Max Gresham, already a two-time winner in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series this season. Gresham will wheel a Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota in the event.

The August 28 NKNPSE race at Gresham Motorsports Park will be the only time the division will compete in Georgia this year.

Joining the K&N Pro Series East division on Saturday, August 28 will be the GMP Trucks, Renegades and Mini-Stocks divisions making it a full night of racing thrills and spills.

Adult Grandstand and Trackside General Admission Tickets are just $20 for this special event. Seniors (55 and older) and Active Military Personnel are $18 while Children 6-12 are $10. Children 5 and under will be admitted free and, as always, parking is free.

The GMP Grandstand and Trackside Parking for the August 28 event will open at 2 p.m. Opening Ceremonies are set for 7 p.m. with the first race taking the green flag at 7:30 p.m. sharp.

Gresham Motorsports Park is located right off I-85 at Exit 140, next to the Jackson County Airport in Jefferson. GA.

The most recent organization to hit the GMP high banks was Red Horse Racing – a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team. The team, which features drivers Timothy Peters and Justin Lofton, spent two days at the track this week tweaking their Toyota Tundra race vehicles.

Peters and Lofton now join a growing fraternity of drivers and teams that have tested at the totally refurbished Gresham oval which features NASCAR amenities such as data loop timing and scoring, enclosed garage areas and the same high-grip polymer asphalt that is used at several NASCAR tracks including Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Throw in the fact that GMP is located directly across the street from Jackson County Airport (19A) – a short 30-minute plane ride or a quick three-hour drive from the Charlotte area that is home to the vast majority of NASCAR teams – and it is little wonder that drivers like Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch, Sam Hornish, Paul Menard, Martin Truex, Jr. and several others have tested at the track.

Meanwhile, Gresham Motorsports Park continues to gear up for its next racing event – a Super Late Model clash on Father’s Day Weekend. The Saturday, June 19 GMP event will see the ‘Supers’ make their second appearance of the season at the track. In March, Augie Grill led Chase Elliott, Bubba Pollard, Jason Hogan and Mike Garvey under the checkered flag in the season-opening event at GMP this season.

Grill’s win automatically earned him a starting spot in the 27th -Annual World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park on Sunday, November 14. The winner of the June 19 GMP Super Late Model event will also earn a berth in the season-ending racing classic.

The Saturday, June 19 GMP action-packed Father’s Day racing card will also feature Outlaw Late Models, Renegade Street Stocks, Trucks, Mini-Stocks and the first 2010 appearance of the Mini Cup cars.

Adult Grandstand and Trackside General Admission Tickets for the June 19 Father’s Day speedtacular are just $20, Seniors and Active Military Personnel are $18 while Children 6-12 are $10. Children 5 and under will be admitted free and, as always, general parking is free.

Tickets are available now online at http://greshammotorsportspark.ticketforce.com and at the Gresham Motorsports Park track ticket office Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

A limited number of Trackside Car, Pick-Up Truck and Van Parking Spaces (no oversize vehicles) are available on a first-come, first-served basis on Saturday, June 19 show for $25 per vehicle.

Spectator and Trackside Gates open at 2 p.m.

According to Gresham Motorsports Park General Manager, the Camping World Series East race will mark the return of NASCAR to the historic half-mile Georgia oval on Saturday, August 28, 2010.

“This is a great day for us,” said Elliott. “Gresham Motorsports Park opened as Jefco Speedway in 1967 and the first event was a NASCAR Sportsman (now Nationwide) race won by ‘Tiger’ Tom Pistone. Later, NASCAR greats Cale Yarborough and Bobby Isacc won what are now NASCAR Sprint Cup races here. To say we are elated to have a NASCAR event back on our schedule is an understatement.”

The previous incarnation of the NASCAR Camping World Series East division actually has competed at GMP. On July 24, 1968, Tiny Lund won a NASCAR Grand Touring Series at the then named Jefco Speedway. Lund would win another Grand Touring event – the Bulldog 400 – at Jefco on March 16, 1969.

In 2009, the NASCAR Camping World Series East contested 11 races including events at Watkins Glen International, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Dover International Speedway and Iowa Speedway.

The GMP NASCAR event is just one of 12 high-profile oval track races the former Peach State Speedway will stage in 2010. Purchased by the Gresham family in January, the track was closed all season as the facility was leveled and replaced with a state-of-the-art facility. In addition to the complete makeover that included all new racing surfaces and lighting, a drive-thru Infield Tech Center, new grandstands, rest rooms and concession facilities were also constructed. The track is also one of the most technologically advanced in the country featuring 7-loop data/scoring capacity and wireless, remote control solar powered track safety lighting.

The announcement of the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Series East race was made at the 26th-Annual World Crown 300 this weekend – the inaugural event at the new Gresham Motorsports Park track.

Roderick won both the Pro Legends and Thunder Car portion of the evening program while Cody Haskins grabbed the Semi-Pro Legends main event. Meanwhile, Randy Gunton beat Randy Thornton to the finish line to capture the Master Legends feature.
In Bandolero action, Alex Coffee won the first-ever race on the all-new Gresham Motorsports Park quarter-mile oval while Anderson Bowen got the best of the field in the Bandolero Young Guns division.

Earlier in the day, sunny skies and a full pit area greeted fans at the totally refurbished speedway Friday morning. Late Model practice for Sunday’s World Crown classic rolled off with a bang when Allen Karnes pasted the Turn 1 wall. The heavy impact destroyed Karnes’ ride and put him on the sidelines for the remainder of the weekend.

Meanwhile, times on the new GMP half-mile oval proved to be lightening quick as Chase Elliott led all practices with a best lap of 16.546 seconds – three tenths faster than the standing track record. In all, 12 drivers eclipsed the all-time track record of 16.83 seconds in practice.

The Late Models will be back Saturday for another round of practice before hitting the track in search of the Monolith Companies Pole Award for this year’s World Crown 300. Qualifying Saturday is set for 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

The Late Model division will be joined by four divisions of cars Saturday. For just $15, fans can take in Crown qualifying as well as see the Iceman Late Models. Mini Stocks, Renegades (Street Stocks) and Trucks do battle on the freshly minted GMP half-mile Saturday evening. The first race will roll at 7 p.m.

Finally, Drift Emporium of Athens, GA will put on a tire smoking drifting exhibition prior to Saturday evening’s main events. The group will be part of a bigger Drifting show to be presented by Southeast Drift on Saturday, November 28, at GMP.

Saturday’s practice schedule gets underway with the Late Models on the track at 10 a.m. The Iceman, Mini-Stock, Renegade and Truck divisions will alternate practices beginning at 1 p.m.

Sunday’s World Crown 300 pre-race gala will feature a ribbon cutting, dedication, live music and driver introductions before the green flag waves at 2 p.m. Eastern Time.
